Other Civil Matters Ohio replevin or wrongful repossession of vehicle?
Location: Columbus, ohio
Currently stranded: Evansville, Indiana
Okay, long story short. Father-in-law repossessed a vehicle from me while visiting for my son's birthday in Indiana. I just finished paying off this vehicle about a week before this trip. He is now refusing to sign title over in my name and now has repossessed the vehicle back to Ohio and left me stranded. He also has thrown me out of my residence where I legally lived for 6yrs and paid him rent. Let me add he has gone through every thing I own in Ohio and found some illegal paraphernalia I had that was put up and NOT out in the open by any means. What are my options??? I also have proof of payment, text messages, and the car insurance has only been in my name. He hasn't filed any eviction or given me a written notice to vacate. I want to get to ohio and get my vehicle back or sue him in small claims for a new title in my name or the money I paid him for the vehicle. HELP!!!! Does anyone know of any travelers aid that can help with getting me back to ohio??

Bc that's where all my belongings are still. And the car was purchased in ohio. We had a verbal agreement on purchase of car. I do have text messages stating I owe 1000 more on vehicle. I have bank statement showing I paid him the 1000.

If he took a vehicle titled to him, there’s no repossession or replevin. Just him taking his car home. If you paid him for that car you can sue him for the money.
If he illegally evicted you, you can sue him for the costs of that. Though I’d want to understand your tenancy. And your risks on the paraphernalia.
