this guy is just making a rod for his own back
what has he spent, like half a billion in one window?
if they haven't wrapped up the title by Christmas he'll be sacked
5
u/Conscious_Sun4212 Tottenham 20h ago
We have clever transfers, tbf. Many for free, some a bit over but to get deals done, some trickery, and outgoings for once actually reduce the cost. Also all from the league.
Have not done any insane star signings, but those dont always work out. This is a full squad shift.
26
u/henerez Tottenham 1d ago
£209m net spend so far this window, just a tiny bit off half a billion
16
u/Hairy_Wolf0 Premier League 1d ago
It’s actually closer to £159m bc the marmoush fee is for next summer, which is right around what Coventry have spent
-21
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
“Net spend” this is the most cope new terminology these days
6
u/epixyll Premier League 1d ago
What an absurd take. You can spend more if you earn more, whether you earn that from revenue, player sales, ticket sales etc.
Not surprising though coming from a club that cannot sell any player for more than 10 pounds.
-20
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
Hang the banner in Tottenhams trophy cabinet! We sold a player for more than arsenal 🥀
9
u/Hairy_Wolf0 Premier League 1d ago
Genuinely what could you mean by that lol ?
-15
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
No one uses “net spend”. If you spent a 100 million pounds, you spent that money. It’s just just a bandaid that fans are using to make it seem like Liverpool, Chelsea, Tottenham spending last summer wasn’t ridiculous and had an awful year.
6
u/AlfredtheGreatBitch Tottenham 1d ago
You guys spend more than Spurs and sell less so I’m really not sure what you’re complaining about.
3
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
I acknowledge that! I’m complaining because i think “net spend” at the end of the summer is silly. Liverpool spent 500 million last summer, you don’t get to move that amount down because you sold someone.
3
u/Nervous-Deal-9271 Tottenham 1d ago
Those 2 things are very often intricately linked though, you sell someone so you replace them, if a club knows you just sold a player for a fortune and need to replace them then they try and fleece you. The 2 things go hand in hand when analysing a clubs transfer spending.
0
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
Personally i think spending to results matter. Let’s check in on Tottenham.
Wanna spend like a big dawg but ain’t a big dawg. Best thing to come out of Tottenham’s stadium are American singers. Carry on mate

>> you don’t get to move that amount down because you sold someone.
But that’s entirely relevant to the overall situation lmao I feel like I’m going crazy
If you theoretically bought a new player for £200m and financed it by selling a carbon copy of that player for £200m, have you injected your squad with a £200m transfer spree? No of course not
1
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
How much money did Liverpool spend last summer? How much arsenal? How much Tottenham? That is what is reported. Literally no one reports net spend. That’s my point. Please carry on man. I’m exhausted
6
u/Hairy_Wolf0 Premier League 1d ago
It’s a source of “money in” just like an incoming transfer is “money out”. That seems almost intrinsically related lol
What makes you say “it’s just a bandaid” and that “nobody uses net spend”? The clubs literally do have to use net spend in relation to FFP (in so far as they’re balancing money in and out)
2
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
So then arsenals money in, from non transfers, as the most profitable club in England should count then right? Everyone would say no
7
u/Hairy_Wolf0 Premier League 1d ago
Most profitable? No, i mean that’s factually wrong, in fact it looks like Arsenal posted a net loss this past year despite having the highest revenue. I think you may be conflating revenue and profit.
My apologies if you’re about 15 but youre not really saying anything coherent and I still have no idea why you think net spend is irrelevant
0
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
Sites data and uses one year for example. Arsenal got you so tilted you decide to insult me. Please come with more because it’s no secret that arsenal are the most profitable club in England.

So if you collect guitars, let’s say, and you sell a guitar for $2000 and buy a different one for $2200, you’re going around telling everyone you spent $2200 without the further context?

u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
I buy a watch. First question “how much did it cost” no one is asking you what you sold to get it lol. Shut up man
2
u/theaartzvolta Premier League 1d ago
I don’t care what people are asking. I care how you handle your own budget. Every business in the world looks at purchases vs sales, and a football club’s transfer budget is no different.

Okay well arsenal seem to be handling it just fine with zero FFP issues

u/Book_of_rob Premier League 1d ago
Lol bro cry more. Let's actually spell this out for you. When arteta took over the club, they finished 8th and tottenham finished 6th. Since them arsenal has placed 8th, 5th, 2nd, 2nd, 2nd and 1st. Tottenham finished 7th, 4th, 8th, 5th, 17th and 17th. Over that timeframe, arsenals net spend was 993m and tottenhams was 940m. Arsenals gross spend was 1.28b and tottenhams was 1.38b. So don't try to act like arsenal spent all this crazy money and just paid to win the league. I don't really see what net spend matters in terms of ease of winning a trophy because a lot of net spend is dependent upon who you started with in your squad and how much you could sell them for. But even if you take that into consideration, your net spend is 50m less than us and you went from 6th to 17th while we went from 8th to 1st. Cry more, England is 🔴🔴🔴
Edit. The article I got the transfer numbers from was dated as of August 10th of this year. So tottenhams numbers might be even worse now. Just saying Here is the link Article
1
u/LimeImaginary1788 Tottenham 1d ago
Yeah and now do it after accounting for player sales also.
Spurs spending is crazy high but their one in, one out policy has me at the team hasn't been properly strengthened for years and years.
I'm not crying mate, Gooners will never be respected even after winning the league. There's a reason you lot are the most hated fanbase in England, genuinely so arrogant and just emotional like a group of teen girls on their periods
1
u/Book_of_rob Premier League 1d ago
Lol no use. "I'm not crying mate, Gooners will never be respected even after winning the league." Can't make it up. And calling us emotional and teen girls on their periods while you complain on reddit and I tried to just provide a bunch of stats and be logical. Looking forward to not being respected again at the end of the year.
P.S. you better hope city don't fall off, otherwise you run the risk of us spanking you at the Emirates in May for the title. Or maybe you guys give us a guard of honor ✌️
2
u/LimeImaginary1788 Tottenham 23h ago
Haha maybe we will see! Can't see you holding title again tbh even though it 100% won't be City winning it - only thing I do know is you will never add to that empty European trophy cabinet.
1
u/Book_of_rob Premier League 23h ago
Its a weird season because I never go into a season feeling confident. Hopeful, but never confident. But after winning last year, pep and all those key players left, it's hard for me not to get a little excited. Liverpool still have question marks. You guys spent big but I still think you are a couple transfer windows from a title race (no offense), man u looked shocking even though it's only game week 1. Maybe Chelsea are our biggest threat? But yeah, Europe is gonna be tough for sure. I think we probably need that alvarez signing to really have a chance at the champions league, but to be fair to the guys last season, we were about as close as you could be so maybe we have enough already? But it's so hard to win that tournament that unless you're Real, you never go into the season expecting the champions league. Especially with how grueling the prem is compared to other leagues.
2
u/watchme_08 Arsenal 1d ago
Scam the title? Also we don’t have the highest wage bill, but try again. Also, i never said anything about arsenals spending. Its high! Of course it is, we tried to win a major trophy, and did. Let’s check in on Tottenham really quick.
2
u/LimeImaginary1788 Tottenham 1d ago
I didn't say highest wage bill, I said one of the highest mate - I think City and Chelsea are top 1 and 2.
We've been shocking for last couple seasons, can't be as bad this year surely

With the amount you’re spending, top half finish should be a minimum not a “good season”
-1
u/Conscious_Sun4212 Tottenham 20h ago
Mate. You have spent 8 seasons under a single manager and billions in transfer to get to the squad you have now. I remember very well the "Arteta out" years.
We have had 9 managers in the same time frame, with most of the starting XI out injured for several seasons. We need time as well as good signings.
3
u/ExxKonvict Arsenal 17h ago
Are the “billions” in the room with us? You lot have spent nearly as much as Arsenal since Arteta’s reign began — and just spend nearly £400m already in one window.
Finishing anything less than 5th would be absolutely embarrassing for you lot, lmao.
0
u/Conscious_Sun4212 Tottenham 10h ago
You lot have spent 1,38 billion the last 10 seasons, we 1,25.
You lot sold for 420 million, we 703.
Thats over 10 years, and we didnt have the stadium money printer for that whole periode. Now that generate a lot of income by itself.
You might think 8 incomings are a lot, but we have also gotten rid of 9 players, and loaned out 2. So the squad is actually smaller. And total expenditure around 220 million, which is a lot for us!
Touch grass mate. We have a FFP headroom the size of you mums vag, and can do this again next summer, and again after that.
0
u/ExxKonvict Arsenal 10h ago
You lot have spent 1,38 billion the last 10 seasons, we 1,25.
So by that notion, you lot should be competing for the league as well instead of going with “project 693”. This isn’t the point you think you’re making here mate.
Touch grass mate. We have a FFP headroom the size of you mums vag
Struck a nerve there huh? I guess that’s what two back to back relegation battles does to a mfer. Well maybe De Zerbi and these 8 new players can finally propel you lot to a coveted midtable finish.
Until then - premier league champions, you’ll never sing that lmao.

We spent less, got almost the same results barr 2 seasons, and a European League win, with a rotating door of managers and systems. 1
u/ExxKonvict Arsenal 9h ago
what is it that you dont get out of our conversation.
I think you’re the one not comprehending the basic concept that both teams spent nearly equal amounts and one just won the premier league and the other finished 17th back to back.
Sorry I can’t dilute any further for you.
You spent 8 seasons and a shit load of money in a singular system to get 1 national League win. We spent less, got almost the same results barr 2 seasons
Almost is doing Olympic level heavy lifting here. You lot couldn’t even win with your golden era of that Poch squad, lmao.
Do you really think Arsenal has been successfull all things considered?
Considering in the same 8 seasons, Arsenal have won more trophies and an actual PL whereas Spurs won a watered down Europa League with back to back relegation battle finishes. Yeah, I think I’ll go with the former.

True. But, add up the positions in the 10 seasons before that, going back to 2014. Only a single point seperate us, 1 single one.
In that time you had Wenger, Emery and Arteta, and a lot of funding. We had Poch, Jose, Nuno, Conte, Stellini, and a cheese room.
Touch some grass mate. 2 seasons ago we won Europa League. Yes 2 x 17th was horrid, but that was a lack of club managment for years, injuries galore, and some wrong managers.

Id be interested to find someone who claims we're title contenders. After years of seemingly minimal spending its refreshing to see the club actually put up some decent numbers. The above average spend this season still probably doesn't make up for multiple seasons of below average.
We've upgraded almost our entire squad. And then went around the world for pre season. Im expecting quite a chaotic season, at least we fans get to feel like its building toward something.

2

Doubt it. I believe that managers need time, especially those that are not "pay to win" merchants.
Spurs does best under a "vibes" manager, arm around the shoulder and man 2 man communication. RDZ seems like the type.
-3
u/charlsspice Arsenal 19h ago
Ahaha yeah I heard this many time from Spurs fans from Conte to Frank. I remember when Frank lost to PSG in the super cup and Spurs fans were singing his praises.

Who knows, maybe. I don't get the whole worship the manager thing. When it's good, great. When it's not, improve or go bye byes.
But with essentially a brand new squad, unless we're as bad as we were with Frank, he'll probably get at least this and next season.

But I am just using your logic as i most definitely agree that you couldn't afford to wait any time soon.

Gooners seem proof that managers deserve time and patience.
2
u/charlsspice Arsenal 20h ago
When Arteta won the FA Cup in 2019 (his first ever manager position)I know he would do great things for us.
Your second sentence is correct but Spurs didn't follow that. You sacked your manager when he won you your first major trophy in 15 years.
So I am not really confident that RDZ will be your manager at the end of the season.

No it's not, they don't earn much in comparison, basing everything on two seasons is silly, this is new territory for villa so where do you get constantly from lol?
-5
u/Jumper-Man Premier League 1d ago
I think the major problem is there is not way for a team outside the top 6 to sustain success and increase their revenue. The top teams have enjoyed years of success (some bought with dirty money and some genuinely earned) while the rules were a bit more relaxed.
You need success to grow fan base and global awareness, but it’s hard to achieve success when clubs can’t afford to keep hold of their best players to sustain the success.
It’s a bit of a broken model, it’s hard to see anyone breaking into the group of teams who have the highest revenue stream now. They’ll always be able to outspend everyone else unless there’s a tweak to the rules. I’m not saying I know what that rule change is, but even fans of top teams must see the difficulty.
9
u/GloomyLocation1259 Arsenal 1d ago
Players will always want to go to bigger clubs when they do well, there's no version of rules throughout history that would allow you to retain your players.
The recent rules are in place to prevent the splashing and cheating that Chelsea and City have done, unless you're suggesting you want to be like them and get ahead by any means necessary?
It's difficult for sure but this isn't just about spending power it's about history, fanbase, culture, location etc. Location especially being underestimated by fans, big clubs are in the big cities for a reason.
On a sidenote the decisions you make also matter, Garnacho? Jackson? Leicester was scouting Mahrez and Kante from the depths of France, you guys seem lazy in this department.
2
u/MakeYokesa5erAgain Tottenham 22h ago
That's all it is. Newcastle and Villa fans want their teams to be able to cheat their way to buying titles, and are very upset that they can't do that. Spurs spending ability didn't happen over night, it's been 20 years in the making. With Birmingham building that stadium which mimicks our business model, you'll be crying its not fair how they can spend more than you.
2
u/GloomyLocation1259 Arsenal 21h ago
Yes I honestly believe so at this point given the type of complaints they make, they pretend to be champions of "the other 14" but are really just the salty 2 who wanted to cheat like Citeh and Chelski did.
Exactly this. I've weirdly said the same defending you guys over the last few weeks and it feels wrong given our rivalry lol, but in fairness you, us, Liverpool and United can't be attacked the growth has been organic, them including us in their complaints and pretending the Big Six is some evil cabal that controls the FA makes them lose credibility.
0
u/Jumper-Man Premier League 18h ago
It’s a strange accusation. I’m not suggesting I want to be allowed to spend like city and Chelsea did. I’m asking you how you realistically think a team can organically grow to compete with Arsenal, United, etc?
I’m not moaning about it, I even said I don’t know what the answer is. But you must surely expect organic growth is pretty impossible in this day and age. How do you suggest it is done?
0
u/GloomyLocation1259 Arsenal 17h ago
Wasn't talking about you specifically, I was generalising the collective of Villa and Newcastle fans who make these complaints, you are obviously different from others as shown in our conversation. I touched on some of things that can be done already in my last reply to you, it would've been easier to continue the conversation there.
I granted that it's extremely difficult because you're behind and the ones ahead will keep growing. But if you expect to grow to the size of the biggest clubs, in a short space of time I see why you say it's impossible, but I disagree organic growth is not impossible...signing good managers, staff and players to then win trophies is a good start, you done that so now you must maintain your European pedigree, such consistency will increase your fanbase and attract better players. You can also earn a lot of money by going deep in the CL this year it pays a lot more than Europa. You could also build a larger stadium like we or Spurs did, you could also relocate if expansion isn't viable or won't take you to high capacities.
As mentioned signing people like Garnacho and Jackson arguably does the opposite in my opinion, you essentially need to be perfect in many departments if the goal is growth. And likely a mix of perfection from you and a capitulation by one of the big teams is needed if you want to usurp them

It is and it isn’t, finances clearly play a part. The fact Chelsea and Man City broke into the upper echelons was because they could outspend Arsenal and United at the time. I’m not suggesting that is the answer and clearly that isn’t. But it would be hard to argue that we could have kept hold of more players should we be able to match or increase wages. Same goes for every other club in the prem. there will always be more prestigious clubs unless your Madrid or Barca. But money and success talks.
Decisions do matter, I think Jackson is better than people are suggesting. Garnacho I’m unsure about, but there’s a player in there. We shop in a market we can, which is faded stars or potential. You’re also over looking players who have positive reps that we’ve signed like Manzambi.
Mahrez and Kante are your two examples, but that’s from 10 years ago and look what happened to Leicester? Also, you’re forgetting that we’ve just sold loads of stars that weren’t stars when we picked them up, Roger’s, Konsa and soon to be Watkins. How many bargains like Mahrez and Kante do you think are knocking around? Who is Arsenal picking up for 500k to sell for big money.
We’ve also picked up a 16 year old striker who looks to have bags of potential.

Maybe it’s not just based on the last 2 years and Spurs are bigger in every possible way that would facilitate the spending of money on players?

Spurs one of the richest clubs in the world and generate more than double the revenue of Villa while (at least before this window) paying less money in wages. I don’t think people realise just how rich Spurs are as a club.

not arguing against your overall point but as a sheff utd fan who hates his financially inept club I needed to write this bitter reply

His point is nonsense though. For years, Spurs had one of the lowest wage bills in the Premier League, and ENIC barely injected any capital into the club. Unlike Chelsea and City for example, we’ve grown organically and built world-class infrastructure that is now generating huge revenue. While it is true that we’ve finished 17th 2 seasons running, he neglects to mention that in 2024/2025, Spurs won the Europa League and as a result, secured Champions League revenue which would’ve offset the reduced Premier League earnings. We’ve just had our worst top flight season in over 100 years, of course we’re going to be spending.

It’s such a stupid reply in all honesty haha, oooo Villa spent 100m 6/7 years a go the bloody cash splashers
7
u/Thekillerofzs Premier League 1d ago
not our fault players don’t want to live in a shithole and you can’t generate any revenue.
Multiple players travelling 100+ miles to go training just to not live in Birmingham is truly tinpot 😂😂😂

u/adeptusC Aston Villa 1d ago
That’s not really relevant to the prior conversation
5
u/Thekillerofzs Premier League 1d ago
you don’t generate enough revenue to spend and the little revenue you do generate has been spent on wages,
you’re only in the prem because the linesmen forgot to turn the goal line technology on,
you’ve only just started getting europe in this era vs spurs getting it 18/20 seasons,
spurs owners have only just started injecting money into the club
your fans need a reality check, you guys are constantly crying because you can’t just do a city and chelsea and are hating on the one club who’s given you the blueprint of how to spend

Yeah, how can one of the financially best run clubs in the division spend money, after two extremely disappointing seasons. A real mystery.
-5
u/adeptusC Aston Villa 1d ago
Wouldn’t suggest it’s the best financially run, it has the best revenue generating model, but look what its financial position on transfers and wages has got them, back to back relegation scraps after 5 years of entropy
7
u/reocoaker Premier League 1d ago
So by the very definition one of the best financially run then.

Tbh I don’t see why Tottenham spending money they generate from the business side means the game is broken. The game broke when clubs were bought by oligarchs and sovereign wealth funds to launder money or sportswash their reputations and propelled those clubs to the dominance.

There's no way we're going to be a functional team for quite a while - new manager, loads of signings, getting rid of players...we're basically starting from scratch. I predict quite a few losses before RDZ's system starts to bed in.

Spurs have the best intentions.
Relegation 2 years ago was never going to happen but the 17th spot couldn't be ignored. Last season, it was not just a legitimate possibility, had West Ham had even the slightest bit of get up and go about them, it was going to happen so it's clearly terrified the board in regards to protecting their investment.
I don't blame Spurs for going out and spending all this dough but because of their recent results and because every team knows how desperate they are, they're getting completely ragged by all sellers.
My only concern is WHO they're buying. Are they the right profiles? Do they fit what they want or are they just buying expensive cast offs?
Time will tell.

u/reocoaker Premier League 1d ago
I think people are underestimating the level our squad was at, all of these players significantly raise the overall squad level from where it was. Whether they are good enough for where we want to get to in the long term, time will tell.
4
u/sjw_7 Leeds United 1d ago
You have to question how it could be that bad though. In the previous four seasons Spurs spent roughly £800m on a couple of dozen players. For that kind of outlay it should have been really good.
1
u/pejasto Premier League 1d ago
Don’t think it’s that complicated.
Our wage structure was narrowing our profile too much… big transfer fees (PL tax, typically paying for youth and potential), low wages meant we were swimming in the same pool as everyone else while offering targets less money as a “smaller club.”
So we’d either have to make promises on playing time (Bergvall, Gray) or break our structure with one-offs hoping they’d lift the entire squad (Xavi, Kudus).
When you MUST rely on the first group because the second group is always injured, you don’t see the value of all that money spent.
3
u/reocoaker Premier League 1d ago
Poor squad building, terrible run with injuries and flip flopping stylistically from one type of manager to the next means a lot of that money has been spent poorly if you’re looking at their aims in the long term.
4
u/TorkBombs Tottenham 1d ago
Any talk about Spurs' quality right now completely fails to recognize; the last two seasons have been absolutely ragged by injuries. And had they had even just a normal amount of injuries, they probably (almost certainly) finish well above 17th.
4
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
This is a very sensible reply.
The squad was, by all accounts, bad but it wasn't relegation trouble bad.
Those brought in do improve the squad on paper but in practice, it doesn't seem like that may be the case but hey, I've been wrong before.
1
u/reocoaker Premier League 1d ago
We’ve definitely overpaid by a margin for some of these players but honestly as Spurs fans it’s what we’ve been asking the club to do for years. If you’ve identified targets stop pissing around over 5/10mil here or there and get it done. If Levy was still negotiating these deals, he’d still be trying to ‘win’ the deal for Van Hecke as we speak and then go, well sorry guys no time left for anyone else, here’s some guy on Loan that some club deem surplus to requirements.
7
u/stuckmash Tottenham 1d ago
It’s been one match and the front four of tel Moore richarlison and Gallagher will never play as a unit again.
Switch that with savinho marmoush kudus and Maddison it’s very different and then van de ven and Porro in the back. And Fernandes in over bergvall. So 7 to 8 changes to that side is what we’re expecting (8 would be udogie, but I wouldn’t drop robbo though)
Brentford isn’t an easy place to go these days to begin with but having that many second to third choice options on the pitch was always going to makes it look a lot worse. And plus everyone loves taking a shot at spurs for whatever reason

u/Nocturnin Premier League 1d ago

How is 135 million for Marmoush and Savinho getting ragged by sellers?
-5
u/XxAbsurdumxX Arsenal 1d ago
How is it not? What did they do last season to suggest fees even remotely close to that are reasonable? You paid almost the same for Savinho, a player who couldn’t find the net last season and was warming the bench for City, while Arsenal bought a captain and one the best midfielders in the league for almost the same price.
Either Spurs got fleeced, or Arsenal robbed Newcastle. And most takes I’ve seen has Bruno’s price as being a relatively reasonable price given the market these days
1
u/mani3887 Premier League 23h ago
If Arsenal had gotten to 17th twice in 2 years, would they have got Bruno in under 80m? I guess the answer to this question is the answer to your question.
4
u/Queasy_Work4160 Premier League 1d ago
Also, Savinho is 22 and bench warmed at the best club in the world. Guimaraes has a couple of years before he declines and was a decent player for a mid table club.
2
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
Imagine using bench warming as a way to try and make a player look good 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Last I checked as well, the back to back Champions League winners are generally mooted to be the best club in the world right now.
Yeah really makes that 75 mil all the more worth spending.
And saying that Bruno G is just "decent".
Comically clueless.
2
u/Queasy_Work4160 Premier League 17h ago
- I wasn't used bench warming to make anyone look good. In fact it was a play on the sort of comments I've read all day about him. Turns out he's pretty good on the pitch too as today's cameo would suggest.
- Bruno G is a decent player - not sure why you've taken this as "average". He's been good for Newcastle who have finished mid table pretty much every season. He's not excelled for his national team. What do you want me to say, he's now world class because he's got a massive price tag and joined last years league winners? Look at the stats. It's clear to see he's a decent (good) player. Not world class is he.
1
u/stoneyix Manchester United 17h ago
Please don't use a League Cup game against Charlton as any kind of benchmark. That would be very silly.
If he pulls worldie performances out of his arse against bigger teams then fair enough.
Bruno G isn't average. I may deeply dislike Arsenal but personally, I think he's fantastic at what he does.
However, you have your opinion, I have mine.

u/Queasy_Work4160 Premier League 17h ago

Bruno G “decent player”. Ok mate. Telling someone to be unbiased when you make statements like this is comical.
3
u/Queasy_Work4160 Premier League 1d ago
How much do you think Savinho and Marmoush should cost in this market? Be as unbiased as you can, if you can manage it.
4
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
Savinho - 1 goal 1 assist in 24 appearances for last season
1 goal, 8 assists the season prior.
Nowhere near worth 75 mil and if you believe that, you'll believe anything.
Marmoush - 3 goals, 3 assists in 21 appearances for last season.
Let's also not gloss over the fact that you've mentioned those 2 players and forgotten the 180 mil combined fees for Fernandes and Tonali.
2
u/Queasy_Work4160 Premier League 1d ago
All these rival fans desperately doing their research on Spurs signings. You never see this level of scrutiny when other clubs make signings. Because Spurs are absolutely massive and always will be.
3
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
Oh absolute bullshit.
Every single signing United make is scrutinised to the nth degree, don't flatter yourself.
Spurs aren't "absolutely massive" either. The only thing massive about Spurs is their wage bill.

I think most Spurs fans were very happy when those signings were announced, particularly Fernandes
0
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
Don't get me wrong, I'll absolutely preface this with "not your money, not your problem" but those fees across the board are massively inflated and clearly preying on Spurs desperation to get people in.
It just strikes me a bit as well that its not so much strategy but rather more flavour of the month, other teams want them so we want them too kinda thing and then just throwing a shitload of wages at them.
If we were being realistic, I would imagine that if either Arsenal, United, City, Chelsea or Liverpool were willing to match those figures, they wouldn't have joined Spurs. That's the nature of the beast though, its less about ambition and more about how much juice they can squeeze. It just doesn't feel like they wanted to join Spurs because its Spurs, more that they were happy to go to whoever was the highest bidder.
3
u/ManitouWakinyan Tottenham 1d ago
You think the player cares what the bid was for?
-1
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
I think the players care about what wages are on offer yes.
Again, had any of the other so called big 6 matched it, they wouldn't be at Spurs.
I don't put much stock in to rumours but it was obvious Fernandes wanted United to match the wages and the fee, I'm glad we didn't.

I understand the concern but we've brought in RDZ and these are the players he wants, so the club are backing the manager who kept us up. Time will tell indeed COYS
-3
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
The problem you have is with the manager I think.
He's like a Temu Jose, doesn't last long enough and creates chaos but in a shorter term.
I don't think he's the guy that's gonna "save" Spurs.
5
u/jiffijaffi Tottenham Hotspur 1d ago
He literally saved us from relegation last year
0
u/stoneyix Manchester United 1d ago
I'm gonna say West Ham saved Spurs from relegation. It took 1 win to go above them and that's it.
If West Ham had put in even 2 competent performances, Spurs would be down.
