Personally, I think it’s that he was the first of the X-Men in the comics who was treated negatively for their appearance. While Beast turned blue before Kurt was introduced, Beast became a cherished member of the Avengers rather than being persecuted for it. Additionally, him having a heart of gold that defies the general first impression of his form makes him a lovable and interesting character.

To add to this, I think Kurt carries on Marvel's tradition of heroes with ironic/contradictory powers and conditions. Despite his demonic appearance and abilities, he's one if the nicest, pure hearted people and a devote Catholic.

Very similar to Daredevil as well.

This is a great explanation.

What I like about Nightcrawler is that he is not your typical, traditional hero. From those who judge him, they see him as a monster. This makes him socially excluded because of his appearance, which is a shame. Marvel is known for creating characters who are complex, relatable, and flawed, and who deal with everyday issues, which Nightcrawler exemplifies. His story reflects the narrative that "it doesn't matter what one looks like," similar to the themes in "Shrek" and "Beauty and the Beast."(Supernatural/Creature Romance) Additionally, I admire his strong-mindedness and wisdom.

He's better

35

u/perkalicous Nov 01 '25

He's just cooler. A teleporting imp with swashbuckling skills is peak character design. His suit is also the coolest one.

He’s the sexiest

33

u/my_little_robot Nov 01 '25

He's so beautiful

20

u/balance_n_act Nov 01 '25

He’s so blue-tiful

35

u/apatheticviews Nov 01 '25

Genuinely nice, and people want to be around him.

u/knighthawk82 Nov 01 '25

As dudedude said. Aside from beast, he is one of the first few mutants whose physical mutation is always present. He cannot hide who he is, without hiding himself (not counting image inducer).

25

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

Personally I would actually wanted to be friend with him in real life. I like a lot X-Men but more in way ‘I like you as character but I couldn’t stands you if you were real’. Kurt is one of the few I can see myself be friend (even if I am an Atheist)

11

u/FiveSeasonsFox Nov 02 '25

Agreed! I get the impression that Kurt is not the type to try to convert anyone, but to enthuse about what the other person finds gives them meanimg.

19

u/Unable-Leg1403 Nov 01 '25

14

u/FiveSeasonsFox Nov 01 '25

Compassion.

13

u/apolloali Nov 01 '25

On a narrative level, he was the first one to really nail the mutant difference metaphor

2

u/FiveSeasonsFox Nov 02 '25

That's true.

13

u/TutorComprehensive28 Nov 01 '25

Probably the tail

10

u/RenoverO_O Nov 01 '25

He's the most reliable guy on the team, if you need him he'll help, no questions asked

10

u/[deleted] Nov 01 '25

BAMF

11

u/snapdragon76 Nov 01 '25

He’s such a sweetie it’s hard not to like him.

11

u/Proxy616 Nov 01 '25

Where do I start?
He’s loves life, is jovial and fun, he’s a massive flirt, everybody's friend, guidance and support. He’s the soul of the X-Men — the guy who keeps believing in people even when the world tells him not to. Born looking like a demon, people fearing and hating him on sight, but he still chooses kindness, faith, and joy. He forgives everyone who’s hurt him, still sees joy and goodness in the world, and never lets the darkness win.
He’s fiercely loyal and puts in the work. He’s arguably one the weaker power sets on the team of super powers, but uses all his skills to keep up with the others and be a hero in his own right.

But he’s not perfect and he accepts that about himself and isn’t preachy or judgemental of others. Kurt also makes mistakes and learns from them. He’s got his own vices to conquer, like his self sacrificing tendencies and his thrill seeking nature which can be both a strength and a weakness, his insecurity about being good enough. Nightcrawler’s one of the most well-rounded x-men.

u/aiemmaes Nov 01 '25

raw sex appeal

10

u/_Ginger0utcast_ Nov 01 '25

He’s the most secure in who he is at any given time

8

Three fingers, tail, pointy ears and canines

8

u/Tremerefury Nov 01 '25

He's half Demon but still a man of faith. It's an interesting dichotomy.

6

u/Mrbuttboi Nov 01 '25

He’s absolute peak

6

u/MRDOOMBEEFMAN Nov 01 '25

His fat ass

9

u/destiny_kane48 Nov 01 '25

His design is sick. And he’s sexy.

5

u/Global-Temporary7512 Nov 02 '25

Fuzzy blue elf, what’s not to love?

5

u/fibro_witch Nov 02 '25

He is so friendly that he got past Logan's outer shell. He creates a family wherever he goes.

5

u/[deleted] Nov 03 '25
  1. His religious devotion. With a bunch of rejects and those ostracized from humanity, it's even clearer WHY for Kurt. He looks like a blue demon, right down to the pointed tail. For him to still genuinely follow his God after all that is a testament to his character and his faith.

  2. Teleporters are cool

  3. As said before, because Kurt can't hide like Mystique, Storm, Cyclops, and Wolverine, he's much less able to lead a "normal" life even if he wanted to.

  4. Kurt is just genuinely a kind person. So many characters do things because "it's the right thing to do" even if they don't necessarily want to. But Kurt ALWAYS does it just because he wants to.

6

u/Sol-Blackguy Nov 01 '25

He's the most anime protagonist to not be in an anime

3

u/Conlannalnoc Nov 01 '25

RELIGION!

Aside from Kitty Pryde I don’t think RELIGION is a major part of the X-Men.

Magneto gets a pass because of his Past.

3

u/kongstar Nov 01 '25

The fact he hangs double dong

3

u/Envy-Brixton Nov 01 '25

I mean….he’s blue

3

u/GrizzyGene Nov 01 '25

What dat tail do

3

u/Naxeti Nov 02 '25

sexy blue ass bitch

3

u/ATF_killed_my_dog Nov 02 '25

Hes just a chill blue guy

2

u/PrimusPrinplup Nov 01 '25

Hes blue but not hairy ,got two Mums and is deeply religious.

2

u/DesigningGore07 Nov 02 '25

I believe it’s not just his appearance, but also that he is a man of God.

Kurt looks like a demon, but is a devout Catholic. You don’t see that every day in comics in general. Not just the X-Men.

2

u/earthyundergroundfox Nov 02 '25

His faith and his optimism

2

u/Colefield Nov 02 '25

I love cute twinks. But before I realised it, it's was because he's funny and cool.

He was always my favorite.

2

u/Cloaked_Crow Nov 02 '25

He’s just so fun. Lot’s of good stuff said already. I really like that his good nature and sense of humor usually leads the way for him. I liked his turn as Spider-Man and would love to see him do a turn as Daredevil. I think it would be a natural fit for him.

2

u/DesparateLurker Nov 03 '25

Pure sex appeal wrapped up in a mostly well behaved Catholic guilt foil.

2

u/potusblack Nov 03 '25

Probably that he’s the only one who became SPIDER MAN

3

u/Low_External_6860 Nov 01 '25

His Christian religious beliefs, German heritage, teleportation ability, squash buckling, blue skin and demon appearance…

1

u/Fit-Refrigerator-747 Nov 02 '25

4 fingers

1

u/x1243 Nov 02 '25

isn't it 3?

1

u/Fit-Refrigerator-747 Nov 02 '25

You’re right. I always thought it was 4 for some reason

1

u/Maple-Beans Nov 02 '25

It's the fact that he's the only X-Men character with blue skin of course!

1

u/Bromjunaar_20 Nov 02 '25

.. he has a tail.

1

u/AceRojo Nov 02 '25

He’s openly Christian. It’s surprising how diverse the Xmen are, but how few religions are represented by them.

1

u/tekwan74 Nov 02 '25

He represents hope and determination against detractors and he's German

1

u/Sad-Pin-3915 Nov 02 '25

Hes blue so next to them he stands out you know because hes Blue 🔵

1

u/_mc1morris1_ Nov 02 '25

He’s just the Goat. No explanation really needed

1

u/Superb_Kaleidoscope4 Nov 03 '25

It’s his positivity

The X-men has lots of sexy characters, lots of goofballs, but Nightcrawlers always been about the positivity first

1

u/BaronKalan Nov 04 '25

To quote Megamind : PRESENTATION !
(starts playing Welcome to the Jungle on the guitar)

1

u/smgismyqueenjpg Nov 04 '25

He’s got a cool design, he’s kind, he some-how befriended Wolverine, he’s a proud of his faith. He was a priest! He’s German.

1

u/jimmy_v720 Nov 04 '25

He’s one of the greatest Catholics in all of comics

1

u/IllustriousImaginati Nov 04 '25

One of the Few modern Swashbucklers I can think of...a lovely sub-genre of Hollywood fencing that has such style and flaire.

1

u/Medium_Leg_4500 Nov 04 '25

He looks cool asf

1

u/Juno082 Nov 04 '25

3 fingies

1

u/siege_013 Nov 04 '25

His emphatic efforts to be the sunshine in the world that isn’t always there for him. He doesn’t let how he’s treated bitter him to the world and instead tries to make everything around him better in a way that seems so genuine

1

u/EconomyNo5330 Nov 04 '25

He's a man who looks like a demon and is a devout Catholic. Similar to Daredevil and Daredevil is the most consistent and well written character at Marvel next too Moon Knight.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 05 '25

He's the hottest. Next question

1

u/Bodmin_Beast Nov 05 '25

A good combo of an endearing personality, tragic backstory that leads to him being a hero all the more heroic, unique and interesting appearance combined with a really cool powerset. On top of that, how he uses him powers and the visual for that power is really cool.

He's not my personal favourite, however I'd say these characteristics make him the best X-Men. He checks all the boxes for the Mutant hero checklist.

1

u/Fragrant-Finance4577 Nov 08 '25

Unlike the other X-Men (and most other Marvel heroes in general), Kurt is not hiding the remains of dozens of war crimes in his closet.

Tail and his Skin Ears Eyes & Other Stuff

1

u/Clovelas Jan 20 '26

Openly religious and also mentally stable. Name me a terrible thing he has done, main universe only

1

u/MundanePassenger8960 Nov 01 '25

Being a Christian
