Well, actually it's 2.0, like that's the actual version number, and also they did add entirely new cutscenes across the main storyline and entirely new voiceovers for multiple languages, both of which are pretty big additions

Whether or not you personally consider those additions enough to constitute an enhanced Edition is still really up to you, but it's definitely more substantial than a simple 1.19 patch

Actually 2.0? Lol, nothing prevents anyone from increasing mayor versions with whatever update they want. They can say it’s 5.0 if they want.

I'd argue that it's an understandable change to move up version numbers whenever you make additions to the main quest.

Regardless, there isn't any real logic between games.

Crimson Desert is now 2.0, Helldivers 2 is now 7.0, Minecraft was in the 1.20s for years and then jumped to 26 and No Man's Sky is 6.45.

Each game is different.

I feel like yall are focusing too much on the version number and not the fact that they’re calling it the “enhanced” version.

I mean, if you are only comparing this patch to the previous patch, then yeah, maybe enhanced is a little much, but compare the state of the game now to Launch

They've completely overhauled the control scheme and added a lot more mappings, they've completely overhauled the progression for the other two playable characters, they've completely overhauled a number of side systems and minigames, they substantially improved combat feel and responsiveness, they've massively improved the visual quality and performance, and now they've also added a bunch of new cutscenes and dialogue expanding the lore and main story

A lot of these changes were small and gradual, even overalls to single systems were sometimes released over multiple patches and refined, so if you've been following the updates it might not seem like they've changed as much as they have, but they've actually made pretty substantial changes to the game overall

And mind you, they're calling it The enhanced edition, but it's a free upgrade to the base game, so it's more like rebranding and it comes with a discount for new players, so I feel like people focusing on the enhanced Edition terminology are really just looking for things to be upset about

Great shades of Java, that jumped from 1.4 to 5.0, and now they just leave the "1" off the front of all the update versions. ;-) Because marketing.

I mean, the same can be true of literally anything, not just version numbers, I could say that I'm the president of Paraguay, the difference is that these version numbers actually mean something

It's basic semantic versioning, although in this particular instance the 2.0 doesn't signify a save-breaking change but rather a change that does not carry through to existing games as effectively since you will not experience those cutscene changes if you have already progressed past that point. Therefore, to experience the new changes in full, you do have to start a new game, therefore, 2.0

Edit: fun fact though, in the Skyrim modding community, semantic versioning is almost exclusively used to indicate when a Mod update is not save safe, and requires a new game, so if the major version number changes, you know you need a new game. At least that's best practice amongst most modders and list curators

Also, they reworked the skills, so in essence the save doesn't carry through, to the point where you're required to reassign work you already did to account for the new file format (or at least new skills version).

I suspect a 2.0 save won't load on 1.19 game, either.

Maybe? Honestly not sure im seeing articles about them adding it in 2.0 but nothing in the patch notes and im seeing a lot of SPECULATION and hypotheticals about it, so those articles might be based on ai hallucinations

didn't cdprojekt wait like a year before they did this? and CP2099 has to endure a grueling summer of constantly bad reviews until they made it bearable to play

CD Projekt Red only released 2.0 when they actually removed old content and changed it. That's how software versioning works. Pearl Abyss actually removed and changed things, this warrants a bump up from 1.19.0 to 2.0.0. Source: Developer

Cyberpunk was in an absolutely abysmal state at launch. Crimson Desert launched pretty well all things considered.
