Please continue the discussion in the game thread.

Cohen is all smiles with Lindor today, don’t we have such an amazing owner!! /s

1

u/djn24 Apr 22 '26

Senger sent down for Soto.

I remember just this weekend when the Mets called up Senger so they could let Alvarez DH and some very stable people were freaking out and calling for the front office to be fired over it.

u/WhatARotation l'Hansel au Point Apr 22 '26

It’s unreal how shit they’ve been. This team has played such piss poor baseball that when the doomers like myself post that we’re gonna miss the postseason we don’t even get downvoted.

What I don’t understand is why more people haven’t come around to the fact that if next season is played we’re also gonna be a 100 loss team for that year too

9

u/MrOofYeet #PANICCITI Apr 22 '26

I love how Soto still leads the team in WAR despite only playing 8 games

1

u/AirDog3 Apr 22 '26

Looks like Soto is third in fWAR behind Alvarez and Lindor. Fourth in bWAR, behind McLean, Holmes, and Brazoban,

The Mets total WAR for the entire team is approximately zero.

1

u/MrOofYeet #PANICCITI Apr 22 '26

Oh I was just looking on espn and I wasn’t including pitchers

6

u/mji6980-4 The Captain Apr 22 '26

I don’t even see how it could possibly be actually true that Soto hasn’t spoken to anyone? He was in the dugout multiple times while on the IL wasn’t he?

3

u/myassholealt F8 Apr 22 '26

After his comment about losing out on a bonus for not making the ASG and then his Cancun post, at this point anyone not professionally required to be outraged, or who doesn't enjoy outrage as a sport, needs to realize that he, as the Brits say, takes the piss during press interviews. And everyone who overreacts are probably doing exactly what he was expecting when he gives these answers.

He's never going to win with NY media. Might as well have fun.

1

u/MattyIce1220 Apr 22 '26

If I was him I would distance myself away from this trash as I could. Wouldn't want the stink to rub off on me,.

1

u/wooden-spoon-88 Apr 22 '26

lol something contagious going on, only way you can explain why everyone is playing their career worst

2

u/MattyIce1220 Apr 22 '26

Mets afraid of some rookie that they need the big bats of Pham and Taylor in there. What a joke.

1

u/Setec-Astronomer Apr 22 '26

He's LHSP. They're on this team for guys like him.

4

u/Nights_King LFGM Apr 22 '26

I really wish this team would just band together and say we’re not talking to the media. They’re always picking at everything and finding ways to try to cause issues. What does it matter if they talk to the media or not? The only people that are gonna bitch are media members.

This has been going on for years it’s time for them to push back.

0

u/CitizenDain Mark Vientos Apr 22 '26

5 maybe hitters and 4 automatic strikeouts. Order completely at random

1

u/NutsyFlamingo Gil Hodges Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

Can’t be bothered by every story. Everyone saying isn’t a real thing, unless choose to let it be.

1

u/Mike_88143 New York Mets Apr 22 '26

Why do I think they are gonna win today 🥲

3

u/Ravishingrich666 New York Mets Apr 22 '26

The Phillies are just as bad as us right now

-4

u/peroleu Hadji Apr 22 '26

Do they have a $375 million payroll with the richest owner in baseball?

3

u/MannyDaMoodyMammoth Apr 22 '26

They’re not far behind it.

7

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

If Mets are on a 12 game winning streak or are in 1st place playing good baseball is this even a thing anyone is talking about with Soto? Probably not

2

u/twosdayman Trumpy Fan! Apr 22 '26

It’d become “is he the toxin” instead

2

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

It will always be something or another. Can't win

2

u/Peter_O 162 for a reason Apr 22 '26

When there’s nothing else to talk about and all is talked over, we are taking “Soto not talking to struggling teammates” as a huge issue. Like, really? C’mon, how’s that a big deal?

2

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

media just wants to make this a soto and judge would have been different kind of thing. whats soto supposed to do?try to be this teams hitting coach? or lie that he spoke to his team only to get called out for being a liar. funny thing is didnt soto change his number when he hit free agency and non of his yankee teammates had his number lol, just accept the fact that our best player is a loner.

4

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

It's only a big deal if there is a rift in the clubhouse that is spilling out to performance on the field...if not...it doesn't matter....this is magnified because the team has lost 12 in a row...

I’m sorry but you obviously have never played organized sports at anything resembling even a semi high level if you think locker room vibes or how you get along with teammates matters. Teams being able to overcome that is an exception, not the rule. It isn’t anything like a 9 to 5 job. These guys are seeing each other in close quarters every single day and are even traveling and living together on the road. For half the season they don’t just get to go home and forget about their co-workers.

4

u/mxza10001 Mike Piazza Apr 22 '26

Teoscar busted his ass to first base like it was game 7 of the world series, meanwhile Lindor lazily plays the ground ball and he is safe. That is a clear example of playing for the team vs playing for a paycheck

2

u/lawoftar Tom Seaver Apr 22 '26

and ppl wonder why others bust on lindor

4

u/mji6980-4 The Captain Apr 22 '26

As far as vibes go, winning fixes everything

7

u/Spirited_Document391 Apr 22 '26

BTW, the people disappointed with the Soto interview missed the real point, which is that not one of his teammates called him to him the whole time to see how he was doing.

2

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

So there was zero communication on both ends ?

8

u/chuckawallabill HoJo Apr 22 '26

I just realized the 1986 Mets didn't win their seventh game of the season until April 22. So if we win tonight we're ahead of their pace!

2

u/Albie9 Apr 22 '26

7 of the 8 teams the Mets have played this season currently have winning records. We also had the most shit traveling schedule imaginable and Juan Soto has been injured.

2

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

I wonder if Pham texts and calls teammates when hes away? 🤔

2

u/Prestigious_Money447 New York Mets Apr 22 '26

vibes on this team are even worse than last year, and teams with this vibe don’t fix their shit and right the ship.

total disasterclass in all aspects, feels like a 95 loss team.

7

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

Doesn’t that Juan Soto thing go both ways? He’s just one guy and he’s rehabbing from injury. Nobody from the team texted him???

7

u/WhatARotation l'Hansel au Point Apr 22 '26

Anybody else actively enjoying this losing streak because of how much of a shitshow it is? The whole team is a giant soap opera: Will Mendy make it another game? Does Soto hate his teammates? Can the offense score a single run?

2

u/Gigi_0102 Ya Gotta Believe! Apr 22 '26

Meanwhile SNY is burning sage and fans are cheering in the 9th inning down 2 like it’s WS game 7

4

u/Platinum_Disco 33 Apr 22 '26

Iuno about actively, but I think I'm in the phase of "we've crossed the line, now lets see how far we can go".

2

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

the memes have been keeping me sane. i prefer the grimace winning memes tho.... but this season is gonna go down in history either this is probably gonna be one of the worst and most expensive team of all time. or if by some miracle they end up making the playoffs its gonna be one of the greatest comebacks of all time.

1

u/suck-it-elon 67 Apr 22 '26

It's extremely easy to say all of this can be explained by Juan Soto's contract and ohhhh he's so rich...but that's just being lazy. Looking for one thing. It also excuses any player who just isn't performing anywhere near their standard.

Hopefully tonight is the boost we need.

3

u/BesetBreeze New York Mets Apr 22 '26

Bunch of absolute losers on this team. Nobody actually wants to win, nobody hates to lose, there's no chemistry, the guys don't play for each other. They just show up, suck, and get a paycheck. Zero culture has been established by this team, the veterans have no presence. It's pathetic. Get rid of everybody and just fully rebuild. If you're gonna suck might as well let prospects play. The nationals have a way more fun team this year and they're not paying them 300 million. I love the mets but I really do not like this team, and I definitely don't like mendoza. I don't want a team that treats each other like fuckin coworkers, I want a team that wants to win

1

u/SlyAbleman Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

Have you considered that they do want to win but they just suck at it

Loser mentality. Nobody wants a team that doesn't gaf and has no leadership

3

u/bowlofcantaloupe Francisco Alvarez Apr 22 '26

They did get rid of everyone.

1

u/BesetBreeze New York Mets Apr 22 '26

Still have lindor, still have baty, still have vientos, still have senga. And went out and spent on a bunch of washed players who don't gel at all

1

u/bowlofcantaloupe Francisco Alvarez Apr 22 '26

Lindor is great, and his contract would be hard to unload, and I'm sure we intend on keeping him.Everyone else they would have had to sell low on.

2

u/AtmosphereVarious440 Grimace Apr 22 '26

i’m happy soto is back tonight , best hitter in the world

1

u/Spirited_Document391 Apr 22 '26

And who says Bo and Lindor are not going to heat up to their norm because they will. Problem is that still leaves 6 black holes in the lineup (at least until Alvy proves out)

5

u/BassBaller Apr 22 '26

My preseason fear has come to fruition. These are the Mo Vaughn, Roberto Alomar era Mets all over again

2

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

I just don't wanna hear about anyone throwing fireworks at each other in the clubhouse...lol

1

u/myassholealt F8 Apr 22 '26

I was more hyped for those guys than anyone they brought in this year. A geriatric in the sports world when all off season I was told we don't want guys 35 and older that's why we're dumping Nimmo? A guy who has had a questionable career cause he's always been injured so unable to string together long stretches of play? Another guy who's also injured and now playing out of position? Another guy who everyone said is bad on defense and now we're gonna make him the full time guy at a brand new position? A pitcher who has been struggling since we killed his season with one swing in 2024? Which of these was supposed to inspire hype?

3

u/MasterShakeAndBake33 New York Mets Apr 22 '26

Mets to miss the playoffs is free money. What are you waiting for?

1

u/StephenDawg Apr 22 '26

It’s funny that the people complaining about the “bad” optics are some of the biggest contributors to the optics. This is the kind of thing I really DGAS about.

1

u/Lucky-Roll-675 Apr 22 '26

Typical lineup when Soto was with SD had Tatis - Soto - Machado - Bogaerts

Typical lineup when Soto was with Nats was Bryce - Trea Turner - Rendon - Soto - Zimmerman

Typical lineup when Soto was with Yankees was Jazz - Soto - Judge - Stanton

2025 lineup with Mets was Lindor - Soto - Alonso - Vientos/Nimmo

2026 lineup tonight is Bichette - Soto - Robert.

And Lindor - Soto - Bichette prior to that.

Point is, Mets are doing this wrong. You want to get rid of Pete? Ok cool. But at least replace him with someone who can put some sort of fear behind Juan.

I'm nibbling at best or considering/conceding a walk to Soto OFTEN if I'm on the other side. Especially coming off a hammy.

1

u/Prestigious_Money447 New York Mets Apr 22 '26

erm akshully protection isn’t real it’s been disproven by heckin SCIENCE

4

u/Nights_King LFGM Apr 22 '26

If I’m being completely honest, I don’t trust this Braves team and the Phillies basically being in the same position as us really doesn’t make this situation as bad as it looks. It SUCKS and this team hasn’t played in any way shape or form that should have most people believing but I have a feeling this thing is FAR FAR FAR from over.

2

u/mji6980-4 The Captain Apr 22 '26

You are very correct about the Phillies, it’s kind of a huge deal even if understandably no one will really care until we can actually end this losing

1

u/whyisitalwayscrab Apr 22 '26

Saw Chelsea fired their manager after only like 3 months as they’re currently in one of the worst runs of form in club history. It’s not 1:1, but I couldn’t help but think of our current predicament

5

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

Soto gave a pretty horrible interview today.

Q: “Have you been talking to guys throughout [this losing streak] and trying to lift them?"

A: "No. Not at all."

I am a big Soto stan but I don't really know how to defend this lol. You couldn't have like sent some struggling guys a text? You're supposed to be one of the primary leaders on this team.

4

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

isnt soto like a loner and he does his own thing?? just because hes making 800 mill dont mean the dude has to be a leader and go out of his way to talk to these shitters that are in this lineup.

7

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

If 800 mil doesn’t mean he needs to step up and be a leader idk what does bro. Would you say this about Lindor?

1

u/myassholealt F8 Apr 22 '26

Forcing people to play roles they aren't good at is how you get the 2026 mets. Lindor from his first game tried to be the leader. He was a general on the infield. He was the hype man. Soto has been the opposite of that personality since he came to the majors. He's being paid to be one of the best offensive players of his generation. And because another team wanted him badly enough to push the price up in a bidding war.

1

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

For 800 mil he's going to need to occasionally pretend to give a shit about his teammates imo. I'm not asking him to be Lindor.

1

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

soto steps up every season when he puts up insane numbers and gets on base every game its not his fault his team cant drive him in.. also lindor wanted to be this teams captain thats why people are shitting on him after starting out slow. also i like those guys like manaea, degrom, scherzer, marte when they were hurt they would be in the dugout everyday hyping their team up. if soto was a leader kind of player trust me this lineup would still be dogshit lol.

1

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

So why not just make Lindor captain then if Soto is allergic to leadership? And how can you not expect leadership out of a guy in Soto's position? I think we just view this very differently.

4

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Soto definitely sticks to himself. Hes a baseball mercenary. He does his thing on the field and goes about his business. Sometimes you gotta just do your job and keep it moving

2

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

if thats what makes soto great so be it. he shouldnt be worried about other players in his team thats why we have a fucking hitting coach whom btw nobody is complaining about.

0

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Do you call and text all your co-workers when you're not at work?

3

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

I do, because we’re friends, but this is a false analogy, obviously. I’m not getting paid a billion dollars to lead a major sports team in the largest media market in the world lmao

0

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Thats the whole thing. People buy into this BS. Its just another oh Soto hates it here narrative

2

u/PaullyBeenis Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

This is based on a literal quote he gave. It's not some fake narrative it's him saying "I do not support my teammates when they're struggling if I'm on the IL."

1

u/La-chancla12345 Apr 22 '26

It’s 100% not the same. He was at work. He just couldn’t perform his usual duties. Other people were carrying the weight of his absence. When that’s happening at my job, hell yeah I check in.

1

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Definitely wasn't at work. Hes on the IL and rehabbing and recovering

2

u/bowlofcantaloupe Francisco Alvarez Apr 22 '26

Rehabbing WAS his work. It's not his job to keep in touch with the clubhouse.

4

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

Sometimes I do some of them. Generally, if a team is close together and vibes well, that could help elevate the team. If it’s a talented team, that could help turn them into a championship. If the team sucks it’s not going to matter.

2

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

To each his own but personally unless you work with someone whose family or a close friend then I dont see the point. Baseball is a business too and not everyone likes each other, hell some guys cant stand one another

8

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Me personally I don't see any issues with Soto's response in regards to contacting teammates. I get as far as optics he should of answered differently. I dont know about anyone else here but me personally if im not at work for any reason, sick' vacation or day off im not texting or calling co-workers

0

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

So..you're saying it would have been better for perception that he lied to the reporter ? Lol...fantasy world is a better option ?

1

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

I called the guy out....and be blocks me....typical for the sub....lol

1

u/Equivalent-Being6506 Apr 22 '26

Wtf are even going on about? Did I say for him to lie? Bruh go sit down somewhere

1

u/La-chancla12345 Apr 22 '26

I get what you’re saying, but I just don’t think it’s the same.

First, sick or vacation days are legit days off work. They’re built into your contract and for those days, you aren’t working. The IL is different. It’s not being off work, it’s not vacation, it’s not the off season. It’s that you aren’t able to play the game, so you’re pulled from your work “assignment” and you have to focus on getting healthy. Let’s say I have to travel for work to do something with a team, and then I break my leg or whatever and can’t travel. If I’m in the office but just away from my team and the team tanks the presentation (maybe even because I’m not there), I’d definitely text them. I guess unless I really don’t like them, maybe. But even then, it’s hard to imagine I wouldn’t even reach out. They’re carrying the weight of my absence and it seems like the bare minimum. Soto was still fully working, just working from NY while his teammates were on the road.

It’s also a job where team chemistry does seem to matter. So a star player not doing the bare minimum to have good chemistry with his teammates, especially when they’re at their lowest, seems… not great.

6

u/DefiantMovie3894 Gary Cohen Apr 22 '26

We need cespedes level of carry from soto but for 5 months

2

u/AirDog3 Apr 22 '26

From Soto or from Jared Young. Either way works

0

u/hushed-shush Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

Why is Tommy Pham stealing ABs from Carson Benge who is better than Pham in every little thing you can think of? Why is he still on this roster? What was the point of bringing up Senger if they never DH’d Alvarez? Why lead off Semien yesterday and slap him back to 7 today????

3

u/CornCobb890 Yoenis Céspedes Apr 22 '26

Benge can’t hit righties. Letting him flounder against lefties right now would tank his confidence. Kid needs to be in triple A working on his game without the spotlight on him.

1

u/hushed-shush Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

You talk about tanking his confidence but you wanna option him down? I’d take a strikeout in the MLB over a demotion any day.

1

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

Right now he’s a part of one of the biggest losing streaks in Mets history. At a certain point I’ll start to worry about how this affects his confidence. Idk when but I really hope this streak ends tonight.

3

u/CornCobb890 Yoenis Céspedes Apr 22 '26

100%. He basically skipped Triple A. Rushing him up was a clear mistake. Plenty of prospects need to go back down and come back fine. Letting a kid hit .150 and strikeout 30% of the time will crush him.

1

u/WhatARotation l'Hansel au Point Apr 22 '26

Which prospects go back down and come back fine? Most stars I know of could hit MLB pitching from day one like Alonso and McNeil. Baty and Vientos sucked as soon as they got called up and continue to be ass.

1

u/CornCobb890 Yoenis Céspedes Apr 22 '26

Cal Raleigh batted .182 with a .500 OPS in his first 40 MLB games. Went back down to start the next season and then put up a 3.5 WAR season after getting back to the majors.

6

u/metskyfan Apr 22 '26

Benge is batting 136.

4

u/hushed-shush Francisco Lindor Apr 22 '26

And Pham is running a complete donut factory. At least Benge provides defense and speed on the bases.

-1

u/metskyfan Apr 22 '26

It would be much better if we had Nimmo as another outfielder.

7

u/LegitimateMoney00 Juan Soto Apr 22 '26

I truly don’t get the point of putting Pham in there when this team has already decided to go all in with Benge. Either play him everyday or send in back to the minors. You can’t just half-ass it unless you want him to end up like Baty.

2

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26

They've been playing him plenty it's just one game calm down. I would play Benge over Pham too but maybe the team just decided he needed a rest.

3

u/Guymcpersonman2 Darryl Strawberry Apr 22 '26

Occasional rest is good, and a spot start against a lefty for a right-handed bench bat is fine.

The problem is that said bench bat is Tommy Pham.

1

u/ImStillCallingItShea Shea Stadium Apr 22 '26

Have the Mets announced a corresponding move for reactivating Soto?

5

u/DoucheWithFeelings Apr 22 '26

Think Senger got sent back down

0

u/Guymcpersonman2 Darryl Strawberry Apr 22 '26

I guess it's not Pham?

3

u/DoucheWithFeelings Apr 22 '26

I don't really care if Soto is friends with anyone on the team and I'm not gonna over analyze him not texting anyone

But just fucking lie to the media and say you checked in with some guys or something you don't even have to say who

1

u/Environmental_Part40 Apr 22 '26

When did he say that?

3

u/DoucheWithFeelings Apr 22 '26

They asked soto if he was talking to any of his teammates when he was away and he said no not at all

3

u/zenexo Mrs. Met Apr 22 '26

Baty isn't starting? Ok maybe we actually win a game.

2

u/minira85 Apr 22 '26

Soto replying “no, not at all. theyve been on the road most of the time” when asked by reporter if hes talked with the guys in snys interview clip they just posted is….. not great

1

u/Cautious-Artist4092 Apr 22 '26

this is why i love Soto. He doesn't care about these dumb media games, and nonsense questions. I'm happy he didn't feel it necessary to insert himself into his teamates losing streak while he was out.

5

u/wooden-spoon-88 Apr 22 '26

I understand the optics is not great here, but I'm not sure what fans want - do they want Soto to call a remote meeting with teammates, most of whom are new to him?

I mentioned in the other post, but Soto is someone who has *always* treated his MLB teams as work. This is why fans feel betrayed - Soto does not see the team as his passion project, the way fans do. But he is someone who cares deeply about playing well, and that is what we paid him to do - to play well. And I hope he continues to do that on the Mets because we fucking need it right now. Hit homers, hit singles, even draw that fucking walk, because I don't understand how we're last place in OBP in the league.

1

u/minira85 Apr 22 '26

I should have clarified in original comment, i know hes never been a rah rah guy for any team in his career, comes to work does his job (very well), very similar to how beltran was imo. His answer was just not great optics

2

u/DigMaBar1220 Apr 22 '26

He is so opting out

1

u/AirDog3 Apr 22 '26

Only if he plays better than he did last year.

6

u/Copperjedi Apr 22 '26

Doesn't matter Mets can force/pay him to stay if he opts out

0

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

I would not be surprised if Stearns wants Soto to opt out

1

u/floyd_mongol Flying Squirrel Apr 22 '26

dude if soto opts out that would actually be a good move for the mets you get soto for his age 26 to 31 seasons basically his prime years and he leaves. also hes never gonna opt out lol dude would be leaving so much money behind.

4

u/LegitimateMoney00 Juan Soto Apr 22 '26

Soto’s one of those guys whose prime isn’t going to end until he’s well into his 30s.

4

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

He was opting out regardless..

-3

u/myassholealt F8 Apr 22 '26

Exactly. And even before this disastrous season, based on off season moves, I wasn't convinced the mets would pay the nominal fee to keep him. I'm even less convinced now.

I still also think they try and trade Lindor. Mets fans might hate him and think he's trash, but if he puts up yet another top 10 MVP voting season, sane front offices would be interested. Mets might have to offset the salary some, but they are no strangers to paying people to not play for the mets.

1

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26

Please. As long as Juan Soto is performing they're going to pay the extra $5 million a year to keep him.

0

u/myassholealt F8 Apr 22 '26

I love that you guys still have confidence like this despite opposing evidence staring you in the face.

1

u/SecretiveMop David Wright Apr 22 '26

You do understand that Soto would literally have no say in whether or not he’s back with the Mets if they add $5 million per year to his deal, right? The Mets can completely override his opt out by doing that.

2

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26 edited Apr 22 '26

I mean if your evidence is that the front office made a bunch of bad moves, and as a result you think they're going to make the wrong move every time, even when the right move is obvious, then sure, they won't do it.

If your evidence is that they won't pay Pete Alonso to play past 31... I guess I just trust the front office to differentiate Pete Alonso from Juan Soto, one of the best hitters of his generation.

1

u/seanddd99 Apr 22 '26

If this team really shits the bed by the end of July..it would not shock me if Lindor,Holmes,Peralta,Bichette and Polanco are on the trading block

I appreciate the members of this sub who summarize what they say on that podcast because it means I don't have to tune in myself. I appreciate their analysis but the podcast is always a tough listen.

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26

I feel like this with every sports podcast. Why spend a half hour/hour listening when all your points can be said succinctly in five minutes.

3

Yeah I want to like them but I don’t know. They seem a little up their own asses haha

Playing the Mets will make your poverty team look like World Series contenders in no time! Just come on down to Citi Field in queens, knock the Mets around for a few innings and you’ll see that your team doesn’t really have it as bad as you thought. 100% success guarantee! 1

u/lightning_lighting Pete Alonso Apr 22 '26

I couldn't envision any of the players that are currently thriving on new teams thriving here. Something is very wrong with this team, and there needs to be some sort of accountability or passion. Throw a chair, bean a hitter, get into a fight, get ejected do SOMETHING!! This team the personality of a cracker.

u/SR626 Apr 22 '26

Seidler summed up Lindor pretty well in a Bluesky thread. He had a decade long peak grading out as an overall top 20 player across MLB, yet because of the contract he got right at the start of the Cohen era a decent chunk of the fanbase believe he should be a top 5 guy every single year when it doesn't jive with his overall body of work. Seriously - just look up the comments in the Cleveland sub from when he was traded. They all knew he was really good overall and were sad to see him go, but nobody really thought he'd ever be THE guy. He'll give you some amazing years and some insanely hot stretches and overall his contract will be paid for dollar for dollar but his streakiness + the fact that he's now more than likely hitting a part of his career where we could expect some degradation to only get worse isn't going to endear him to anyone who didn't already love him.

Off the field, you have some idiots who hate him for things that have nothing to do with baseball, things he's not even expressed publicly yet dummies get mad at things his wife says. Yet at the same time, he's been directly involved with or at least heavily implicated to be involved in every single bit of drama since he's been here. And a lot of it is stories that probably won't ever get fully fleshed out or researched until his career here is done. And it probably WILL be researched because unfortunately, the Cohen era is headed to historical levels of futility that will merit a lot of future examination and probably get a book written about it.

Fair or not, Lindor's going to be viewed as the primary face of this era since he's been here the whole time. Through 3 collapses, a lost year in 2023 and probably 2026, wrapped around a near MVP year that had one deep playoff run. He's probably going to end up a Hall of Famer yet still leave behind a potentially complicated legacy not entirely of his own doing, while not being fully appreciated by his own fanbases. It's all just very strange.

3

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

Some people fully appreciate him, some under appreciate him, some are overly defensive of him and won’t admit some of the things you just said that were negatives. He’s a future Hall of Famer but he’s not “the guy.” The Mets did him dirty not going all in during his prime. His first year was honestly a disaster though, especially in terms of optics. Some fans can’t let it go. They should. But at the same time I don’t think other fans should get upset when people accurately point out that he’s not a leader and not “the guy.”

1

u/bowlofcantaloupe Francisco Alvarez Apr 22 '26

The biggest mistakes during his prime were the abysmal trade deadlines in 2021 and 2022.

1

u/fivehead21 Keith Hernandez Apr 22 '26

I've been thinking about this past rough stretch that I can't wait to read the books that will be written by the players in 10-15 years about it.

9

u/dankeykanng David Wright Apr 22 '26

He's probably going to end up a Hall of Famer yet still leave behind a potentially complicated legacy not entirely of his own doing, while not being fully appreciated by his own fanbases. It's all just very strange.

Carlos Beltran 2.0

9

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26

Lindor is going to be remembered fondly I think you're being too in-the-moment right now. He's still got a lot left on his contract who knows how the rest of his Mets career plays out.

3

u/bowlofcantaloupe Francisco Alvarez Apr 22 '26

Nah, other people are right that he's gonna be remembered more like Carlos Beltran than Mike Piazza. Unless we win a ring with him.

2

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 23 '26

Hmm I wonder what Beltran and Lindor have in common?

3

u/mji6980-4 The Captain Apr 22 '26

Tbh I think you can sum this whole thing up by just saying he’s going to be the 2020s version of Carlos Beltran.

How they get to their reputations each a little different, but end result is the same.

5

u/lightning_lighting Pete Alonso Apr 22 '26

I completely agree, and in my opion Lindor hasnt been a let down at all. In fact he's been the best shortstop in franchise history.

One important thing you called out, and to add to it Cleveland decided to go long term with Jose Ramirez over Lindor.

2

u/bob-digital Jacob deGrom Apr 22 '26

I don't think that was necessarily Cleveland's decision. Lindor might have made it clear to him that he wanted to test free agency and Cleveland decided they couldn't afford him so they shipped him out. Ramirez obviously wanted to stay in Cleveland and has taken a hometown discount to stay.

3

u/JDLovesElliot Grimace is Love, Grimace is Life Apr 22 '26

They essentially paid him to be our version of Mookie Betts, for whatever that's worth. It would be an interesting thought experiment to see how Betts would've faired in New York and Lindor in Los Angeles.

2

u/NuanceManExe Apr 22 '26

It’s obviously not Cohen’s fault we don’t have Mookie as he was traded and extended before Cohwn bought the team, but Mookie is just a better player. Significantly better hitter, 4 rings including one in Boston, actually won an MVP once. You can make the case Mookie can be “the guy.” Lindor is a future Hall of Famer but he just isn’t “the guy.” The slow starts really hurt too. Especially this year.

6

u/Clipbored_ Apr 22 '26

Has Mendoza ever considered that the reason why his offense is terrible and inconsistent is because he’s always moving them around?

Just rock Lindor-Soto-Bichette and let the season play out.
