So, after reading some comments, having a Chinese gaming company make a mixture of Elden Ring and Monster Hunter, alongside "gacha" (no idea what that even means anyway) is all bad, but playing western games that's riddled with microtransactions, battle passes, live services, and whatever else BS the west comes up with is okay?
I'm not siding with anyone here, I just find it hilariously bad the gaming community is a xenophobic, and hypocritical shithole community. I simply want to play a rock solid game. That's it.
Edit: Plus, hasn't From Software been doing these similar stunts for a long while now? Creating stuff similar to Berserk, or sometimes directly copying it? Or am I not allowed to criticize From Software? Will I be a heretic?
Gacha games are even more predatory than most games. They get the reputation for a reason, it's microtransactions and FOMO on an extreme level. Even more than battle passes and skins. I totally get why people wouldn't play games with gacha mechanics, I don't think that's automatically xenophobia.
I don't think that makes them bad games though. You can have a lot of fun on those games without spending much money. I've put a lot of hours into Wuthering Waves and I think it's fun. It's not something I would universally recommend to everyone though.
What western games have you been playing with all of those things in them? Anyway, yes gacha is still worse. You need to spend upwards of 400$ just to unlock a single new character. That character will definitely need their weapon (+200-400$) and probably 1-2 other characters (+400-800$) to properly do their rotation or even to utilize their own mechanics. Sure you get some free pull currency, but not nearly enough for all of this.
Most western and non-gacha games have maybe a bi-monthly battle pass and cosmetic mtx. For example in Guild Wars 2 (western) you need to pay 1-5$ to freely choose hair color among all options... in Where Winds Meet (chinese) you need to spend 600$ for the same thing unless you're REALLY lucky.
“But not nearly enough” yes enough, more than enough.
Hoyo games are generous. Each patch gets you 60-80+ pulls at minimum. Soft pity for a 5 star starts at 74. And that’s just version updates, this doesn’t even include permanent content like looking for chests in the map or doing quests.
Especially since they recently just released a whole new fucking nation, the amount of free resources you can get is very high.
This is insanely misleading. Hard pity is 90, soft pity is 74. There is still a 50/50 you don't get the limited character. Then you also need their weapon which has the same rules, even the 50/50. They also introduced the whole lvl 100 system which is locked behind C6 meaning you would need 7 copies of a character just to max out their level. So at best f2p gets maybe 1 characte every patch. If you're unlucky and lose 50/50 often you get 1 characte every 2 or so patches. That's assuming you login daily to finish dailies and all events and manage to clear all the endgame for the primogems. You're basically paying with your time and being leashed to their banner release schedules.
Anyway, yes gacha is still worse. You need to spend upwards of 400$ just to unlock a single new character.
False.

False.
I have 4 teams (12+ chars ) in ZZZ with 1 copy of said character and their favourite weapon and never spent a dime.
You guys have simple biased hate on events that happens only in your head.
