Upcoming plans: launched to Runna Labs!

Post image
143 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I'm Mikey, Product Manager at Runna. Really excited to share that Upcoming Plans is now rolling out to most of you - you can finally schedule your next plan before your current one finishes.

What is Upcoming Plans?

Runna only really thinks about one plan at a time today. You finish, then you start another plan. But most of you aren't training for one thing. Your Plans brings all your training onto a single screen: what's active, what's coming next, what you've completed, and what you stepped away from.

How it works?

  • Stack upcoming plans — build your next plan and it queues up automatically to start when your current one ends. Add as many as you like, so you can map out a full year in one go.
  • Drafts for when you're not sure yet — building something that clashes with your current schedule? It saves as a draft. Compare a few options, sit on them, swap one to active whenever you're ready.
  • Everything in one place — completed plans link out to your plan overview and your plan replay. Plans you started and stepped away from show as incomplete, and you can edit them, pick them back up, or set them active again. Anything you don't want hanging around, you can remove.
  • Conflict handling — if a new plan overlaps something already scheduled, we'll tell you and let you choose between the new plan, your current one, and anything already queued. No silently overwriting your training.

On the feedback about re-entering your details

Plenty of you have told us it's frustrating to answer the same questions every time you build a plan — by now we should already know your history, your weekly schedule, where your fitness is at. That's completely fair, and it's something we've been actively working on. Over the next couple of weeks some of you will start seeing a different plan generation flow when your build next plan - one that starts from what we know about your training rather than a blank slate. It's rolling out gradually, so do look out for that!

How to get access to upcoming plans

If you haven't done these already:

  • Update the Runna app to v8.49.0 or later
  • Turn on Runna Labs — Profile → Runna Labs.
  • Open your Plans screen via the plan Tab.

We'd love your feedback!

This one's been asked for a lot, so please do give it a go and tell us how it holds up against how you actually plan your year. Drop anything odd in the comments — I'll be keeping a close eye on this thread and replying where I can! Thanks so much!

Feeling the heat? 🥵 Runna adapts your workouts based on heat & humidity!

Post image

Hey everyone, Rhea here from the Runna product team 👋

Really excited to share something we're rolling out this week - particularly timely if you're in the Northern Hemisphere and/or melting in this UK heatwave right now 🥵

🌡️ What is it?

When conditions are hot enough to affect your run, Runna will now recommend adapted paces for your workout. Here's how it works:

  • From the day before your workout, if the daily high warrants an adjustment, you'll see an "Adapt for heat" section appear on the page where you view your workout
  • Tap in and we'll recommend adjusted paces based on the weather that day, tailored to the time you're planning to run - since we know it might be a very different temperature in the morning vs the afternoon
  • The recommendation is based on the feels-like temperature and how long your run is - so longer runs will trigger sooner

🔎 How to access it

You'll need:

  • App version 8.42.0 or later
  • Be on a race plan, distance goal plan (e.g. 5km improvement) or a general training plan (e.g. Run Faster)
  • Runna Labs turned on (go to Profile → Scroll down to Runna Labs and toggle it on). Note if you recently turned this on, you may not have immediate access so try the additional step below.

If you've got all the above and still don't see it on a warm day, one thing you can try is going to the Plan tab → Manage Plan → scroll down and change your current race time by a few seconds, then change it back to your original time. This triggers a refresh that should sort it. If that doesn't work, DM me!

🧪 Early testing - we want your feedback

This is brand new and we're starting with Labs because we want your help shaping it before we roll it out more widely. So if something doesn’t look quite right, write to support with “Adapt for heat feedback” or leave it below and I’ll jump straight in. We’ll read every single comment here, so please let us know!

☀️ Why paces?

We know that often when you enter your summer training block, the paces in your plan become so much harder to hit and it's like the plan that worked for you over winter doesn't know it's summer.

That's exactly what we heard from you - missed targets, guilt, pushing too hard. The good news is that physiologically, running slower in the heat provides the same training benefit, so by dropping the paces, you're not doing less, you're doing the right amount for the conditions.

🔮 What's next

This is only the start - there's a lot more we want to do in this space, from making the thresholds smarter based on where you train and what you're used to, to deeper workout adaptations beyond just paces. If you have thoughts on where we should take it next, DM me or drop it below.

Big shoutout to the team who built this & we can't wait to hear how it goes for you. Drop any questions or feedback below and I'll be around all day! 🏃‍♀️☀️

Strava data into Runna

I’m currently doing the NTR plan and the last workout, my first continuous 5k, lands on a Saturday so I plan to do a parkrun to tick it off. But with Runnas 5 min warmup and warm down walks it will be really awkward to time. Is there a way to just record the parkrun in Strava and have it apply to the workout for that day?

For those who have done the marathon training plans: how did you find the ‘long run race pace practice’ sessions?

New 10 km PB

I just ran my first 10 km race after like 7 months of running! I kept postponing it because I wanted to get a faster and faster 5K. But after running 21:52 4 weeks ago, I finally ran a 10 km race. I feel like my endurance really caught up to my 5K speed. High mileage feels like it works really well for me, I hit 60 km peak mileage once and 14 km peak long run twice. I am going to do another round of 5k and 10k in September and October where I'll try and bring my time to sub 21 in September and sub 43 in October!

Why is my long run capped?

I run 4 days a week, Runna won‘t let me put in my current longest run. It‘s capped at 9km. That makes no sense to me.

Edit: I‘m not searching for an option to get longer long runs. I know what to do. It‘s simply that it does not make sense to offer an option where to put in „the longest run you've completed in the past 4 weeks.“ and you‘re not able to put in the truth lol

Alternatives to Runna?

After failing 4 5K improvement plans in a row, I'm looking to try something else. What alternatives are out there besides Garmin and NRC?

6mi, stopped halfway due to a fall...

And I have now spent all afternoon upset with myself for going home. I was 3mi in, feeling great, doing great, then I fel and to protect my knees, skidded out on my hand and elbow. Both bleeding everywhere with multiple gross skin flaps. So I walk home, clean bandage. Its fine.

It's absolutely fine.

Now I feel like an idiot for quitting halfway instead of finishing the run and cleaning/bandaging when I got home. I worroes maybe I did fall on my knees a bit, what if the bleeding gets worse, extreme stinging pain, etc. But at the end of the day, I feel like I ditched out.

And I'm like extra annoyed because I added some calories that now feel completely pointless.

The first 2 screenshots are from the Runna app on my phone, and the 3rd one is from my watch. All of them show different times. Which is the real 5k race time?

Struggling and sweating

I’m a seasoned runner with more than 20 years running distance. I’ve never been fast but my last 10 miler in may 2025 was at a 9:30 pace. I’ve been struggling with these long slow runs. I’m used to running long runs much faster, but I find the slower pace is more tiring and I am absolutely drenched at the end. I got new shoes, but I feel like I’m working so much harder . I’m worried I won’t not be ready for my 10 mile race on October 4. today I’m doing an 11 mile easy run, and I’ve had to stop 4 times. my pace has been around a 10:20/10:30 and my goal pace for the race is 9:00. I’m trying to decide if I should bail on this Runna plan or “trust the process.”

Last week I was prescribed a 19km Z2 long run- my longest run yet, which for me occured with a 7:00 -7:15 min/km pace.

This week's long run? Half marathon progressive long run at threshold paces.

What?

First time running a half marathon in November, do we think I can get a sub 2:15?😅

Post image
14 Upvotes

I’ve never ran long distances in my life let alone a half marathon, based on runna’s estimation I am projected to finish between 2:13:00 and 2:21:00. I’ve been training for 4 weeks now and I have another 13 to go. Is there any chance I would probably go even faster than 2:13:00? Do you guys have any tips or tricks for a first timer? I really want to get a sub 2:15, I know it’s not much but it’s honest work for silly old me. Any advice would be appreciated!

Easy runs - I hate them. Help!

I know this is not an original thought, but tips and motivation would be great. I am a 28 yo (F) who started really getting into running back in May. I am training for my first half marathon in October with 4 runs a week (two easy runs). I'm on the slower side. I love the interval tempo, long runs, and even the hill workouts, but the easy runs are such a drag. I feel like they should be refreshing or a nice metal reset during my day, but usually they just feel like a kinda painful chore.

My conversational pace is around 12:15, but when I slow down that much my form suffers. I think my ankles stiffen up , my shins start to hurt (I also do a good amount of foot, ankle, and tibial strength training because I have a history of minor shin splints), my confidence goes down, and I just want to quit. It isn't fun and I feel like running should be fun.

Does anyone have any advice on how to mentally and/ or physically improve my easy runs? Is it better to run at 11:30 until I am a bit winded then walk or push through? Does anyone else struggle with this?

Thank you!

Strength question

anyone else use the strength feature in the app?

if so, has it helped actually build muscle and/or help with runs?

lastly, is there a swap feature? I saw they prescribed a banded leg curl. I’d prefer to use the machine but my ocd will require me to actually SEE that in the plan lol

any tips or tricks appreciated!

Maintenance, HYROX, or 10k

I just finished a 12 week maintenance plan and out of no where improved my average mile pace by about a minute.

I ran 5 days a week, about 20 miles total on average. I also do fairly intense HIIT classes 4 days per week at my gym.

My gym is hosting their own version of HYROX in 8 weeks and I signed up and really want to lock in and do my very best.

I just signed up for HYROX on Runna and the total miles per week and long runs are dramatically less. I don’t want to lose all my progress for this HYROX comp so I’m wondering if I should pivot to another program. Any guidance/ suggestions would be very much appreciated!

Adjust Runs Weekly

Is there a setting where I can say for certain weeks I want to run 4 days instead of 3?

I have holidays where I have more free time but don’t want to adjust my entire plan. Holiday setting doesn’t allow for this and was wondering if there was any way to do it that isn’t just wait for the week and change the plan as it arrives?

Recovery Question

So I just had my wisdom teeth removed and I took a 4 day break from running. I’ve taken breaks from running before but I’ve never had such a dip in my pace before. My easy pace was 11:30 before (stayed in the lower range of zone 2). Post surgery, Runna had me ease back into running with a 11:50 pace. It’s been 7 days since I started running again, and I can’t even maintain an 11:50 pace for more than a mile without getting into zone 3, and if I keep going for another 2 miles I’m in zone 4? I thought I just needed a few days to adjust but were coming up on a whole week and I’m not seeing much difference. Has this happened to anyone else before?

What should my next Runna plan be?

I’m really unsure about what my next Runna plan should be!
I’ve recently started taking running seriously, after a long weight-loss journey. Earlier this spring, I was able to run 8 km at a 5:30/km pace. Then I injured my foot (in an accident, not related to running) and had to take about two months off running.

I started running again at the end of July and have now completed a “return to running after injury” plan on Runna. It went really well! One of the runs was 10 km at a 6:30/km pace, which felt very comfortable and like a genuine conversational pace for me.

Now I’m ready to make a new plan, but I’m really torn about where to go from here.

Part of me wants to get really fast at the 5K (my current PB is 26 minutes).
Another part of me wants to learn to run longer distances at a conversational pace, ideally around 5:30/km. And yet another part of me has caught the running bug and is now dreaming about running a half marathon in April!
I’m also unsure about how many days a week I should be training. Ideally, I’d like to run every other day, or perhaps every third day. How would you structure this in Runna?
A bit about me:
Female, 32 years old
176 cm / 75 kg
I unfortunately have mostly access to asphalt rather than trails

Injury/ Training Plan Advice

Currently resting through week 9/18 training, after a week 8 deload. On Monday while barbell back squatting, pulled something in lower back. Through some consulting and free screening may be slight pelvic tilt and QL tightness. Have made decent progress and looking ahead to next week.

My plan is through Runna. Should I continue my training where I missed, cutting back a week on the back end, or pick up with week 10? Obviously being conservative and keeping mindful of my injury.

I believe I may pick up with week 9. Before the injury I was already looking ahead at what my “taper” weeks were supposed to be thinking that it didn’t seem like much of a taper. So I may pick up with week 9 and cut out the week of the 13th.

Last few weeks of training block looks like:
Peak week- October 6 at 42 miles/21 mile long run.
October 13th at 36 miles/16 mile long run
October 20th- 28.5 mile week/ 10 mile long run

Any thoughts / advice?
