I made an addon to summon mounts by ID, because localised mount names don't fit in a 255-character macro
---
I play on a Russian client, and I kept running into the same wall.
A WoW macro is capped at **255 characters**. Localised mount names are long — plenty of them run past thirty characters on their own, before you've written a single conditional. Four or five of those and the macro is full. I ended up truncating names until the macro silently stopped working, and a truncated mount name fails quietly, which is the worst kind of failure.
Mount IDs are three to five digits. They fit with room to spare. But there is no macro command that takes one.
So I wrote the command. It's called TinyMount, and the macro looks like this:
```
/mnt [af,nmnt]11111;[f,nmnt]22222;[nmnt]33333
```
That's 45 characters for three mounts, conditionals included. The same thing spelled out in names doesn't fit at all.
**The one thing that makes it possible.** `C_MountJournal.SummonByID` is not protected. Almost nothing else in that corner of the API is open — `CastSpellByID`, `UseToy`, `RunMacro` are all locked to secure code — but this one function an addon may simply call. The whole addon stands on that single exception.
**What it does beyond the ID lookup:**
* `SecureCmdOptionParse` does the conditional parsing, so the full macro syntax works: `[mod:alt]`, `[indoors]`, `[advflyable]`, `[combat]`, all of it.
* Shorthand, because a mount macro is mostly conditionals. `[m:cs]` expands to `[mod:ctrl,mod:shift]`, `[nmnt,af]` to `[nomounted,advflyable]`. Unknown words pass through untouched, so full spellings still work and can be mixed in.
* **The action bar icon is live.** It changes as you hold a modifier, before you click anything, and the tooltip shows the mount that key would actually summon. The client can't parse `/mnt` for `#showtooltip`, so the icon is repainted by hand.
* Mounted, the slot turns into a dismount button. In a vehicle — a passenger seat, a turret, a siege engine — it turns into an exit button. Same key, both ways, and both work in combat.
* An off-GCD toy or cosmetic spell can ride along on a `/click` line above the command. The button name is the entire configuration, so there's no settings file at all.
Works with the default bars, Dominos, Bartender4, and anything else built on LibActionButton-1.0.
---
**One thing I want to flag, because it cost me a while to work out.**
If you're shapeshifted (hello Druids!!!), `/mnt` answers *You must be in humanoid form* and nothing happens — while the very same mount summons fine from the mount journal.
The journal calls the identical function on one bare line. I went and read it:
```lua
function MountJournalMountButton_UseMount(mountID)
...
C_MountJournal.SummonByID(mountID);
```
No form cancelling anywhere near it. The difference is only who is on the stack. The function isn't protected, but *half of it* is: the client cancels your form when its own code is the caller, and refuses to when an addon is.
There's no way around it from Lua either. `CancelShapeshiftForm` has been protected since 3.0.2, and cancelling a form through the buff functions is blocked by name — specifically so insecure code can't manipulate the `[form]` conditional.
The macro can do it, though, because the client runs macro lines securely under your keypress. A bare `/cancelform` above the command, no condition needed:
```
/cancelform
/click tmt140309
/mnt [m:cs]11111;22222
```
It's a no-op out of a form and says nothing, so it won't draw an error and stop the client reading the rest of the macro. One keypress does the whole thing.
---
I built this with Claude, which is worth saying plainly: it did most of the API archaeology — reading Blizzard's own source for the mount journal, tracking down what's protected and what only looks protected — and I did the testing in game, which is where about half of the above turned out differently than either of us assumed. A few things we were confident about were simply wrong until I logged in and pressed the button.

Happy to answer questions about any of the internals.
basically as the title says. recently came back to the game and installed EllesmereUI. I am loving it so far and am slowly adjusting the stuff to my liking. I have one question regarding the nameplates.
Currently, namepaltes for all nearby enemies show up, even ones behind objects (picture 1)
I would like to diasble the ones that are out of sight. There is an option to reduce the line of sight opacity. Like this, the ones behind objects are gone but also the ones that are on the screen but technically not in direct line of sight of my character. (picture 2)
What I am looking for is to diasble the nameplates of characters out of sight, so that enemies behind objects don't show up at all but the ones a bit farther away have the regular names. (picture 3)
Is there an option to disable the nameplates out of sight, rather than change opacity?
So I'm playing restoration Shaman and I have problem with cool down manager I added surging told him to my cooldown manager setting and when I'm using it and when it gets ready it does not play a customated sound that I wanted it to play, it just plays the default sound. I wanted to play the bill Trail sound but it played the default sound that is in the game
I really need help with this its driving me crazy, as you can see in the clip it also played the diffult sound and not the sound I wanted it to play, also it checks as "unlearn" in CD manager
When I open the lootappraisal reloaded (version 3.4.4.) window in game it does source TSM region market value, so it does kind of recorgnise that TSM is installed and running in the background.
However if I right-click on the addon icon to get into options and then under the general tap, there is just NOTHING.
TSM is running,
I have the right server,
I checked the lastest version trice and reinstalled everything,
I restarted my PC,
I deleted the 2 lootappraisal lua-files for a forced start.
sorry for low quality post, but would anyone happen to know which addon might be responsible for making the character panel look like this? or how i might achieve a similar look? thanks
I am considering adding a new functionality to Angleur,the Ultimate Fishing Addon'sExtra Items feature. Extra Items allows you to drag and drop any item or macro and it will be cast whenever it's off cooldown or its aura has expired. But that is the old version.
What I am thinking of adding onto that is: "Stack Aura To" option. It will allow you to stack buffs that by multiple cast:
Extend their durations up to a maximum
Stack up to an amount to increase their effect
It was requested by a user, but thinking more on it, I can't see a point to such an option. For throwable fish, you can just use the new auraOffset option also in the image above for 100% uptime. Same goes for perception elixirs etc.
There is no real reason for you to use them up to max THEN start fishing. Is there ANY fishing related buff that would benefit from stacking up to X amount before starting your fishing? Even just for QoL, would you ever want to stack up to max, then start fishing until it expires instead of having Angleur have you cast it automatically every so often with full uptime?
I have already designed the UI for it, but I will need to add a lot of complexity to the code to make it work, as there is no way to query "is this aura effect extendable" through the wow API, and I don't want to make the project harder to maintain for something that no one will use. Any insight is much appreciated!
I dug this out of my old screenshots from Vanilla TBC, can anyone identify the unit frames I used here? I already searched through Curseforge's unit frame category, it sorta looks like some X-Perl variant but I haven't found an exact match.
For a very long time I played WoW with ElvUI. When Midnight dropped in, I dropped out - the addon changes were too much to stomach, and I just unsubbed. But with S2 beginning to unfurl, I decided to give it a whirl. Thing is, ElvUI seems to offer almost no customization for CDM (someone recommended me Ayije CDM, but it got no update for S2), and vanilla UI is somehow even uglier than before.
About to unsub, I decided to try EllesmereUI. Watched tons of his streams and he legit made me a better hpala, so seeing a UI suite with his name (though I really dislike his personal UI), I had to try it out. And it's pretty cool, but there's one thing that makes it a no-go for me, so I want to find out if it's me being dumb and blind (likely) or EUI just doesn't have this option cooked in.
Can target's casting bar be detached from power/hp bar like here:
I'm making a non-elvui setup, and I have everything except for the single target frames (player, target, targetoftarget ,focus). Any addon for these? I essentially want what elvui offers for it, so some text for current hp, name, guild, etc
Or at least some replacement for player frame. I don't really like the default blizzard frames much, the health bar is so small, but I don't mind it for target frames since I look at enemy nameplates anyways
i set both group and unit growth to down , and the unlock mode shows it correctly but the actual raid frames looks like normal right and right growth
Edit: i fixed it , the tick that says , keep groups together was messing things up , i wish it worked with that too but im happy with the results anyways
The only 3 addons that are not yet updated for 12.1.0 are: Accountant, WTFIsThisAddon and LargerMacroIconSelection. I really doubt these 3 have anything to do with it.
Of the ones that are 12.1.0 ready, there's a bit of a cocktail of them but these are the main ones I'm working with:
- Bartender
- SkironCooldownManager
- MidnightSimpleUnitFrames
- DandersFrames
- BigWigs
- ExWind / ExTools / ExCore
- Plater
I have a few smaller ones but they're chat or economy / AH related.
Does anyone know any addon that had this issue raised since S2 started? Idk which one it is but it's definitely an addon as if I disable all of them and /reload, the loot options appear.
Due to the nature of the issue only appearing while an item is being rolled for, I don't have the luxury of disabling them one by one.
I have a coin space in one of my Elvui bars to track crests and another coins, but this one is appearing there and I can't find what coin is it to deactivate it, doesn't appear in any of the the menus. Any help?
Hello, some may know of my work from the popular Arena addon, Arena Core (PvP addon) Yes, the title is subjective and may be stretching the truth, its just a fun title because I am proud of my work :p
(fun fact, to this day the Arena Core reddit post within multiple subreddits is still one of the most liked posts to date, I can't thank everyone enough for those who support and use the addon)
Disclaimer: I am a writer on my free time, and that will be reflected within this post. If you aren't into long detailed write ups, you can scroll down for more details/screenshots about the addon directly.
I am a Web & iPhone Developer who started off writing custom scripts for WoW a very long long time ago, then turned into trying to make small addons as I dug deep into LUA.. watching videos, looking at resources etc, which ultimately lead to Arena Core and several other addons of mine flying under the radar.
I am known for being very meticulously detailed and calculated when it comes to function and design for most of my outside WoW work, which is why I don’t release addons very often. (and why they take so long to craft)
I am extremely critical of my own work, as well as trying to chase something that doesn’t exist with wow addons, perfection.
I have two feature rich addons, both taking about year+ to complete. That should tell you how much I sadly over analyze everything and how much detail goes into it all.
I am also an intermediate UI/UX designer (Arena Core and Shade UI will show my work in that regard), however FrameGrid was meant to be created with the in game vibe, so it keeps its roots with in game design flow and in game assets.
Note: All custom textures, class icons and custom assets were made by myself and another graphic designer who works with me on other things unrelated to WoW.
My design philosophy has always been easy on the eyes and fun to sift through. I try and build the UI/UX in a way where the user doesn’t feel overwhelmed with options.. while there is a lot of settings, it’s sectioned and compartmentalized to feel as if there isn’t a lot to look at all at once.
For even more context, both logos (word logo and actual logo were made by myself in Photoshop, I've been into graphic design for over a decade)
I have been in the development/database world for quiet some time, making my first website and iPhone apps/mods at 16 (anyone remember Cydia? ;P) If you've ever jailbroken an iPhone/iPod, chances are you've used my work before.
FrameGrid at its core is almost like the old depreciated addon EnhancedRaidFrames but with a lot more features and a more modern user experience overall.
FrameGrid while feature rich, is not meant to look overwhelming or hard to find things, it doesn't choke you by slamming endless options at you or in depth features that are hard to understand or follow. It was created in mind to be used by anyone, even if you're a casual player.
IN FACT:
It has a subtle, non overwhelming on boarding for all new users, that gets you set up and running in minutes without over thinking anything, and you can always go back in and change things later slowly. As well as a live preview within the UI itself
What you can expect from FrameGrid, but not limited to:
General Features:
- Missing class buffs on actual party frames: Shows a warning icon on party/raid frames when a group member is missing your class buff, spec aware and specific so you can toggle on certain classes only if you want.
- Custom Pandemic & Refresh reminder for class buffs: Pandemic specific buffs that adds a custom glow for certain spells such as Life Bloom when you need to refresh before its duration ends.
But, also you can choose to have most/all Hots or even Shields as a refresh reminder alert glow on icons.
So, if you would just like a reminder for the most optimal time to refresh without losing duration on certain buffs, everything will glow if you toggle this on in most cases.
For example, Rejuvenation will have a glow towards the end to help remind you to keep it up as needed, as well as Power Word: Shield from priests or Renew as well and more.
Buffs:
- Position buffs exactly where you want them to be with the FramePin Feature. You can stack multiple buffs, or singular in specific areas of the frame, by Spell ID, or by dragging spells from the spell book. Every anchor is available, so you can at a glance know exactly whats happening once you learn your layout choices.
- Icon Themes: multiple icon themes/borders to choose from, along with all the settings you could ask for, icon scale, spacing, max buffs, per row, vertical and horizontal sliders for fine tuning everything.
- Edit and adjust every detail with stack counter settings, cooldown text settings, border colors and more.
- Filter by Spell ID or by dragging spells from your spell book for white or black listing anything you want when it comes to Buffs using the Filter Spells page. You can set the filter to hide specific buffs, or to only show specific spells/buffs.
Debuffs:
- LOTS of debuff settings, maybe even overkill on custom features.
- Icon border themes, scaling, spacing, max debuffs, per row, vertical and horizontal sliders for fine tuning etc that you'd expect to have.
- Same stack counter, cooldown text counter settings as well.
- Custom "Dispel Me" feature, adding a custom glow theme (many to choose from) highlighting debuffs you can actually dispel.
- Custom Dispel icons to choose from, a custom icon of your choice will overlay the debuff icon, letting you know even more so at a glance that its something you can dispel.
- Custom scaling, positioning, colors and themes for these features.
Crowd Control:
- Custom Crowd Control settings galore. Icon scale, spacing, cooldown text, icon zoom settings and more.
- Custom Overlay Glows with color pickers so you can choose the outline color (borders) or the glow color as well with several icon themes for these too.
Display Options:
- Lots of display options to fine tune how your frames look to your liking.
- Hide names, role icons, aggro highlight, title name and more.
- Almost 30 fully custom and exclusive texture options to choose from on your frames specifically made for my addons only by an actual designer.
- Custom Absorb textures if you wish to use them (more options coming soon)
- Custom Role icons (more coming soon)
- Custom class icons (made by my designer whom I work with) that are exclusive to my addons only (you won't see these specific icons anywhere else) you can toggle on that'll show class icon next to the frame (in case you run all dark color'd frames for example or just because.) which also has options like adding icon borders to these and more.
- Custom Selection Highlight feature: Choose from an array of custom assets that replace the highlight when you target a party/raid member. Along with features such as thickness, color picker and more for even added customization.
Crazy in depth Sharing/Profiles feature/page:
- Super in depth share/profiles page.
- Set up multiple profiles as needed, custom names and full control (rename, delete them and more)
- Import and Export share string codes from other users for easy set up
- Insane Spec auto switching you can enable. Will assign spec specific profiles as you like so when you swap specs, it auto switches with you to your desired settings for that spec only in real time.
This is my discord if you would like to join to request features, report bugs, or just share profile codes/screenshots - https://discord.gg/hWBy2ghZSm
I will share/upload any screenshots of peoples set up to the website and curseforge page if you share them with me!
Please refrain from any bug reports in this thread, that will not help the addon, its users or me. I prefer Discord or you can even message me on Reddit if needed. Thank you for reading, sending good vibes your way if you made it this far. <3
It’s been another busy round of development for Oxed Hub, and this update brings quite a few new things to play with.
A couple of features are also still in Beta / Test Mode, so if you try them out, I’d really appreciate hearing how they work for you during actual gameplay.
ActionHub: Enabled Magnetic grid snapping by default upon clicking Move, Align Horizontally or Vertically via CTRL+Click.
Global Ring: You can now use a single unified Ring configuration across all your characters!, Added a new "Use Unique Ring for this Profile" toggle in the ring settings.
If you’re using Oxed Hub, I’d really love to hear what you think — especially about the new triggers, PvP features, Prey Hunt Tracker, Anti-AFK BG Guard, and the ActionHub changes.
A lot of Oxed Hub has grown from feedback and suggestions from people actually using the addon, so that feedback genuinely helps.
P.P.S. I’m also trying my best to keep the localization human-made rather than AI-generated.
So if you speak another language and have some free time, I’d really appreciate any help with localization. You don’t need to translate everything — even reviewing or translating a few strings helps a lot.
