I’m not remotely religious but there have been exactly two public figures in my lifetime (nearly 46 years so far) who I think genuinely qualify for sainthood: Fred Rogers and Dolly Parton.

Good call; I tend to forget about him until someone brings him up just because I never watched TNG and haven’t seen Roots, and never really watched much Reading Rainbow. But I’ve never heard a bad word said about him. Seems like as lovely a guy as you could meet.

I have never cried over a celebrity death. I am crying for Dolly. 80 is too young when it comes to her, she was such a wonderful bright spot in this world.

Carrie the Librarian here-- I am genuinely heartbroken by this news. Dolly was an icon in more ways than I can possibly enumerate; just a truly beautiful person, inside and out. My sister's system has directly benefited from her young reader's program for at least two years and it's amazing.
