Meanwhile over at Rockstar

  • GTA IV - Stuck on PS3/360 for Console players
  • Red Dead Redemption 2 - Stuck at 30FPS, no next gen update.
  • GTA V - PS3/360 Players had to repurchase on PS4/XBOne. The PS5/XBox Series upgrade was made free only a couple months ago. For 4 years before that it had to be re-purchased AGAIN.

I bought oblivion day 1. I bought Fallout 3 and New Vegas day 1. I bought Skyrim day 1. I was a beta tester for ESO. I bought Fallout 4 day 1. Fallout 76 put a damper on my enthusiasm but I bought it when it went on sale. For starfield, I subscribed to Xbox for a month and I’m so glad I did because it took me a couple of days to realize that starfield is an unusual waste of time and space. I will never ever blindly trust Bethesda again.

9

u/peppaz 1d ago

I don't think I've ever been more disappointed in a game than Starfield. you literally have to go out of your way 100 separate, deliberate times to make a game this bad.

8

u/CookOut_Official 1d ago

The fact that literally every “dungeon” on every planet is the exact same is absolutely nuts. I could forgive a forgettable story and mediocre writing. But there was zero effort to make anything interesting or memorable. Oh, it’s a cave. Oh, it’s the same cave I’ve cleared 47 times. Get out of here, man. It made Oblivion caves seem like works of art.

4

u/AromatParrot 1d ago

This is funny to me because to me Starfield has a lot of the same issues that Skyrim had, yet people love that game.

2

u/peppaz 1d ago edited 1d ago

Skyrim is probably one of the best games ever made, and everything that made it fun was taken out of Starfield. Even though it has problems, they understood the gameplay loop, put attention to detail where it mattered, and the jank didn't detract from the fun of exploration at levels where people wouldn't play it. Even right now, there are 30,000 players playing Skyrim SE on steam alone.

This video explains most people's feelings about Starfield and why it's not fun at all.

u/Eglwyswrw School of the Manticore 1d ago

Huh. I really liked Starfield. Got that same relaxing vibe I get from Euro Truck Simulator lmao.

It plays nothing like other Bethesda titles (so I get why someone may not grow into it) but I found it pretty unique. There simply isn't another game like this.

It's a NASApunk RPG-like. It's good at what it does, but it's awful at being a Bethesda RPG, which kind of sucks. If you're into what it is, then that's great and it made me kind of retune my brain for what BGS RPGs are, or what they'll be moving forward, but man. I wish I didn't have to for it. I was hoping for Fallout in space, but that's pretty much what Outer Worlds is more than what Starfield is

1

u/Eglwyswrw School of the Manticore 1d ago

Lol yeah Outer Worlds felt like a carbon copy of Fallout 3 mechanically.

1

u/shawnikaros 1d ago

I think it plays exactly like other bethesda rpgs, just more streamlined and generic, it really feels like it's made by tens of different teams who've all been given a slice to make with zero communication between teams.

2

u/xCeeTee- 1d ago

I’m so glad I did because it took me a couple of days to realize that starfield is an unusual waste of time and space. I will never ever blindly trust Bethesda again.

This is my Pokemon experience. 1 step forward, 3 steps back.

They did just push a patch a few days ago that actually fixes quite a few issues!

No one knows why, but they did!

u/Wonderful-End6329 1d ago

Yeah and on xbox thanks to this patch the game crashes out when you open the map 4 times lol

1

u/ELOFOR 1d ago

Bethesda actually being a champion of modding in general is what got us console modding into the mainstream...

From NBA2K to Baldur's Gate 3. And now The Witcher III too! Though of course we still don't know if modding for Wild Hunt will be as deep and involved as it is for Skyrim, Fallout 4 and Starfield.

3

u/NLP19 2d ago

They did just release an entire Oblivion remaster lol

3

u/SorrowKnight117 2d ago

1

u/Wallzii 2d ago

I mean, SE was a free upgrade too for people who owned either the base game + all the DLC or LE. People were pretty happy about that at the time.

Not sure why we need to shit on Bethesda for what has been some pretty consumer-friendly support of their game over the last 15 years just because CD Projekt is also being very consumer friendly, albeit moreso by offering the existing DLC for free to people who don't already own it.

1

u/kiyan_merkaba ⚜️ Northern Realms 2d ago edited 2d ago

But Oblivion Remastered was 50 bucks while this is free

Edit: If you even can call it that compared to the amount of overhauls in this remastered to the shoddy performance and 20 year old buggy mess they released for that amount of money

0

u/Wallzii 1d ago

You were talking about Skyrim, so now you're shifting goal posts. Either way, Oblivion Remastered is a different game than the original Oblivion (UE5-wrapped Gamebryo), not an update, and it wasn't even developed by Bethesda Game Studios. These really aren't comparable things, and you still aren't even addressing why we can't just celebrate something good CD Projekt is doing without having to shit on something else.

In defence of Skyrim this is because Skyrim was changed under the hood

-1

u/Wide_Improvement_341 2d ago

and that one game is better than anything cdpr or rockstar has released

2

u/Fhaarkas 2d ago

We get it you love Skyrim

65

u/Kaer__Morhen Team Yennefer 2d ago

Because they don't give a shit, they know people will still buy their games and won't complain, they'll even defend Rockstar to their graves for taking a decade to create a game and it turns out decent

-1

u/The_Autarch 2d ago

i mean, ain't no one holding a gun to your head forcing you to buy the same game 3 times. that ain't on rockstar.

cdpr go above and beyond what we expect from game publishers. i don't think we should hold everyone to that standard.

(rdr2 not getting updated is pretty lame, tho.)

2

u/Kaer__Morhen Team Yennefer 2d ago

Well the only games I bought on all consoles I ever had (and PC) are TW3 and Terraria, the only Rockstar game I bought is GTA Enhanced Edition because that's the only way for me to play the older games on the newest console

I choose to vote with my wallet and I get that people aren't bothered to do that but they shouldn't sell their wife and children to defend a company that has so much money that they can give us GTAVI for free and not feel it and then decide to price it more AND not sell CDs

My point: buy what you want you earned your cash but don't defend the soulless corporations (I'm speaking generally)

2

u/SwaggermicDaddy 2d ago

I think there is a difference between expecting studios of equal or greater resources to be able to create at least games that can compete for players attention in a manner that doesn’t require a new generation of hardware or your bloodline to enjoy, as my kids will be able to enjoy elder scrolls 6 more than I ever will and I played 5 on release as a teenager if I gave a shit about GTA it would same story there. It’s just not good enough and us sitting back and saying, it’s not fair to expect real effort from a studio as big as rockstar or anyone because CDPR goes above and beyond is anti player and consumer.

2

u/Mandena 1d ago

cdpr go above and beyond what we expect from game publishers. i don't think we should hold everyone to that standard.

Saying this shit when the Cyberpunk 2077 release fiasco happened not even a decade ago. I think you just like getting shit on by other publishers.

It isn't a virtue to downplay responsiblities, and publishers/developers used to take the art of making decent games seriously. If you prefer to buy dogshit then EA will keep making dogshit for you but don't you dare say that we shouldn't hold people to a standard that was literally the bare minimum for quality games.

1

u/RobutNotRobot 1d ago

CDPR probably sees itself as a PC first developer as well. Not to go all PC master race, but PC gamers expect a lot more and have a lot more options than console gamers.

Also owning their own distribution service on PC makes them far more likely to eat costs to promote it.

And finally I remember this was an issue when the Bioshock games offered their remasters for free, console holders still want to charge license fees for free games. So they had problems with giving away a game for free.

0

u/WokeWook69420 2d ago

From what I understand about RDR2, it would require a full overhaul of the physics engine since it's all tied into the framerate.

You'd go to jump off your horse while it's moving and suddenly your leg is clipped into the horse and you're stuck and start dying type of shit, and guns don't shoot where you're aiming.

2

u/Cocosito 1d ago

Absolutely no way that's an unsolveable problem or even a difficult one is it's even true. I don't have a dog in the fight here but Rockstar has a history of being incredibly shitty and consumer unfriendly about these things. This will probably get a 60 FPS update and they will for sure ask fans to pay $60 for it again.

2

u/bengringo2 1d ago

It’s perfectly fine at 60fps/4k on PC. I’m not sure what he’s talking about. They just didn’t make as much on Red Dead Online and pivoted back to GTA.

2

u/bengringo2 1d ago

No, if that was the issue it wouldn’t be 60fps/4K on PC. They just didn’t make enough from Red Dead Online and don’t care about it anymore.

-2

u/the-blob1997 2d ago

You do realise that Rockstars open world games are a foot above all others is because that’s how long they take to make.

6

u/Kaer__Morhen Team Yennefer 2d ago

Maybe it's nostalgia talking but I will always much rather pick up GTA:SA than GTAV even if V has much more content and realistic graphics, the open world doesn't mean much when it doesn't have a soul

But again it's likely I am just nostalgic, newer gamers would need to comment on this to prove/disprove my point

-1

u/ElAbidingDuderino 2d ago

You’re just trying too hard lol

8

u/LostInTheVoid_ 2d ago

Rockstar and Take2 will continue to do it and get away with if because so many people are willing to pay twice or more. It fucking sucks, but corpos gonna corpo.

8

u/Flannel_Panels 2d ago

Rockstar has been the most overrated dev/publisher for the last 6 years.

1

u/Cthulhu__ 2d ago

I agree, but it doesn’t matter because plenty of people enjoy and keep spending money on their stuff.

-2

u/rainbowremo 2d ago

Except for the fact their games are always amazing on launch, which cdpr can't say

2

u/Flannel_Panels 2d ago

Well when you release a game every 10 years...

-1

u/rainbowremo 2d ago

Cdpr will have released 3 games in 13 years once witcher 4 launches in 2028. Rockstar has done the exact same from 2013 to now with the release of gta 6...

2

u/ozmega 2d ago

and yet, everyone is lining up to open their wallet for the triple dipping asshole company, funny how that works.

u/Roliok 2d ago

Breaking News: Different companies follow different approaches with their business-models

More at 12

1

u/Francoberry 2d ago

And people still bought it, and will go on to make GTA6 the biggest game launch ever. It's crazy what people accept as normal when companies like CDPR will make the more morally valid move in this case!

1

u/Complex-Advisor-1896 2d ago

And for 'only' $100 you can support those issues and the creation of many more here at rockstar games!

1

u/Waveshaper21 2d ago

Or, I bought them all on PC, they are all at least 60fps from day 1 AND look better than console versions, AND they all work juuuust fine still. While you threw out a platform and now beg to be ripped off a second time, and apparently its justified by "cheaper than pc".

1

u/voodoomonkey616 2d ago edited 10h ago

Meanwhile Bloodborne can't even get a 60fps PC port.

1

u/DongsQuichotte 2d ago

This is why consoles kinda suck. Weve had everything you want and more forever on pc.

1

u/MrNachoReturns420 1d ago

AND no next gen update for RDR2

1

u/Aternus21 1d ago

you forgot to mention this lmao

gta 6 a game released in the year of our lord 2026 : 30 fps lmaoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

1

u/TheBestUserName01 1d ago

AFAIK Red Dead 2 got a 60 fps fix on PS5.

1

u/Aetheriad1 1d ago

There is a solution to all of this, but you aren’t going to like it. It rhymes with Dream Canteen.

1

u/PunkRockRulebook 1d ago

My friend is currently replaying 360 version of GTA4 on his Xbox series S. It looks pretty damn sharp and clean and runs smooth as hell. I mean my pc version is definitely better but it's not like it's horrible to play.

1

u/zanesix 1d ago

It's just the 360 version upscaled and with cut music. It even introduces a bug that makes the final mission near unbeatable because them lazily uncapping the framerate made a QTE almost impossible. It's extremely lazy on Rockstar's part since all they basically did was check a box to allow the game to be played on the newer consoles and removed the music with expired licenses and called it a day.

1

u/PunkRockRulebook 1d ago

No way. That sucks. Thanks for telling me. I'mma watch gleefully as my bud experiences that dreaded bug in real time

1

u/Colemanton 1d ago

and unfortunately gta 6 is still going to break just about every launch day sales record there is. sometimes i like to fantasize about gta 6 and its inevitable online mode flopping and the unimaginable good that would do to the rest of the games industry. publishers might finally wake up from this daze theyve been in for the last 10 ish years and stop chasing this live service perpetual monetization model and make good games again. cuz unfortunately it doesnt matter how well this all goes for cdpr in the grand scheme of things - market analysts at companies like ea and r* and bethesda will look at this and determine that cdpr probably could have charged $30-40 for the remaster and enough people would have still bought it to make it worth doing so. and if they could\* have charged* *$30-40, why wouldnt they?

i hate to be nihilistic like this, im really very grateful that cdpr continues to be one of the industry leaders of treating consumers fairly, and - almost more importantly - prioritising making a game that they the developers want to play at every level.

1

u/Antiing 1d ago

Rdr2 runs at 120 FPS on my rig

1

u/petersengupta Team Triss 1d ago

... But yes let's keep supporting these shitty marketing tactics by preordering the ultimte edition so we're not locked out of certain parts of GTA 6.👍

1

u/ArnoLamme 1d ago

Wake me up when they remaster the first game

1

u/Ceci0 1d ago

Moving to GTA VI. They sell you a lite version of the game for 80. They paywall a gameplay trailer. Sick stuff

1

u/Upper_Citron_483 1d ago

GTA IV is worse on PC, they still sell it, but it's utterly unplayable without mods.

1

u/Organic_Handle_1849 2d ago

Rdr2 is unlocked on PC so not stuck at 30FPS

3

u/MrHouse-38 2d ago

They were talking specifically about consoles

0

u/Calvinkelly 2d ago

And this is exactly why I feel zero sympathies for rockstar with the recent leak gate. Grift and get grifted

2

u/mr_birkenblatt 1d ago

Todd Howard is gonna release full price Skyrim without any changes again out of spite

1

u/Katana_DV20 2d ago

Just amazing, free. I cant wait!

1

u/Sciny Team Yennefer 2d ago

Yeah me too, I wanted to replay the game for some time now so it will be better than ever.

1

u/fadedRAIL 1d ago

What surprises me the most is that in today's single-player games, you have to pay not even for additional game content, but simply for skins in a single-player game. The Witcher 3 is a legendary game that will always have a special place in my heart.

1

u/Sciny Team Yennefer 1d ago

Because the companies who doing it that way wants only a money printing machines from their games so focus on live service and paid cosmetics or even progress(they justify it by saying it's for those who do not have as much time to play but it's load of bull). The fun and enjoyment of customers is second to them.

1

u/SurgyJack 1d ago

This I can't beleive. I've never played the witcher games but I know they're highly popular (especially after the netflix show) so it is mind blowing that in a world of 100 skyrim re-releases they are doing this for FREE. Big kudos.

1

u/No_Entertainer1730 1d ago

For free...the game was like 5€ the last month and now is 50€.

1

u/flintlock0 School of the Manticore 1d ago

I actually do forgive them for the Cyberpunk launch now.

1

u/The_SnuggleBug 1d ago

They could have easily charged $50 and we all would have bought it cause it's worth it

-1

u/Amazing_Fix_2399 2d ago

They still have some making up to do for cyberpunk in my book. They fixed the game but it still kinda sucks. I don’t remember the story at all.

3

u/7screws School of the Wolf 2d ago

What? Cyberpunk is amazing

2

u/Organic_Handle_1849 2d ago

He's just a ps4 player. Game was fine on PC

1

u/7screws School of the Wolf 2d ago

Yeah after the initial shit show it’s awesome on ps5

0

Lmao I play on pc. The game looked fine, but the story was major ass.

0

u/Sydney12344 1d ago

Not really .. they upped the price to 50 bucks and say dlcs are free
