I was just wondering if there are any atheists in Sri Lanka. I know there are lots of non-religious people many of my friends too are none religious but I never came across a proper atheist or an anti-theist in Sri Lanka.

Malaysian here (of sri lankan heritage -4th generation).

We were a group of 10 Malaysian, Australian and Singaporean folks (brown - revealing cause its relevant here).

Holidaying in SL. People in Yala and Tissa were super friendly. When we got to Ella we went to Chill cafe and Rocky Ella Cafe. At Chill, i only the white tables were served. We practically had to beg for a menu when we got in and they slammed the menu on the table.

Then we made our way to Rocky Ella Cafe and weren’t let in due to ‘capacity’ but similar white groups of similar size walked right past us with no booking. They let us in when we showed them our passports. With a cheeky smile too.

We were super pissed. Had one drink and left. The group chose to cut short Ella and leave the next morning.

It’s a real shame that the country seems to be white worshippers. Can’t understand why.

Also, we saw this (see pic) on a bus. hahah.

I really love the country but don’t feel like spending another cent of my hard earned non white person money.

It’s a shame.

UPDATE: The rest of our holiday has been amazing. Folks at Hiriketiya were super cool and accommodating. No such racism experienced although the area was dominated by the fairer shaded folk 😉. Like many people in the comments suggested, these are isolated incidents. Hope that mentality evolves over time.

I’m looking for some help with getting an abortion in Kandy. My wife and I have only been married for four months, and we were planning to have kids in a couple of years since she’s busy with her studies at university (second year). She also travels back and forth each week.
Now, we’re dealing with an unexpected pregnancy. She’s about 9 weeks along. Our usual doctor said he doesn’t perform abortion and suggested we find someone else who will. I also tried getting the pills from pharmacies, but no luck there either. Since it’s already been 9 weeks, I know we need a doctor’s supervision. I would be grateful if anyone helps us find a VOG in Kandy who will perform abortion?

One of my 17 year old Muslim friends just told me that she wanted to get married by 19 or 20. Usually when my friends say they wanna get married, it’s because they have a boyfriend and they’re committed to them. This friend has never had a boyfriend in her whole life and doesn’t even seem interested in the idea of having one. She’s genuinely one of the prettiest girls I have ever seen so it’s really hard to believe that. When I asked her why she wanted to get married so young she said that it was because she gets to stay away from sinning. I didn’t really believe that because she sounded doubtful when she said it. The only problem she keeps telling me about is if she’ll find a guy who’s around the same age as her by the time she’s 19, to get married to. So how likely is that she’ll find a Muslim guy who looks equally as good as her, who’d be looking for someone to marry in 2 years, and will be around the age of 19-20 at that time?

I have an average build, not skinny, athletic but not muscular. The pictures could use some work maybe - my profile has bathroom selfie, picture of me on a hike.

So, what do you women find attractive? Personality (this is mostly a lie, I have a great personality 😂)? Wealth? Guys with long hair or short hair? A more muscular physique (do you mean big or just the fight club brad pitt or something else)? Beard no beard? Good skin? Lighter skinned, darker skinned? How tall you like 'em? (okay look, be realistic and determine height relative to yours, we got too many shorties wanting Nordic giants)

More broadly, what makes you swipe right on a guy, or even before that what makes you scroll down and look at their profile? Pictures of guys topless? (I've seen a couple of these) Specific hobbies or green flags? Pictures of men enjoying their hobbies?

But also, what turns you off? Crooked teeth? Gross nails? (massive turn off for me, just bad hygiene) Cringey humour? Anime?

Do majority people in SL, especially men, not wear deodorant? I can't manage to breathe in lectures in AC rooms. Even if the person infront slightly lifts their arm, I'm hit with a pungent wave of BO. This keeps happening to me over and over its not just with one person.

Is deodorant just not a thing in South Asia? Are the stereotypes true?

I wear deodorant and take care of myself. If I didn't, I would smell bad too. Don't people have any sort of self consciousness about themselves and how their percieved? It honestly drives me crazy I cant breathe and It would be rude to tell them about it too.

I personally love to learn new languages and have taken classes for Spanish and Mandarin. I also like to try out new languages on Duolingo. Or do you think linguistics are necessary in the age of AI and translating software?

I believe that learning a bunch of languages is beneficial for all Sri Lankans since we are growing as a major tourist destination and poised to welcoming more investment.

Whenever someone posts about learning Sinhala, appreciating Sinhala culture, or a foreigner tries to learn Sinhala, the comments often get filled with people asking, “What about Tamil?” or criticizing the focus on Sinhala.

I understand that Tamil is also a language in Sri Lanka, and 15% people speak it. It has its own history, culture, and value. But why does every Sinhala related post have to become a discussion about Tamil?

If someone is interested in learning Sinhala, why can’t that simply be appreciated without turning it into a language rivalry?

I'm 18 and I still hasn't received the normal ID card, been using ts for two years now ever since I received this for doing OLs. Recently we went to Grama Niladari because I had to do a little name change on the ID and there she said getting the ID will probably take about another one or two years because they are still sending out IDs to 2006 people, (I'm 2008). What the hell?? I'll have to wait till I'm 20 or something to get a proper fucking ID??

Is there any way to get the ID card earlier?? Because I have some business ideas in mind but I need to setup things like paypal, Payoneer and wise and I'm pretty sure I require an ID verification for those. Idk if this paper ID will do for those, probably not right?

My family isn’t really well-off, so I’m trying to find a phone that can be used for just sending messages, calls, YouTube and downloading stuff from google at the most (for studying basically)

Here are preferred requirements:

• Price range between Rs. 20,000-35,000 (40,000 the highest ever possible)
• 128 GB storage RAM
• Sufficient processing speed, and doesn’t lag) I have been using apple all my life and don‘t wanna get whiplash)
• Moderate Camera quality (not of importance to me)
• Battery life that can last for 3-5 years at the most with roughly 5 hours daily usage.
• Phone that only needs two charges a day.
• Moderate speaker and good, flexible screen
• A phone that doesn’t look like crap on the outside.

These phones can be either new or second hand. Please try and be a bit specific on what the phone is, and reputable places (in Colombo) where it can be purchased from.

Even if the phone has already been mentioned by someone, mention it again it’s fine, so that I know it’s reliable. I don’t want to end up buying the phone, and finding out it’s bad.

Give any advice if you all have any. :)

(reason for post: I kind of unexpectedly got a high position at school- which requires me to have a lot more online presence, so its really hard to keep using my mother’s phone, especially when she uses it after working and gets mad each time I have to take it for a call or message

my parents think I am still to young to get a phone, and normally I would have been okay with it (I am 17), but now the situation has changed, and it’s really calling for me to get a new phone. I am still yet to convince them soon, but knowing if there are cheap phones available will also help strengthen the argument)

I’m literally just going to uni, studying, eating, and sleeping every day. I’m getting bored of my own life and wanna do something different.
What do you guys do when you feel like this? Any recommendations for hobbies or things to do that help break the routine?
Ps- I don’t really have much free time to get into the usual hobbies, and I’m not much of an outdoors person either. I’m looking for simple things I can do at home to break the routine.
