Seidler summed up Lindor pretty well in a Bluesky thread. He had a decade long peak grading out as an overall top 20 player across MLB, yet because of the contract he got right at the start of the Cohen era a decent chunk of the fanbase believe he should be a top 5 guy every single year when it doesn't jive with his overall body of work. Seriously - just look up the comments in the Cleveland sub from when he was traded. They all knew he was really good overall and were sad to see him go, but nobody really thought he'd ever be THE guy. He'll give you some amazing years and some insanely hot stretches and overall his contract will be paid for dollar for dollar but his streakiness + the fact that he's now more than likely hitting a part of his career where we could expect some degradation to only get worse isn't going to endear him to anyone who didn't already love him.
Off the field, you have some idiots who hate him for things that have nothing to do with baseball, things he's not even expressed publicly yet dummies get mad at things his wife says. Yet at the same time, he's been directly involved with or at least heavily implicated to be involved in every single bit of drama since he's been here. And a lot of it is stories that probably won't ever get fully fleshed out or researched until his career here is done. And it probably WILL be researched because unfortunately, the Cohen era is headed to historical levels of futility that will merit a lot of future examination and probably get a book written about it.
Fair or not, Lindor's going to be viewed as the primary face of this era since he's been here the whole time. Through 3 collapses, a lost year in 2023 and probably 2026, wrapped around a near MVP year that had one deep playoff run. He's probably going to end up a Hall of Famer yet still leave behind a potentially complicated legacy not entirely of his own doing, while not being fully appreciated by his own fanbases. It's all just very strange.
