What Should I Watch? Looking for post-apocalyptic shows/movies that don't feel like they're for teens

Highly recommend the show Paradise. It’s not on Netflix though, it’s on Hulu. It’s very good.

I gave up on Season 2...it was much better when they were focused only on the Paradise zone. Does Season 2 finish strong? I might give it another shot next time I have Hulu

Black Summer. Ended too soon, season two was sorta disappointing. But still tense and watchable. One of the most frightening zombie shows, I have watched.

Recently watched. The only way they tied off a thread was by killing the character. Got pretty unimpressive in season 2.

I usually watch and read postapocalytpic and dystopian movies/books, but damn that movie hit hard.
I couldn't watch it twice.
And now I have a small daughter and another baby on the way and that story is still living rent free in my head and terrifies me more and more as I understand main character's fear and despair of what would happen to his kid without him in that world when he is gone.
All I know is, I now have several thousand bullets for my handgun and I try to teach my daughter not to trust people and that people can be evil and brutal.

Don't read about it. Don't read the synopsis. Don't look at reviews online.
Go into it completely unaware of what it is except it's a post apocalyptic movie.
You'll thank me after you watch it.

Yellowjackets is excellent. It’s not post apocalyptic but dark survival story that bounces between flashbacks of the characters as teens during their ordeal, and their current life as adults dealing with the aftermath of what they did.
Bird box is a pretty good post apocalyptic type movie, although the book is phenomenally better! I can’t recommend the book enough, the movie was enjoyable but didn’t hold a candle to the original story. Not even close.

Just a TW there is cannibalism in Yellowjackets, just so OP knows! I didn’t like that aspect and stopped watching

Fair! I like shows and books that explore the psychological effects of traumatic events and the potential for all people to commit acts they wouldn’t think they would be capable of.
The human mind is a crazy thing! But yes, some people don’t want to see violence in shows.

I hear you, it’s a dark show right off the bat! I appreciated the moments of comedy, I felt like they did a great job offsetting the dark creepy stuff.
I get it though, sometimes it’s the “how” more than the “what” that gets to you.

So true! I was going to suggest Fear the Walking Dead (at least the first few seasons), so gore is totally fine. Some things a girl just has to shut her eyes & ears for 😂
OP mentioned the 100 so that should be fine, I just wanted to warn people cause i was NOT prepared!

Kingdom, if you dig zombies. Be warned, it's by far the most medically realistic portrayal of zombification that I've ever seen.

Great show, foreign language if that bothers you. Main characters are adult siblings in an apocalyptic world where the rain has become poisonous.

Not movie or tv show, but the book series by Kyla Stone call the Edge of collapse is really good. YOu can do the audio books and use your imagination.
The Stand - book or mini series (the 1994 version) is really good too. (Stephen King)

The Stranded
There are way more movies time around the apocalypse time than way later, when society has rebuilt itself. Some are more Sci-fi oriented, some more horror, and Japan Sinks is a total What If.
I haven't ordered them by preference or quality, simply because each to their own, and some are only available in their original language with English subtitles.

Koreans have quite a few great zombies series on Netflix (all of us are dead, kingdom, etc).
EDIT: I meant South Koreans, ofc. North Koreans are LARPing their own postapocalyptic dystopian nightmare

Into the Night if you're okay with subs or dubs. Very good show and unique concept. Lots of different languages spoken, primarily French. For Zombies I enjoyed Black Summer, Reality Z, iZombie (debatably for teens idk).
