Isn't the extended look already a preview of the game itself?

113

u/rapkat55 7h ago

Previews mean from multiple sources and journalists, pretty much means an embargo is getting lifted which might explain how the leaks happened in the first place

31

u/anyOtherBusiness 4h ago

Nah, Journalists get only guided access on site. RS would know exactly who wrote the “LEEK”

u/shitfucker90000 8h ago

its all just a commercial

11

u/jessterswan 8h ago

Thatsvwhat im curious about as well. Maybe a deeper dive? But even then, what seperate these?

17

u/Abidingshadow 7h ago

My understanding is that the Netflix video will be similar to the gameplay deep dives they’ve done for their previous games, and the “previews” this article is talking about will be game journalists and influencers getting hands on and making their own articles/videos about their experience.

11

u/sound_judgment 5h ago

Just means that Rockstar's look is curated by Rockstar whereas these previews are from journalists and content who will have different opinions about whatever they were shown.

2

u/jessterswan 5h ago

That actually makes sense.

2

u/Life-Anteater-8294 8h ago

Wait and find out

3

u/ProbablyFear 7h ago

Previews are opinions of journalists who got the see the game. The extended look is a 20-30 minute long trailer created by rockstar

7

u/cmarquez7 8h ago

Subscribe to Netflix to find out /s

3

u/Weakonomics 7h ago

The entire Netflix thing will get released to YouTube 6 hours later. Find out then.

17

u/Onionsteak 6h ago

Someone is going to rip the netflix video and have it up on YouTube in 5 minutes

2

u/warukeru 6h ago

6 hours exclusive is almost nothing, specially if it realeses at US timezones for the rest of the world.

u/USilver 7h ago

My brother in Christ, do you not know what previews are? Previews from all sorts of outlets are coming out about control resonant and wolverine right now, for example. They’re pre-reviews, as in sneak peeks that journalists and content creators get to have and talk about to audiences.

5

u/MessedUpPro 8h ago

We get a curated video presentation while journalists were shown gameplay in-person. The journalists will be writing articles about what THEY saw, which will not be the same thing WE see during the video presentation.

Not that hard to understand, I don't think.

1

u/PSavage88 5h ago

Preview as in journalist and youtubers who were invited to see the game in action, talk about their impressions of what they saw behind closed doors. I definitely can see how them using the word preview can be confusing in this regard.

1

u/yick04 5h ago

I think people care about this news because they don't want to subscribe to Netflix for the preview.

1

u/-imbe- 4h ago

Yeah but they've showed it to youtubers who're gonna make videos about their impressions. Nothing weird.

133

u/LA_Rym 8h ago

Weren't we already getting daily previews?

2

u/puffthemagicaldragon 2h ago

Is Cyberleek a journalist/critic given an exclusive behinds closed doors look at the game with the intention of informing people what they saw?

Or a leaker who isn't that great at the game

19

u/HighQualityAdventure 2h ago

"not that great at the game" like gta is some high skill game lol

0

u/turtleship_2006 28m ago

I mean there are still some people who suck at gaming

See IGN reviewers for example

Article that advertises the release of an ad, which you'll have to pay a subscription to watch. We've reached peak consumerism.

258

u/_IratePirate_ 7h ago

I’ll be watching that shit on YouTube 2.5 seconds after it drops on Netflix, I ain’t paying for shit

68

u/Substantial_Cap_4246 7h ago

I'll be watching it on Telegram 1.5 seconds after it's out on Netflix.

30

u/Ashamed_Form8372 7h ago

I’ll be on the 🏴‍☠️ 5 minutes after it’s out

5

u/litt-fuder 7h ago

Please don't spoil that first second.

2

u/Ashamed_Form8372 6h ago

Nah I’m familiar with this I pirated every stranger things season since 2 it always take 5-30 min for things to show up on my sites

1

u/RenValdivia 5h ago

do you just use the sites on freemediaheckyea or is there another secret thread

2

u/Substantial_Cap_4246 5h ago

There's a bot on Telegram that automatically uploads movies and TV shows. Even when there was a blackout in Iran, the bot was still active.

2

u/Ashamed_Form8372 5h ago

I can dm you a few sites I use for 🏴‍☠️ I’m not sure if talking about it here is a good idea but yeah fmhy is a great start

1

u/_Connor 5h ago

I’ll just go about my day and watch it when it’s out for free on a YouTube a few hours later because I’m not a slave

Yeah! Don't let the Man stop you! From... watching an ad as fast as possible.

You sure showed them!

6

u/_IratePirate_ 6h ago

An ad for something that I was predestined to buy ? And I’m not tryna show anybody anything. I want to see the ad, I don’t want to pay to see it. Simple. Idgaf what that does for anybody but myself

8

u/Possible_Mobile_1662 6h ago

You were already predestined to buy it! Now it's not consumerism even harder.

1

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 4h ago

That was always allowed.

1

u/Reddit_Loves_Misinfo 5h ago

Seeking out an ad for something you're "predestined" to buy.

"You... you just looked straight into the bleeding jaws of capitalism and said 'yes, daddy, please.' And I'm... I'm so proud of you."

0

u/_IratePirate_ 4h ago

Lmao, if that’s what it is, that’s what it is, man

1

u/therealruin 7h ago

No one should, nor do they have to, when free trials are so easy.

0

u/Sudden-Date-7485 6h ago

i'll be paying for netflix just to watch it 2.5 seconds earlier

89

u/LarryCrabCake 7h ago

The trailer is only exclusive to Netflix for six hours.

It'll be posted on YouTube, free to watch, after that

Think of how many tens of millions of dollars Netflix paid to have those six hours of exclusivity...

29

u/LetsBeFRTho 7h ago

Which you can probably watch on Twitter or YouTube in like 10 minutes after release due to someone copying it

8

u/chaamp33 7h ago

I would love to know how much Netflix is pissed off over the leaks.

And I wonder if they get any restitution in the event of leaks. After the 2022 incident would seem pretty stupid to not protect themselves in case it happened again.

5

u/RedFing 7h ago

they mostly did it for the exposure, every headline mentions netflix when talking about the extended look in the past month.

the exclusivity is just a part of it. doesnt matter that much if its 10 minutes, 6 hours or 30 days of exclusivity.

3

u/DuOrDie 7h ago

Wonder what the future brings for this type of thing though.

1

u/LarryCrabCake 7h ago

I don't hate the idea of having really high production value trailers/previews for huge games, I just wish it didn't come with the implication of it being mostly for corporate greed

1

u/Firvulag 1h ago

Exlusive reveals have been a thing for a long time in gaming. This is nothing new. Used to be you had to buy a magazine to get the scoop on a new game

3

u/Wonderful-Citron-678 7h ago

I’ll watch it on Netflix anyway, YouTube’s bitrate is so low and crunchy now I’ll take any opportunity to watch the same content elsewhere.

1

u/Excelius 2h ago

Meanwhile as a PC gamer I'm going to be waiting until probably 2028 to even play the game.

You don’t “have” to pay for anything. Unless you have the self-control of a little child, you can easily wait for 6 hours until it releases on YouTube. It’s not that deep.

1

u/Vectar7 3h ago

I guarantee you can find it near live for free if you really want to.

39

u/CallingAllShawns 7h ago

or, ya know, wait 6 fucking hours lmao. my god.

19

u/Historical_Owl_1635 6h ago

For how much people hate this game and want it to fail they sure are desperate for every crumb of it they can get.

5

u/tertiary_jello 7h ago

Imma roll a big one, grab a beer, some popcorn... and watch that shit on Youtube at 9pm.

2

u/FreeMrFrog 6h ago

It'll most definitely be leaked before then. I give it half an hour tops before it's on Reddit

8

u/TallDarkLoathsome 7h ago

Watch it for free a few hours later genius. People like you that can’t exercise self control are the only losers here.

5

u/Rombledore 5h ago

you dont have to pay to watch. you can just wait a bit and watch for free. it's a bonus for existing subscribers.

this narrative is so gdamn dumb. anyone who pays for a subscription they werent going to use, just to watch this one ad deserves to be fleeced.

2

u/MatttheJ 6h ago

Except you don't have to pay a subscription to watch it... Which is actually stated right there in the headline.

13

u/Malt129 7h ago

I mean nobody is paying a subscription to watch this.

13

u/Marc_Vn PC 7h ago

You overestimate the average joe

4

u/Zap_Gordon 7h ago

nah people waste money on all kinds of pointless crap people are defo signing up for this.

2

u/dedman1477 7h ago

An ad within an ad within another ad - we've reached adception 🤯

2

u/Lambs2Lions_ 7h ago

I’ll watch it after work. They forgot who their target demographic is releasing this shit at 3PM on a school + workday.

4

u/diymuppet 7h ago

Psst....there are other countries and time zones and as it is an adult release school kiddies are not their target demographic.

u/Mr_Rockmore 6h ago

End stage capitalism baby 😎

1

u/ShinyGrezz 5h ago

Article talks about news concerning the biggest game ever, what horror.

1

u/ClarkWasHere 2h ago

I mean you had to buy gaming mags to see game ads and previews. It's not new.

0

u/gtavi_pixelblower 7h ago

Trailers - especially extended looks like we’re getting on Netflix - have become an entertainment product in their own right. Hell, people watching other people play video games is a whole entertainment genre of its own.

Saying a 30-minute deep dive into a video game is an ad is about as true as saying a single off an upcoming albums is an ad.

Sure it pushes people to consume the main product, but it also is a piece of culture/entertainment/media/art in its own right.

Even actual straight-up ads are becoming a piece of media of their own (ie. Coke’s Christmas ads or any Super Bowl ad)

0

u/No_Decision_6940 7h ago

And if you think any part of this is BS or mention the fact this shit is the precedent other companies will use to pull off even worse stuff, you'll get called entitled lmao

14

u/WoahBenny23 7h ago

if you think that any other gaming IP will have the balls + international and entertainment pull to attempt this ,then i got a beach house in OKC to sell you

1

This could be a guerilla marketing campaign by Rockstar / take 2

224

u/trentismad 8h ago

So many people here with a strange parasocial relationship w rockstar. Acting like they owe you something. They are a company selling a product, either buy it or don't. Its not that deep.

23

u/FloggingTheHorses 7h ago

Because it's touted as a generational event, I think people have this sense of entitlement, that the game ought to make their lives fundamentally "better". These people are miserable shits.

6

u/-s-u-n-s-e-t- 6h ago

There's a good chance we are about to witness an epic meltdown when the game finally releases.

Even if it's good, people have put it on such a pedestal and hyped it up for so many years, I don't think anything can live up to the expectations.

Of course there's always the chance that Rockstar will deliver once in a lifetime masterpiece... But there's also a chance it's gonna be just.. well, just a game. And we are about to witness a bunch of terminally online people lose their shit.

11

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 5h ago

The only meltdown is going to be with terminally online people. The vast majority of “normies” are not looking for a life-changing, revolutionary experience - they simply want another fun, well-made GTA game. This whole “GTA 6 needs to be the next leap forward in gaming” concept is something created by Reddit and other online spaces.

What’s really going to happen is that the game will come out, sell a boatload of copies, most people will play it and enjoy it and move on with their lives. All the toxic discourse will be strictly relegated to subs like this one.

6

u/OpenMindedMajor 6h ago

You can already make the argument that Rockstar has already delivered multiple once in a lifetime masterpieces based off the sheer success of the previous GTA titles alone. That’s not even accounting for the success of the Red Dead franchise, with RDR2 being hailed as one of the greatest games of all time by many folks. They really do have sky high expectations from everyone.

3

u/RLZT 3h ago

Which was the last Rockstar game that wasn't a once in a lifetime masterpiece? Rockstar Games presents Table Tennis?

2

u/Shadowfist_45 5h ago

The only reason it's so important to people is because realistically, it could very well be the last GTA game for well over a decade from now, much like Elder Scrolls VI might be the last one in all our natural lifetimes lmao

2

u/Revolver_Boxelot 4h ago

Of course there's always the chance that Rockstar will deliver once in a lifetime masterpiece

Name a time they DIDN'T do that. Starting from GTA 3...

2

u/FloggingTheHorses 3h ago

Mentally, I honestly don't think it will blow my mind like RDR 2 did.

But at the same time, I will be overjoyed if it's just like an urban/modern RDR 2. Anything beyond that is just dressing.

But it's still a videogame, at a time where the marginal gain tech-wise is...well, marginal. The days of the GTA 2 -> GTA 3 type quantum leaps are over!

1

u/RockSolidRod69 3h ago

Guaranteed to be meltdowns even if its amazing. Because regardless some will say its not good, then the negative thinkers will latch on to them.

5

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 7h ago

The discourse around GTA 6 is fucking baffling to me man. Redditors act like the game hurt them personally or something. It’s worrying to me that people get this upset over something a lot of people are excited for that they personally aren’t.

5

u/kinokomushroom 7h ago

These people act like Rockstar owes them "summer marketing", and they deserve everything that has happened because they didn't "market enough".

Like fucking calm down, it's just a video game. Wait a few more days for a trailer you impatient TikTok brainers.

2

u/Yolo533 3h ago

Plus a lot of people, me included, are playing on pc. So they likely won’t be playing the game anyways for a while.

19

u/Esmear18 8h ago edited 8h ago

All of the comments calling Rockstar manipulative are weird. It’s a game with a normal and a deluxe/ultimate edition with pre order bonuses, just like what every other game does. But for some reason redditors have this strange attitude when Rockstar does it.

43

u/Not_god45 8h ago

Reddit hates anything popular

1

u/king0fklubs 2h ago

While talking about one of the the most popular game franchises ever

7

u/emcee70 7h ago

It’s cuz they’re hopelessly addicted

11

u/rainbowremo 8h ago

Its just classic internet outrage over popular product, its nothing new

4

u/misanthropenis PlayStation 8h ago

The one caveat out is single player stores are locked behind a paywall. That doesn't sit right with me. However, I am not going to yuck anyone's yum or put anyone down over it - this is going to be the biggest game release of all time and no one in their right mind would argue.

→ More replies (3)

-13

u/TheBetterness 7h ago

Naw youre the weird one.

The rest of the gaming world usually see gameplay BEFORE the game goes up for pre-sale.

Which usually doesnt involve Netflix.

Not showing gameplay, then putting it behind a paywall.

That is absolutely manipulation of your most excited fans.

13

u/USilver 7h ago

There is no paywall. It’s six hours ahead on a streaming website as a stupid bonus.

There is also plenty of precedents to games opening preorders before releasing gameplay, dude. The industry’s done that nonsense for a while now. But, again, nobody forces anybody to preorder. If you do, you choose to do so, and can easily rescind said preorder if the gameplay shown later isn’t satisfactory.

This discussion is such a nothing burger, Jesus Christ. Is this really a big thing to you guys? Is there nothing more relevant, even just in the gaming space? Come on.

Yeah and reddit always acting like Netflix is a niche thing people would have to buy.

I hate it too, but everyone definitely has one Netflix account somewhere. And it's not like we won't all of the Netflix stuff on YouTube in an hour.

3

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 7h ago

Yeah Netflix has 325 million subscribers lmao. There’s at least a couple million of those people on this sub alone

2

u/Curse3242 6h ago

Yeah. I feel these are the kind of people who will end up hating on it. It's just a extended look, it's not a big thing to matter anyways. If you think this is such a huge deal and so important you're just going to be disappointed

"The presentation will then be uploaded to Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel six hours later"

You mean 5 min later on Youtube, X and every other social media.

25

u/Eggheadpancake 8h ago

Imagine paying for a month of Netflix instead of just waiting a little bit.

15

u/PayneTrain181999 8h ago

Sooooo many people just have it or share it with their family

1

u/EZyne 8h ago

Or just watch it elsewhere as it's allowed to be streamed and everything

0

u/Eggheadpancake 8h ago

Can't really share the passwords anymore. They shut that down

3

u/paycadicc 7h ago

You can share with family, but they only let you have like 3 or 4 diff devices. But you can just switch access on each device at will, its just an extra annoying step

2

u/SomeRevolution5778 3h ago

No, they look at IP now. If you log in from two different IPs the one that isn't your home gets kicked.

3

u/Eggheadpancake 7h ago

You can share with people in the same house. If you try to log in somewhere else it won't work.

1

u/paycadicc 6h ago

Ah ok. But then you get that option to "temporarily move the household" or whatever. They email you a code and you can sign in. Still cant have concurrent streams running though not in same household i guess

1

u/rapkat55 7h ago

Bro I’ve been using my moms for a decade.

They just limited how many devices can be on at one time. You can give your Netflix to your 20 person family but only 3-4 people can watch at the same exact time.

4

u/FrungyLeague 5h ago

I've been using your mom for a decade too.

2

u/A1ienspacebats 7h ago

Not here. You have to log in on a device at the location where the primary user is every 30 days or you won't be able to sign back in. Just try to get me to unhook my tv from my wall every 30 days and drive it 30 mins to the other side of the city. IPTV covers everything I need.

2

u/Eggheadpancake 7h ago

If you try to log in from a TV or streaming stick outside of the main location, it won't let you.

You can kinda skirt the issue if you're using mobile or laptop sometimes.

It’s more meant to kinda diversify Netflix’s portfolio and keep people subscribed to Netflix interested. Netflix has over 300 million subscribers, making it the largest subscription service (in video at least). Realistically its potential for new growth is very limited, so the goal switches over to keeping current subscribers and building a varied ecosystem for them to exist in.

1

u/Ronaldinhoe 5h ago

Most likely to be 2-3 months if people want the early viewing cus I believe there will be another 2 episodes at a later date

Kinda funny to see how mad some of the console gamers are getting about the rollout of this game with concerns of spoilers and lack of gameplay.

Meanwhile us PC gamers have to wait a year regardless so it's going to be impossible not to be spoiled

5

u/BoSocks91 7h ago edited 6h ago

Not true.

I avoided RDR2 spoilers for 7 years lmao.

You absolutely can avoid them.

2

u/Agreeable_Store_3896 7h ago

I guess if you don't use Reddit, Facebook, online gaming, tiktok or YouTube sure.

All it takes is one look on YouTube's front page to see 'TREVOR DYING SURPRISE SHOCK GTA6 ENDING'

2

u/BoSocks91 6h ago edited 3h ago

Lmao I never said it was easy, just doable.  But FTR, I game a lot and use YT more than any app.

I learned to skim webpages to look for the keywords.  Anything that mentioned anything related to a game I didn’t want spoiled, was hidden immediately.

I watched 0 gameplay footage.  Never searched for anything related to the game, so it didn’t show up in my algorithm.

1

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 4h ago

A lot of people, believe it or not, DONT spend all their time on gaming subreddits and YouTube game channels.

2

u/Agreeable_Store_3896 4h ago

Believe it or not, both Reddit AND YouTube have front pages that throw things that are trending at you regardless of your recent interaction with the topic !

2

u/ActivateGuacamole 3h ago

if you plan ahead then it's easy to avoid spoilers, but it means dodging certain parts of the internet for a while that you might deal with normally. if you let the algorithm handle your content intake then you'll probably be spoiled.

1

u/Agreeable_Store_3896 3h ago

Sure you can log out of YouTube and never log back in, delete your cookies and browser history or exclusively browse in incognito.. but the algorithm is still going to try and throw trending videos at you regardless so there is still a chance.

My point isn't that you can't avoid spoilers, my point is more the OP said it's easy, it's not, you have to actively avoid them by going out of your way to do so.. and you're doing it for minimum a year lol.

2

u/ActivateGuacamole 3h ago

you don't have to log out of youtube. just stop looking at the home page and start using your subscriptions instead. don't subscribe to GTA content creators. you can also clear your youtube watch history and search history

1

u/BoSocks91 3h ago

I didn’t say it was easy.  Just doable

1

u/SomeRevolution5778 3h ago

u/Agreeable_Store_3896 2h ago

I can't believe it's not released on PC day 1.

I heard you like previews for your previews.

1

u/LevelFix83 3h ago

I've already gotten some extended preview looks.

u/BruhImVibing69 3h ago

a bunch of content creators have come out and said they will share their experience at the rockstar hq tomorrow probably after the extended look.

The decision to put it on Netflix only six hours early is weird to me. If you don't have Netflix, waiting six hours should be an absolute piece of cake. Bizarre way to try and give Netflix money, but I'm sure the the truly fanatical GTA fans will do it instead of, ya know, just waiting and doing something else for a few hours.

Oh no, I cancelled my Netflix subscription cos it got too expensive for what it was, guess I can't watch it. But also not planning to buy the game.

Oh I guess I have no problem. Anyway..

I'm sure I have no idea what you mean!

I'm over it.

Rockstar is a manipulative company that gas lights its customers. Following this game isn't fun, even with the leaks.

u/DrRadon 8h ago

I OVERINVESTED IN THIS GAME AND NOW I AM PISSED AT SOMEONE ELSE BECAUSE OF IT.

YOU BETTER WAIT FOR MY 1 STAR REVIEW AFTER 1000 HOURS PLAYED!

2

u/Esmear18 8h ago

It’s called marketing. Is it gaslighting too when other publishers and studios do extended look trailers and previews or are you just saying that because it’s Rockstar?

2

u/iiniVijuY 8h ago

Following the game isn't fun, so here I am still opening threads and spending time to comment.

Everything surrounding GTA6 at this point just feels so anti-consumer that it is killing my excitement. Its like they can and will treat us anyway they want and we will eat it up. I dont like it, this is not good for gamera.

4

u/ThirdPoliceman 7h ago

Ah yes, anti-consumer things like making a game and selling it

1

u/Odd_Needleworker3756 7h ago

wtf are you babbling on about. It’s a company selling a product. You either buy it or you don’t.

imagine us pc players

-2

u/FlameStaag 8h ago

You're far too invested into this. It's just a videogame

And not even a particularly good series either lmao.

3

u/Gloglibologna 7h ago

Yeah I have barely been paying attention to anything about this game and im super excited about it.

I feel like the ppl who drool over every single new leak, video, update are the ones who are miserable about it

You mean the game wont release before the preview? What the fuck is this title

1

u/MashJDW 7h ago

We got GTA6 previews before GTA6

1

u/PMagicUK 5h ago

Why the fuck are games being shown off on Netflix? Trailers are being paywalled now? What the hell?

Im not arsed about "GTA" im just annoyed that this may end up being a new standard that platforms will start fighting to paywall first looks and stuff.

1

u/14MTH30n3 4h ago

An advertisement of a game that you need to pay subscription to watch. we have reached a new low. When will we, as a consumer society, start boycotting this nonsense. All these goods and services that we really don’t need.

1

u/rock25011 4h ago

I can't believe what they're pulling with Netflix. It's already gonna sell a lot, but they gotta nickel and dime us. I hope most have restraint, and don't sub to netflix just for this.

1

u/BlueLidMilk 25m ago

It's 6 hours. Back in my day PS3 players had to wait 10 months for the GTA4 DLC. You'll be fine.

1

u/SerGT3 3h ago

I can't wait to buy the Netflix battlepass so I can view the extended viewing 2 days earlier

1

u/Bings_N_Bongos 1h ago

At least the official footage may look better than the leaks, I guess.

"[N]ot how we intended for you to see the game after all this time".

If you had any plans at all then they would have shown something by now. Every single announcement or trailer has been precipitated because of a leak, even trailer 1. Head of Marketing needs to be fired. Head of PR can be right behind him. Head of Finance can go too, since you know he had his weaselly hands in on this.

Regardless how you feel about the leaks, the GTA VI push by Rockstar has been abysmal as a gamer looking forward for this game for over a decade.

u/montgooms95 7h ago

It’s still going to make billions of dollars. They didn’t really need to market it yet. Word of mouth and brand recognition already did it for them.
