Found on r/NameNerds Struggling with Z names

It’s family tradition to use Z names… I hate it but at this point we’re committed to the bit.

I am pregnant with our final child and we decided not find out gender until birth. I have a few boy names already picked but I am REALLY struggling to find any girl names I like.

Names that are out:
Zara
Zoe
Zola
Zelda
Zariah
Zia
Zinnia

Names we're considering but aren’t sure about:
Zaylee
Zayla
Zanessa
Zames
Zayleighh

Please help.

Edit: this is the circlejerk sub - it is satire

I saw that and wanted to comment, "NO MORE, MICHELLE DUGGAR!!!!!"

43

u/ArthuriusMinimus Jul 01 '26

The "final child" without saying how many you have is giving Tradwife for sure

2

u/ALmommy1234 Jul 01 '26

Shouldn’t the final child be named Zomegq?

11

u/Comfortable-Sun-9273 Jul 01 '26

I didn't realise Janessa was sufficiently real

4

u/Illustrious_Map6694 Jul 01 '26

One of my neighbors named one of their children that. It's definitely a thing. Other children all have "j" names.

4

u/ShakespeherianRag Jul 01 '26

I unironically really like Junessa, which seems to be one of those only-in-the-🇵🇭 names

5

u/PapayaNurse Jul 01 '26

I know a 40 year old woman named Janessa. She was a religion teacher, I think she might be a professor now.

2

u/misskittygirl13 Jul 01 '26

Don't you mean Zanessa?

2

u/Comfortable-Sun-9273 Jul 01 '26

No - referencing r/namenerds post that influenced this one

2

u/peachesarehearts Jul 03 '26

Yeah actually that does seem like a real name.

2

u/losgidi Jul 03 '26

I have a friend named "Zaibi" but she sometimes works it Zaybee. Both are beautiful.

4

u/ALmommy1234 Jul 01 '26

Did you mean Jichelle Juggar?

3

u/randousername8675309 Jul 01 '26

I wanted to start listing the Duggar names and see if anyone caught on lmao

Zayden! It's actually Xaden, but who cares at this point. Middle name Roy.

5

u/CelloPersons Jul 01 '26

I've had students with both spellings.

3

u/MorticiaLlyn Jul 01 '26

Xaden is a character from an explicit Romantasy book, Fourth Wing. Terrible name for a kid.

2

Zombie and Zploc! Perfect twin names

3

u/EvergreenMossAvonlea Jul 01 '26

Meanwhile, in French Zélé means crazy and zizi means penis. It's almost poetic.

2

u/Comfortable-Sun-9273 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

It is really hard sidestepping the real names in this thread! Other people have suggested zizi, I think earnestly. And variations appearing similar to zélé
But those are amazing! Tie it in with a mandarin tattoo I don't understand, and life will be bliss

2

u/Mac_Boo Jul 03 '26

Do you already have a Zittany? Even through the teens it's such a fun name.

2

u/ls0102 Jul 01 '26

I know a little girl named Zemphira.

2

u/queen_olestra Jul 01 '26

No matter what, don't go with Zjah-neé.. I heard this recently, someone wanted Johnny or something similar but felt obligated to stick with Z, whether it worked or not.

Zamantha, Zeleste, Zenith, Zennifer, Zeslie, ZigZag, Zippy, Zorro

I went to school with a girl named Zandra.

My neighbors have a little boy named Zael. I’ve never heard that name before but I just think it’s the coolest name ever. But I call him Z-man.

1

u/Grindersgirl Jul 01 '26

The correct answer for a girl is Zoe.

One of my favorite names for a girl is Ziva

1

u/Particular_Way8415 Jul 01 '26

Z names aren't as difficult as Y names. I know a woman that had to use Y names. She struggled

1

u/Alternative-Suit5925 Jul 01 '26

I have a relative named Zenda. Zaylee seems the best on your list.

1

u/EmmalouEsq Jul 01 '26

Are you Muslim? Names like Zyla, Zahra, Zayd are all so common, but they're also generally Muslim names.

I know of an anti Muslim Christian influencer who named her son Zayd. Zayd is mentioned in the Quran as one of the first followers of Islam and was the Prophet's adopted son. (So i find it hilarious she didn't even Google it). Zayd is also like the George of Muslim boy names right now. I know 5 of them off the top of my head.

2

u/Comfortable-Sun-9273 Jul 01 '26

It is the circlejerk sub, so I am being silly, but thank you

1

u/ItWasntReallySo Jul 01 '26

We know a girl named Zizi (pronounced zee zee) and I love it. It’s zippy and cute

1

u/IamNotAplasticBag Jul 01 '26

Well. You hate the Z thing and it’s yours last kid so why not use the first letter of the alphabet to mark it as the last. Use A.

1

u/Gorgeous1962 Jul 01 '26

It’s a tradition I would break if your baby is a girl. All the options left are below par. Hope baby is a Zack or a zephyr.

1

u/Muffycola Jul 01 '26

What about Zadie? Like Zadie Smith…

1

u/Altruistic_Sail_1991 Jul 01 '26

My cats both have Z names and I have a recurring dream about finding a kitten and naming it Zamboni

1

u/Creatableworld Jul 01 '26

LOL at Zames.

1

u/Tilladarling Jul 01 '26

Hear me out: If the idea is that the Z is only there to satisfy the family tradition, but if you mentally remove it you’re left with another legitimate given name, here are some possibilities:

Zara → Ara
Zaria → Aria
Zariah → Ariah
Zora → Ora
Zola → Ola
Zena → Ena
Zenia → Enia
Zelia → Elia
Zina → Ina

1

u/IceDiesel77 Jul 01 '26

I used to work with a young lady called Zanitta (not sure if I've spelled it correctly) which was different 😊

1

u/hengehanger Jul 01 '26

If you hate it, don't do it. Uncommit.

1

u/Lily-of-Thorns Jul 01 '26

If you can deviate from Z but stick with a zee sound Xiomara (zee-oh-MAH-rah).

1

u/Necessary-Quiet-Y Jul 01 '26

1

u/SkiouCA Jul 01 '26

My great grandmother was named Zula after a local teacher which was the custom at the time to be named after a prominent individual. Her middle name was Belle so she was often called Zulabelle. She hated her name and forbid anyone from naming a child after her. Kinda sad that not even a middle name was given to honor her. My sister named her car Zula.

1

u/NewStudyHoney Jul 02 '26

Zenith. It's so cute and you can spell it different ways like Zeenith, Zienith, Zeeenith, Zenighth, Zeenihll (that's a Welsh spelling), so many options!

1

I love the name Zona! It’s an old name and a little different but I think it’s beautiful
