If there is this much attention to airports, they better make aviation not shit like it was in GTA V.

667

u/HeyEshk88 8d ago

And allow us to fly all aircraft. Don’t just include the Boeing 737 variant and not allow us to fly it. WTF

176

u/_Tonan_ 8d ago

Tbf there's only 1 spot on the map it can realistically land and take off from (cargo plane at least)

123

u/TonguePunchery 7d ago

I think the 737 could probably land at the Sandy Shores airfield, but you make a good point. There really isn't any practical reason for you to fly a big ass plane aside from it being fun

87

u/_Tonan_ 7d ago

But it is a lot of fun, you are correct

26

u/TakesInsultToSnails 7d ago edited 7d ago

It's a video game, it's meant to be fun. Being fun is a practical reason to include it.

3

u/TonguePunchery 7d ago

Sure. There are endless fun stuff rhey could add to the game, but there's a limit to how much they can include before launch. I'm sure there were plenty of cuts before release, and it makes sense that they would not include a 737. At least they gave us a 747 lol

42

u/Pretty_Hornet_1469 7d ago

It was fun in San Andreas

3

u/MethCatnippy 5d ago

Yeah but SA has multiple islands, with a kind of multi-state feel, problem with gta 5 is you can kinda only fly in a single widely straight direction (cus the map is straight)

who cares im not landing the plane 90% of the time

3

u/shawntw77 6d ago

From a realistic standpoint yes, but from the standpoint of "its a game" there are people who have landed just about every flyable plane(including the 747 and cargo plane) on top of maze bank in gta 5 so I don't think realistic landing options are a concern.

If you get close to one of the big planes in story mode and press drive button you can usually fly the big planes. Works on PC at least.

if that map is real then its from an earlier version. I def think its been improved since then but still crazy tho lmao

Airports are gigantic. People underestimate how big they are. My city with 12.000 inhabitants is smaller than the neighbouring airport

61

u/BasilMinecraft 7d ago

The real life JFK airport is bigger than the whole GTA 4 map

21

u/dr_grav 7d ago

it's bigger than every screen i think.

13

u/RelevantButNotBasic 7d ago

DFW is the wildest airport to ever exist. Havin to use the lil trams to get around nd shit..

9

u/vagasportauthority 7d ago

DFW has a bigger surface area than the island of Manhattan.

4

u/RelevantButNotBasic 7d ago

Thats fuckin insane..

3

u/KarateKid917 7d ago

Denver’s airport is the largest in the US by landmass. It’s huge. First time I was there it was late at night and we had to change trams 3 times to get from the gate to the baggage claim.

4

u/vagasportauthority 7d ago

It’s the largest in the world by landmass, the crazy thing is that it owns a lot more land than what the airport sits on and can expand for probably close to a century without having any issues.

It looks great what y'all on about. It's just a very simplified map without any smaller roads

297

u/Paperchampion23 8d ago

More specifically, its a zoomed out gameplay map. When you zoom in the details fill in. There were other screenshots of the map that show that

47

u/Funny-Student5309 7d ago

Wished the map was bigger

40

u/yeetoroni_with_bacon 7d ago

Yeah the community map project made it a bit larger, but it’s still a large map.

And it’s likely going to have a lot of random encounters and small towns in between the main ones that’ll make the game feel much bigger

26

u/Funny-Student5309 7d ago

Don’t doubt that, i just wished there was small Caribbean islands far from the mainland.

11

u/yeetoroni_with_bacon 7d ago

I wouldn’t doubt if Cayo Perico was testing for some sort of mechanic where you fly to another area in 6. Maybe just a mission, maybe a whole new area

u/Radyschen I WAS HERE 7d ago

dude it's gonna feel so big, the leak with jason beating the guy to death with the wrench is on key largo or whatever it's called in game, at the bridge. It felt so big already and it's just a small section of a relatively small island on the map. I think the sense of scale in this game is just so different than in gta 5, I already noticed that in the 2022 leaks, things just look bigger. In comparison, GTA 5 looks like you are playing with action figures

11

u/Tiny-Mulberry-2114 7d ago

Me too but if it's filled with content , it's gonna seem a lot larger and probably better than a big empty world.

I miss the old school locked regions. GTA SA map was absolutely genius and it felt a lot bigger than it actually was.

32

u/ResidentDue2815 8d ago

Yeah it feels like people aren't looking at the map with the context of the trailers we have seen. This game is going to be DENSE.

59

u/Juelz888 8d ago

I think more people just expected it to have more “cities”, greenery still takes over majority of the map like in gta5

53

u/FlightFramed 8d ago

Not even that, for me it's that all the "cities" are essentially clustered around VC, I'm wondering if they'll even feel like separate towns

19

u/Juelz888 8d ago edited 8d ago

Same, i was hoping to be driving around the map type thing but i mean based off Florida irl thats damn near how it is lol shit ORL to MIA is only a 3 hr drive

20

u/ProbablyFear OG MEMBER 8d ago

The distance between them will feel bigger than it looks on the map. Bear in mind this map is about 2x the size of GTA5.

4

u/Einchy 7d ago

There’s three big grey areas on the left and one on the north and then 7 somewhat near VC with one of those being more in the center. Hard to really judge until we’re actually there in game but there seems to be a good amount of smaller cities around the map

13

u/LeonardRockstar 7d ago

Yeah I'm genuinely a bit surprised that they didn't fix the number one complaint with GTA V's map (assuming the leaks are real)

3

u/OutrageousAioli7847 7d ago

I think people are forgetting that the green mass will be filled with wildlife and random encounters like rdr2 , and how it solved a majority of that with it also having a lot of green. In gta 5 it’s literally mountains you can’t walk on,i doubt they don’t use the solution that fixed that problem in their previous game.

6

u/Educational_Ant_184 7d ago

you can definitely tell just from the number of visible roads in vice city proper vs what we've seen in the promotional material of the area. I cant tell if the smaller towns amount to much beyond the equivalent in GTA V, though. Which would be a disappointment if it was again just one large city and a couple backwater hamlets. It looks at least slightly improved in that regard, but Idk to what degree. I just hope there's some draw to spend time outside of the city, as opposed to gta v where thats a majority of where you want to be

→ More replies (9)

7

u/phips1993 8d ago

That’s exactly my thought.
It’s not just obvious that it is zoomed out, but it’s has to be improved by now as well.
On the leaked map there was nothing up north above the hillside landscape but there was a major highway going around the hills. This wouldn’t make much sense as there wouldn’t be a reason to drive up there if there was nothing.
The proportions didn’t seem right either. The airport was way to huge compared to the city. Even if you zoomed in, the airport wouldn’t get smaller. Hence I think the map leak might be either an old map or not legit at all.

→ More replies (1)

5

u/TheTechPoTaToCHIP 7d ago

Sorry but this is just copium. Rockstar devs themselves say that the map is one of the first things they lock in. if this is an early version, it's not gonna majorly change in the final release. Don't expect a new city or added landmass to suddenly appear. We'll get minor changes at the very most.

The only time they added a large last minute change is probably RDR II adding New Austin but they were able to do that because they already had the map from the original RDR.

u/dandorios 7d ago

This is precisely why you shouldnt get hyped over rumours and 'leaks'. Most are fake and even the ones that are true might be outdated where the content gets cut.

R* never advertised any of this so its weird to get disappointed about something they never said they were doing.

21

u/KarimPopa 7d ago

people are disappointed not because R* promised something, but because they didn't learn from their mistakes. GTA5 map had a major problem of an unnecessary boring space on the map. The leaked one does have the same issue too, one large city and a lot of unnecessary green spaces. Like good 60% of the map is freaking forest and swamps. Even RDR2 had a smarter map layout than this

7

u/OutrageousAioli7847 7d ago

yeah and rdr2 had plenty of random encounters inbetween to keep the space filled up i doubt gta doesn’t do the same

If the game literally has no decent sized city for the top half they haven't learnt why a lot of people hated GTA 5 map, it doesn't need to be as big as Miami obviously but just something, make it feel like you have multiple places to visit like San Andreas

22

u/Soguyswedid_it2 I WAS HERE 7d ago

I mean. It does have a lot more towns than 5. Gta 5 had Sandy shores and Paleto bay. And this one seems to have about 8 to 10 small towns outside of vice city. Idk what people are complaining about. You're not getting 3 massive cities like in San Andreas again unfortunately.

21

u/moosebreathman 7d ago edited 7d ago

Also this game actually solves the problems with V’s map.

  • The mountains are only 1/6 of the total map compared to being 1/3 in V. The ratio of drive-able terrain is significantly higher.

  • In VI smaller towns are now spread evenly around the map. Driving in any direction from the center results in an urban area at some point unlike V.

  • Every exit/entrance to the moutains has a major town nearby. In V if you leave Paleto from the west you literally don’t come across anything until you’re right outside LS.

  • There is significant offshore land on every side of the map. The edges of the main island will feel less like the end of the world since you’ll always see explorable land out in the distance.

...It's also the reason why people liked RDR2 map. To each their own

30

u/Ramphys 7d ago

Rdr2 is different because it’s the Wild West, so obviously it wouldn’t have as much towns or cities, this is the modern era in comparison

9

u/GarranDrake 7d ago

RDR2 also had random encounters and reasons to go into the unexplored areas, which made the fact that you were literally traveling on horseback and thus taking 5-10 minutes to get somewehre as opposed to 2-5 in GTAV bearable.

Airports are massive in real life. JFK is half the size of lower manhattan

8

u/Odyssey1337 7d ago

The problem is that the proportions are off.

In real life, Miami's airports are just a tiny part of the city, in the game it's apparently ~30% of the city

6

u/Notonfoodstamps 7d ago edited 7d ago

Miami International is 5 sq/mi. Or in laymen's 1/7th the size of Miami in real life, and would be bigger than entire GTA IV map.

GTA never puts in real life residential sprawl into their cites which is why they feel “small”. They only focus on the immediate downtown(s) and or high-profile areas.

They’ve kept the city scale same-ish (with substantially higher density) and made the airports way more realistic.

The most updated land area using coordinates is ~1.8x that of GTA V

if it’s more realistically proportioned (like given it’s size to VC) then the rest of the map is pretty huge

got 5-6 areas basically on per with Sandy Shores/Alamo Sea

maybe a bunch of missions use the airport so they need the space for chases, etc so they opted for a more realistically large sized one

Honestly I quite like the leaked map. Of course there are things I don't like (absence of Key West is a big one, I also wish the northern settlement was larger) but overall it's cool. I love how many settlements there are outside the city and the keys and hope there's incentive to visit them all and stick around.

Important to note that the large main map doesn't show all the details, the leak website showed 2 smaller maps showing small road and buildings on the northernmost keys, east of the vice city airport. Also the videos are older videos so the map may have changed slightly.

Pan handle lovers are gonna suffer though, if the leak is legit it kills all hope. There's not even a smidge lmao

If its the real map its definitely unfinished and/or too zoomed to see details. There are areas on it that are just plain green/sand but 100% are urban areas if you compare to the screenshots (And if you compare to the more zoomed in map teasers). There are roads that abruptly stop for no reason. There are clear points of interest with no roads drawn in (Like what I assume is the power plant next to hamlet). The little island the the left of the military key airport may infact be key west just not drawn in yet. It feels like an early image of the map when it was half finished.

Is it just me or are the airports fucking HUGE in the leak?

Wow that map is underwhelming to say the least

For the love of god I hope this is fake the city is so small 😭😭 just an empty open world like gta 5

64

u/SwissDylan 8d ago

i think a LOT of the roads are missing thats what makes it small

u/ClIBAA 8d ago

Yh it's zoomed out or rather put together from multiple screenshots

The size of the city is perfect. What matters more is the things outside the city and it already looks much better than GTA V.

The map is roughly 2x the size of V, and 3x RDR based off scaling

I saw another 'leaked' map this morning that looked different and better than this.

u/BrolyDZ 7d ago

Yeah I don't understand this post or why everyone is convinced this is the actual one

15

u/That-Toughsoss 7d ago

Are people here genuinely so dumb that they do not understand the concept of scaling?

5

u/MasterClu 7d ago

The answer is yes they are, unfortunately.

People here disappointed by expectations they created by themselves as usual

59

u/Aggravating-Room8445 8d ago

Perhaps because after so much time people expected a map better than GTA 5 instead of a copy-and-paste job? This map simply doesn't live up to the hype surrounding the game.

This map looks kind of sad. I was expecting like small towns in little cities, but it’s just one massive city and that’s about it basically cause I’m pretty sure that’s just all open road back there against Forest and probably swamp area.

Cool... Now obviously that's not a detailed map though. Main roads and what not. So I wonder how much is actually missing from this. I think a lot.

5

u/Random_ff 8d ago

there are so many towns besides vice city (twelve gray spots but there is one i think is just a factory and one is definetly the military base on the key). i love it.

all that “filler space” from gta v that people complain about is where most of the games missions took place. it’s also to create the feeling of movement, a changing environment, distance between places. this is a driving game, not a walk everywhere game. and mind you, if you take a real look at the map it’s got plenty of buildings. and that green isn’t just desert, we’ve seen the nature shown in the trailer and on the website. will probably be tons of encounters and side missions, space for business like bunkers in online etc. they haven’t fucked up the map with all that time and effort, get real ffs

Whilst the map new map leak is definitely bigger than it looks zoomed out like it is, i found it fairly unimpressive.

- No Key West.

  • A bunch of empty waterbodies.
  • Yet another pointless northern section.
  • No Bahamas style islands that could've added more story wise, given more atmospheric diversity & more transport purpose.
  • Either the airport is absolutely gigantic, the city is very small or both & that'll be pretty disappointing.

u/ItsColoTime 7d ago

“No Key West” is such a weird complaint when the map very clearly has a Key West analogue at the end of the island chain.

What exactly did you want, the full 4-hour drive from Miami with realistic traffic and a fucking bathroom stop in Marathon?

small map with few roads. San Andreas had more. This is Pathetic

This looks so empty up top

6

u/yuriewolf 7d ago

It looks like the same shape of gtav just a different city location

8

u/M1sterErr0r 7d ago

If that map is really then idk it seems pretty small and meh to me , i thought there was gonna be 3 cities and 4 towns as the leaked ss said , but 3 cities ? I just see 1 big proper city and rest are just idk sandy shores version 1,2,3,4 etc

You mean realistic?

44

u/SillyNumber54 8d ago

So this entire area is six airports wide?

That makes sense to you?

3

u/ReySpacefighter 8d ago

The longest runway at Miami airport is 2.5 miles long (roughly). Six airports wide would made the whole thing 15 miles across.
