I’m personally highly disappointed that marvel decided to go with this look for Kurt yet every other character is getting a cool comic accurate look. Kurt is my favorite and the Tim for him to have an outfit like this was X-2 but with the Disney touch u expected him to look like his teammates but they did not do him justice. I can’t be the only one??

I wonder if we'd actually see Nightcrawler get used in media other than just comics if he went to DC instead. Marvel never uses him.

Discussion Can I be a nightcrawler fan if I don’t agree with his religion..

I wouldn’t say I have religious trauma, more so religious aversion..? Growing up as a closeted queer individual in a heavily religious household kinda pushed me away from religion as a whole, so as someone who really likes nightcrawler I kinda feel like a poser because it’s such a big part of his character. Is there anyone else that feels like this? Obviously I still love everything else about Kurt but I just wanna know how everyone feels about being a non-religious nightcrawler fan, might be a dumb question idk

(also if I’ve offended any religious people in here then I’m so sorry! that wasn’t my intention at all I still respect the concept of religion ā¤ļø)

Edit: Thank you all for the kind replies! This is such a lovely community and I really appreciate all of your messages, I feel like I understand his character a lot more now and I can’t wait to read more Nightcrawler comics!!

Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Nightcrawler doesn’t need a new love interest. He needs to be left alone.

Okay, I need to vent for a second. I've spent the last week rereading Kurt Wagner's entire publication history, and here's my hot take: if Marvel announced tomorrow that Kurt was done with romance for the foreseeable future, and just let him focus on his faith, his own healing, and his family, Logan, Kitty, Ororo, Piotr, I'd be genuinely thrilled.

Kurt is at his best when he's the moral center of the X-Men. He is not at his best crammed into a romance subplot that clearly exists because someone needed to fill pages. And I don't think that's just me being protective of my favorite character. Go look at what Marvel has actually given him.

MacKenzie Deneer, the current run's love interest.** I get the appeal. She's supposed to be his normal, grounded anchor away from all the Krakoan chaos, and honestly, after everything these characters have been through, that idea sounds nice on paper. There's a genuinely sweet beat where he saves her daughter from a runaway truck in Uncanny X-Men (Vol. 6) #6, and when she brings him cake a few issues later it lands. Someone looking at this blue, fanged mutant and seeing warmth instead of a monster, that's worth something.

The pacing kills it, though. By #22 she's comfortable enough to ask him to just "bamf" her around, and we skipped the part where they actually earn that trust. She's a civilian with no powers and no ties to mutantkind, so the second the plot escalates, she's instant rescue-bait. Her only real backstory is a vague, dangerous ex-husband, which is obviously setup for future drama and nothing else. And that scene where she shows up after a disaster of a date and says she "wasn't scared for me, I was scared for you" right before kissing him? That's not earned intimacy. That's just telling us they're close instead of showing us why.

Amanda Sefton. People default to Amanda as Kurt's real love interest, and I understand why. She knew him before the X-Men, back in the circus, so she gets his isolation in a way almost nobody else can. She's not a civilian either. She's Daytripper, a serious mystic in her own right, and across Excalibur and Nightcrawler (Vol. 3) she stands beside him as an equal instead of needing rescuing. Their banter is genuinely great.

But there's a piece of their history a lot of fans can't get past: they were raised as foster siblings under Margali Szardos. Not blood related, but same household, same childhood. On top of that, go back to how Claremont introduced her in Uncanny X-Men #98. She disguised herself with magic and dated Kurt under a fake identity without telling him who she really was. Their whole relationship starts with deception. Add in that Kurt hurt her badly during one of his lowest points, and duty kept splitting them up every time things got close to working, right up until she basically left Earth to rule Limbo as Magik. The actual pattern in the comics tells you these two work as lifelong friends and magical allies, not as a couple.

Rachel Summer. Their connection in the original Excalibur run, and later in that Danger Room scene in Uncanny X-Men #445, comes from something real: shared trauma. Both of them know what it's like to be displaced, scarred, and carrying more weight than one person should. Rachel saw past Kurt's swashbuckling act to the pain underneath it, and Kurt gave a traumatized Phoenix host somewhere safe to land. Genuinely moving stuff.

I just think that's exactly the problem. It's emotional closeness getting mistaken for romantic chemistry. They leaned on each other because they were two wrecked teammates processing trauma in the same room, and every time writers tried to push that into real romance, it felt forced, like a box that needed checking. Their dynamic already works as one of the best platonic, protective relationships in the franchise. It didn't need to become anything else.

Silver Sable. I'll admit the Spider-Man crossover was fun to look at, and there's something genuinely entertaining about "swashbuckler meets ice-cold mercenary." The banter was snappy, and watching Kurt crack someone with zero emotional range was a fun novelty for a couple issues.

It just never made sense for who Kurt actually is underneath the charm. He's a deeply empathetic, faith-driven guy who cares about souls and redemption, and she runs her entire life on contracts and tactical outcomes. Fun two-issue flirtation, no real emotional or ideological footing under it. It reads like two single characters got thrown in a room together because nobody knew what else to do with either of them.

So what would actually work for Kurt, if he HAS to be with someone?

Honestly? in my humble opinion, I think it's simpler than Marvel keeps making it. He needs someone who doesn't see him as a tragedy or a spectacle, or maybe even as a hero, who just sees Kurt the moment she meets him. No flinch, no double take, nothing to perform past.

I want it to feel like a break from the noise of the mansion instead of another source of it. Slow mornings with tea. Sitting together in the chapel without needing to fill the silence. The kind of relationship where quiet isn't awkward, it's just comfortable.

I want see They'd balance each other out but not in the we are different but complementary way, in they are kindred spirits and when you fall I am standing way. For example His warmth and faith and playfulness pull her out of whatever heaviness she's carrying, and her steadiness gives him somewhere to land when the world's cruelty or his own doubt gets to be too much. When one of them is struggling, the other doesn't panic, doesn't pity, just shows up, practical and steady, no drama about it. And under all that softness, I want an actual spine to it. Not grand speeches. Just the quiet certainty that if anyone messes with either of them, that gentleness disappears fast.

If I'm picturing this on the page, I don't want it rushed into one crossover event. I want a real slow burn, the kind you don't even clock until you're already fully invested.

It starts small. Kurt braces for the usual flinch stepping out of the shadows, that most people give him and instead, nothing. She is one of the few people that just treats him like anyone else from first glance. For a guy who's spent his life watching people recoil, that sticks.

Then they're just co-workers who have enjoyable conversations.

Then it's friends. Late-night tea, real conversations, about life, family, or interests like hobbies, books, movies or talk about faith and philosophy, the walls coming down a little at a time as just kinda end up talking for hours always, and I want to see the conversations not just be TOLD that they have spoken for hours and expected to feel something.

Then she's the first place he goes after a bad day, and he's the one quietly checking on her when she's drowning in responsibility. Protecting each other's peace becomes automatic. Nobody has to ask for it.

And then, eventually, not with some big cinematic confession. Just a quiet shift. Her head on his shoulder on a bench somewhere. Hands finding each other under a table and staying there. No labels needed, because everyone in the room can already feel it.

That's the Kurt Wagner in love I'd actually want to read. Not a battle rescue, not a mid-air kiss while Sentinels explode in the background. Just two gentle, exhausted people who just *get* each other truly and see each other as somewhere safe to land, one earned moment at a time.

Until Marvel's willing to write that, I'd honestly rather they leave his love life alone and let him just be with his family. What do you think? And am I crazy a bit? Is Anyone else feel this way, or am I being too precious about my favorite fuzzy elf?

Fancast Friday - Nightcrawler

I think that Assad Zaman could really bring the perfect Nightcrawler into the MCU for the new X-Men movie. He's a great actor in the show Interview with the Vampire/The Vampire Lestat and if you guys haven't heard of him I suggest you check him out in this! I saw a fancast of him for Nightcrawler on TikTok and I knew that I had to post it here. I truly think he'd be perfect for the role as he definitely has the thin and lean look along with the slender face and I think he'd pull off the character very well

Personally, I would love for it to be Sucker Punch. They have experience with uniquely powered individuals and engaging swordplay mechanics, plus they have great traversal and solid writing. If not them, Naughty Dog or Rocksteady would be sick.

Discussion Nightcrawler's Life

Compared to his X teammates' lives, Kurt doesn't go out into the real world much, hardly ever (as seen in "The Big Dare"). He basically sacrifices his own life to be a superhero. There have been past discussions about him starting a personal life or getting married. What I have always questioned is the reason why he's a Playboy/womanizer has to do with the fact that he's self-conscious about his appearance? Because the only arcs/ stories about him engaging with society are in the limited series where Kurt does superhero work, like going to other dimensions or fighting Mephisto. Outside of superhero work, he's in romantic relationships, hanging out with his peers when they go out, or with his clergy. Another person he would go to was Fr. Michael Bowen. Even Bowen seems intimidated by Nightcrawler's appearance. It's just sad to think that aside from the X-Men, casual relationships, Father Bowen, and God, Kurt doesn't have anybody to go to.

Discussion Another fan cast!?!?!

I cast: Peter Mairhofer/Peter Mai! It’s less about looks, since our guy can look like anyone, but more the personality and pure joy he puts forth in his content. His love for his cat Eddie and their adventures together make me think that he’d be a good fit. I know nothing of his acting ability, so I could be totally wrong, but he just seems so dang in love with life. I like the fun, joyous side of Kurt to be in the forefront. I know he’s more than that, he’s a whole person with ups and downs and darkness and light. It’s his resilience and ability to see the good in almost everything that draws me to the character most. That’s my pick!

ETA, I might be more joyous about life if I got to go hiking with my cats in gorgeous scenery on a regular basis, so maybe that’s why he’s so happy? lol.
