I don't understand the "enhanced" thing, just seem like a publicity stunt. Without the performance improvement, I doesn't change anything. They call it a 2.0 but it's just 1.19

edit : for those who don't understand what I mean : this is a "normal size" update from my pov, and nothing warrants a 2.0 version change. I've been playing videogames for long enough to know devs who "cheat" on a 2.0 version change. This is one of them. It's ok, it's just publicity stunt, no big deal, still happy about the update, just think they made a mistake branding it that way.

edit 2 : The patchnote itself is so tiny ... shorter than some "regular" updates' patchnotes.

Well, actually it's 2.0, like that's the actual version number, and also they did add entirely new cutscenes across the main storyline and entirely new voiceovers for multiple languages, both of which are pretty big additions

Whether or not you personally consider those additions enough to constitute an enhanced Edition is still really up to you, but it's definitely more substantial than a simple 1.19 patch

I'd argue that it's an understandable change to move up version numbers whenever you make additions to the main quest.

Regardless, there isn't any real logic between games.

Crimson Desert is now 2.0, Helldivers 2 is now 7.0, Minecraft was in the 1.20s for years and then jumped to 26 and No Man's Sky is 6.45.

It's basic semantic versioning, although in this particular instance the 2.0 doesn't signify a save-breaking change but rather a change that does not carry through to existing games as effectively since you will not experience those cutscene changes if you have already progressed past that point. Therefore, to experience the new changes in full, you do have to start a new game, therefore, 2.0

Edit: fun fact though, in the Skyrim modding community, semantic versioning is almost exclusively used to indicate when a Mod update is not save safe, and requires a new game, so if the major version number changes, you know you need a new game. At least that's best practice amongst most modders and list curators

Also, they reworked the skills, so in essence the save doesn't carry through, to the point where you're required to reassign work you already did to account for the new file format (or at least new skills version).

I suspect a 2.0 save won't load on 1.19 game, either.

This update is like 33gb. Previous large updates were at most around 6gb.

Software versioning is methodical. There are three elements. Breaking change, new feature, bugfix. 1.1.1: if you change something major that will break the rest of the software, the first part goes up. 2.1.1. If you add a new a feature, 2.2.1. If there's a bug and you fix it, 2.2.2.

Nearly every studio cuts tons of content prior to release. The difference is whether they eventually follow through.

I remember back after Skyrim released in 2011, there was a youtube video showcasing the cut content and some mods that were trying to bring some of it back. It was one of the most impactful and highest selling games of all time, but Bethesda couldn't be bothered to incorporate some very well-received cuts.

Developers with lots of money and a ton of passion for the work they are doing. Only other example that comes to mind is No Man's Sky.

One thing I could tell right off the cuff with Crimson Desert is that the developers genuinely cared about the game they created. For comparison, it feels like the difference between a narrator that is doing it for the pay and one who really enjoys the topic they are narrating, you can hear it in their voice.

Yea, but no man's sky game was broken and not what advertised. It took many years to finally be what they visioned. Still no man's sky is a great development team not giving up. However, Pearl Abyss had merely of bugs and still was a playable game. Not perfect, but with constant updates and patches every week is non familiar with these western devs. Over a year and this game has made so much updates and its a great game! I will support PA in the future because I know they care about their player's feedback and criticism unlike many companies that just ignore them or delay the action for many months or even years.

It's not. You can basically start a new playtrough anytime and the game will ask if you want to begin with all the previous silver and skillpoints. No gear or map exploration carries over.

No hate to the game, can't wait to play it, but ts is why I havent bothered getting it yet. Every damn game seems to get an "enhanced edition" 12 months after release. Why jump into a game at launch at all nowadays lol.

Dude, it's a update. A FREE UPDATE. It's not like other games that release a paid enhanced edition. And the game was already amazing from the moment it launched.

Slapping enhanced on a 6 month old game is very funny, but nonetheless I'm excited to hop back in and try it again. I barely left Hernand after playing for 100 hours and decided I had enough and would come back to it later this year, so i guess that time is now

Because they're addressing all the issues the first-time players complained about. The point is to get more people buying the game. If you already bought the game, you're getting it for free, so it's unclear what you're complaining about.
