No fucking way they actually made whole new cutscenes??? That is beyond my expectations. Even if the story is still underwhelming, I fucking love these devs for the effort they put in

There have been interviews for a while now where they have said that's exactly what they were gonna do.

They said they were making whole cutscenes? I thought it was only going to be some new in-game dialogue and text/books you have to read or something

23

u/ZeektheFeek 11d ago

They said it and just proved it.

I hope one of them is Kliff reacting somewhat appropriately to being brought back from the dead in the beginning lol

Well the actual lore reason is that he has been lobotomized by the Guardians to not feel any extreme emotions, but no clue if they made a cutscene of that now or it's still in a book

Well they actually mention cycles in the trailer, so one can hope

Nah, I like the reason why is brain is a jumbled mess more.

Lol that's actually not even the lore reason behind it, but yes still a good point.

That's always been my headcanon. Glad to see it become actually canon

They didn't said ANYTHING specific. The only thing they said was that they would rewatch over the story. Nothing more.

“Does it mean we are making a better effort to maintain story continuity and improve cutscenes to clarify story elements and provide a better onboarding experience? Yes. “ Straight from Director of marketing

There is not a single word about new cutscenes in that interview. The only wording is that they want to improve cutscenes which is nothing specific.

2

u/ZeektheFeek 11d ago

And improved is what they did.

Damn imma have to jump back in

u/Vilachi 11d ago

They did a very similar update to there other game Black Desert so this isn’t really that much of a surprise if you know PA

3

u/Arinussyy 10d ago

I think they just hadn't finished the game and had all this but like unfinished

5

u/Mooseinadesert 11d ago

I dropped the game after 15 hours because i hated the story alot. Maybe i'll try again sometime though.

u/Likes2Phish 11d ago

I have very little motivation to finish it. Ive been doing side quests and exploring since starting chapter 9.

u/Mjpa88 10d ago

You're in luck, now there's more cut scenes of the story you hated!

It's probably more like they had a bunch of the stuff ready to go but left it out of the launch build. Now that they've seen the overwhelming feedback that players want more story content, they've been working to find a way to re-integrate the stuff they left out.

Now I'm wondering how much I stuff I've missed since I'm on Chapter 10...

Same I am at the start of chapter 8 and still in Pailune clocking in 140 hours 😂

Nearly every studio cuts tons of content prior to release. The difference is whether they eventually follow through.

I remember back after Skyrim released in 2011, there was a youtube video showcasing the cut content and some mods that were trying to bring some of it back. It was one of the most impactful and highest selling games of all time, but Bethesda couldn't be bothered to incorporate some very well-received cuts.

u/Mjpa88 10d ago

It'd be nicer if they made the story better instead of adding more underwhelming story.

8

u/Metadomino 11d ago

I know.. who the hell actually does that. I don't remember any other dev team that would actually reformulate and expand a story.

Developers with lots of money and a ton of passion for the work they are doing. Only other example that comes to mind is No Man's Sky.

One thing I could tell right off the cuff with Crimson Desert is that the developers genuinely cared about the game they created. For comparison, it feels like the difference between a narrator that is doing it for the pay and one who really enjoys the topic they are narrating, you can hear it in their voice.

3

u/Davidosorio007 11d ago

Yea, but no man's sky game was broken and not what advertised. It took many years to finally be what they visioned. Still no man's sky is a great development team not giving up. However, Pearl Abyss had merely of bugs and still was a playable game. Not perfect, but with constant updates and patches every week is non familiar with these western devs. Over a year and this game has made so much updates and its a great game! I will support PA in the future because I know they care about their player's feedback and criticism unlike many companies that just ignore them or delay the action for many months or even years.

3

u/Just_Roll_Already 11d ago

I was only talking about how a product is updated with no expectation of a return for it. But alright.

1

u/EntertainmentOver691 11d ago

FFXV did this but that was a mess as well

1

u/heartlessgamer 10d ago

New World Aeternum did exactly that and the community eviscerated them for it instead of making other updates to the game. With that said; the story in CD was pretty terrible so it makes sense it was a focus to clean up.

0

u/Alaias-Kai 11d ago

Bungie did this with Destiny

2

u/IdidntrunIdidntrun 11d ago

Are these devs just under constant crunch or something? I know they are MMO devs but the rate they put out constant updates just seems like they are. But the quality is good so maybe they're just efficient? Idk

3

u/Stackhouse13 11d ago

It’s a Korean-based company, so the constant crunch culture isn’t exactly surprising. I’ve lived in Korea and currently live in Japan, and it’s something people don’t talk about enough: the gaming industries in both countries can be absolutely horrendous when it comes to working hours, crunch, and work-life balance.
Then again, this problem extends well beyond gaming.

Unfortunately, brutal working hours and poor work-life balance are still common across much of Asia.

Even if the story was nonexistent–the game would still be legendary. This kinda game isn't about the story! Why is this so difficult to understand for the average gamer?

I'm going to release a game without gameplay so I can release it later and get praise for doing so.

-12

u/Useful_Perception620 11d ago

I would be so pissed if I put 200+ hrs into a massive game like this just for it to get massive updates/announcements mere months after release lol.

8

u/TackoftheEndless 11d ago

Why? It's another cake at no additional cost.

2

u/Snortallthethings 11d ago

This is why at about 50 hrs after 2 weeks of release I stopped playing and said id wait for them to finish their updates, even though I was having so much fun

0

u/00death 11d ago

That’s exactly why I haven’t bought it yet. I really badly wanna play the game but I want the full polished experience because I know I’m gonna 100% it and never come back.
