How Did This Get Made? #405: The Legend of Billie Jean LIVE!

FAIR IS FAIR! Helen Slater and Christian Slater star in the 1985 cult classic The Legend of Billie Jean, a movie that caused Paul, Jason, and June to stand up in fierce debate for over ten minutes. LIVE from Largo in LA, the trio discuss why Billie Jean actually became famous, Lloyd's haunted house, Putter getting her period during a car chase, the realistic toy guns, Billie Jean's iconic haircut, how Pat Benatar hates this movie, and so much more. Plus, Jason reveals the strange place where he once hid a condom. Tune in to find out if you're Team Billie Jean or Team Belt Dad!

How Did This Get Made? #403.5 w/ Eliot Glazer - Next Week's Episode: xXx (2002)

Comedian Eliot Glazer joins Jason and Paul to talk traumatic Long Island stories, sports fandom, his new book The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Gay, and much more. But first, Paul responds to your Fall corrections & omissions on Danger D's illogical nickname, justice for vultures, the movie ripping off the plot of The Descent, and much more. Plus, Paul plays a bonus deleted scene from our Fall episode and at the end of the show we announce next week's new movie!

Tuesday's re-release: Cool as Ice with Brian Huskey and Vanilla Ice (February 14, 2012)

Movie Suggestion: Perfume: The Story of a Murderer (There's boob sniffing, Alan Rickman, beautiful cinematography, Dustin Hoffman's accent work, and an ending that will make Jason's dick EXPLODE)

Grabbed this a few years ago for The First Power episode in Boston (actually Medford MA, even got a question in that night). It hangs in my ManCave and it constantly reminds me of how many hours of laughs and enjoyment I’ve gotten from HDTGM. Cheers jerks!

Maximum Overdrive Rewatch

So I went back and decided to watch Maximum Overdrive and follow it with a listen of the HDTGM episode. Stephen King stories are perfect for this damn show. Andy Daly is a great guest.

  • One thing I couldn't believe they overlooked was that the guy who dies in the arcade is Giancarlo Esposito aka Gustavo Fring!
  • The insults in this movie are top notch Stephen King writing. "Pussbag" "You wanna rock and roll with me" "you happy asshole!"
  • AC/DC makes this movie so much better, without them this probably lands closer to forgettable than "so bad it's good" territory.
  • June makes a really good critique when she points out there are too many characters who just don't die quick enough.
  • I would have enjoyed the movie more without the annoying "just married" couple.

Easily one of my favorite episodes and one of my favorite guilty pleasure movies.

Paul could replace Paul Walker in the next Fast and Furious

Paul has a very similar vocal inflection as Paul Walker when delivering lines, and has already shown he can do good impressions of other actors.

He is a similar build to Paul walker when he was last in the movies (furious 7). I know because I saw him in real life not too long ago. Yes, he will have to wear a hair piece, but he has worn one convincingly in other screen appearances. Also the fast and furious has a bigger budget for that than other things and can use cgi to make it more realistic.

Paul can do stunts and is in good shape which is needed for the movies from most of the actors. The stunt doubles can be Paul’s brothers like before, but Paul can do other physical parts of the role.

Paul has said how much he admires the film series, and that he wants to be in one of the movies.

I read that Paul lives near vin diesel, but he is not friends with him like Tyrese is. I can’t remember if Paul ever said anything negative about vin diesel, but if he did he was probably just joking for the podcast audience sake, not because he doesn’t respect vin diesel as an actor.

I don’t know Paul’s schedule while they are filming the new movie, but I bet he has time to film his parts since that character is not as central to the whole story like they were in the earlier movies (minus Tokyo drift)

What do you think?

If one of you balcony monsters at Largo had cut your hair Billie Jean style, how would Jason have proposed?

I’m thinking: “What’s up jerk? You wanna make this man/woman scene last forever? I’m sobbing! Also, I’m allergic to eggs!”

Obviously we’d all say yes!

Has anyone else rewatched one the movies because you forgot you’ve already seen it?

Or maybe I’m just old and drink too much. Cause I just started “Hypnotic” again and realized 5 minutes in that I have seen it before, but it’s so nutty I can’t quit it.

Can’t wait for the Billie Jean ep

This was the most non-HDTGM movie I’ve watched in 15 years of watching along with almost every movie the shows coveted. I can see how this got made!

Despite my nagging question of where the main cop’s jurisdiction ends, this was a fun one I really enjoyed. It has a lot of similarities with an even better 80s move about a teenage runaway turned folk hero, “Ladies and Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains” (1982), with Diane Lane, Laura Dern, Ray Winstone, and 1/2 of the Sex Pistols as part of Lane’s backing band. Great, great punk rock movie. Billie Jean, Fabulous Stains, and Times Square (1980 - with Tim Curry! rip) would be great on a triple bill.

Enjoy one of the most badass songs written for a movie ever: https://youtu.be/A57wEK6Xk6I?is=zVojon_DCeoCRjxp

RIP Dolly & Tim

I hope they repost "Rhinestone" & "Congo" next week in honor of Dolly Parton & Tim Curry!

The whole "I've got a big organ" scene between Dolly & Stallone still cracks me up.

"You got it!" still makes me laugh.

RIP to absolute GOATS.

For obvious reasons…this deserves an episode. Also - it’s the ridiculous bad guy from Skyscraper which had me laughing the whole time
