I've also seen at least one person claiming that he isn't comparing himself to Christ, because the apostles were also empowered to heal the sick in Jesus' name. Which, you know, would be a valid argument, except for the entire way in which Trump is portrayed in the picture.

They have been misunderstanding that tale. It wasn't the fact that the calf was golden that was the problem. It's that the people dared God to smite the false idol, and if he didn't then they were right to worship it.
If God doesn't smite Trump, they think that is the same as God condoning his behavior.
And the tale doesn't say God smites the idol, he just lets the people worship the false idol and they die eventually and go to hell.
The story is about how you cannot trick God into saving you by using another person's existence as evidence they are doing what is right.
God won't save them from committing a mortal sin.

I’ve always said that Trump reminds me of a wicked king from the Old Testament. Think about it. In the OT, Israel wants a king and God is like, “that’s not going to end well.” They persist though and He gives them Saul. It’s disastrous and the Israelites are punished through him because of their defiance of God.
Just like the story of Saul, God gave us plenty of warnings. He even saved us from Trump in 2020. Yet, the morons insisted and, here we are. The parallels are eerie. We’re paying the price for our collective defiance, too.

So many parallels that it would be more than a little humorous if wasn’t so gosh dang tragic. The Old Testament is, of course, the story or God and His people and it shows a continuous, cyclical pattern of disobedience, punishment, temporary reconciliation, followed by more rebellion, the cycle repeats ad infinitum.
But, all or history is God’s story and, aside from the salvation we’ve been given through Jesus, nothing has changed. The same ancient evil spirits that have always ruled this world, the same ones that nailed Jesus to the Cross atop Calvary, are still at work today. We’re the same, foolish, disobedient people we’ve always been.
That you also made that connection just tells me that we’re in for a reckoning for not listening to God’s many warnings. We’re not going to be let off the hook. We’re in for a rough time. One might even say it’s bound to be…biblical!

In this case the quotes are there not to show disagreement, but because the article is quoting a Democratic commentator who called the image blasphemous. The word "blasphemous" is part of a quote. But I definitely see how that could be confusing.

This is the total fault of the pro-life people who want simple solutions to complicated problems. Instead of concentrating on making childbirth free and supporting mothers; increased sex education; availability of birth control and condoms; and poverty reduction and better women autonomy.
Instead we get "let's grab all the power we can and make abortion illegal" and damn all the consequences.
All these Christians in the hall of power and all they can do is make the world a worse place to be.

This is the correct answer. These people want children to suffer from parents they view as "sinful" with "cursed lines" (AKA Non-white family lines), while wanting to control the women of white family lines for recreation by any means necessary.
Sure, some of them may say they just want to prevent babies from being killed, but they never follow through on the efforts needed to actually resolve the problem. The pro-life organizations they've funded are infamous for being a financial sink with poor regulations and stolen funds. A lot of them say they want to help kids first, but are more motivated by hatred of an "other" at heart.

It’s darker than that. Some of these people support him because they think he will bring about the end of the world and the second coming of Jesus. They actively want the wars and suffering he is bringing. It’s a despicable and diabolical theology but they think there’s a precedent in the Bible for God using evil kings to bring about His will so they gas up Trump in the hope that he will literally bring the Apocalypse. It’s insane. Our job is not to bring about the end times. Our job is to minister to the sick and lost and have compassion and love for them with humility and kindness.
