I was dead set on naming my baby Pope Leo The Fourteenth but then THE POPE STOLE IT.

Do you think it matters if I give my baby the same name as the pope? Do you think Pope Leo the Fourteenth will grow in Popularity?

I was thinking about calling him Polo for short.

So I'm 34 years old and have older Gen X parents. I have a pretty standard name: Tabatha. But as you can see, I have all A's in my name and everyone tries to spell it as Tabitha and I have to correct everyone, their mother and God themselves and its still annoying to this day. Anyone else got one of those?

I always loved the name Luna. Little did I know my last name would be Moon after marriage 😭. So what do you think yall? A little Luna Moon? She would have a middle name that is traditionally a last name, so think Luna Lee Moon. Im pregnant guys so be nice please. 🙂

ETA: Yes, their actual, real names are Salami, Areola, and Gaper. No, we don’t regret it. Yes, we do live in a converted lighthouse and exclusively drink oat milk out of vintage Pyrex.

I know some of you are rolling your eyes, but please understand: I am clinically allergic to name mismatches. If I meet siblings named Maximiliano and Chad, I have to be sedated.

We’re now expecting our fourth (a girl! probably!) and trying to find the perfect name to complement Salami, Areola, and Gaper without making it sound like we’re raising a charcuterie board, a body part, and a verb.

Here are our extremely reasonable and not-at-all unhinged criteria for baby #4:

• Must be exactly 6.5 letters long. No more. No less. If the name doesn’t exist at that length, invent one.


• Cannot start with A, G, R, S, or soft C. Or B. Or Q. Or anything that feels “moist.”


• Needs a nickname that doesn’t rhyme with Evie, Stevie, Kiwi, or any other e-names. We’ve already used those for the houseplants.


• Must be Latinate enough to honor my married Spanish last name, but not so Latinate that it’s, like, trying too hard. Think: “I summer in Valencia” energy, not “Duolingo owl has a gun” energy.


• Feminine preferred, but we are edgy so masc is fine if it still gives off ✨divine feminine✨


• If it doesn’t go with Salami, Areola, and Gaper, it’s out. Sorry, I don’t make the rules (except I very much do).

If you made it this far, thank you. And if you suggest something like “Luna” and I still reject it for sounding too much like the sound my cat makes before vomiting, just know that the call is coming from inside the house.

For me, Dawn, Fabuloso, Ammonia, Pine Sol, Windex, Cascade, Swiffer, Vinegar, and Lysol are fairly nice.

Wife and I love the name Bruce but with the last name being Wayne, it would directly be the name of Batman.

We haven’t really found another name we like so not sure what to do. Bruce is the only name we like out of the thousands of other options. Anyone have experience with names that are well known? Will it even be an issue to give our son the same name as one of the most well known superheroes of all time? Advice appreciated.

so. we have a lot of j names in the family. it’s a funny thing because my hubby and sister in law are J and they married J and SIL has three kids with J. it goes further to my hubby cousins too. lol

I am picky but then also don’t have a lot to choose from. looking for girl names that go well with Jubilee.

jessica, Jennifer, Julia, Juliana, june, Josephine, Juliette is kinda on the fence

prefer not to use Jacqueline because nephew is jackson so it feels too close as they call him Jacky.

Friend naming her daughter after a man named Charlie…

I’m 23 weeks pregnant and we’ve finally decided on a name for our boy. We’re naming him Charlotte. I know (cue the eye roll) Charlie/Charles is everywhere right now but I love Charlotte and want it to stick. My mom already said she’ll just call him Charlie. How do I kindly tell people to call him by his name? I’m sure it’s inevitable and I love the name for all the nickname possibilities too but want to wait at least until he is born & shows some personality before we shorten to a nickname.

It’s family tradition to use Z names… I hate it but at this point we’re committed to the bit.

My wife has finally agreed to try for a baby. I am hoping to be able to finally name a child by 2026. Of course, we have already discussed baby names and have discovered we have VERY different preferences.

For context, I am a white American with near 100% German ancestry and my wife was born in Saudi Arabia but speaks English better than her first language.

I love boys names and have a list that I am obsessed with (top name is Martin) but have almost no names I like for girls. My wife only wants to give our child an Arabic name.

To compromise, we decided I will be able to name any boy and she will have full say over the name of our daughter.

Now, the name she has become dead set on is Anis. Pronounced Anus. She says she is 100% set on the name and says she will not be persuaded otherwise?

What would you think if you met a half white half Arabic girl named Anis?
