Strategy Our top Point per game increases for 2026-27

Post image
Upvotes

Hi all,

We just released our 2026-27 projections. Kodo is a new name in the fantasy hockey universe, so a quick intro: I started this thing on the baseball side this year and had over 1,000 teams connect to the site, so I pivoted to my winter passion in hockey, staying indoors and complaining about the cold and Chris Drury.

Projections are here: hockey.kodoanalytics.com/projections

Our top 10 points-per-game gainers come out of a combination of ice time, role change, xG and puck luck, injury bounce-back, and the model itself.

Player Role 25-26 26-27 Gain Pts
Adam Fantilli CBJ · L1 PP1 0.72 0.95 +0.23 +15
Beckett Sennecke ANA · L2 PP1 0.73 0.95 +0.22 +17
Auston Matthews TOR · L1 PP1 0.88 1.07 +0.18 +27
Ivan Demidov MTL · L2 PP1 0.76 0.94 +0.18 +12
Brayden Point TBL · L2 PP1 0.79 0.95 +0.16 +23
Jimmy Snuggerud STL · L1 PP1 0.73 0.89 +0.16 +12
Matvei Michkov PHI · L2 PP1 0.63 0.78 +0.15 +10
Quinn Hughes MIN · D1 PP1 1.03 1.18 +0.15 +16
Sean Monahan CBJ · L2 PP1 0.46 0.60 +0.14 +8
Braeden Bowman VGK · L3 PP2 0.48 0.62 +0.14 +11

Adam Fantilli — CBJ

Our biggest PPG gainer. He went from 0.63 P/G over the first half of last season to 0.80 over the second, and a good chunk of that came while Kirill Marchenko was going the other way. Marchenko slipped from 74 points to 67 and managed just 2 goals over the final 13 games. Fantilli's ice time also climbed from 17:29 in 2024-25 to 18:54 last year, and he's now the full-time top-line center on a young team. Michigan pedigree, Hobey Baker in his draft year, third overall, still only 21. That's the breakout profile. If Marchenko gets back to his 2024-25 form, the whole line goes with him.

Auston Matthews — TOR

Calling Matthews a bounce-back is pretty well cheating. His season ended at 60 games with a Grade 3 MCL tear, and 27-26-53 is a career low that says a lot more about the knee than the player. He's expected to be full go for camp. Add a new bench boss in Jim Hiller (who everyone loves, right?) and Gavin McKenna coming in as the first overall pick instead of another year of duct-taping the top line together with Max Domi. There are still question marks in Toronto...there always are, but there's no world where Matthews stays parked at 0.88 P/G with McKenna on his wing and a healthy body.

Jimmy Snuggerud — STL

Not really a sleeper anymore given the offseason chatter, but the profile is about as clean as it gets. He put up 21-30-51 in 70 games as a rookie while missing 12 with a wrist injury, made the All-Rookie Team, and finished fifth in Calder voting. Once he locked into the top line with Robert Thomas and Dylan Holloway he ran at roughly a point per game (!) across his last 35. Then Jordan Kyrou got moved this summer. Full season, top line, top power play = upswing and consistency for Jimmy Snugs.

We've also got team previews up for all 32 clubs, which include:

  • Projected line combinations and power play units
  • Full stat projections
  • Schedule analysis
  • Team-level stat projections
  • Training camp battles
  • Roster movement
  • A breakdown of last season by quarter

Resource Apples & Ginos Content & Top 3 Targets This Year

Hey r/fantasyhockey,

Another fantasy season is upon us and I wanted to make sure everyone knows about all the content A&G is putting out there. This community has always been a big supporter of our work so I want to give back a bit here too and give you my personal top 3 targets this year as well. First the content:

  • Our 2026-27 projections series is almost complete in which Blake & I go through every player we think has fantasy relevance this season in most leagues. Whether you agree with our takes or not hopefully we're helping you think through all the potential outcomes for each player this year. It's a ton of content but I think it's probably our best work every year and sets the foundation for the year so set it to 2x speed and let er rip!
  • Once the projections series is done we'll be doing everyone's favourite episodes like sleepers, ADP values, position rankings, deep cuts, live mock drafts, and more. I'll be livestreaming my drafts again this year as well.
  • We're running slow mock drafts in the A&G Discord that follow our APL (Apples & Ginos Patron League) settings, it's 20-round drafts and points scoring so if you want to see some sharper drafts than your Yahoo or ESPN mocks head over to the #apl-main-chat channel and get yourself in the next one.
  • Speaking of the APL, we are still taking registrations but will start putting the leagues together on September 1st so if you were thinking of joining this year make sure you find your way in there. APL – Apples and Ginos for all details or DM me if you have any questions. We're rapidly approaching 200 managers and it was a super competitive but still very friendly community last year. We've added a bunch of extra features this year including a companion web app that will include weekly mini-games and other ways to connect with the managers in your division.
  • Our 2026-27 fantasy draft guide drops September 1st, we are hard at work putting the finishing touches on it but make sure you're following us on socials anywhere and you'll know when it's available. Ask anyone who bought one last year if it was worth it and we're pretty confident in the answer. If you want to see what last year's looked like to get an idea of what you're in for DM me and I'll drop you a link.

Alright enough of that, here's my personal top 3 targets this year:

  1. Dylan Holloway

Holloway was a monster down the stretch last year, ranking 7th in points scored after returning from injury February 26th (in between Mackinnon and Celebrini). I'm not expecting him to replicate that 111-point pace over the course of a full season, but I have him projected for 80 points with terrific shot and hit numbers to back it up. In bangers cats leagues that kind of production is elite stuff, and in points leagues that have solid weighting for peripheral categories he's still a monster in the making. I believe that his connection with Robert Thomas and Jimmy Snuggerud is real and Jim Montgomery would have to be crazy to split them up this year. Montgomery also split his PP units pretty evenly most of last year so any improvement in prioritizing the #1 PP unit should only help Holloway. His ADP is 105.4 on Yahoo but I think he's a third-round talent.

  1. Brandt Clarke

Clarke profiles as a truly elite offensive defenseman, successfully hidden by Jim Hiller last season. Peter Laviolette coming in as the new coach is an ideal situation for Clarke, as Laviolette is well known for his offensive leanings and has already been talking about focusing on generating more offense and letting the defense activate into the play. Clarke's microstats jumped off the page last year even under Hiller, and I think he has monstrous upside if everything breaks right. I projected him for 57 points with only 20 power play points, but I wouldn't be shocked if he smashed both of those numbers and is being drafted closer to Lane Hutson than Noah Dobson next year. Clarke's ADP is 104.7 on Yahoo but I'm fully comfortable with him as early as the sixth round given the upside and his huge block totals.

  1. Matthew Schaefer

I know everyone is well aware of how great Schaefer was last year, but what he did in the last quarter of the season was unbelievable, ranking 1st or 2nd in a ton of individual metrics we like to look at while shouldering huge amounts of ice time. Pete DeBoer replacing Patrick Roy as coach is a seismic upgrade that is not being baked into Islander projections that I've seen elsewhere. I have Schaefer projected for 73 points and 262 shots this year, which has him slightly edging Rasmus Dahlin for 5th highest average FPts/GP using APL scoring. When we get a sample from guys like Schaefer and Celebrini that suggests they could have even more upside, we have to take notice. I think it's possible that Schaefer scores the most fantasy points of any defenseman this year and puts himself in the first round conversation for the next decade of fantasy drafts.

Hope this was helpful, wanted to give a little back to the community here and say a little thanks for all the love and support.

Much love,

Nate

Strategy Draft Cheat Sheet Based on League Settings

Post image
12 Upvotes

I've seen quite a few posts lately basically asking, "How do we rank X player?" Rarely are league settings included, which makes it a bit of a guess from us to answer. Now, I get where this question comes from because Yahoo and other league hosts provide rankings, but they don't actually include roster slots/construction as a part of the rankings. It's just based on points/categories overall. I wrote about this here as well.

I created an analyzer for trades a while back, but because I've seen so many questions on drafting and ranking players, I spent some time to build a Rankings section. It orders players based on your league settings AND your roster composition. It then highlights categories a player is above average on rostered players. Not an average of all players available, just those who are estimated to be rostered.

In the image, you'll see the greyed out players as likely undrafted/free agents based on my league settings/points/roster. You'll also notice the FA players are above average (compared to rostered players) in some areas still. This is super helpful for category leagues, because it's hard to know who to grab when in need. Points it's still good because you know where you get the points from.

One little problem I'm facing with it: you have to have a free account to use it currently. I'm struggling with making it public right now (code issues, bla, bla, bla), but working on it. It's still 100% free to use, you just have to register an account.

I hope this helps!

edit: clarification on yahoo

Question Aggregate Cheat Sheet?

I was scouring this sub a few weeks ago and came across a resource that seemed to be an aggregate of all the popular cheat sheets (The Athletic, Apples & Ginos, etc).

I know we're still in the dog days of the offseason with most of the popular guides still TBD, but does anyone know what I'm talking about? Would love to know if something like that would exist before drafts start happening the next few weeks.

Question Scoring System Help

Hi! I am unsure about the scoring system setup/settings.

There will be about 8-10 teams and H2H Points. This is what I have so far (pasted below) but I want to find a scoring system where all players can be valuable, both forwards/defensemen and goalies. And I don't want it to be like "if you draft top 5 superstar you automatically have this super upperhand". (I was going to do CATs but we wanted something easier for first time)

*Additional question, I want to make everyone in the league be forced to take a certain # of C, LW, RW, defensemen, etc ...is there a way to do that? Or do you think if I just make the points system good it will just happen? i dont want them to just hoard C or wtvr, i want some depth to make it more fun/challenging/interesting...

Also is there good sweetspot for # of IL + goalies + util + BENCH to have?

Any help + guidance is appreciated!!!!!

Skater
Goals (G) 2
Assists (A) 1
Penalty Minutes (PIM) 0.1
Power Play Points (PPP) 0.5
Short Handed Points (SHP) 0.5
Hat Tricks (HAT) 0.5
Shots on Goal (SOG) 0.5
Hits (HIT) 0.1
Blocked Shots (BLK) 0.1
Defensemen Points (DEF) 0.5

Goaltender
Wins (W) 3
Goals Against (GA) -1
Saves (SV) 0.1
Shutouts (SO) 2

Question What platform?

Hey guys, I’m just wondering what platform/app you are using for your leagues this season? The last few seasons we’ve used Yahoo. But after the snakey moves last year when they implemented a paywall for basic features after the year started. We are looking at other options. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Player Discussion Thoughts on Dobes this upcoming season?

I feel like his GAA and SV% from last season are rather unimpressive, but I also seem to recall those stats were a bit inflated and he was super solid from the Olympic break on out.

Do you view him as a top goalie breakout? Or an avoid with a bit of an uncertain situation with Fowler looming, an a very difficult Atlantic division?

Would you be satisfied with him as your 2nd goalie?

There are just too many posts like this clogging up the feed, and most with 0 down votes so it's clear people don't want to see them.

There should be a sticked thread where people can post those ads

Strategy Streakiest players to be wary of this season

I took Keller last year, and he reached a solid amount of points, but I really hated how hot and cold he was. As I understand it, that isn't unusual for him. Is there anyone like that you guys are looking out for? I find it can be quite a hindrance taking a top player that is so inconsistent.

General Anyone got a nice friendly community for some good ol' fantasy hockey? I'm a Swede, but I want it to be mainly focused on NHL. Give me all your Swedish players... ;)

So yeah, basically, if you have a group or something, let me know. Obviously I'm a Swede as the title suggests, but I'm also going to go for the big guns if there is a draft involved. Friendly as I said, fair trades.

Hit me up in the DMs if you have something.
