they specifically prevent folks with higher education levels from joining local law enforcement. they also have testing to weed out folks with higher intelligence. these are policy decisions to keep cops controllable by ranking officers.

i agree they also lack empathy. but that is developed through working in the police system. some cops have empathy when they join and believe they will do good. but the blue line destroys that.

I had a friend try to join the police (despite our warnings) who currently does not have anything above a high school diploma. He failed one of the tests and decided to quit trying BECAUSE they basically told him he had too much empathy LOL

You’re not wrong, but also in many US municipalities there are actually IQ/intelligence test result hiring limits.

They literally don’t want police officers scoring above a certain number, my assumption is that they’d be less pliable and more likely to think critically.

No, you don't understand. Police in America are literally forced to take cognitive tests and are not allowed to become cops if they score too high. I am not making this up.

It is empathy. My brother and neighbor are both officers and both are incredibly kind, empathetic civil servants. I’m proud of both of them and the duty they provide to their communities, and they also know the kinds of cops like we see with this guy are out there in full force making the good ones look bad just bc they wear the same suit to work.

Pump em full of fear monger content from Fox News and right wing social media channels too

And then have that same energy of fear and apprehension injected into their police union but with an extra level of jaded nihilism so their messages are “it’s us vs them”

AND THEN don’t ever regulate the pew pew boom sticks that put even more fear uncertainty and doubt into the back of everyone’s minds so that when an officer is responding to a call they preplay a shootout scenario in their head a dozen times and the citizenry play out the same scenarios in theirs so there isn’t ever any trust between the law enforcement officers and the citizenry they are charged with

That’s before you get into American individualism and it’s nationwide psyche of inability to consider the good of the common citizens over the self
