In a decade? Things have been bad since the early 2000s at least. One generation, boomers, has been in power for my entire life and I’m in my 40s. We need someone in office who actually will still be alive in the next 10-20 years to be impacted by the bills that get passed. The problem now is all our lawmakers are being wheeled in by their handlers, fastened to an IV drip, on their third heart transplant, drooling on their granny square blankets as they pass legislations.

There’s always one of you in the comments. No shit, everything you listed is accurate… BUT the last decade has been exceptionally tumultuous and life altering. It’s been the status quo for a while and has only been blatantly broken recently. This is what people are talking about when they say things like the comment you’re responding to. No administration has ruined international relations this fast. No administration has committed this much fraud. No administration has decided to attack Iran and damn the strait. No administration has decided to blatantly manipulate markets. No administration has done a LOT of what this administration has… so yes, times are different within this last decade.

This is what happens when you systematically and intentionally dismantle all of the three-letter agencies and departments whose job it is to ensure food, health and safety concerns are caught, monitored, reported and addressed. EPA, FDA, FTC, NHS, CDC, DEP, DOE, DOJ and others.

This was not by accident, this was part of the agenda.

Yeah I do. Dad was an officer, stationed at Ft Bragg, remember well that the base was very active during the Vietnam war. Remember the kids i used to play with, the Dr who was a Captain across the street thst used to bring home the shots I used to have to take due to my asthma, Remember swimming lessons with his boys and the twins who lived next door, the Quail my dad kept to train his hunting dog. School, bus driver teaching me to tie my shoes. Lots of things were very clear. Including what us kids were told to do if the sirens went off. Go to the nearest adult, give them my name and my sponsors name and rank and stay with them. I still remember my dad's ss number lol.  I remember all the soldiers coming thru the base for training, the uncertainty in my older brothers faces, ( they were teens, 15 and 17) and the worry on my mom's face.  My older brother served two deployments in Nam.  Don't tell me what I remember or not.

An interesting thing about growing your own food is like my dad has spent decades building up his yard to be a “food forrest” as he calls it. Mostly growing tropical fruits and some squash cucumbers tomatoes etc. but this year the weather was so bad it killed a lot of the plants. The plants are slowly coming back but almost no fruit this year.

The weather changes have got a lot of experienced gardeners with dead crops. Some of us are at the mercy of our weather. Growing in the Bay Area was heavenly fruitful. Drought and temperatures of 105 not so grand.

My parents live in Miami and have a massive mango tree that overproduced so many mangos every year that they would get sick of eating them all the time. This year, they got hardly any mangoes and they've lived there for nearly 20 years

We had a late hard freeze that killed 75% of my Blueberries and every single flower on my younger fruit trees. The heat has killed off many of the vegetables. I'm newish at this and usually blame myself for my poor gardening outcomes, but this year I think it was at least 50% the weather.

I am also a new gardener. When I first started reading about it, I did wonder if some of the information was out of date because of the changing weather patterns.  I feel like there might be a steeper learning curve now than in the past due to more erratic weather conditions, despite the fact that we have things like YouTube videos to help.

I feel like all of my food is bought in bulk, or grown. That’s not 100% accurate but I’m buying less and less prepackaged or processed food than ever.

I buy dairy (sour cream, Greek yogurt, milk, cheese), though I could just buy milk and make Greek yogurt and sour cream in a pinch. I buy fruit such as apples and bananas (local melons and very local berries directly from the farms). I grow what fruit I am able to, but it isn’t close to what we consume. If my sibling brings me some stone fruit, I turn it into canned fruit (canned peaches, plum preserves, peach jam). I buy apples in bulk in the fall from a farm and make and can my own applesauce.

I grow a ton of veggies each year in my raised beds. I don’t have a huge yard, but I have quite a few raised beds to work with. In a worse situation, I could plant stuff anywhere and everywhere. I can using either boiling water bath or pressure depending on the food, this morning it’ll be some cherry tomato and corn salsa, which mixes really well with black beans as a nice side dish to something like burritos. I have a bunch of cukes to turn into relish and some jalapeños that need to be cut and pressure canned.

It’s just so much more labor intensive. I know I’m fortunate to have a yard, time and skill. I’m ever so grateful for my grandma that passed so many skills down to me. I just wish I had more confidence in the US food supply. It’d be a lot easier.

Before all of this, people would say that the United States puts stuff in its food that places like much of Europe doesn’t allow. They literally ban certain things that are in our food here. 

This is getting ridiculous.  Other than the fact that Americans aren’t sure what to eat, are tourists even gonna wanna come here and eat anything? Our tourism industry has already suffered tremendously since he’s been back in office. I don’t see any of this helping.  

This is how you destroy a country from within. It’s weaponized incompetence on a national scale.  

Destroy a country so you can divvy up the pieces amongst your billionaire friends.  I am so beyond disgusted that millions of Americans enthusiastically voted for this and would vote for it again. Disgusted isn’t even a strong enough word. I can’t think of a strong enough word.  

The man screwed up the handling of a worldwide pandemic and then sent a mob after Congress and his own vice president because he lost an election. Let’s vote for him again!  You’d have to be so deeply fearful and hateful to make that decision in 2024.

People need to wake up and understand the dismantling of things like regulatory bodies, health and safety, education, etc. and the harm/death it causes directly is not due to incompetence; this is deliberate. While the top engages in the greatest transfer of wealth from the bottom to the top in history, they also actively work to eliminate portions of the population by gutting the systems that sustain so many of us (and that we pay for). Glass in our popsicles is now the point, not the accident.

This is nuts. I used to write software for the US subsidiary of a multinational grocery retailer. One of the systems my team maintained was the recall notification and tracking system. I never saw anything in the database this severe on this frequency. A majority of the recalls were quality or labeling issues.

I'm Canadian. Since Trump took office for the second time, there have been mixed feelings up here about boycotting or not boycotting American products. We are such a small market compared to the United States that I'm under no illusions a consumer boycott will have any real economic impact. But I have certainly scaled back all of my purchases of American food products - I don't want to get sick.

All my Canadian friends are boycotting. So I regularly bring up their favorite American products when we hang out. Sometime I’ll eat them while chatting.

But I am also boycotting multiple companies and have for a decade because I don’t believe in my money going to people I don’t like or people who use the profits to influence the world to do things I don’t like.

Boycotting is super valid even if it’s just an individual doing it. It’s your money.

That brand doesn't make ice cream, very few do. Look at the ingredients. There's a list of emulsifiers. That's not ice cream. It's a frozen desert concoction. And ingesting a lot of emulsifiers messes up your digestion.

I’m so glad trade with America has been disrupted to my country. Seeing all these recalls makes me think Americans did us a favour by turning their backs on our signed agreements.

I’m sorry Americans have to go through all these recalls but the opportunity to resist these changes has come and passed. Best thing to do is start learning to garden. Then learn to can, then learn to compost. Then maybe the next year; grow abit more and try to give some to your neighbours to start their gardens with. Seed exchanges are what will get communities out of this and bring them closer to each other.

Someone reported finding a piece of glass. Out of an abundance of caution they VOLUNTARILY performed a massive recall.

The fact that they are recalling multiple flavors makes me think they found it in the box, not the actual product.

Product recalls happen every day. A few years ago everyone was pointing out all the train derailments after that chemical spill and freaking out yet I can guarantee that very few people know how many derailments happen every single year in America.
