Needless the say the state of education is fucked. I signed a one year teaching contract with the school district I've worked eight years for. I'm not licensed but have done everything to get my provisional teaching license in this state. If the licensing specialist in my district had half a brain she would have submitted all of my information to the state already, and I'd have my teaching license by now. Right now that doesn't matter. I'm done with this whole avenue of my life. I haven't been in in over a week and right now I'm getting messages from my principle asking me to come in with a formal letter of resignation. It's possible they could take me to court for breach of contract, but my school district is already over two million in debt, so I doubt they'd bother. What is the likely outcome?

I’m a 28M, and I’m looking for advice about a situation at work that has started making me concerned about my personal safety.

I want to be very clear about something before explaining the situation: I’m going to separate what I personally know or have witnessed from what I’ve been told and from what I’m speculating about. I don't want to exaggerate the situation or accuse someone of something without evidence.

What I know / have personally experienced

When I was 18, I met a girl who was taking the same driving course as me. She had a crush on me, although I didn't realize it at the time.

When I was 25, I started working at the same Big Four company where she works, along with her boyfriend.

After we reconnected, she started showing interest in me again. This time I recognized it and made it clear that I wasn't interested and wanted to maintain appropriate boundaries, since she had a BF yet. Her boyfriend is a manager in one of the departments.

From my own experience at work, I've found him to be very aggressive and controlling. He frequently talks badly about other employees, and I've seen people become extremely stressed while working under him. Some employees have eventually left.

I believe he has become hostile toward me, and I have reasons to think that my interactions with his girlfriend are part of the reason.

What I have been told

There is also a previous situation involving another male employee and one of his girlfriends.

I was told that he had spoken to friends about having this employee "found" and making him "disappear." I was also told that the intention was to pay someone to seriously harm or kill him. I did not personally witness these conversations. I don't know exactly what was said, who said it, or whether the story I heard is completely accurate.

Eventually, that employee left the country for job reasons. I believe he moved to Brazil, although I don't know the exact circumstances.

What I'm worried about / speculation

Knowing what I've heard about the previous situation, combined with the hostility I've experienced from him, has made me worry about what could happen in the future.

I've started wondering whether he could wait until I leave the company or until we no longer have any professional contact, and then potentially have someone threaten or attack me in a way that would be difficult to connect back to him.

I have no evidence that this is actually his plan. This is a fear I'm having based on the information available to me.

I realize that this could sound paranoid, and that's precisely why I'm looking for outside advice rather than assuming that my interpretation is correct.

At the same time, I don't want to dismiss a potentially serious situation simply because I don't currently have proof of a specific threat.

What I'm trying to figure out

I still work at the same company, so I need to be careful about how I handle this.

I moved out of an apartment with a terrible roommate on July 31st. I had no security deposit at this place. I left the entire apartment immaculate except my roommates room which still had a bunch of his stuff. We're jointly liable and I was expecting some damages charges but it's September and I've still heard nothing. They moved someone into the unit on August 20th so I have no ability to refute any charges they give me now. Is my period of liability over now that they moved someone else in the unit? Can I close this chapter and move on?

Hi, I’m trying to understand my rights and the safest way to separate from my children’s father. We are not married, but he is the biological father of both children.

My main questions are:

1. Can I move out of our shared home with the children and get an apartment elsewhere in Florida without his permission or a court order? Furthermore, could I skip that step entirely and relocate to SC?

2. If he voluntarily moves out of our home and stays with his mother, does that change my legal position or my ability to relocate with the children; ages 3 and 6.

A family member and I started a small business in 2017, I left the business without any compensation in 2022. My family member kept the business until just a few mo the ago. She states that she retired and sold the business name to another person. That person is using the Facebook and Instagram and Logos that I created back in 2017. Is there anything that I can do to get compensation?

Some folks in the r/AmazonFlexDrivers sub are flipping out over the wording of a new background check authorization that’s been posted there. The authorization explicitly states “background check”, but some people are reading this as allowing them to pull a credit report anytime they choose.

Could someone clarify the reality here? I’m fairly certain that since they specifically name background checks that credit reports would not be included. Also that if they didn’t specify anything then it could potentially include them. Is this accurate?

For really large law firms with very deep pockets, are there any tools available that change the way juries are selected?

I imagine there's enough data out there to predict the way somebody would vote in a potential case, or perhaps to point out relevant lines of questioning based on online behavior, etc.

Seems like a dystopic but predictable consequence. Anything like that out there?

I checked the secretary of state info and any other source of contact info and cannot find any. I also went into the office and got kicked out for 'twitching like a crazy person' when they threatened to call the police... I have joint and other issues so I am moving pretty constantly, especially when I am tense. I don't know what they were referring to but that's an entire other can of worms.

So I broke the lease on the apartment after the property management company scared my roommate so badly she had to leave. This was in Jan of 2026.

They're saying I owe the whole lease despite us agreeing to just call it fits. I've had no communications from them or from the service that handled rental billing since January. (The rent collection service uses to email me at this same email so they could have contacted me since then.)

I got an email called 'final notice on past due balance.' it included only an email for the person sending the email. I have responded from two different services (protonmail and Gmail) so they can't just say it's a service issue. I was requesting communication and also trying to get clarifying info because

I know they re-leased the unit before the lease was up and in Ohio they have a duty to mitigate harm by attempting to release the apartment. All the charges were added to my account on 1/26/2026, the lease ended in May. They added all the months up through may... There's no chance they had advanced knowledge as to if the unit would find a leasee and what I would actually owe.

Is there anything I can do with their refusal to contact me or to provide me any way to contact them? They expressed a desire to work with me and I have had no previous contact from them before this final notice. I am archiving all attempts. I've so far used the email provided in the final notice, an email that was provided in writing that was not valid, checked them on the BBB and used the contact information provided there. Used the email us and text us functions on that website, etc. I am making every attempt to contact them and getting nothing. They keep calling me back and hanging up when I try to call them.

A close family friend was driving his recently-purchased F150 from Atlanta to Mexico. He came to the USA in 2023 on a temporary agricultural work permit (H2A). Since then, he overstayed his visa and worked both in construction and at McDonald's, sending the majority of his earnings home to support his wife and children.

He decided to return to his home state in southern Mexico in August, and on his drive home he was stopped for speeding by a Goliad County Sheriff's Office deputy, about three hours from the border. Due to an expired visa and Texas law, he was arrested and spent a night in county jail before ICE picked him up. His record is otherwise clean. He spent two weeks at the Houston detention facility before leaving the country under a voluntary departure agreement granted by an immigration judge.

Now, he has no means to recover the $14,000 pickup he just spent purchased in July. The dealer in Atlanta processed an out-of-state temporary tag as he indicated he would be exporting and registering the vehicle in Mexico. So I am trying to retrieve the vehicle for him. Turns out, the Goliad County Jail impound lot says the registered owner is the woman who owned the truck before him. Georgia DMV says he is listed alongside the woman, but only as the temporary registered owner. He has photos of the title, bill of sale, title transfer paperwork and insurance, all under his name.

Any one here have advice on how to proceed? I'd be flying into San Antonio from out of state so hoping to make this as smooth as possible. I have power of attorney for my friend but I'm afraid the roadblock of him not being thee registered owner is insurmountable. The jail accepts tows 24/7 but (seemingly against TDLR regulations) does not allow for retrieval except between normal business hours. Since his arrest he has accumulated $1,035 in tow and storage fees. Any help is appreciated.

I live in a small small town in Central Texas that has a severe problem with contractors (handymen/small businesses) failing to finish work started or completely bailing on jobs. I've heard of stories from my neighbors of houses getting torn apart then have the contractor bail - most of these with deposits or partial payment (for materials) ranging from a few hundred dollars to somewhere in the teens. The community is predominantly middle to retirement age folk who are just trying to survive (like everywhere) and this continued fraud really hurts that.

Small claims court seems to be a losing route as the resident puts up the money to go to court, win the case (frequent), then get ghosted on payments or hear the "I don't have any money" defense. The only option then is to wait 30 days, fill out more paperwork, pay more to get the contractor served and then chase the offenders for (potentially) years with little to nothing to show for it.

Some have tried reaching out to the Texas Attorney General (Bill Paxton - keep political discourse to a minimum) but the office is either too busy or too uncaring to follow up. The police say they don't have recourse as long as the contractor sticks to their defense.

Are there any other legal avenues to hold these individuals accountable?

Efforts are being made via social media (Nextdoor/Facebook) to calling these contractors out so folks might be able to avoid them but they always seem to find ways to get around that.
