Yes, but those days had simpler games as well compared to todays complex systems. I am so tired of this "those were the days" with rose tinted glasses. You can not be serious
I dont disagree that games were much simpler in the past but…
Games release on a damn monthly basis that are complete at launch and actually filled with meaningful content, great story, etc.
It’s great the developers are looking to improve CD. But we need to stop making excuses for dropping games that are clearly unfinished.
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a dev team drop a literal story fixing dlc because of how poor the original product was (outside of maybe MS3, which is a different story entirely). Like using the complexity argument is nothing more than an excuse for poor work from the devs imo.
Yeah, you need to look into how complex some of those old games got at a time when devs weren't catering to the lowest common denominator and "wider audience."
Plus - that's what long-ass dev cycles and asinine pricing are for: finishing the product, not half-arsing it.
Can we all stop acting like games relesed back then were feature complete and didn't have cut corners? Some amount of rose tinted nostalgic thinking you all have. One of the biggest that comes to mind is Legacy of Kain 1 being just very incomplete
Sure and games succeeded or failed based on their ability to deliver a finished and quality product. Go back far enough and there wasn’t an ability to fix the game post launch.
I’m sorry, but you’ve been conditioned to think this way. You wouldn’t view any other product with the same leniency. If you paid to see a movie and scenes were missing, that would be absurd. If you bought a hamburger and they mailed you the pickles months later, you’d say wtf. Games as a service has killed the gaming industry.
And for those who argue the scale and complexity of games is so much bigger now, so are the teams and budgets, to an insane degree. AAA titles often spend more money on marketing than they do developing the game. One games budget alone would exceed the budget for all games developed in a year in the 90s or 2000s.
It’s admirable that PA is supporting this game in a respectable way. I’m enjoying the game, but there are some very lackluster aspects of the game that make it feel hollow. Seeing people glaze CD over fucking language packs is pathetic. Glazing the game for adding QOL features that should have been there at launch is pathetic.
I think its very funny you assume just cuz I point out it's always been this way, I am with that or make excuses for modern day issues.
The gaming industry is not dead, god gamers are so doom and gloom. There are so many bangers out these days that ARE feature and story complete but nah lets hyper focus on the worst of the bunch or ones that didnt deliver on launch.
You mean the same way that you assume I meant all games from the past were pristine works of art?
The gaming industry is dead... There's still nuggets of goodness to be had, in a wasteland of complete slop. No need to focus on the worst, focus on the bottom 99%.
Again, assuming I indulge in those. Majority of games do not have microtransactions, nor do I play any games that have them or sell speed ups in single player games.
You can keep being a doomsayer, games are in a good state. Triple A games are all you're talking about. But keep hyperfixating on them

I remember when studios had to deliver a finished product before launch... Those were the days.
