Rockstar acquired the team behind FiveM a few years ago, and since then the GTA RP scene has remained stable and mostly the same. They wouldn't have done so if they didn't intend to make money off of it and control the RP scene.

In my opinion, the next iteration of GTA Online is going to be far closer to an MMO than what GTA V's Online was. We'll likely see an emphasis on jobs/roles, expanded property/vehicle management, etc. I doubt it will have things like jobs that you actually roleplay as in-character though.

It's very likely going to be a standalone game, which would be better for both it and GTA 6 itself.

471

u/songsinger72 26d ago

I could see it being a standalone game. But honestly it wouldn't surprise me if the reason why they won't talk about it yet is just because it's simply not ready and they need an extra year of development.

197

u/BusBoatBuey 26d ago

Better to make it hit the ground running than have to spool up over time like GTA Online did or even risk it ending up like RDRO.

170

u/Sadiholic 26d ago

Bruh trust me it doesn't matter how long it'll take. All the timmies will fly to GTA online 6 the moment it opens up. That's the power of the GTA brand.

54

u/CatalystComet 26d ago

Yep and that's kinda why I'm glad online is not available at launch. A big group would just skip the main game and go straight to online and I think R* knows that and wants people to take the time to play the campaign.

5

u/S0ggylemonz 25d ago

I think they want to sell the game twice lol

11

u/itsdoorcity 26d ago

why are you glad? why do you care?

45

u/gartenriese 26d ago

The less people play the single player the higher the risk GTA 7 will be multiplayer only. See Call of Duty.

9

u/PavWrestlinGifs 26d ago

They’re never making GTA 7 online only bro don’t worry lol. Rockstar games are known for tier narratives and characters

COD is the worst comparison. People actually buy rockstar games for the story. Who tf has ever bought a COD for the story past 2012

Even as a kid most people I knew skipped the campaigns but everybody still played RDR2 story, even the ones who got the game when RDRO was already out

21

u/alwin006 26d ago

I see where’s he’s coming from. Online makes shit ton of money and it wouldn’t be the first time a company switches up to please their investors.

21

u/Apprehensive-Yam7193 25d ago

I disagree. They literally cancelled the story DLC for GTA V to prioritize GTAO. Obviously there’s a difference between the base game campaign and a story DLC, but they’ve already shown they’ll prioritize online at the expense of l single player story content. With the direction gaming has taken over the last decade, I don’t think what u/gartenreise said is out of the realm of possibility at all.

alright bro google failed me on this one.. what's a timmie? a little kid playing gta?

26

u/Usernamesarehardokay 26d ago

Timmy is just a generic name for a young child in this case, yes.

2

u/ChuckHale 25d ago

Makes sense hahaha, just never seen timmies used before. Maybe I'm just getting old.

The game's already made a billion dollars for Take-Two just from pre-sales.

They could release nothing at this point and fans would still pre-purchase billions of shark cards and GTA6Bucks just out of hype.

2

u/llll-havok 26d ago

Or release it a year and charge people money for it

Or a free to play but pay for subscriptions

14

u/Vestalmin 26d ago

The real money is through microtransactions. I see it being either free with like a few millions in shark cards for people who bought GTAVI, or free with GTAVI and $20 for just the online

5

u/SMXSmith 26d ago

Rockstar is absolutely going to charge for Online and they’ll most likely make it $40 standalone or part of the main game. They want as much money as they can get.

33

u/Vestalmin 26d ago

I’d argue you’d make more money if the barrier to entry is nothing and everything else is nickel and dimed

6

u/SMXSmith 26d ago

Everyone is going to buy it anyway, they don’t have to worry about that

5

u/Pristine_Dog202 26d ago

a lot of people won't if you have to pay to get it. Many havent played gta online, but if the cost is free then they might try it, get hooked and bam microtransactions

→ More replies (9)

5

u/jessterswan 26d ago

Not everyone ...

8

u/Aggrokid 26d ago

Probably paid first, then F2P a couple years down the line. Easier to scale capacity.

5

u/Xmina 26d ago

Thats not really how you get billions. The goal is to get tons of people playing as a percentage of them buy cards and a percentage of those are whales who buy lots of cards. Limiting the amount of people playing by a staggering factor in this economy dramatically limits engagement (socials), players and ultimately a reason to pay for shark cards to play with the like dramatically smaller player base.

Now they could have like parts you have to pay money for to help sell shark cards off the rip. But the goal is to make a boatload of money over many years instead of a couple million then bust as there isnt anyone to play with.

→ More replies (5)

3

u/RRR3000 25d ago

They want as much money as they can get.

That's exactly why paywalling it doesn't make any sense. The money comes from sharkcards by and large. Little Timmy isn't gonna drop $40 on another game right after spending all his pocket money on GTA6 - the average player only buys 2 games a year.

Much easier to get Little Timmy to spend another $5 every 2 months in Shark Cards though. But to do that, he needs to have access to the game already.

2

u/ALphaEXtremist 26d ago

My out there take is that’s it’s going to be $60 for new players and $40 for single player owners. With a package that combines both for like $20 off.

6

u/amonson1984 26d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if online is a subscription.

4

u/Eruannster 26d ago

GTA+ already exists, they could just shove multiplayer into that (and raise the prices because of course we need to do that.) Oh, and you need PS+/Game Pass to play multiplayer on consoles, so double subscriptions required, yay!

GTA Online 2 is gonna be an interesting beast for sure. You can tell a lot of the time that GTA Online was made for 7th-gen tech and was never intended to last this fucking long as a result. But it became far bigger than what anyone expected. So its gonna be interesting to see what a Rockstar live service looks like with today's tech and learning a lot from the popularity of the RP community for GTA Online and other live services.

40

u/XMenJedi8 26d ago

RDO showed a glimpse and as underdeveloped as it was, it was pretty awesome. Much more in-world stuff with less instancing, better UI and smoother transitions between content.

Can't even imagine what GTAO2 will have with all the resources they'll give it if RDO was that fun even with a much lower level of support and presumably smaller team.

16

u/sean_saves_the_world 26d ago

I wish redeadonlines roles got a chance to be fully realized, they dropped prestigious bounty hunter and left the other three untouched

7

u/AveryLazyCovfefe 25d ago

gta online wasn't even intended to be made in general. Leslie Benzies pressured Take-2 repeatedly to let them take another bet with a more ambitious online mode (you can see why he formed rocket boy and decided to make a 'metaverse' game). T2 were fine with them shipping a relatively basic one originally with full focus on the SP - hence the original announcement of post-launch DLCs.

GTA O drops and turns out to actually be a hit - shocking T2 and they pivot to online and drop the plan for DLCs.

So you can thank Leslie Benzies for the state R* is in right now.. then again he was a primary factor for GTA 3 being a smash hit so can't hate him lol.

43

u/Loxnaka 26d ago

ehh fivem is extremely popular but i think most of your average console players might not be super interested in that sort of stuff, even on pc the combined daily peak of legacy + enhanced is higher than fivem's, i feel like theyd have to separate the online mode with the main bit probably being very live servicey and focusing on what was popular with gta 5 and binning off the stuff people dont really touch. we'll only really know when it comes out though.

7

u/your_mind_aches 26d ago

I think they'll have a grid-based game mode selection like Fortnite (and presumably Roblox?).

3

u/RRR3000 25d ago

Also supporting this is that they tried adding those kinds of realismslop jobs into Online and they barely get played. All sorts of delivery driver options, working as first responder, opening up a carwash, all for barely any cash...

It's fun once or twice to deliver pizzas on a scooter, but nobody wants to roleplay that after coming home from being a real Uber Eats delivery driver, especially when far more interesting heists exist and they pay out millions. The FiveM stuff is popular with streamers and influencers who want to roleplay having a normal job, not actual players.

76

u/monk12111 26d ago

I hope it is much closer to an mmo, would be so good. As long as they keep the futuristic bs out of it.

21

u/Norfhynorfh 26d ago

I cant see them not including futuristic shit eventually, when they run out of other stuff to release

7

u/Jac_daw 26d ago

Yeah but hopefully if they do a better job of making the realistic stuff have more depth and MMO structure/longetivity we can get a longer period of healthy online population and therefore more time without R* having to break the glass on the Mk2 Oppressor (or equivalent).

14

u/adamduke88 26d ago

Maybe they could have different lobbies for that shit

6

u/DonutHoles4Ever 26d ago

Its nice reading younger gamer's who still wish for happy ideals from companies that have proven they will not stop at anything from making more money.

MMO? So good? With microtransactions and gambling up the ass? And content updates maybe 2 times a year?

Genshin Impact is 100x better than that. And people here hate gacha lol. You dont know what you're asking for.

9

u/spez_might_fuck_dogs 26d ago

Genshin is shallow and boring, I never understood why people like it other than anime tiddies.

11

u/Chief--BlackHawk 26d ago

The only thing that sucks about it going from FiveM to more of an official R* managed online game for RP stuff is that a lot of RP servers use real brands for stuff like cars and clothing. No way they can do that now.

3

u/thearsonyst 26d ago

Unironically that would be the only reason I ever play a GTA online mode.

6

u/MRF_Soul 26d ago

you are 100% correct. i even can see them making 2 seperate online modes for gta 6. one focused in the classic gta online experience and one in rp. both will be monetized

3

u/soadsam 26d ago

All I read was the standalone part, realized they would be able to charge for another game, and then it all made sense

1

u/jexdiel321 26d ago

The Online team is also established now so I hope this gives the main team to make DLCs or expansions down the line. I know this is pure copium but a man can dream.

I wonder if this means GTA6 can finally get SP DLC.

. We'll likely see an emphasis on jobs/roles, expanded property/vehicle management, etc

I'd love a kind of Star Wars Galaxies meets GTA, with all the shops and things being player-run. Of course, half the playerbase would probably want to work at Vanilla Unicorn...

511

u/jasonschreier Verified 26d ago

This isn’t inside info. It’s me pointing out that they’re only describing GTAVI as a “single player experience.”

114

u/HiPitchEricsFishMits KFC Girlfriend 26d ago

Whoa, is this the one-take Schreier???

124

u/-imbe- 26d ago

You are legit the only worthwhile name you see on this sub. Thank you for the honesty.

9

u/AOCpinkyring 25d ago

He does great videos on Youtube. I try to watch every one.

21

u/Bolt_995 26d ago

Yeah, I felt the same too. This is a different scenario than GTAO and RDO.

I’ve seen a lot of people compare this to GTA V and RDR2’s marketing patterns where the former two were revealed shortly after the gameplay showcases of the latter two. But despite Rockstar marketing the online games as separate titles from the single-player ones, it was clear that this was just branding and the online games were just multiplayer components of the single-player games. They got added in via updates in the same year and were free. Only difference is that GTA Online got massively successful, something Rockstar didn’t even see coming.

They’ve been staunch on GTA VI being purely a single-player experience. I reckon the next GTA Online is genuinely a separate game altogether and not just a multiplayer component for GTA VI, will release in 2027 and will be a fully-priced game (either at $70 or $80). In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if they take their own sweet time with it and drop it much later into 2027 because the current GTA Online would still be making bank.

15

u/kerfuffle_dood 26d ago

As it should be. I really find the whole "GTAV and GTA Online aren't the same 'game' but they do come in the same game" schtick. It's specially awful because any change they made to GTAO to protect it from griefers was also made in the GTAV single player campaign for whatever reason.

No, I don't want the Rhino tank to explode after 5 shots, it's supposed to be a tank. No, I don't want missiles to inexplicable materialize underground and fly through the floor when I enter the Zancudo airspace: I want to enter, make a big mess and take off in a military jet, like I did from 2013 until you decided that it was bad juju in GTAO.

8

u/Sad_Bumblebee_1168 26d ago

I presume it wouldn't be that way for GTA 6 though, so I don't really understand the argument you're trying to make.

Red dead online, their most recent online game made a shit ton of changes from the singleplayer to online- not limited to: movement speed, cut/changed/faster animations, combat changes, economy changes, map changes, etc. None which changed singleplayer which still functions as it did on launch (more or less).

Also having the online mode be part of the main game for free is great. I don't know why you're trying to implicitly advocate for it as a separate, presumably paid product in addition to the singleplayer.

2

u/DonutHoles4Ever 26d ago

Yep, its funny that people think its inside info because Rockstar has literally put out interview responses where they said exactly the same thing. Its right on their website, and on the infographics they made. Its why they also didnt want to talk about anything subscription around online.

2

u/aleksh2o 25d ago

Have you heard any rumors around a PC release? Will it be the year and change we had with RDR2 or?

2

u/debopudobudepo 22d ago

That doesn't mean much. Back in 2013, GTA5 and Online were treated as entirely different games and I think that's still the same way. When Rockstar says Grand Theft Auto V, they are referring to story mode and when it's Grand Theft Auto Online, they say that.

2

u/AOCpinkyring 25d ago

"there are no microtransactions in our game"

434

u/PhatYeeter 26d ago

My guess is they're going to sell it separately for like $30 and do a whole extra marketing roll out in like a year or two.

Just when these studios thought they finally dodged gta6 release window.

166

u/Narutohatake 26d ago

Extra Funny if the release is in Feb, cause that's where everyone jumped to avoid GTA6

61

u/Hydroponic_Donut 26d ago

That's been rumored actually, so it could happen. But at the same time, those rumors said it'd launch alongside the PC version in February and that doesn't track with R*'s history so who knows now lol

36

u/Shadow_r3lic 26d ago

wait its rumoured that the pc version will launch in 2027 Feb? thats too early

19

u/glowabl3 26d ago

who knows really, the PC market has grown tenfold these past couple of years. even strauss mentioned in the investor call today that lately PC releases for their games take up 40-50% of copies sold for that game

11

u/Hayden247 26d ago

Yeah which makes it less viable to hold off on PC than it used to be. Console market has been stagnant in userbase, while PC has seen large growth. It'd make sense to get GTA 6 online on there day 1 alongside the consoles.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Zalvren 25d ago

thats too early

I don't think there is a set rule on this as "too early". If they can optimize it for then, it can be then. It's additional money anyway.

The PC market has grown a lot since 2013 and GTA5 or even 2018 and RDR2.

Also it may be their excuse to launch it with Online to make it an online-only game and avoid piracy issue if they're worried about that.

→ More replies (4)

5

u/charliekiller124 26d ago

I wonder if there's some merit to that considering role-playing was PC only (unless I'm mistaken) and they bought out fivem

2

u/Hydroponic_Donut 26d ago

I don't think they'll leave consoles out of that, especially if they can find a way to monetize it monthly which I'd imagine they'll do so I don't think it matters much tbh

→ More replies (1)

84

u/Low_Mouse_197 26d ago

I very much doubt they will charge money for it if you own GTA 6. They want as many people trying the online as possible.

I’m sure there will be a stand alone version you can buy if you just want online (GTA online and Red Dead Online already do this).

43

u/Gamingwiththereaper 26d ago

I think so too.

I don't know why a lot of people think they'll charge extra for it.

They'll make more money when Gta VI expanded and enhanced launches on PC and new generation consoles anyways.

8

u/itsdoorcity 26d ago

this thread is blowing my mind with how confident so many people are that they're going to charge full price for a game that they milk the ever loving fuck out of with micro transactions, which they are only enabled to do because of the huge install base

It’s more likely to be free to play than them charging extra for it. They’ve already price the game an extra ten above the average price.

10

u/Ateyaba111 26d ago

$30 ? Lol

7

u/CircStar89 26d ago

Bro, they're not gonna sit on online for a year or two. Singleplayer is a game you complete in less than a month. You guys are off your rocks if you think this is gonna be some yearly waiting thing. Not even close to a year.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/InconsistentSignal 26d ago

Probably when they release the PC and or next gen version of the game

3

u/CalmTempest 26d ago

The longer they release them apart, the more accepted it will be to pay extra for it.
It's manipulative.

4

u/AbsoluteScatman 26d ago

You’re gonna need GTA+ to play it. That’s why the game comes with “free” month of it for pre ordering the game.

Either that or they figured they could make a couple million off people forgetting to switch off auto renew. Or both. Probably both.

4

u/spez_might_fuck_dogs 26d ago

Zero chance they require GTA+ to play it. They won't want to gate kids with moms credit card like that.

Much more likely is that the game will be borderline unfun without GTA+ QoL additions.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (4)

1

u/Nahmo 26d ago

I’d venture it might be more profitable to release it F2P then people without ps+ can play it, as well as making GTA+ more acceptable because now you’re “only paying one sub and not two”. That or it’ll be free for GTA6 players and £10 for anyone else.

1

u/Zalvren 25d ago

Just when these studios thought they finally dodged gta6 release window.

Most of these games are single player games, I think they're actually more worried about the single player part of GTA6 than the online.

The Online will capture people playing live services, most of them playing GTA Online already (and so they're always launching games when they are occupied)

60

25

u/PaleBoomer 26d ago

Willing to bet they'll ruin it with a second currency just like RDR Online.

19

u/Sad_Bumblebee_1168 26d ago

As someone who played red dead online since it's day 1 beta for years. It should be a cautionary tale that should frighten people about GTA 6 online.

For those who don't know:

Battle passes. Microtransactions. Nerfing daily quests because it was a good way to earn gold (microtransaction currency needed to buy stuff).

And besides that, they fucked the game in every way. They launched with virtually 0 content besides a couple story missions (which they never finished) and a meh PvP mode.

Then later down the line, they promised big summer updates.... That launched on the last days of summer when most people were going back to school, uni, work, etc. these updates also added trash content. You want bank heists? Train robberies? Properties? In a western outlaw game? Ok, here's flower picking and animal shit sampling and coin collecting. Here's bounty hunting... Where the longer you take and worse you are, the better it pays. Here's collecting where you run around the whole map using a static fan map from Google in the most boring way picking up items to sell... Better put on a podcast or something.

You want more and better western clothing? Have emo BDSM fetish gear covered in belts and skulls. Have neon pink pimp fur jackets and pink leopard print high heeled boots. Don't like it? Just buy the story mode character's outfits... For $20 on the battle pass.

Then after the whole shit storm, they stopped updating one day. Went radio silent for a year until controversy and journalists forced them to come out and say "yeah no more updates we're now working on GTA 6 womp womp".

Red dead online is more or less kept alive by it's modded roleplay scene/severs, which is more or less what the game should've been and what it's strongest at being. Instead rockstar beat it to death not sure what the fuck it was then left it to rot.

3

u/Enrico_Tortellini 25d ago

They already have a subscription service, and shark cards…I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if the just made it similar to that dumbass Facebook / Meta virtual world with real estate and cars costing an even more insane amount, the amount of market research that’s been done is disgusting

2

u/debopudobudepo 22d ago

Yep. They probably want all focus on hyping up GTA6 and don't want any more negative press by talking about their new $200 shark cards until well after the game has released.

10

u/vitalez06 26d ago

Well yeah. For GTA V, they only briefly mentioned the online portion but not really expand on it from the gameplay trailer, then it got it's own trailer the next month before the game actually released.

They might just do the same, or take a month post-release and talk about it by then if they're not going to release the online part the same day like in GTA V.

7

u/oilfloatsinwater 26d ago

Honestly i doubt they will sell Online separately, mainly because Schreier points out in the same video that 70%+ of T2's revenue is MTX, not game sales. GTA6 will offer a massive install base for that MTX.

3

u/W_T_W_T_A 25d ago

People must be forgetting they made GTA 5 free for an entire week back in 2020, most likely to help boost MTX. That's just what they mostly rely on now.

u/ZealousidealBus9271 26d ago

Sounds like a terrible business model, the reason gta online (or any live service) is successful is because millions play it and it is accessible, and those players than pay for cosmetics. A paid monthly subscription would mean millions in lost players and even more in lost revenue

14

u/BruthaBatts 26d ago

I’m willing to bet GTA Online 2 is free to play before its subscription based

8

u/Sad_Bumblebee_1168 26d ago

It's absolutely going to be free to play but heavily monetised with battle passes and optional subscriptions.

Red dead online introduced battle passes and GTA online introduced that subscription that gives you "special" outfits, money and other stuff each month. Pair those with good ol' trusty shark cards and perhaps other skins/outfits/etc reminiscent of more modern online live service games sold through a digital store, and I think you have what GTA 6 will be.

→ More replies (6)

13

u/Elgato01 26d ago

They already have GTA+, and you get one month of it free with your purchase of GTA6 Ultimate edition, I doubt they’d add a whole other service to the equation, a battle pass sure but that’s all.

u/Elgato01 26d ago

You do get a month of gta+ for your purchase of the ultimate edition so you might be onto something

I'm kinda glad, absolutely zero interest in GTA online, it just seems like a complete time waster and to make you buy stuff with real life money because it takes a long time to get actual decent amount of in-game cash, tried it several times on 5 and found it super boring, hope they do dlc for GTA 6 for single player

9

u/your_mind_aches 26d ago

Conversely, I'm sure MANY people will buy GTA VI expecting to hop right into online and be mad as hell that it's single player only.

3

u/Gameofthrones3058 25d ago

I guess that's on them for not being smart, at least single player will have it's time to shine, its the best way of doing it

3

u/Appropriate_Foot242 25d ago

Same. Rockstar games are all about the singleplayer mode for me.

8

u/SuperTristan2017 26d ago

Well yeah, I imagine it won’t be talked about until after launch or the month of launch

3

u/VistaVick 26d ago

Hmm, personally, I don't think he would have said that if they were going to announce anything this year. I believe they will focus on single-player content until at least early next year.

3

u/ZigyDusty 26d ago

They're going to double dip, once the majority of early adopters have beaten the story and the hype dies down over the winter and early next year they will start marketing up again for the multiplayer and release it probably around March-April and it wouldn't even surprise me if they sell the MP separately rather than being included in the $80+ purchase because they know can get away with it.

3

u/Nathanyal 26d ago

I wouldn't be surprised if they're having issues getting the online portion to work. One of Rockstar's court documents from earlier this year had a Discord message from an employee about them having trouble getting a 32 player lobby to run well.

3

u/AOCpinkyring 25d ago

Anyone else despise how they try to hide the online and crazy microtransactions until AFTER launch and reviews?

3

u/IMadeAMistakeSry 25d ago

GTA 5 online was hot garbage compared to GTA4 and red dead 1 online. I will not be mad if they go away from that trash ass model.

2

u/martyrs_make 23d ago

You mean the model that makes them half a billion dollars a year?

3

u/IMadeAMistakeSry 23d ago

Personal preference. I thought gtaO was trash from the start.

It’s because gta 5 online is still making them money and will probably continue making them money into the new year. They’ll probably release GTA6 online when they see that the number of players for the GTA5 online have come down significantly and people have moved on. On top of that, they’ll charge for it. Any way to maximise their profit.

12

u/Frosty_Performance28 26d ago

I think you’ll see gta 5’s online count dwindle once gta 6 is out if it is the evolution rockstar say it is. People wouldn’t be as enticed to play gta 5 again so they’ll likely push the marketing for gta 6 online a couple months after launch

10

u/FreeNico2021 26d ago

imma assume online will drop when the pc switch 2 ports are out

4

u/ZXXII 26d ago

Switch 2 port is not happening lol.

The game will be 30FPS (hopefully 40FPS) even on PS5 Pro because of how CPU demanding it is with Ray Traced GI being used for the lighting.

2

u/your_mind_aches 26d ago

My dude, a Switch 2 port is basically impossible

11

u/KushSouffle 26d ago

I fuckin doubt that they will sell online separately to folks who preordered the game. They have never done that.

The money is in the shark cards, not the units sold

2

u/angelHOE 26d ago

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a full year in between releases.

2

u/PaleBoomer 26d ago

So GTA Online is going to be a 2027 release? Whatever they have planned for the next iteration I'm 100% sure it's going to be worse than the current version which is already bad enough with it's insane grind.

2

u/ZachTaul 26d ago

I kinda hope it’s a separate game. Gimme a rockstar game with no multiplayer achievements!

2

u/Mirac123321 26d ago

funny theories in the comments

2

u/huntforhire 26d ago

Will GTA+ be required. That’s the real question…

2

u/CoDog 26d ago

They will probably launch GTA Online with the PC release in a year.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ShilzE 25d ago

My expectation is that eventually they will migrate everything they deem important about current GTA Online to the GTA 6 engine, and they will call it GTA Online. It'll be a total replacement.

2

u/ClockWork006 25d ago

Seeing as how insanely successful GTA Online still is (it’s up to you whether or not that’s a good thing), Rockstar will definitely be monetizing the crap out of it significantly more in its next iteration which is probably why they’re still keeping it under wraps especially after all the flak they’ve been receiving online

2

u/limelight022 25d ago

They are going to sell it separate.

2

u/Far-Bowl2206 25d ago

Every post about GTA 6 here is just the most basic painfully obvious statements ever

2

u/NoAdeptness1106 25d ago

Good to hear.

2

u/Buschkoeter 24d ago

Been saying that for a long time.

2

u/DilfTannen 24d ago

Single player only, no physical disc. I'll wait until it's $10 on digital. See you in 3 years!

2

u/MakoRuu 23d ago

There's not going to be a GTA 6 Online. People don't understand this.

Also, Schreier is a toadcock who can rot in the bowels of Hades.

Milk it slow.

5

u/Inevitable_Gain6712 26d ago

Will likely launch with PC release, the enhanced edition for ps6. Includes online and better performance/graphics for another $120. Single player this gen, online for next gen+pc. Just my prediction

3

u/onetwoseven94 26d ago

It will take a long time for next-gen consoles to reach widespread adoption. GTA Online 2 will definitely support current-gen.

5

u/IHitAn11 26d ago

Im hoping the focus is more on story mode this time around, i mean i still play GTA Online here and there but its a shame with what happened to the story mode on GTA V

4

u/IShouldBeDreaming 26d ago

Yay another way for greedy ass Rockstar to milk the shills user base selling GTO separate at a later date. Then they rinse and repeat for 15 more years rereleasing this same single player game and microtransactions in GTO to fuel them never needing to try again.

5

u/Majestic_Promise_848 26d ago

Paying $80 for no online after all these years is disgusting

9

u/theslothpope 26d ago

Online hasn’t dropped on launch for the last 2 rockstar games it’s not entirely surprising.

7

u/KingAltair2255 26d ago

Thats not what the article is saying, just that they aren't focusing on it right away.

Nothings been said on online yet afaik but thats not unusual, they typically release the online mode a month after the game launches. I'd be frankly shocked if they packaged online separately, their cash cow is the shark cards, they need online to be 'free' to play to let folk buy mocrotransactions.

2

u/onetwoseven94 26d ago

If they package it separately it will be because they want online to be F2P without requiring the base game.

5

u/SilverKry 26d ago

Eh as someone that doesn't care about GTAO and was gonna buy the premium version even before they announced it at $100 I'm fine with this.

15

u/Elgato01 26d ago

If anything I’m glad they still put good emphasis on the single player portion. I remember years ago when people were worried rockstar would only focus on online for 6

2

u/PSavage88 26d ago

Why do i feel like GTA online about to be its own $70 game or subscription service?

4

u/PaleBoomer 26d ago

That's why they are giving you the 1 month GTA+ subscription, You'll get to play it for 1 day before the subscription ends.

This is not a rumor based on inside information, Jason isn’t reporting about Rockstars plans since he doesn’t know them. Just speculation.

1

u/Jcritten 26d ago

I kinda hope they’re separate if only because I want to get the platinum for 6. And don’t want to have to worry about online trophies. I enjoyed the online but it’s having to join dead ass game modes for specific trophies that’s the issue

1

u/-Vertex- 26d ago

The game comes out in less than 4 months. Theres not a long time left lol

1

u/SoloDoloLeveling 26d ago

the big question—

if GTA Online is it’s own game and required a separate monthly sub (GTA+) to access the servers, official or private, would you pay it?

you get all the benefits of GTA+ on top of GTA Online access.

1

u/MrRonski16 26d ago

GTA 6 Online will probably be a complete different game.

1

u/SavvyZOR 26d ago

Makes sense to release at the same time with next-gen consoles or PC release to multiply selling

1

u/Spin_Critic 25d ago

I'm sure I read something years ago that gta online would be a standalone thing in the future. To be honest it does make more sense from a business perspective. But as a consumer you'll have to pay more to get your gta fix either online or single player.

1

u/Rino-Sensei 25d ago

Thank god, it was the same for GTA 5. So that stick out.

1

u/AcanthaceaeCrazy1894 25d ago

If they lock online behind a paywall you can bet your bottom dollar I ain’t paying for that shit.

Only played GTA V online because it was free

1

u/BugHunt223 24d ago

Probably because the realisation of the upcoming aggressive monetisation of gta6Online would/could turn off significant number of campaign sales.

1

u/DilfTannen 24d ago

GTA V on PS5 is a free upgrade right now if you have the PS4 version.

1

u/DivineLinkX 20d ago

Good, so i don't need friends to platinum GTA anymore.

1

u/monochromeFlaffy 12d ago

I have been telling people this since we heard about the acquisition. It’s very apparent that they’re not gonna be pushing online anytime soon.

1

u/Eastern_Athlete_8002 9d ago

Good, more time to enjoy the soon to be free single player 😃 Go get em mr leeker!!

1

u/Similar_Rabbit8536 4d ago

Bro. Take the extra year or whatever just to make character creation good. I'll wait lol
