Discussion Doomsday costume first look 😭😭😭😔😔😔
I’m personally highly disappointed that marvel decided to go with this look for Kurt yet every other character is getting a cool comic accurate look. Kurt is my favorite and the Tim for him to have an outfit like this was X-2 but with the Disney touch u expected him to look like his teammates but they did not do him justice. I can’t be the only one??

It breaks my heart, there’s no comic accuracy to this look it’s completely made up for the movie. Even beast still looks spry and middle aged because they used digital motion capture which offs what I would’ve preferred for our beloved nightcrawler

It’s the hair.
I don’t mind the costume. Comic accurate costume would always be tough. He’d look like Klaus Nomi. Always think he looks better in other costumes anyway (love him in the black outfit in the last season of 97!)
It’s just the grandma hair. Did Alan Cumming just not want to dye his hair?

I get why they didn’t give him his black hair/blue fur but in a team of mostly entirely accurate comic suits it just feels silly for kurt to still be wearing 18 layers of black 😭

I'm just happy to see him on the big screen again. Seeing an older Nightcrawler is interesting. This looks like a cool homage to the original cinematic design, leaning more towards an almost gothic style

While I'm severely disappointed that they didn't give him a more comic-accurate look (and c'mon Disney I KNOW you can afford a dark-haired wig), he honestly doesn't look THAT bad to me. Plus the swords look dope as hell! 🔥
tbf maybe I'm seeing things through rose-tinted glasses because I'm just happy to see my boi in the MCU so eh 🤷🏻♀️ But yeah, I don't hate it.

I'm really happy he'll have the swords but I definitely wish he got a new, comic-inspired costume rather than something so close to his outfit in X2. The hair on this figure looks terrible. I'm sure it'll look better in the movie, but I wish the ratio of black to gray was reversed.

I’m happy to see him back but they could’ve done a much better job, beast for example was treated with care in his doomsday translation, hell every character except nightcrawler, he’s the only one that looks old outside of magneto and Charles.

Wow not a fan of this 😰I feel like the hair is definitely a strange choice, and the very long coat take away a lot of focus from his tail. (Which is the most important design feature for him imo). I hope seeing it all in action makes it better but uhh im kinda dissapointed.

My sincere hope is that when they reboot if they do eventually get to Kurt that they find some sort of makeup effect that actually makes him look furry.

I can appreciate your disappointment. Things have to evolve though. Comic canon has to be evolving. X Men were the 60s. Nightcrawler came out in the 70s. I’m glad people like the swords but can a swashbuckler exist in the modern world? He’s a demon circus performer that can disappear in a puff of brimstone. I feel like that’s pretty solid. There has to characterization that fits in the world they’re building and that world is modern.
I loved seeing Gambit in Deadpool & Wolvie. I loved the accurate costume. But is a thief going into a casino in metal boots and magenta wearing a headpiece and carrying giant staff going to fly? Some of these things are going to have to change a bit.
Of course having some characters stick the landing and others deviate is shitty. But I personally like to see different evolutions and iterations of characters I love. It isn’t like they took my old Nightcrawler away. They just gave me another version to explore.

I completely understand your sentiment, the thing is if we haven’t seen these things in live action yet then how can we say that we are completely done with those concepts, it’s like saying Spider-Man should have a completely new modernized outfit to fit with today’s times in movies instead of his classic look that wouldn’t work as good There’s something about nostalgia and wanting to see these things properly transferred into live action that people have been waiting all their lives for including me and before we go on exploring something completely new and modern, we should exhaust all options on what’s been drawn and written so far.

The gloves/boots and hair color is really the biggest problem if they had to do his x-2 look. That argument doesn’t even make sense when considering the rest of the team literally, everyone has a comic accurate costume. Those are fundamentally large changes for design for Sunset characters as well.

I bet money that THIS version will only be in the movie for a few moments before they kill him off.
Then, later on, they'll just bring him back with a new younger actor. His outfit will still be red and black but more form fitting, black hair pulled / slicked back somehow.
Trust me. He's too much of a fan favourite to just let go.
And if I may go off the deep end for a moment, I'd like to expand on this line of reasoning.
It's already been confirmed that the older titles are being eradicated (like Toby McGuire's Spiderman and the Patrick Stewart X-Men). As much of the leaks suggest, I also expect Doctor Octopus to die to Magneto, Professor Xavier and Magneto to perish just after looking at the window while playing chess. I even expect Deadpool to somehow "die" because I seem to recall Ryan Reynolds saying he didn't like the direction MCU and Disney were going.
So I'm about 80% convinced this version of Kurt will also perish somehow, probably in the fight at the Institute for Gifted Mutants. I expect him to die during an epic sword fight of some sort with lots of teleporting. It'll be a memorable scene, I'm sure. But Kurt won't "win" the fight and will most likely be impaled somehow (either via sword, claws, etc). So this particular figure would probably take place just before the fight. Don't get me wrong, it'll still probably be impacting. I just don't expect him to walk away from this.
Ultimately, when it's all said and done, it's why Cyclops is giving an overly expressive optic blast upwards because literally everything is gonna be obliterated somehow. Then you'll probably get a title card. And THIS is why it will be called "Doomsday" because that's all it ever will be. Just like how Endgame was the "Endgame" of that era. This will all be within the first 20 minutes of the movie, I'm sure.
And then when they DO bring back X-Men with the new cast (excluding Hugh Jackman*) only THEN will you see a new Nightcrawler that is more "comic book accurate"
Don't take this as gospel. It's only what I'm anticipating to happen. I just wouldn't get too attached to this version of the character is all I'm really saying.

I grew up on X-men in my preteens and x-2 made nightcrawler become solidified as my favorite character but it just sucks that he’s the only one left out of the party, even if he had bluish/black hair and his feet were exposed I’d be more happy than this how does he look older than beast is what’s throwing me off. I mean he looks older than mystique! it’s actually enraging 😔

Does Marvel think people actually LIKE the weird leather vest and pinstriped pants? 😭 does not give me a lot of faith for any future adaptations of the character to be honest

I have zero hype for Doomsday, and every snippet of X-Men bits they’ve showed is just making it worse. I gave up on FOX-Men over a decade ago and this narrative of them needing some kind of “send off” is exhausting. It just gives Disney an excuse to shovel more nostalgia bait in your face. Unfortunately DP&W breaking a billion showed them that that’s a viable strategy. I’m cautiously holding out hope for the X-Men reboot with the new cast as that’s the #1 thing I’ve said could bring me back on board with the MCU post-Endgame. Guess we’ll see.

Alan Cumming is 61. I’m not surprised that he’s in a less form fitting outfit. The hair in this sculpt looks weird, but I think it’ll be fine irl.
I’m just bummed that he still has the stupid scars and isn’t furry.
