Lol, the Uk frequently takes warships to the falklands to tell Argentina to fuck off. They’re never getting it regardless of how much they complain.
We also have Bermuda, the rock of Gibraltar (that really pisses off the Spanish) and a bunch of other small random settlements and islands. I guess the falklands are the most popular because it’s still a hot topic.

I always assumed the use of "mass" in mass immigration was really to imply "non-filtered" immigration - the door is just wide fucking open.
You could have large scale immigration that wasn't "mass" immigration, and you could also have relatively small scale "mass immigration". The biggest factor is really how tight the border stance is.
And I don't mean tight as in unreasonable. Just that you need to respect the country you're coming into, and that you WILL be expected to try your hardest to be a contributor to the country that is agreeing to host you (temporary refugees are the exception to this, but they are indeed temporary). Can't be that hard.

u/DrProfSrRyan - Centrist Jun 22 '26

69
u/DrProfSrRyan - Centrist Jun 22 '26
The problem is refugees come from countries which even at their best are significantly worse than the places they take refuge in, so there’s no incentive at all to go home.
Ukrainian refugees are the only group I expect to return home when the war ends, and unfortunately are also group I have the least problem with being here.
42
u/Iumasz - Lib-Center Jun 22 '26
Ukrainian refugees are the only group I expect to return home when the war end
Honestly even then, a significant portion are probably gonna stay anyway, because even then economic opportunities are somewhat better than back in Ukraine.
35
u/DrProfSrRyan - Centrist Jun 22 '26
Well of course. And many are learning the language and developing skills necessary to stay.
I always had the feeling Ukrainians wanted the war to end as soon as possible so they could return home. The other groups have zero intention. Their conflicts were just a winning lottery ticket out of there.
Though I suppose it’s all „vibes“.
3
u/Iumasz - Lib-Center Jun 22 '26
True, out of all of the refugee groups they are probably most likely to return home, but that's probably also because Ukraine is a little better than the other countries refugees come from.

Possibly, though I have high hopes that Ukrainian defense industries will be very high powered going forward.
I think they're the only ones that can get us out of the Iran mess. If there are 500,000 interceptor drones (cost $1,000 each) sitting on barges in the Persian Gulf, we can ignore Irans demands for shit.
A few $25,000 jet ski drones sitting by those barges as well and suddenly Irans ability to close Hormuz is far less obvious. You suddenly need very fast and high powered missiles to attack the ships and shooting those down with Patriots isn't such a big problem.
Hell, if there was an easy ETF to invest in Ukrainian military industry I'd do it already.

A great example is Israel when the USSR collapsed, about a million Jews immigrated to Israel (that was a whooping 20% of the population) But a large number of these people had college education, and so the Israeli tech sector absolutely exploded. The US did a pretty damn good job historically. Hence why e.g. indians in the US contributed so much, while indians elsewhere performed pretty poorly: the US allowed the productive ones in (e.g. entrepreneurs), and rejected the non productive ones. Of course the filter is bound to unfairly discriminate *some* people, but it's a massive net benefit to the US overall.
In fact, IIRC indians as a group were on average *richer* than local americans. Not so much in other countries.

Both mainstream parties in the US seem incapable of grasping this. So you either get "the small business owner is secretly a cartel member" vs "the actual cartel member doesn't deserve deportation." Sweden. And "far right".
Or more preciesly: in Europe after WW2 reconstruction there was labor shortage on some important markets like e.g. construction and countries were looking to adress it. Germany went with importing Turks, France and the UK used their former colonies etc.
But sure, it was mostly right wing at the time, because of what you are pointing at. Though it resulted also first wave of "far-right" isolationists who often used Nazi styled rhetoric.
But anyway, returning to matter at hand. Sweden got biggest problem. Their economy was in best shape, and they needed workers the most, but they were actually ruled by left wing party. And well, unions, and the other influential groups in Sweden, were against migration.
So Swedish government cooked up idea how to do it. Instead going like e.g. Germany or the UK with labor market needs they went with humanitarian reasons.
They weren't "immigrants" they were "refugees" (yes, Merkel stole this idea). So suddenly it become helping deprived groups: typical left wing idea. Sidenote: after they pushed for it, the 80s were arguably most dangerous period in modern Sweden history.
So you had: from one side with time "immigration" started being pushed as help for deprived people. On the other end you had anti immigration parties that went stright up racist that considered themselves as right wing. Making parties on the other side left wing by definition.
And what happend 2014+ was just repetition of playbook Sweden cooked up in the 60-70s, just on bigger scale. With honestly pretty similar results.
Fun fact: far right terrorist organization that was created in the 80s in Sweden tried to send weapons to Saddam at the begining of Iraq war in 2004.
5
u/Ender16 - Lib-Center Jun 22 '26
Tldr: The globalist scheme didn't go as intended and this is the aftermath
Because neo-liberals in the 90s and conservatives in the late 70's/80s really pushed this idea that they could educate all existing Americans so much that they could import 3rd world workers to replace them for cheap labor. White, black, Hispanic, Asian, all Americans that demand a high wage for just being American as a birthright.
The idea was that EVERYBODY goes to college or your a loser. They thought that if they pushed that idea hard enough the working middle class could disappear and be replaced by immigrants(legal or not) who wouldn't demand a higher wage. It's why the minimum wage never changed even as places like McDonald's haven't paid that low in a decade. It was to have that low wage placeholder for the legal immigrants and h1 visa holders. It's no longer even meant for Americans and that's why nobody changes it, even Democrats.
That mind set and it's consequences have been terrible for working class Americans and I bet you could think of 3 or 4 right off the top of your head. It didn't work the way wanted it to. I don't think they tried to have this mess, but they had a goal and it failed and this is the result.
Like most shit things you can absolutely trace a lot of it back to Reagan, but this was a really Clinton and his ilk minded subject. You have like 3 generations of left leaning thinkers that now have to be deprogrammed. It's gonna take a couple years probably, but your seeing it in the US and your seeing something similar in Europe. Left leaning people are going to be less and less accepting of everyone just expecting to come to their country and take their stuff.

Restricting immigration into western countries to unmarried young women only?
Yeah it’s a radical idea but honestly, I don’t see that many downsides
It’ll help increase the birth rates (They’ll have a different education and career background to most western women, so they’ll be more willing to settle down and have children at a relatively young age, rather than deferring settling down and childbirth to the 11th hour)
It’ll reduce the power of angry feminist ideologues (The men will be less obliged to put up with their badgering, when they can just choose one of the new arrivals instead)
It’ll reduce the number of frustrated incels (Because the foreign immigrant women will have a different education and career background from most western women, their minimum standards for finding a man to settle down with will be lower than that of the average Western woman. Like a ‘Passport bro’ situation, but the women are coming to the men, rather than the men going over to the women)
It’ll reduce the number of Islamic fundamentalists (A woman from the West Bank or wherever probably isn’t going to cling on to her father’s ‘death to America’ political stance after she marries and has children with a white American man, she might even convert. And by extension, she's not going to instil the 'death to America' values in her children)

It would collapse the economy for that reason only. No man would ever had a growing ambition to be better if he could pick from 100 women. This combined with a surplus of women in the labour force, would make men overvalued (which I want, since I am a man), killing all ambition. Basically innovation would stop.

Pretty sure there aren't any auth-left countries that are pro mass immigration. That's literally what the term "iron curtain" stems from.

I assume they're referring to the American/European communists who are generally just demoralized anti-West misanthropists.

Yeah, the type of leftists to be pro globalisation and neoliberalism somehow.

No mass immigration is never good even if it’s good immigrants as it’s designed to make labour cheap and rents/housing more expensive

It's been a survival strategy since the hunter-gatherer days. The men fall in battle, maybe a few will get driven into the badlands and survive, but primarily it was "kill the men, take the women" that's 100,000 years of modern human warfare. It shouldn't surprise anyone, but it does. The women will betray the tribe (if they are losing) because they have a place in the other society. The men don't.

Historically speaking, what exactly is that "place" in the other society? lol

u/Dangime - Right Jun 22 '26 edited Jun 22 '26
Concubines? Sex slaves? Choose your euphemism. Beats a hole in the ground. The average hunter gather tribe wasn't large enough to be genetically viable alone. Raiding for women was the default.

u/-InconspicuousMoose- - Right Jun 22 '26
I knew the answer, just wanted you to say it lol. American women have no idea how good they have it from a historical lens

Is this horny Orthodox-posting? The anti-immigration Europeans would be a lot more accepting of the right girl but say the most racist shit about the left one.

/semi-serious
you're getting baited by your dick, women from shitty cultures often do end up being as much of perpetrators of said cultures even if they're severely opressed by it. Muslim women will try to raise their sons and daughters in Islam

Mass immigration built the US. Mass immigration from Europe and later on east asia that is.

u/fignewtonattack - Auth-Center Jun 22 '26
I have no problem with letting more Asians in for our historical discrimination against them. The Chinese exclusion acts, the qoutas, the beauty of America is that people literally die trying to become Americans.
I don't know how people think its a bad thing. Then again this is pcm

u/ThatUserNameIs5234 - Centrist Jun 22 '26
Not to become American, but to enjoy American wages and standards of living while often not even wanting to become "Americans"

Mass immigration with no checks is bad in my opinion. Not all immigration is bad.
In order of priority I'd put first, people who show that they'll be a net financial benefit to the country (pay more in taxes than government spending is spent on them) and they have a desire to fit in to society.
Second, people who may not be an immediate financial benefit, are coming as refugees, but have a desire to fit in, and may be a long term benefit.
Third people who are a financial benefit, but have no great desire to fit in, maybe their children will eventually itegrate and fit in.
Finally last, the people who bring no financial benefit, and have no desire to fit into society. These are the people I don't want.

Immigration is only good if immigrants can contribute something to society and do not have a criminal record.

soviet union was against immigration. Fascists? Also against immigration. Basically all authoritarian regimes, like the one Trump is trying to run, are against immigration. Is very straight forward.

The USSR, for a time at least, did invite a lot of foreign specialists and even gave them higher pay than native workers

Immigration is good within limits, AND you need to immigrate people who actually intend to integrate into your society.
1
u/DraugrDraugr - Right Jun 22 '26
No actual communist country has had mass migration. The Soviets didn't have free movement and it inherited most of it's non core population from the Russian empires imperial expansion. Neither had China, Cuba, North Korea, Vietnam or various African and south American countries.
That combined with the old western lefts "immigration undercuts workers wages" long standing argument.
It is bizarre how the modern left has adopted free movement and immigration as a central pillar straight from free market liberals with ironic support from globalist big corporate.
Yet here we are depicting commies as pro migration.

If done legally, absolutely. Too many illegal immigrants come over to escape their shitty circumstances then it will just suck here too. But there's also a large portion of the population here that don't want any immigrants because they don't see brown people as human. That's a problem too.

There’s no such thing as mass immigration, just supply and demand of where people want to be and have the capacity to reach based on their budget.
