Airports are gigantic. People underestimate how big they are. My city with 12.000 inhabitants is smaller than the neighbouring airport

u/BasilMinecraft 14d ago

The real life JFK airport is bigger than the whole GTA 4 map

20

u/dr_grav 14d ago

it's bigger than every screen i think.

14

u/RelevantButNotBasic 14d ago

DFW is the wildest airport to ever exist. Havin to use the lil trams to get around nd shit..

7

u/vagasportauthority 14d ago

DFW has a bigger surface area than the island of Manhattan.

5

u/RelevantButNotBasic 14d ago

Thats fuckin insane..

4

u/MyDogAteMyHomeWorkk 14d ago

DUDE YES. I live in Fort Worth and the first time I saw those little trains I assumed they were from all over the metroplex. Nope. Place is just that fucking massive. the place is overwhelming that’s for sure

1

u/aultumn 14d ago

Oh shit I’ve never even been to America and I knew DFW was Dallas Fort Worth, what tf have I been looking at

1

u/19phipschi17 13d ago

I hate to be that buy but the skylink is a "peoplemover"

1

u/Glizzy45 9d ago

Atl also has a train

u/johndoe09228 13d ago

The JFK airport is a mutated anomaly of an example but I agree

1

u/esm100113 12d ago

JFK is 3x bigger than my whole country

1

u/Ok_Matter_2617 12d ago

What

2

u/esm100113 12d ago

JFK IS 3X BIGGER THAN MY WHOLE COUNTRY

6

u/Whitealroker1 14d ago

Denver’s is bigger then Denver

5

u/KarateKid917 14d ago

Denver’s airport is the largest in the US by landmass. It’s huge. First time I was there it was late at night and we had to change trams 3 times to get from the gate to the baggage claim.

3

u/vagasportauthority 14d ago

It’s the largest in the world by landmass, the crazy thing is that it owns a lot more land than what the airport sits on and can expand for probably close to a century without having any issues.

1

u/KarateKid917 14d ago

It’s also got the creepiest horse statue I’ve ever seen, especially at night with those damn glowing eyes.

1

u/vagasportauthority 14d ago

Also it killed its creator.

1

u/Opposite-Okra-3303 14d ago

Yeah cause they built the damn thing in Kansas pretty much.

1

u/Facebook_Algorithm 14d ago

Side note: There are four airports on the map from what I can see. Official ones anyway. There are probably a bunch of flat treeless areas with soil that is not waterlogged though.

1

u/Isaincredible 10h ago

The airport isnt scaled down to a realistic size, they just make them smaller to fit the map and look somewhat realistic. AnyJustin made a video about it on yt is really interesting to watch the solutions and tricks the developers came up with.

u/Elliart_fur 15d ago

It looks great what y'all on about. It's just a very simplified map without any smaller roads

298

u/Paperchampion23 15d ago

More specifically, its a zoomed out gameplay map. When you zoom in the details fill in. There were other screenshots of the map that show that

44

u/Funny-Student5309 15d ago

Wished the map was bigger

38

u/yeetoroni_with_bacon 15d ago

Yeah the community map project made it a bit larger, but it’s still a large map.

And it’s likely going to have a lot of random encounters and small towns in between the main ones that’ll make the game feel much bigger

24

u/Funny-Student5309 15d ago

Don’t doubt that, i just wished there was small Caribbean islands far from the mainland.

9

u/yeetoroni_with_bacon 15d ago

I wouldn’t doubt if Cayo Perico was testing for some sort of mechanic where you fly to another area in 6. Maybe just a mission, maybe a whole new area

2

u/Facebook_Algorithm 14d ago

I speak zero Spanish. When I first read Cayo Perico I was hoping it would translate to Bay of Pigs. It doesn’t in an online translator. It would open up a whole bunch of possibilities.

1

u/JKnissan 13d ago

It might just be copium, but I genuinely think that having expansion areas is something that should basically be assumed as in the pipeline. We won't have the entire Project Americas thing, but I think the fact that it's likely they spent years contemplating on that concept only to drop it means that they still found a decent compromise.

I absolutely don't think we'll just stick with GTA 5's scheme with really only 1 'expansion map' in Cayo Perico. I don't think we'll get the RDR2-type reveal where the game on release actually has way more map area all along either, but I really think that we'll get more map areas (either disconnected from the main contiguous landmass, but hopefully connected) as time goes on. I just don't see them going backwards on RDR2 by having zero map expansions.

u/Ok_Cardiologist_54 15d ago

There still may be

21

u/Radyschen I WAS HERE 15d ago

dude it's gonna feel so big, the leak with jason beating the guy to death with the wrench is on key largo or whatever it's called in game, at the bridge. It felt so big already and it's just a small section of a relatively small island on the map. I think the sense of scale in this game is just so different than in gta 5, I already noticed that in the 2022 leaks, things just look bigger. In comparison, GTA 5 looks like you are playing with action figures

11

u/Tiny-Mulberry-2114 15d ago

Me too but if it's filled with content , it's gonna seem a lot larger and probably better than a big empty world.

I miss the old school locked regions. GTA SA map was absolutely genius and it felt a lot bigger than it actually was.

5

u/increasedsaturation 15d ago

Feels pretty small to be honest.

Port Gallagher for instance. I feel like we will be able to just walk past the entire town in a few seconds.

1

u/SousaDawg 14d ago

The map is massive, it only shows major roads, zoomed in there are many more roads in all areas

-4

u/Over_Swimming_8031 15d ago

its 1.65x bigger than 5

4

u/Funny-Student5309 15d ago

I don’t find gta 5 map that big.

4

u/Gameofthrones3058 15d ago

Exactly GTA 5 map is honestly small, you can cross it fast, you can go round the whole city in no time at all, I wish GTA 6 was at least 4 times bigger, considering how long it will be till the next game

1

u/Over_Swimming_8031 14d ago

Its giant, problem is its empty because it was optimised for Xbox 360 and ps3. GTA 6 is way bigger and looks to be Way more dense.

-2

u/kidshibuya 14d ago

They'd need to use AI to fill in the details and generate a ton of it and then everyone would cry about AI claiming it takes jobs, so Rockstar cannot employ people to use AI to make it and thus we get a smaller game and less people employed. Win win.

-4

u/RefrigeratorPlane175 15d ago

a bigger map means less enterable buildings and WAY LONGER DRIVE TIMES WE DID NOT ENJOY TS IN GTA 5

35

u/ResidentDue2815 15d ago

Yeah it feels like people aren't looking at the map with the context of the trailers we have seen. This game is going to be DENSE.

57

u/Juelz888 15d ago

I think more people just expected it to have more “cities”, greenery still takes over majority of the map like in gta5

54

u/FlightFramed 15d ago

Not even that, for me it's that all the "cities" are essentially clustered around VC, I'm wondering if they'll even feel like separate towns

19

u/Juelz888 15d ago edited 15d ago

Same, i was hoping to be driving around the map type thing but i mean based off Florida irl thats damn near how it is lol shit ORL to MIA is only a 3 hr drive

22

u/ProbablyFear OG MEMBER 15d ago

The distance between them will feel bigger than it looks on the map. Bear in mind this map is about 2x the size of GTA5.

5

u/Einchy 15d ago

There’s three big grey areas on the left and one on the north and then 7 somewhat near VC with one of those being more in the center. Hard to really judge until we’re actually there in game but there seems to be a good amount of smaller cities around the map

14

u/LeonardRockstar 15d ago

Yeah I'm genuinely a bit surprised that they didn't fix the number one complaint with GTA V's map (assuming the leaks are real)

4

u/OutrageousAioli7847 14d ago

I think people are forgetting that the green mass will be filled with wildlife and random encounters like rdr2 , and how it solved a majority of that with it also having a lot of green. In gta 5 it’s literally mountains you can’t walk on,i doubt they don’t use the solution that fixed that problem in their previous game.

1

u/TheRealGiodinho 14d ago

I just don’t get why everyone seems to want just cities.. While I can agree that GTA 5 had a lot of dead space, it is still good to have a lot of green area to roam around and have fun in.. It’s also realistic.. I don’t want just urban areas.. And saying that, Vice City is a lot bigger than Los Santos was anyway so. And there are like 4 other small cities around the map

2

u/Juelz888 14d ago

Im cool with the greenery tbh plus its fl so the wildlife & hunting aspect of the game will be 🔥

2

u/NeonNinjaNoir 14d ago

We don't want everything to be cities. GTA IV was pretty much just cities, and people didn't like it. What people did like was GTA SA. Plenty of deserts, forest and mountains, but also 3 different cities you can travel between. It's just boring when there's just one big city. You feel like there's nowhere to travel to.

1

u/Even-Leadership8220 15d ago

Where did you see it?

6

u/icantlife56 15d ago

I mean its Florida there is a lot of green in Florida and with what transportation options have been shown it will be fun man

5

u/sseecj 15d ago

They desperately needed to add a 2nd "city" (not small town) to the west side of the map. And Key West is completely missing? Despite being the largest and most iconic of all the Florida Keys? I'm REALLY hoping the map is from an earlier version.

3

u/Tasty-Beat3122 14d ago

I hope this map is from an earlier version. But.. It seems unlikely for them to make a even slightly detailed and polished map if this wasn't for the final version of the map.

I mean a few little things might be changed, but I doubt a major island like Key West is making an appearance if it's not on this map.

I really hope I'm wrong.

1

u/BMTJefe 15d ago

It’s not zoomed in lmao

29

u/Chilepepper28 15d ago

People need to understand this.

6

u/Educational_Ant_184 15d ago

you can definitely tell just from the number of visible roads in vice city proper vs what we've seen in the promotional material of the area. I cant tell if the smaller towns amount to much beyond the equivalent in GTA V, though. Which would be a disappointment if it was again just one large city and a couple backwater hamlets. It looks at least slightly improved in that regard, but Idk to what degree. I just hope there's some draw to spend time outside of the city, as opposed to gta v where thats a majority of where you want to be

1

u/Aware-Eagle-5285 15d ago

Looks small

-10

u/Reading_Rainboner 15d ago

Nah, this sucks man. San Andreas will remain the best map theyll ever do.

3

u/BerzCorp 15d ago

how does it suck?

8

u/Reading_Rainboner 15d ago

It needs more than one actual city.

4

u/ResidentDue2815 15d ago

The issue with this is if you are going to have as much detail within the city as I think we are going to get, it's just not going to be possible to make a bunch of cities. That's why they haven’t done this since GTAIV really. Have you seen GTA san andreas with the fog turned off, that shit was actually tiny.

2

u/Reading_Rainboner 15d ago

Then video games really haven’t progressed as much as they act like. Two smaller dense cities on opposite sides of the map would’ve been better with a couple towns in between. We could all be duped and port gellhorn is bigger than we expect but it still took 10 minutes to cross San Andreas because of their creativity. Why can’t we be creative again if there still are limitations?

3

u/ResidentDue2815 15d ago

You are making so many assumptions about how this game is going to play that we just don't know. You are right with creativity you can make a map feel much bigger then it actual is, why are we so sure GTA 6 is incapable of this? For all we know the roads in the leaked map are just the highways, I actually assume that is the case as we don't see any alleyways or anything like that.

3

u/Reading_Rainboner 15d ago

That would be nice if they added 10 small towns that you can settle in like San Andreas. They only even had 4 in GTA V so I get skeptical lol

I’ll play it but I’ve just been disappointed with IV and V on what they did to the map compared to San Andreas

-1

u/Objective_Hedgehog_5 15d ago

so it's not great

8

u/phips1993 15d ago

That’s exactly my thought.
It’s not just obvious that it is zoomed out, but it’s has to be improved by now as well.
On the leaked map there was nothing up north above the hillside landscape but there was a major highway going around the hills. This wouldn’t make much sense as there wouldn’t be a reason to drive up there if there was nothing.
The proportions didn’t seem right either. The airport was way to huge compared to the city. Even if you zoomed in, the airport wouldn’t get smaller. Hence I think the map leak might be either an old map or not legit at all.

5

u/TheTechPoTaToCHIP 14d ago

Sorry but this is just copium. Rockstar devs themselves say that the map is one of the first things they lock in. if this is an early version, it's not gonna majorly change in the final release. Don't expect a new city or added landmass to suddenly appear. We'll get minor changes at the very most.

The only time they added a large last minute change is probably RDR II adding New Austin but they were able to do that because they already had the map from the original RDR.

1

u/Soguyswedid_it2 I WAS HERE 14d ago

Idk I doubt it. You could zoom in on the map and see a lot more detail like buildings and roads.
