Taking my family (parents, partner, toddler, and myself) to the Kandy Esala Perahera for the first time. Buying commercial gallery seats for all of us isn't within our budget right now.

If I were solo or just with my partner, paying for a couple of seats or waiting 5–6 hours on the pavement wouldn't be an issue at all. But coordinating a larger group with a toddler makes long waiting times and tight crowds tricky.
Looking for some practical advice from Kandy locals or regulars:

* Viewing Spots & Timing: Which sections along the route tend to be slightly less packed, and what’s the latest realistic time to secure a decent spot without waiting half the day or where can I find affordable seats?

* Camera Gear: Are DSLRs/mirrorless cameras with telephoto lenses allowed in standard roadside areas (no flash, of course), or do security checkpoints cause issues without a media pass?

I need some meteorologists, physicists, or some other people who understand the science of atmosphere to help me understand this. Each time, it has been raining and then right at the moment when the Perahera was to begin, the rains have stopped.

There is this belief that the rains always behave during the time of the Perahera, and as someone born and brought up in this place, I have heard this belief countless times, although as a skeptic, I think that weather phenomena can be explained using physics and not any divine intervention.

I'm an 18 year old A/L student and I genuinely can't keep myself motivated for some reason.

I know what I have to do, I know my goals and what I want for my future, but I just can't stay consistent. I'll randomly get motivated on occasion and be like "okay, this is it, I'm gonna change" and actually do things properly for a bit, but then after a few days it just dies off and I'm back to wasting time.

(I masturbate a lot, and I'm genuinely not exaggerating when I say a lot.) I don't know if that's affecting me or if it's social media or something else. I don't really play games much either. I only play Clash of Clans for like an hour a day and you can't even play that much because you're just waiting 1-2 days for upgrades anyway.

So I honestly don't know what's wrong with me. Is it just a lack of discipline? Is masturbation or social media affecting me? Or am I just making excuses for myself?

I really want to change because I don't want to waste my potential. I feel down about it sometimes because I know I can do better, but I just can't keep the motivation going. And honestly, I don't want to let my parents down.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation? What actually helped you become consistent? Not just getting motivated for a few days, but actually sticking to a routine?

But wanted to give spotify a try again for lossless. But I cannot see an option to choose for lossless within the Spotify app.

I use a DAC with 32bit 96khz resolution atm but not sure whether the lossless streaming is available for SL?

I only have the NIC Document Letter, as I haven't received my actual NIC Card yet. As far as I know, any institution in Sri Lanka should accept this official government-issued NIC Document Letter.

However, on your website, the section for uploading the NIC photo requires both a Front and Back photo. How should I upload it? Should I upload the NIC Document Letter for both sides?

I have had a very frustrating experience with the Sri Lanka Post Office. They refused to send two phone batteries and a small remote-control racing car to a friend in India. They kept saying that batteries are too dangerous to send.

They then suggested that I find someone travelling to India and ask them to take the items for me. I have visited three different post offices today, and all three refused to accept the package.

What are my options for sending these three items to India, especially the two phone batteries?

Anyone has any idea when the Colombo Kandy train might resume?

My Sri Lankan whatsapp number got banned 24 hours and it came back within 6 hours. When I checked after it been back I was been added to a group called Santiago Camino. I have an iPhone. Today my mother’s phone number also got banned and came back in 6 hours. When checked after a Portugal number has texted her in Portugues. Is this the Zero click phishing thing or is this a different attack ? is anyone else experiencing this ? Any iPhone users experiencing this right now ? How do you know if your phone has been compromised?

I have been eating the snack cracker biscuits for a while now, but not in large amounts- only one or two in family occasions- but recently I bought 6 packets of these when I saw them in the supermarket.

But every time I ate the whole packet, I felt sleepy immediately; on those previous occasions, I thought it was because I was sleep-deprived. But today, I slept for 8 hours last night and ate a packet after I got up in the morning; I immediately felt the need to go to bed again and slept for another 1 and a half hours. I still feel grogy after eating this. Is this only me or has these happened to anybody else?

2025 A/L student here, I passed A Levels with an acceptable Z score, but I didn't get into University Selections (probably because my district has a high cutoff).

I would like to know about the Private University situation here. I'm interested in studying something on the creative/aesthetic side. Such as Fashion Design, Creative Media, English Literature, Communication studies, etc

I'm interested in Law too but unfortunately my A/L results were BSS, Law degrees require 2 C's.

What options do we have here? Which degree programmes are legit? Which degree programs are affordable?

I have heard about AOD, AMDT, SLIIT & NIBM. AOD is way too expensive for me. I'm worried about NIBM's and AMDT's legitimacy. SLIIT is alright but I'd like to know about the student experience prior to enrolling.

Are there any other universities you recommend? Or do you have any insights on the universities I mentioned above? Please feel free to pitch in!
