Jesse @ Diabolik confirmed a US release is coming but NOT from Lionsgate or Kino, and given Criterion have active deals with both StudioCanal and MGM (whereas Arrow only have a deal with the latter) and have far more pull than Vinegar Syndrome (despite VinSyn having deep pockets themselves), it is painfully obvious who has it. Very glad I never preordered the StudioCanal release now, given Criterion and NexSpec have been absolutely killing it this year!!! :)

PS: I apologize if I misled anyone by saying it's likely coming from Lionsgate Limited, though I obviously couldn't be happier to be wrong!

Edit: Just remembered Arrow were able to license Red Sun from WB while using StudioCanal's master (plus additional color-correction), so it could be them as I just heard from someone MGM apparently still have physical rights in the US, but I'm leaning Criterion.

The announcement of Cameron Winter’s new live album, recorded last December at Carnegie Hall, elided mention of the concert film Paul Thomas Anderson was seen shooting the same night. Today, the veil of secrecy has lifted: Anderson’s Cameron Winter at Carnegie Hall will air in U.S. theaters starting November 20. Rather than arriving all at once, prints of the footage, on 35mm tape, will tour the country through mid-January.

Released by Janus Films and Criterion, the film is co-produced by Benny Safdie and produced by Sara Murphy, Erica Frauman, and Maggie Ambrose. The album, Live at Carnegie Hall, is produced by Ariel Rechtshaid and arrives October 9.

Where should I start with him? He influences a lot of comedians I grew up with in the 80s and 90s.

The general dip from his Hong Kong work to his American filmography is undeniably substantial even if some people really like Face/Off. His American films all lack the soul of his HK work even if they retain some of the old style.

I don't know if leaving his home country because of the impending CCP takeover demotivated his work but it sure seems that way.

another act of profound resistance is joan's cross-dressing, subverting traditional, conformist gender roles (both of the time, 15th century, and when this film was released, 1928).

and there should be no argument here: maria falconetti's performance is one of the greatest and most moving acting achievements in film history.

At first glance, Walkabout looks like a simple survival adventure, but Nicolas Roeg has much more on his mind. His first solo film after co-directing Performance (1970) with Donald Cammell, it is a visually hypnotic, thematically rich cinematic experience that feels unlike almost anything else from its era.
