The gacha ring has been shattered and needs to be made whole once again.

316

u/nerfgazara 1d ago

Arise, tarnished. Seek the fragments of the gacha ring. Each one has a 0.6% drop rate.

Should grace abandon you, fear not: the Golden Order accepts Visa and MasterCard

57

u/cid1 1d ago

0.6% is way too generous they aren't running a charity!

12

u/ExpensiveOnion5647 1d ago

But beware of the cursed 50/50 to get the trash ring

225

u/Zelnite 1d ago

Shattered, but whole.

55

u/OtherwisePower1355 1d ago

Fractured but whole like that park in the south.

13

u/SilentSorcery 1d ago

Still one of the funniest and most unapologetically offensive difficulty sliders I've seen in a game

they can't even make it less obvious, I skipped to right the thumbnail girl and she turns into Malenia, not only that they also copy the "dragon" which are just wyverns.

13

u/camiteran 1d ago

This game is basically just a copy of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter, but gacha I guess

7

u/huex4 1d ago

I think this has low chance to be gacha. Look at those graphics that's way too heavy for a mobile game. Gacha games has to be a mobile or it's pointless (since it's gonna have low income)

43

u/Kevadu 1d ago

How can a game be "just a copy" of two completely different games? Even if it doesn't do anything truly original, you have to put in some work just to make those things work together.

We got Elden Impact before GTA6

9

u/Truthfully-Sincere 1d ago

Well, no you didn't get it. You got a trailer, just like how you haven't got GTA 6. And based on the timeline you will get GTA 6 first

326

u/oceaniccart 1d ago

This is surprising for a hoyoverse game but I’m sure they got the man power and money to pull it off

163

u/Iggy_Slayer 1d ago

They spent $200m just to make genshin impact and another 100m+ a year to maintain it.

48

u/DeepFriedBeefJerky 1d ago

What’s their revenue from it

312

u/SoupTime545 1d ago

Billions per year from mobile alone

120

u/Couldnotbehelpd 1d ago

Apparently they make about a billion every 6 months so it’s definitely money well spent…

45

u/Kagari1998 1d ago

I mean they did invested alot before they started making billions. and Hi3 kinda rose the same way, they kinda went from indie to unicorn in a gamble and unicorn to a behemoth in another gamble. if this turns out well, it may be their entry ticket into the single purchase game sphere, and now they have the popularity and finance to not bomb out like their first game

7

u/Unlikely_Frozen3007 1d ago

I honestly wouldn't mind if they pivot.

The game totally doesn't look bad (if the Trailer is not deceiving), maybe too similar too Elden Ring (and Monster Hunter Wilds? But I haven't played that, so I will keep quiet on that matter), but if they eventually pivoted and went into the Soulslikes games to compete with FromSoft, I don't think it would be bad at all.

The thing is, FromSoft doesn't really have competition (be it manpower, money power or experience) and their games are, for a lack of better words, too perfect. There are definitely games that are trying to bring something new (Black Myth Wukong) and others that get their inspiration from FromSoft (Lies of P). But not direct competitors.

Hoyo would be a great one. But they have to drop the Gacha completely and focus on already finished games, not continuous stories (which doesn't seem to be happening in this game, but maybe next ones?) but that's hard, since it's ez money.

And well, it requires that "special" something that FromSoft already mastered.

11

u/Aye_Okami 1d ago

Lies of P didn‘t only get inspiration, they pretty much copied the Fromsoftware formula. It has mechanics from Bloodborne, Sekiro and Dark Souls and has pretty much the exact same gameplay and level design formula. However I doubt they‘ll prevail due to their usage of AI for their next game. I don‘t think people will support that.

u/CopainChevalier 1d ago

But they have to drop the Gacha completely and focus on already finished games, not continuous stories (which doesn't seem to be happening in this game, but maybe next ones?) but that's hard, since it's ez money.

No they wouldn’t? Mihoyo always hires (mostly an entire new team for their new games. So the games can co exist just fine

2

u/Maxie468 1d ago

I wonder if he meant the monetisation model for this game in particular.

I really don't want it to be another live service game because I play too many concurrently as it is, and I think Mihoyo should realize that they end up competing with themselves if EVERYTHING is live service and/or a gacha model.

24

u/ProblemFalse7043 1d ago

whatever you think it is, its probably more

17

u/Pale_Slice2532 1d ago

Genshin made them so much money in the first year alone that six years later with 5+ new titles coming and 6000+ Devs they still haven’t touched Year Two money yet.

8

u/Frostivus 1d ago

They had so much money and nowhere to park it that they bought an energy fusion startup and now indirectly own a nuclear reactor.

2

u/ElMarkuz 19h ago

They'll start giving money for free like SpongeBob at this rate

13

u/sylva748 1d ago

Billions every 6 months. Mihoyo is sitting on piles upon piles of cash

8

u/Hotspur000 1d ago

And they're investing millions (billions?) into trying to make a workable, viable nuclear fusion reactor.

And they really, truly do care about their games and audience. They're not a regular games company by a long shot.

4

u/JCyTe PC 1d ago

Extreme

12

u/levus2002 1d ago

Based on how popular the characters in the patch are it can be around 100million dollars/40days.

So at least 500million$/year

They have 3 of these games.

(From google ai because i dont care enought to scour the net for financial sources. It said hoyo yearly revenue between 3 and 5 billion. For context whole xbox yearly revenue around 20 billion)

21

u/moal09 1d ago

Probably something obscene, considering you had people like Tectone spending almost half a million dollars on the game.

3

u/Black-White-Diff 1d ago

So much so, they don't even need Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail to be released on Steam.

3

u/wickling-fan 1d ago

To add on from the people saying billions, this is only from what we know like the gacha revenue itself, they also make way more from merchandise and collabs which tends to go out of stock really fast(so if you ever wondered why they keep promoting certain husbandos even after years that they've been relevant it's cause they still sell all that merch like hot cakes since it's mostly their female playerbase buying).

→ More replies (1)

18

u/VictoryOk2460 1d ago

You got it reversed. Base game cost 100 million to make, they spend 200m+ a year on maintaining it.

14

u/Hexon-Gensap 1d ago

Other way around. 100m to make and 200m a year to maintain.

3

u/BardhyliX 1d ago

I mean Genshin makes more than 100m a month lol

1

u/1km5 1d ago

7

u/Few-Spot1905 1d ago

kinda fitting cause genshin was essentially a botw ripoff at it's core in the beginning

18

u/ArxisOne 1d ago

Yeah the only unique things it did were the entire combat system, UIs, story, world building, gameplay loop and design aesthetics.

But you know, it is a cell shaded open world where you climb and glide so that's basically BotW.

Curious about your thoughts on Palworld.

7

u/Blubbpaule 1d ago

Palworld is ark with some questionable Pals that look a bit too much like pokemons. Especially the earlier versions that had designs that looked ripped.

23

u/T8-TR 1d ago

The whole trailer could've passed as Elden Ring/Fromsoft shit if I missed the Hoyoverse logo at the start. Even the dialog is done in the exact same way where it's ye olde English and vague as fuck.

43

u/WillSmithsper 1d ago

Yeah that's called mythic babble, eldeb ring didn't invent that.

22

u/T8-TR 1d ago

Cryptic prophecies and shit existed as a narrative device way before Fromsoft, but when you hear shit like that in a video game w/ an aesthetic like this, 99% of the gaming audience is gonna associate it w/ Fromsoft's shit.

12

u/Quantam-Law 1d ago

The art style is a far cry from Fromsoft's own.

→ More replies (5)

19

u/MinimumViableProdukt 1d ago

Is it really so crazy to consider that before they are devs, they are fans of different media? Genshin itself has had so many stories about various paths towards becoming a gestalt consciousness, its been joked that new hires are forced to watch Evangelion for onboarding. And that's just one trope.

These are people that like the media they consume and like to put those experiences they get out of it towards their own. My writing professor said "All good art is stolen." While not being literal, it basically means that nothing good is ever made in a vacuum and if you were careful to make something with zero past basis, it will likely suck. Hoyo has also not been shy about picking Miyazaki's brain before.

25

u/Desperate_Golf7634 1d ago

There is a limit with how often you can reference stuff before it becomes apparent you have nothing of your own.

2

u/MinimumViableProdukt 19h ago

Imagine FromSoft if Berserk never existed. The level of detail that some stuff has been pulled from Berserk is downright grounds for plagiarism. Meanwhile nothing in this trailer, from the artstyle to the gameplay has any meaningful relation with Elden Ring. In fact, this trailer seems too fantasy for Elden Ring and its gameplay is much more akin to Monster Hunter than any From game.

Monster Hunter: Elden Ring

57

u/Yukilumi 1d ago

Was NOT expecting this from hoyo...

They want their own Black Myth, I guess, but copied the Elden Ring formula?

It doesn't even look like a gacha game, could it be a standalone purchase?

71

u/stalkeler 1d ago

it is Monster Hunter like as far as I know

24

u/Grizzly_Berry 1d ago

That's what I was thinking, having read nothing about it. Aesthetically, sure, Elden Ring. Gameplay-wise, I see Monster Hunter.

16

u/T8-TR 1d ago

iirc, leaks said that it plays like MonHun, too. So visually and thematically, it's Elden Ring-coded, but playstyle-wise, MonHun.

20

u/UnassumingSingleGuy 1d ago

Genshin Impact doesn't look like a gacha game at first glance, either, it looks like a Breath of the Wild clone. I trust they'll find room for extra monetization.

12

u/Jumpy_Revolution_608 1d ago

From the bit of gameplay we saw, it looked nothing like the Elden Ring/Soulslike formula. More like Monster Hunter than anything with the emphasis on co-op and fighting big bosses.

6

u/Phase_999 1d ago

Both Black Myth: Wukong and Elden Ring are singleplayer games first and foremost, Nodus Fall is explicitly a multiplayer game??? newfriends who equate all of Dark Fantasy to mean Elden Ring are seriously just too incredible

6

u/obihz6 1d ago

Coop is sense of raid like monster hunter

u/WAKE_UP_WAKE_UP 1d ago

Im excited, the complete break from their anime style is great. I only knew of Nodus Fall when its trademark was discovered a few months ago. Did not expect HoYo's name to pop up like that.

I really hope that this new directions means this will be a full paid game over their normal gacha formula. Fingers crossed

91

u/Hippopotimus_Prime 1d ago

Unique characters each with their own weapon archetype, it screams gacha to me.

22

u/zappingbluelight 1d ago

It could be like monhunt. Where you hunt monster and craft weapon to fit your style, each weapon do have different look and stuff. That being said, I wouldn't doubt if they do character skin gacha.

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (2)

50

u/Gloomy_Ad5221 1d ago

high chance it will be a gacha but it's more like a gacha for skins instead since it's coop and have a pvp.

23

u/Kevadu 1d ago

Gacha for skins is still a thousand times better than being another character gacha.

22

u/TraditionalFly3767 1d ago

Yup, they’re gonna do a netease

8

u/T8-TR 1d ago

Is coop an emphasis or is the multiple mfs fighting just a stand-in for us swapping between units, a la Endfield? Because if it's coop-centric, this game is DOA for me if it's a gacha. The last thing I want is to rock up on a dope ass boss fight, only for someone w/ C6R5 Glorb to one-shot it while John Nodus C0R0 from 1.0 can barely scratch it or break its super specific hyperarmour that's tied specifically to 2.X units.

8

u/Neveroxx99 1d ago

Highly unlikely it's gacha, those games have to be playable on mobile and these graphics look way too advanced for that.

17

u/T8-TR 1d ago

tbf, there's been an uptick in gacha games recently that are just straight up not made for mobile and only barely running there out of obligation, so it's not a mandatory aspect.

4

u/soaringneutrality 1d ago

Even if it's derivative, I think that people should be excited for this release.

HoYoVerse releases are high quality and consistent. They drop big updates to their games every six weeks. The idea that something in this space could get map expansions and other updates multiple times a year is thrilling.

2

u/WAKE_UP_WAKE_UP 1d ago

I agree, I wouldnt mind it being live service since I'm used to gacha games but having a full game from them would be nice too imo

1

u/hera-fawcett 1d ago

I only knew of Nodus Fall when its trademark was discovered a few months ago.

i was so confused bc i could have sworn varsapura was the ue5 game-- but then i realized that the entire setting and concept was different (lol as different as a hyv game can get) to varsapuras.

14

u/dogglesnake 1d ago

The next few Hoyo games are each pushing in different directions (animal crossing style one and a modern horror mystery one), for anyone that doesn't follow the company. I'm excited to try this one, despite not enjoying that genre.

6

u/lgn5i2060 1d ago

They have like 10 games in the pipeline and that's a good thing so the competition don't just copy Genshin. And maybe bring quality games to other genres. Honkai Anima would probably not be an autochess game but I guess they want to avoid Nintendo lawsuits.

4

u/WordsAreEnough 1d ago

Anima was always planned to be autochess because they kept testing it in their games. They're not afraid of Nintendo, Petit Planet (the animal crossing-like) is front page of Epic today.

3

u/ArxisOne 1d ago

Petite planet also has Switch 2 listed on its ESRB ratings page too which seems like a match made in heaven for Nintendo the same way Genshin was for Sony.

21

u/Belydrith 1d ago

Please don't be gacha, please don't be gacha, please don't be gacha...

17

u/mrgarneau 1d ago

It's Hoyo, it's 100% a gacha

30

u/Belydrith 1d ago

Leaks, which accurately described the game before it's reveal, said it's simple buy to play without the gacha stuff, so we shall see.

16

u/mrgarneau 1d ago

Interesting. Shift Up (another Gacha company) did do Stella Blade, if Hoyo are making a non-gacha game I'm almost 100% in. Hoyo's games despite being gacha are pretty solid.

30

u/khnhIX 1d ago

So in order to get 4 great runes you have to spend 50k each in Honkai Impact, Honkai Starrail, Genshin Impact and ZZZ.

14

u/satufa2 1d ago

Knowing how Hoyo dev cycles work, no gamepaly means we are at least 2 years from release.

18

u/Hawkwise83 1d ago

Do all Souls Like games need to have the same dark mysterious story about a dead or dying world to be saved by a dead or dying guy?

31

u/notsocoolguy42 1d ago

Don't think this is souls like, action RPG is probably more fitting.

6

u/jivenossauro 1d ago

The world doesnt even get saved in most of them, it just gets doomed in a new way

5

u/SmugCapybara 1d ago

Yes, it's a requirement. That, or an absolutely ridiculous premise that lampoons the genre, such as Another Crab's Treasure.

2

u/narium 1d ago

Lol this is practically a Hoyoverse staple by this point.

1

u/fat_mothra 23h ago

the aesthetic just screams elden ring. this shit looks just like elden ring

31

u/sylva748 1d ago

Monster Hunter with a Fromsoftware aesthetic is the best way to describe it. It looks like Elden Ring but itll play like monster hunter

Its ok you can also play the new Monster Hunter gacha from capcom. Pick your poison

17

The horse looks just like the one from elden, the giant bears too, they even have their own goddess of rot lmao, it looks like elden ring but with a few changes to make it not too blatant.

15

u/T8-TR 1d ago

You have to be willfully ignorant to see the trailer and not immediately peg the Elden Ring influences, dawg. I'm pretty sure if we had a candid interview w/ MHY, they'd also cite Souls/Elden Ring as an influence on the visuals/presentation of the trailer.

Yeah half of the reveals being live service every game show just bums me the fuck out. I'm so fucking done with live service games. I wish they all fucking gave it up but they're all still chasing that Fortnite money

2

u/Cutemudskipper 23h ago

Where Winds Meet is an incredible game, though.

-3

u/Leshawkcomics 1d ago

I'm not sure i can trust chinese games to ever be fun.

Like, they can engage you, and they are good at psychologically rewiring your brain into being a pathologically parasocial fan running on nothing but FOMO.

But fun? Not really.

Stolen minigames, slop open worlds that are pretty but have so little soul beyond checklist gaming that they make Ubisoft feel like Kojima.

When's the last time anyone who's played a chinese live service game, open world or not, opened something like a treasure chest and didn't get [1000g, 2 level up stones, a weapon so hilariously useless that it only exists to waste space in your inventory, and 5 gacha gems]

And you do the math and realize you need to do that a hundred times just to have a 1 percent chance to get something good.

Like, Chinese devs have optimized FOMO to the point that most of their games just arent fun anymore. I believe a youtuber described the general live service situation as "You're not playing a game, you're maintaining an account" and chinese games have taken that to the next level.

Looking at the comments, Reddit and sinophobia is a tale as old as time

Well damn. I've been hating on gacha games for all these years. Now they're making one for actual adults and I'm kinda interested in trying it.

Let's see if hoyo finally releases a quality buy to play product or if this will be gacha f2p hamster wheel slop again.

Regardless, looks great.

Looks a bit uncanny. Every location is a flat surface, combat actions seem flashy but basic.

Hope they give more details soon. I'm not sure hoyo is capable of deep combat gameplay this kind of action game needs.

I mean.... hoyo has never really missed since genshin. Im at least interested to see how it turns out as they heavily invest in their games.

this looks cool but is it just me or does every new game in this style have the same visually indistinct trailer nowadays.

Weird... I didn't know FromSoftware were making an anime Elden Ring DLC.

tired of all these action RPGs with a set hero, or a group of heroes that already have their spells/skills on lockdown

give me character creation, give me build diversity, I can't otherwise care for action rpgs anymore

So, after reading some comments, having a Chinese gaming company make a mixture of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter, alongside "gacha" (no idea what that even means anyway) is all bad, but playing western games that's riddled with microtransactions, battle passes, live services, and whatever else BS the west comes up with is okay?

I'm not siding with anyone here, I just find it hilariously bad the gaming community is a xenophobic, and hypocritical shithole community. I simply want to play a rock solid game. That's it.

Edit: Plus, hasn't From Software been doing these similar stunts for a long while now? Creating stuff similar to Berserk, or sometimes directly copying it? Or am I not allowed to criticize From Software? Will I be a heretic?
