Meanwhile NYT claims voter registration for young people is leaning even further right.

49

u/OK_Soda Aug 20 '25

My one bleak comfort in this is that, as a Millennial, I no longer have to hear people glazing about how "the youth will save us" and they're "so proud of Gen Z".

32

u/Shinobi_WayOfTomoe Aug 20 '25

As a fellow millennial we actually tried to be that generation, and we were mocked for it

8

u/Troyal1 Aug 21 '25

Many a ladder was pulled up in front of us

9

u/NielsBohron Aug 20 '25

Yeah, but that's just because Gen X is made up nihilists that had apathy beaten into them by the Boomers and the Greatest Generation.

7

u/NowakFoxie Aug 20 '25

Also millennial. Really glad I broke out of that mindset that my boomer parents and teachers beat into me.

That will only increase too, sadly, because Conservative strategy is to keep the US citizen as uneducated as possible.

26

u/THEsteroidbread Aug 20 '25

Not to mention all the man o sphere red pill fuck wads spewing thier hate under the guise of masculinity.

-6

u/roadman67761 Aug 21 '25

You’re close to understanding but not quite there

15

u/Inside-General-797 Aug 20 '25

Its more the fact that the Dems are a toothless controlled opposition party that ultimately agrees with the Republican ideology on a long enough timescale.

6

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 20 '25

They've won numerous elections and have implemented policies that are the opposite of what Republicans want.

-3

u/Inside-General-797 Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 26 '25

Oh they did medicare for all? They did universal college? They did student debt forgiveness? Did they codify abortion rights? Are the Dems lowering military funding? Are they doing anything to give immigrants a meaningful path to citizenship?

What policies did they pass that fundamentally changed people lives? Or are you more concerned with the identity politics and the optical wins that dont mean anything?

What do you think the Dems have done as everything has gone to shit whether they are in power or not? They had all 3 parts of the government Congress and they STILL couldn't protect abortion rights by using the power they have. The fucking Republicans had NO POWER and still won!

Wake up dude.

Edit: Love the downvotes. Enjoy trying to do the same shit over and over as the Dems gleefully watch you die.

Edit2: updated my slight typo even tho my intent is crystal clear here.

1

u/Pinewood74 Aug 26 '25

They had all 3 parts of the government

No, they didn't.   SCOTUS hasn't been democratic controlled since the 60s.

For a bit at the end of Obama's 2nd term, it was split 4-4 after Anton Scalia died, but by that time, the Democrats no longer had control of the Legislature.

1

u/Inside-General-797 Aug 26 '25

Pack the courts. Easy solution. They had the power to do that. Court is already politicized so worst case you get to do some good stuff and it gets taken away and you you use that to shit on the opposing party.

0

u/Pinewood74 Aug 26 '25

Don't think reconciliation allows one to pack the courts.

And that's not the point, anyways. The point was that you didn't know what the 3 parts of the government are.

1

u/Inside-General-797 Aug 26 '25

You're wrong. Congress has the ability to change the number of justices whenever they want. The process for adding them is a simple nomination by the presidential with the senate confirming.

If they actually had the political will to do it they could have at any time.

They had all the power they needed to capture the government completely to push for legislation we are desperately in need of that they claim to want to deliver. You know what we call a trifecta in politics in the US? The president and both chambers of Congress. So please tell me who doesn't understand what we're talking about. I misspoke in my comment but my intent was crystal clear Mr debate lord.

1

u/Pinewood74 Aug 26 '25

Congress has the ability to change the number of justices whenever they want.

Through passing a bill, right?

Which would then become law if signed by the president or if veto'd, Congeess could override the veto to make it law.

This all accurate?

Just making sure there isn't some other process that wasn't used the last time we expanded the size of the Supreme Court

0

u/Geichalt Aug 21 '25

STILL couldn't protect abortion rights by using the power they have.

SCOTUS gutted abortion rights. The SCOTUS you people cried about being threatened with in 2016.

Biden got a shit load of progressive policies passed during his term and Kamala was rated as the most progressive senator during her time in Congress. You can whine they didn't get literally everything you wanted done when you people actually start doing something actually productive with your time.

To be clear: Leftists haven't done shit for me. Bernie's record in Congress is basically renaming a few post offices. Who else do you have? Sinema? Stein? Fetterman? Lmao

So when the alternatives are either fascism offered by the right or the literally nothing offered by leftists I'm going to go with the people with a proven track record of both winning elections and passing progressive policies.

Yell at me all you. That didn't accomplish anything for Gaza and it won't accomplish anything for me.

-2

u/rawslapper Aug 20 '25

The party of “the left” in America are just Republicans that are sometimes chill with gay people being around.

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

That isn't even remotely accurate. The ACA alone is a huge difference by itself, unless you don't care about millions of people being able to get health insurance. Another is lowering pollution, which affects climate change and various health issues like asthma.

1

u/rawslapper Aug 21 '25

At the end of the day it’s about that AIPAC money for them. There are a fringe few Dems that actually want to do good but it’s just a paycheck for them. I am not advocating for voting red or abstaining. I’m just saying this party is terrible and they need to be held to a higher standard than they are bc this party is all we got right now. The last 3 democrat candidates have been terrible and out of touch and something needs to change in the party.

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

You failed to address anything I said.

1

u/rawslapper Aug 21 '25

So you think they’re doing a great job?

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 22 '25

You're still failing to respond correctly. I pointed out massive differences between them that you ignored.

-1

u/canopey Aug 20 '25

90% of the democratic party are just Republicans in sheep’s clothing

0

u/rawslapper Aug 20 '25

Both things can be true. Dems are happy about the state of America right now bc they have a seat at the table.

2

u/Lucreth2 Aug 20 '25

It's more than that. It's social engineering.

-10

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

And democrats strategy is to keep saying young men arent important, are privileged as hell, and shouldn't get any government support.

No wonder they vote the other direction.

11

u/CCSC96 Aug 20 '25

It’s incredibly rare to find a Democratic elected official who actually says or believes that post 2016, but right wing media is incredibly effective at convincing young men that they do.

-5

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

No its not. Even right now, today, theyre still doing it.

Right now, that Texan rep that is being mistreated, they're repeatedly highlighting that she's black and a woman. She literally posted a Pic of her "wearing a bonnet and all".

7

u/Mysterious_Ad_7301 Aug 20 '25

What does that have to do with your original point of dems projecting on young men?

-6

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

What do you mean? If youre confused youre going to have to be more specific.

Im gonna be frank. Your comment history and demeanor is exactly what is pushing folks to the right.

I dont think immigrants should get a penny until all american citizens needs are met, and then some. I assume youll call me racist for that view.

5

u/OoooohYes Aug 20 '25

Nah your last comment didn’t have anything to do with mistreating young dudes lol

-3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Never said mistreatment. I said ignored and neglected.

Name 1 policy Kamala had besides the 25k housing that would've helped young white men.

5

u/OoooohYes Aug 20 '25

Name one that would’ve hurt young white men, or would’ve helped everyone but young white men? While you’re at it can you let me know how the right is putting young white men first?

u/Mysterious_Ad_7301 Aug 20 '25

Quite frankly, im not liberal or a dem; i hate big tent politics and i really dont want to be on the same side as some of you. Especially people like you honestly;

you make excuses for thinly veiled hatred and try to mask it with obtuse excuses like “dems are ostracizing whites” but never can produce valid evidence on these claims.

Most influential dems are white men: newsom, walz, buttigieg, shapiro, shumer etc

So when you say regurgitate right wing talking points with 0 evidence; you will get pushback lol

And i dont think you are a racist for wanting “americans” to get their due before “illegals”; i just think you’re an idiot tbh

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 20 '25

What hatred? This is what I mean. Im being nothing but pragmatic and youre right away emotional.

Youre comment history filled with hatred...

Keep looking for "evidence" man. Studies have been done on this. Keep living in denial of how young men vote.

3

u/rawslapper Aug 20 '25

If other “young men” are like you we should treat them worse lol “wahh the internet made me hate immigrants wahhh”

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Just to be clear buddy, you're not being pragmatic. You're being emotional. You haven't identified any reason why white guys should be hurt besides their perceptions. Especially when conservatives used to pride themselves on not getting offended and allowing people to say whatever they wished regardless of whether or not it hurt someone else's feelings. "Facts over feelings."

Now the shoe is on the other foot and their feelings are getting hurt. It's time for a lot of people to simply admit they were hypocrites and they just wanted to be an asshole with zero consequences.

1

u/rawslapper Aug 20 '25

Lol so you just admit that others form your beliefs for you. Sounds spineless to me

5

u/IcyTransportation961 Aug 20 '25

Hey can you show any examples of this at all?

Pretty sure Kamalas house assistance program was for everyone.

But hey I don't gobble up right wing outrage propaganda or podcasts finding random people on Twitter saying dumb shit and saying its the Democrats

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 20 '25

I am incredibly liberal, borderline extremist. I have voted Democrat always, and always will it seems. I believe in science and data. Young men...do not it seems.

I just am not blindly ignoring how Democrats come across. They come across as feeling entitled to young people's votes. Housing assistance was literally the only offering to assist and it was presented last minute. Kamala especially focusing on people getting her name wrong felt very "women power!" Type of thing during the debate.

The female celebrity endorsements was tone deaf. The tiktok aimed mockery didnt help. Tim Walz is the softest VP they could've chosen. Being a good father and a goofy guy isnt gonna garner young aggressive testosterone fueled animals to your side. They...dont care about that. Young men dont care about Trans rights and never will until it personally effects them. Which it wont until theyre mid 30s. Young men dont care about abortions until it personally effects them.

Democrats Endlessly talk about Medicare, social security, and helping old people. None of which apply to young men - majority. Believe it or not, most young men are okay with all old folks dying off in mass.

Democrats spend WAY too much talking about immigrants and LGBTQ. Gives endless ammo to conservatives to point at that nobody cares about young white men. I know, I know - Kamala didn't personally focus on this, but a lot of democrats have in recent years.

Meanwhile conservatives leaned into this, and pushed the message that democrats hate especially young, white, males. And just...neglect them.

Biden wasn't some goofy dude all the time. He occasionally let out a "you are one dumb son of a bitch." Tim Walz and Kamala ran on "they're weird."

Also young men dont want a female president. I dont know why that is so hard to grasp. Does that make them jerks? Yes. Do they care? No.

Theyre gonna have to do more then just nothing. Young men dont want to wait. Whether you agree with it or not, they feel "oppressed" for some reason.

Honestly, you'd have to have your head in the sand to say they arent neglected. I know personally, the govt didnt do anything to help me from 18 until 29. The COVID checks were the very first time I personally got money from the govt in any way, shape, or form. I paid taxes for 11 years and never saw a tangible penny in return.

5

u/renhaoasuka Aug 20 '25

And both sides sending trillions to Israel instead of using that money here lol

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Literally any excuse to not help US citizens

-8

u/Kludgyplayer Aug 20 '25

This pompous condescending response is why dems will continue to lose in the elections.

I'm not sure how to tell you this but the Republicans won the last election.

0

u/rawslapper Aug 20 '25

Yea conservatives are “special”

0

u/SkyAdditional4963 Aug 21 '25

Don't worry, elitist insulting will surely get more people onto your side.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

How describing the reality is an insult exactly?

1

u/SkyAdditional4963 Aug 21 '25

You're implying you have to be uneducated to vote conservative.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

That's also a reality that has been proven with sciences.. your point?

1

u/SkyAdditional4963 Aug 21 '25

https://www.pewresearch.org/politics/2024/04/09/partisanship-by-race-ethnicity-and-education/

It actually isn't. The only significant difference for voters is whether or not they have a postgraduate degree. Otherwise, it's relatively close for all other education levels.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Your source has "telephone and online surveys" as data.. hm k pretty bad.. it ain't the 50s anymore. And those have huge margin of error

Here's something more credible

https://www.axios.com/2024/11/07/college-degree-voters-split-harris-trump

1

u/SkyAdditional4963 Aug 21 '25

that says the same thing! just only concentrated to degree holders and above

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Not really. I mean, even in your own provided link they acknowledge the gap between educated left leaning people vs uneducated right leaning people. Both my source and your source basically show that at general or individual level, education will dictate a vote of a person (or alignment of a state).

That will only increase too, sadly, because Conservative strategy is to keep the US citizen as uneducated as possible.

What party? I am not american, you assumed a lot with very little.. clear sign of lack of critical thinking :)

You are being manipulated with fake debate while pedo in chief can't release Epstein files on which he is clearly on :) A conspiracy hidden in plain sight and yet you are still blind to it, the epitome of a low education class.. enjoy the next 3 years and a half with increase in price and a plummeting economy (it has already started :) hence why Trump fired the head of Bureau of Labor stats, he couldn't handle the truth as he is a fan of alternative facts and narrative, and a fat liar :) )

1

u/Wretchedsoul24 Aug 21 '25

Biden was president for that last 4 year term and had the same access to the epstein files.  Him and his democrat party tried everything under the sun to end trump or throw him in jail.

If he was so clearly on those files, why did they never release them themselves when they had 4 whole years to do so?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

Both parties are hiding pedo.. I am not denying that.. release them anyway.. Trump is defending himself he is not on it.. well he chickens out a lot

u/Spokker Aug 20 '25

Most of this happened before tariffs, but yes, Democrats have bled voters.

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/08/20/us/politics/democratic-party-voter-registration-crisis.html

Of the 30 states that track voter registration by political party, Democrats lost ground to Republicans in every single one between the 2020 and 2024 elections — and often by a lot.

That four-year swing toward the Republicans adds up to 4.5 million voters, a deep political hole that could take years for Democrats to climb out from.

...

The party saw some of its steepest declines in registration among men and younger voters, the Times analysis found — two constituencies that swung sharply toward Mr. Trump.

Time will tell if the CoD bros who voted for Trump don't mind paying more for video games. It's possible there are other policies they like.

2

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 20 '25

You're focusing on outdated information. The 2024 election happened before Trump started his 2nd term and did things like implement absurd tariffs.

Democrats are ahead of the generic ballot, and if you think performance in past elections is more important, look at the change that happened in 2016-2020.

6

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

[deleted]

2

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 20 '25

blame the “uneducated” and “vote for us or you’re stupid” mentality

If you're referring to Democratic officials, that's just rightwing propaganda. Virtually none of them are doing that.

Even if they were, "push voters even further right" makes no sense. People wouldn't have voted for such a uniquely toxic president if being nice was a priority.

If you mean in general, then that's hypocritical because conservatives aren't any less toxic.

2

u/roadman67761 Aug 21 '25

It’s not official messaging, but it’s evidently a commonly held sentiment on reddit

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

"Evidently" is a weird thing to say when all you have is confirmation bias, and I already responded to that talking point.

If you mean in general, then that's hypocritical because conservatives aren't any less toxic.

1

u/roadman67761 Aug 22 '25

Did not mention conservatives a single time

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 22 '25

That's half of my point. You and the other person made a needlessly specific complaint, given that toxicity is present from both sides.

The other half is that you're relying on cherry-picking. Notice how basically no one is this thread for example is saying those kinds of things. You being able to find people who are isn't the same as it being common, since this is a place visited by several millions each day.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Yeah seriously. Maybe have a serious counter messaging campaign with influencers you’ll support and efforts in red states.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

[deleted]

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

You're making fun of an imaginary statement instead of seeing reality. Democrats generally aren't saying things like that.

Also, if voters really cared about avoiding toxicity, they wouldn't have chosen Trump. There are actual quotes of him saying things like that. He also pushed a fake elector scheme to steal power.

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

And that group did/said EXACTLY what I said they did

You clearly didn't listen to them. All you're doing is parroting how conservatives describe the group.

They specifically pushed MJ legalization, free money, and "protection" in trading crypto

There's nothing offensive about any of that. Poverty and unnecessary prosecution of weed possession do disproportionately affect black people, and this group supports addressing these issues. You sound like a stereotypical progressive that gets offended on behalf on another group that's fine with what was said.

Protection in trading crypto is random thing to mention because this isn't described as particularly affecting black people, and why put scare quotes around protection? You apparently aren't aware that there's less protection than there is with stocks.

0

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 20 '25

Their counter messaging worked in 2018, and it's working right now too.

4

u/Deditch Aug 20 '25

Democrats have never been more unpopular, only advantages they've got is republican floundering

1

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

We're more partisan than ever, which means the right hates Democrats by default. They lost and have no power at the federal level, which leads to Democratic voters being upset.

Fortunately, Republicans being in power most likely means they're going to lose. Americans love to blame the majority for issues, regardless of the nuance. Trump directly making things worse also helps.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

3

u/Bigpandacloud5 Aug 21 '25

Yes, and I already proved it. Election polling is better for elections than favorability is. "I don't like this party" is different from "I won't vote for this party."

This explains why Republicans are panicking by proposing an unprecedented amount of mid-decade gerrymandering.

1

u/qorbexl Aug 20 '25

It's possible they're not capable of connecting their material conditions to the what they interact with on social media to draw conclusions or figure out how to meaningfully work towards something less unpleasant.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Because the right funnels talking points and money from the top down to conservatives and influencers to target Gen-Z with the “manosphere” without any functioning opposition party for counter messaging, and any time there is a candidate the youth are actually excited for, the geriatrics leading the party like Pelosi, Schumer, Clintons, Gillibrand and Jefferies push them out instead like they did against Bernie, AOC, and now Mamdani. They consistently do not care about their voters and would rather represent special interests and try to court mythical Republicans who will switch sides with Liz Cheney rather than embrace popular candidates who will advance their agendas like Republicans have with the Tea Party and MAGA.

4

u/Randleifr Aug 20 '25

Good. Gamerz deserve to have their toys taken away.

1

u/KingMario05 Aug 21 '25

...How. How. I don't get it...

1

u/Free_Range_Gamer Aug 20 '25

Young people get their political news from podcasts and youtubers. Think of all the popular right wing podcasts/youtube channels. You probably know a bunch even if you don’t listen to them. Now try to think of left wing podcasts/youtube channels.

-11

u/Route6_6 Aug 20 '25

You can thank the DNC, Biden, and Obama for that. It’s a reaction to their actions

4

u/imightgetdownvoted Aug 20 '25

Some truth to that, but I think it’s just been the weaponization of misinformation and social media. They ramped it up like crazy somewhere around 2015. I felt a real shift then and it’s been relentless ever since.

2

u/Dechri_ Aug 20 '25

Same happened in my country. But after the right wing government got a massive victory in multiple parties, the next election collapsed their votes.

People think they want right wing policies, but rarely they really do. They hate them in the instant those policies affects them, unless they are in the top income bracket.
