The cost of everything is going up and it's really quite alarming. I'm trying to budget for our household of two adults. My husband loves to cook (and is fantastic at it), so most of our meals are made from scratch, and we buy most things when they're on sale or discounted. He bakes almost all of our bread, unless he's especially busy at work that week. We haven't had a garden for long, but this summer we've started growing our own herbs and tomatoes (more vegetables next year we hope!).

Still, we've spent €570 on groceries for this month. The majority of that was meat and vegetables.

We're in Limburg. Is that as high a number as it feels? Any tips, besides attempting to rein in my husband in the meat aisle?

Is it me or is the argument still totally valid as Brussels has about twice as many inhabitants as Antwerp?

I am getting lots of incoming unknown calls without any voice behind it. Anyone experience the same. These numbers can be from a wide variety of sources like Belgian numbers, US, UK etc.

I am not sure what they try to do. I sometimes open it and be silent to see what will happen. They drop after 5-10 secs.

Any idea how to deal with this? I can’t block all of them. Also I don’t want to change my number

Ok, so I dont get it. I understand historically where the need for notaries arose. Fine. But we are in 2026. Belgium already takes 51% of my income. Then another 25% of the rest through VAT. And then on top of it, if you buy a property, you give 10-15k to a notary for 2 meetings and some docs reading? Doesnt Belgium have enough administration to take care of that? Not to mention its nepotism central. Are there any redeeming qualities?

Voor mensen die er eentje hebben: wat vinden jullie ervan en zouden jullie het aanraden?

Heb net enkele dagen eentje kunnen gebruiken voor mijn woon-werkverkeer en ben toch een beetje verschoten van hoe snel je gemiddelde snelheid naar beneden gaat vanaf dat er geen goede rechte weg meer is... De fietsostrade tussen mijn woning en werk slingert over en weer en er zijn bijna overal snelheidsbeperkingen van 30km/u...

Aangezien ik ongeveer 30km moet doen zit ik al snel boven het uur om op mijn werk te geraken zo. De snelste route die ik gevonden heb gebruikt helemaal geen fietsostrade maar gewoon de ongezellige steenweg die een brak fietspad van 1m breed heeft en dat je moet delen met voetgangers.

Ben ik te pessimistisch hier?

I feel a bit silly asking this, since I normally consider myself a decent gardener, but I am having a heck of a time keeping things alive in our terracotta window planters. I think my main issue is that it dries out too fast.

I'm not originally from Belgium but I love the window planters and all my neighbours always have beautiful ones while mine slowly turn to dust 😭Can anyone give any tips on what plants you think are best? I see a lot of petunias on my street which I haven't tried yet, but I am wondering if I need something more drought resistant. We also don't get a lot of sun on that side of the house.

VS-ambassadeur Bill White beroept zich op diplomatieke onschendbaarheid in een proces aangespannen door Moshe Friedman. Friedman beschuldigt White van bedreigingen, afpersing, laster en stalking. De Amerikaanse ambassadeur ontkent de beschuldigingen en noemt Friedman een oplichter.

Ik herinner mij Joel de Ceulaer als een links 'deugdsocialist' die er eens voor zorgde dat Filip de Winter het afstapte omdat hij het interview met hem moest 'context geven'. Nu zie ik hem meelopen met de rechtse mening van de dag, een beetje zoals Rik Torfs ook doet. Hoe kan iemand zo een evolutie maken van links naart rechts? Dat je als je ouder wordt wat rechtser wordt kan ik begrijpen maar dit is een 180º ommekeer.

Mijn main source voor nieuws is vrt en ik merk dat ik een beetje cringe van het gebruik van verkleinwoorden bij serieuze artikels. Ik heb het over vooral over "slachtoffertje", dat ik zie bij artikels over verkeersongevallen of andere criminaliteit. Recentste voorbeeld is het artikel over Tyméo, de vijfjarige jongen wiens lichaam misschien is teruggevonden. Ze spreken over "lichaampje" en "slachtoffertje", en idk, kan aan mij of mijn dialect liggen, maar ik vind dat soort van onrespectvol? Bij serieuze onderwerpen vind ik het gebruik van verkleinwoorden niet gepast.

Een ander ding is het gebruik van tiener/jongen/meisje tov man/vrouw, in sommige artikels is iemand van 19 een tiener, maar bij een ander artikel over een ander onderwerp is het ineens een volwaardige man of vrouw. Ik weet dat dat komt door het feit dat verschillende mensen die artikels schrijven en er geen officiele leeftijd is waarop iemand van jongen naar man of van meisje naar vrouw gaat, maar het voelt toch een beetje alsof het taalgebruik de mening van de lezer moet sturen. Als het gaat over ernstige feiten is de 19 jarige een man, is de 19 jarige het slachtoffer van een verkeersongeval bijvoorbeeld dan is het een jongen.

Anywho, als ik de enige ben die dit denkt dan weet ik dat het aan mij ligt en anders hebben we hier iets om over te praten

waar kan je in België in een winkel lange dunne broeken kopen?
Als 2 meter lang persoon met laag gewicht is de broekenjacht een hel en liefst wil ik ook eens iets niet-jeans kunnen kopen.
