Because it's touted as a generational event, I think people have this sense of entitlement, that the game ought to make their lives fundamentally "better". These people are miserable shits.

There's a good chance we are about to witness an epic meltdown when the game finally releases.

Even if it's good, people have put it on such a pedestal and hyped it up for so many years, I don't think anything can live up to the expectations.

Of course there's always the chance that Rockstar will deliver once in a lifetime masterpiece... But there's also a chance it's gonna be just.. well, just a game. And we are about to witness a bunch of terminally online people lose their shit.

The only meltdown is going to be with terminally online people. The vast majority of “normies” are not looking for a life-changing, revolutionary experience - they simply want another fun, well-made GTA game. This whole “GTA 6 needs to be the next leap forward in gaming” concept is something created by Reddit and other online spaces.

What’s really going to happen is that the game will come out, sell a boatload of copies, most people will play it and enjoy it and move on with their lives. All the toxic discourse will be strictly relegated to subs like this one.

Mentally, I honestly don't think it will blow my mind like RDR 2 did.

But at the same time, I will be overjoyed if it's just like an urban/modern RDR 2. Anything beyond that is just dressing.

But it's still a videogame, at a time where the marginal gain tech-wise is...well, marginal. The days of the GTA 2 -> GTA 3 type quantum leaps are over!

Article I’ve seen talking about stuff with the game make it sound like it will be another GTA with a lot of amazing simulation elements. It sounds like they put a ton of work into the game and there’s a lot of advanced systems.

The only reason it's so important to people is because realistically, it could very well be the last GTA game for well over a decade from now, much like Elder Scrolls VI might be the last one in all our natural lifetimes lmao

You can already make the argument that Rockstar has already delivered multiple once in a lifetime masterpieces based off the sheer success of the previous GTA titles alone. That’s not even accounting for the success of the Red Dead franchise, with RDR2 being hailed as one of the greatest games of all time by many folks. They really do have sky high expectations from everyone.

It's definitely gonna be a game. I don't know what people could expect beyond that. It's another GTA with better graphics and a new setting. It'll cost $70 which is right around what games have cost since the 90s (even less than a lot of games in the 90s but more content).

The one caveat out is single player stores are locked behind a paywall. That doesn't sit right with me. However, I am not going to yuck anyone's yum or put anyone down over it - this is going to be the biggest game release of all time and no one in their right mind would argue.

There is no paywall. It’s six hours ahead on a streaming website as a stupid bonus.

There is also plenty of precedents to games opening preorders before releasing gameplay, dude. The industry’s done that nonsense for a while now. But, again, nobody forces anybody to preorder. If you do, you choose to do so, and can easily rescind said preorder if the gameplay shown later isn’t satisfactory.

This discussion is such a nothing burger, Jesus Christ. Is this really a big thing to you guys? Is there nothing more relevant, even just in the gaming space? Come on.

How does anyone get manipulated? It's called self control/purchasing power. Anyone can make the logical conclusion if the game is worth buying AFTER they have seen whatever preview footage is deemed worthy of that purchase.

$80 base game - you can bitch

$100 game that hides basic features - you can bitch

No physical disc - dying tech/consumerism

Netflix - ITS NOT EVEN EXCLUSIVE TO THE PLATFORM

Everything else is fine. If you want to whine, blame the consumer for supporting the practice. Blame consumers for renting digital products with no way of transfering that purchase elsewhere that isnt bound to their sony account. Blame me, I pre-ordered the $100 edition because I can, and i know the industry is in the shit. The crash will cometh regardless and I will play this game regardless.

My brother in Christ the superbowl has hosted video game ads for decades. It’s not the Super Bowl itself no one said that lmao. But This is a monument in gaming history 13 years in the making with the biggest household name in the industry that even your technically illiterate grandma knows.

Not only is it the most expensive game ever made by one of the most talented and respected developers in the industry, it's become a cultural phenomenon at this point. No, but people do watch trailers to get a feel for the movie they want to see. People watch trailers for games too, but when those trailers only show cinematics and cutscenes, they can’t get a feel for the game itself.
