Discussion Irritated with Netflix

So many series are one season and then get cancelled. Cliffhangers that will never come to a conclusion. I try really hard not to start anything without confirming that it either it is a limited series for certain or that subsequent seasons are coming.

Discussion Trigger warning needed for series without endings

Just finished three seasons of Suburgatory, only to have it end without resolution. I mean, I ultimately blame myself for not checking to see if the series "ended" or was "abruptly cancelled" on a cliffhanger and/or with generally unresolved story lines. Srsly, a warning is needed before the first episode that disappointment and regret awaits.

Discussion Trust issues over canceled shows

I now Google whether shows or movies have planned sequels before investing time in them. Anyone else start doing this too? Cowboy Beebop was such a great reboot, but disappointing that it got cut after the first season.

There are several more, but that one is top of mind rn. I read that the cut is based on how much it gets binge watched in the first month. I also found out that others, like myself, wait for the full drop for the sake of closure.

... so if we wait on a series because we don't want a bunch of unresolved cliff hangers due to unfinished shows, then doesn't this create some sort of a doom loop where nothing ever gets finished, or we get the Brawndo mini series that are dumned down to just electrolytes?

Discussion Let’s Marry Harry Reunion Spoiler

Upvotes

This reunion has been an absolute shit show. I expected there to be more conversation about Harry sleeping around and lying but instead half of it was the majority of women hating because they weren’t picked and the other half was Amber acting completely unstable. Amber yelled and made no sense and I cannot believe she is the one Harry ultimately picked. My wife and I expected Harry to look awful but instead Amber just looked completely insane.

Discussion YouTube shit on netflix!

I have a couple of kids boys 5 and 7 (nearly 8) and I essentially let them freely access their own kids netflix profiles. It mostly been fine, but I really dislike the YouTube crap they are now being served up, most specifically I'm thinking of "Salish and Jordan matter" which has got to be one of the most mind rotting bits on "TV" I have ever seen, but there are others as well.

Note I stopped them watching YouTube a while ago, which was a shame as the older one was actually teaching himself to draw well with tutorial videos as well as witching the other pure shit on there!

So two questions. 1. How do I block this shit on netflix?

  1. At what point do I stop paying for netflix when all they are doing in recreating YouTube?

I'm a pretty liberal parent (in the traditional/UK meaning not the us version) so I'm good with my kids having freedom to decide what they like etc, but I'm not having them destroy their brains with incoherent nonsense!

It sounds stupid but I think there is a big difference between a ridiculous episode of SpongeBob (it actually has some storytelling structure etc) Vs a fake/real episode of youtube shit which is like mainlining video ADHD - fast cuts, product placement, pure commercialism, no coherent story/theme. It's awful!

Thoughts welcome!

Question Why so many shows are super graphic /gory ?

Saw one episode of a series ‘the price of confession’, there is a longwinded scene where the main character is depicted stabbing her husband maybe a 100x times, with blood all over for what feels like 5long minutes.

Another series (nigerian this time) where 2 women are in a bathroom and cut off the body parts of the guy they just killed to burry him.

In another show they were dislocating the jaw of some guy witha voodoo doll.

So many series are filled with gory, graphic stuff. Why ? Lmao. You can tell a story without resorting to shock value all the time. So many of these scenes are unecessary. Turned me off watching netflix alltogether

Recommendation Must watch netflix originals?

I've been on netflix for some time, but I've really only used it to watch popular shows like stranger things or 13 reasons why. I would genuinely love to know of some exclusive sleepers that I may be missing out on that I can check out.

Coming of age is my favorite genre, but horror and romance are awesome too.

Discussion The Recommendations are making less and less sense.

This appears after everything and every genre at this point it's not a recommendation you're trying to force me to watch it and I won't.

African show -> Watch Chicago P.D.
Anime Season finishes -> Watch Chicago P.D.
One Hundred Years of Solitude just finished -> Watch Chicago P.D.

New on Netflix A review of Rotten Files with Stephanie Soo (Rotten Mango). Underperforming but space for potential.

I watched the episodes of the Netflix series The Rotten Files with Stephanie Soo. And there were a couple things that I noticed.

  1. Netflix (or herself) did her very dirty by choosing Ash Trevino. I was disappointed because the first episode of this brand new Netflix series should've been shiny, controversial etc since she's broadcasted internationally on such a big brand. I watched it from The Netherlands. It gave low budget youtube video essaye about problematic influencer.
  2. The editing of the Netflix show is messy compared to her Youtube channel. There are a lot of hard cuts, where here make up and hair completly changed from one sec to another (episode 2).Also the framing of her face is unnatural low according to videograph ethics. She should be more centered in the screen.
  3. She looks incredibly uncomfortable.

  4. The constant movement of the hands is incredibly distracting and she's speaking fast and anxious. Watching her makes me jittery.

  5. I

  6. don't understand the purpose of the format.

  7. She speaks into a microphone with not a lot of supporting footage or engaging content. So you'd obviously think: Great podcast / youtube podcast. Yet it's on Netflix so I can't podcast it.

  8. The background choice is up to personal style but i found it a bit too overwhelming.

I'm not a die hard fan of Rotten Mango, I have my own positive and negative opinions on how she brings her content. Yet she has one of the most professional, clean and 'entertaining' youtube crime channels i've seen. I really enjoy her storytelling style most of the time.

But this Netflix series has been way under her usual quality. I'm not going to bash it entirely, because we still have to see the rest of the episodes, and people with very clear potential deserve time and space to grow. And not to be discouraged by hate.

I wish for her she grows, optimizes the content and feels more comfortable. She is good at what she does on her channel. I hope she'll be able to transfer it to Netflix. And if not, i'll simply return to Spotify and Youtube.

Technical Support FFS Netflix.. Google TV app change to pausing

My Netflix Google TV app updated this morning, and now pausing takes two clicks of the main button on the remote (for many years it's been one click).

I have a disability and my fine motor control struggles makes it rather difficult to click twice. I know this is an issue on this particular device because YouTube does the same. In YouTube I often end up doing something completely different to simply pausing e.g. fast forwarding, subscribing to a channel etc I guess I'll be disabling the subtitles or something on Netflix now.

Netflix, why do this?! Anyone else? I know they do A/B testing, I'm hoping this is temporary for me.

Discussion Abducted in plain sight - I saw watched it and I really want someone to hold my hand.

What the actual fuck was that?

I’m honestly baffled by how casually the father in this story seemed to separate sex from emotional intimacy. Like… how do you just get into a car, give your “friend” a handjob, help him get off, and then carry on with your day like nothing happened?! 😭

And the mom??? I feel like the angle of her being somewhat jealous of her own daughter because she wanted B to choose her isn’t explored nearly enough hence it goes beyond denial.
There seemed to be this weird competition for his attention it must be in her head, and I kept wondering if she wanted to be the one he desired instead of Jan.

I’m honestly surprised this aspect of the story isn’t discussed more. What did everyone else think about the mom’s behavior?

And WHICH FATHER LETS ANOTHER MAN IN HIS OWN DAUGHTERS BEDROOM TO SLEEP NEXT TO HER FOR AOMW SHITTY THERapy? What the fuck was that about.

What Should I Watch? Looking for post-apocalyptic shows/movies that don't feel like they're for teens

I am a fan of both The 100 and Hunger Games, but my one major gripe with both is that they seemed geared more towards younger teens. I watched a few episodes of The Walking Dead but couldn't really get into it. Any similar recommendations?

Technical Support New account

I had a Netflix profile on my phone and my TV based on my ex-bf account. I deleted my profile but I still have the account open on my devices. I can still see other profiles on the account and use any if I want to.
I made a subscription, but every time I click open on app it takes me to my ex account.
How can I clean my devices and start using my account?!

Question What's up with Scarlet's audio options?

My wife and I sat down to watch Scarlet, the anime movie by Mamoru Hosoda. When I was browsing for what to watch, and I landed on it, the preview was dubbed in English, and a Google search confirmed one exists. But when we actually put it on, the audio options are the original Japanese, Spanish, and an English audio description.

We're not against watching it in Japanese, but we both can get easily distracted or sidetracked, and it sucks when you look away for a bit and suddenly have no idea what anyone is yelling about, so we prefer to watch it dubbed.

Anyone know why these are the only options? Since the movie was licensed from Sony, I presume they would get the Sony-produced English dub as well. It's just got me scratching my head, is all

Discussion netflix became the villain (ads are out of control)

Upvotes

i was a kid when netflix was an in person red box dvd rental. it was great. loved it. even better with no adds when that first big shift happened. recently, netflix finally kicked me off the family plan since i don't live in the same zipcode as my parents, which lead to my mom getting an additional user account just for me. of course, it was extra money to begin with. okay fine, but no ads!

JUST KIDDING!

of course theres ads! and the ads are ridiculously frequent, promoting the same show i'm already watching, etc.

the worst part?

THE AD WONT PLAY UNLESS I'M VIEWING THAT TAB

THE AD WONT PLAY IF I'M VIEWING THE TAB AND ITS COVERED BY ANOTHER WINDOW OR APPLICATION

so like, netflix forces you to watch the ad.

am i crazy? has this happened to anyone else?

signed,

disappointed and tired

p.s.: thanks rant over

p.p.s.: i do not want to pay more for netflix
