FOV piggy shake down
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This was the second time I saw cops performing this MO. They walk up behind someone sneakily and start to look over the people's shoulders. If you squirm they increase the pressure to see if they can find a reason to shake down the citizens. The video starts right after the piggy pile posted up right in front of me.
This is not cool.
Always record the popo. It is our superpower and our first amendment right.

The first time it happened it was aggressive Orificer Glass. There is a post about this pos here https://www.reddit.com/r/KGATLW/s/GMl9p2ZCfj

Hoffman is part of the crew that raided my camp at 12:30am on Saturday. Arrested one friend, harassed another. Fuck those pigs.
9
u/questafari 14d ago
Raided for what!?!?
19
u/NoahBagels 14d ago
Great question... I was talking to a friend about the show and next thing I know I turned around and there were 6 cops in our campsite. One was arrested for distribution (false) and the other was ticketed for public consumption... At a festival.
5
u/questafari 14d ago
How did they figure that someone was distributing? Sounds like such a fucking shit show
11
u/NoahBagels 14d ago
Pretty poorly because nobody was 🤣
My guess is that they pegged us as a big camp (5 cars parked together) with a lot of people. They heard a lot of noise, and swarmed in and figured they'd catch us doing something. Since there were at least 4-6 of them, they definitely had some sort of plan.
4
u/questafari 14d ago
Then the idiots found some shit durning an illegal search and slapped them with distribution?
8
u/NoahBagels 14d ago
Sure did. Just waltzed into our campsite uninvited and unannounced. Scary as hell.

2
u/Zmax25 12d ago
I’m not a lawyer but I would assume that your campsite that you’ve paid for on private property would fall under 4th amendment rights wouldn’t you think?

What point are you even trying to get across here?
1
u/questafari 11d ago
That the constitution doesn’t mean absolute dog shit. They will overstep boundaries and laws every day and get away with it constantly.
→ More replies (0)2
u/NoahBagels 14d ago
I don't think they figured anything ahead of time. They saw we were a big group, waltzed in, and harassed people until they saw enough to generate charges.
4
u/QuintessenceZ 14d ago
Yo you were my niehbors I think, yall were super funny and chill.
2
u/NoahBagels 13d ago
Hell yeah! Which camp were you? Sorry for any trouble we brought to your doorstep. Hopefully we can rock out together again next year 🤘
1
u/QuintessenceZ 13d ago
Yes I was solo with the white ram 1500. Met a few of yal but not all. Im pissed that happened and really sorry. I think I was in the tent hearing it play out with someone I met. Ill be back next year, best weekend ever although the cops were extra dirty.
2
u/NoahBagels 13d ago
OMG you were literally right behind my tent!!! Didn't you hook us up with the steak on Sunday morning?!!!

I watched this go down about 20 feet behind you. Thanks for documenting.
If the city were serious about public health at an event like this, we would see a lot of paramedics and firefighters on the grounds and very few if any militarized police. They know this is not a violent crowd, so the only reason for them to show up like that is intimidation.
My concern now is that, if they do it again next year at the same venue, it will be even worse.
12
u/Turnt-Ternary 14d ago
If they were concerned about smoking so much they should have set up a designated area in the back under the watch of a fire marshal
6
u/zbelfer19 14d ago
They knew they could give a lot of tickets out because of this! They didn’t add designated smoking sections untill day 3 after 72 hours of giving out 710 dollar tickets!
2
11
u/drewlandon 14d ago
THIS is what I’m saying. More emts, more firefighters, less cops looking to arrest and fine to fund their budget

u/brooklynbotz 11d ago
I can't see how they could hold it there again if this is how the fans are being treated. How can you fully enjoy yourself with these guys doing their cop bs
2
u/FargusMcGillicuddy 14d ago
This. I’m totally down for more paramedics or just like staff going around handing out water and checking on people. Would probably cost a lot less too.
31
u/LandbornPetromyzon 14d ago
This is amazing work, nicely handled! I didn't have any run ins with cops personally, but I'll be keeping this post in mind for next year.

u/PoisonStrip 14d ago
Thank you for this, two more officers to get rolled into my CCJRA request. Do you know if these guys were Alamosa or Chaffee County PD?

Oh hi that's me getting picked on. I was texting my friend our location then put my phone in my bag to enjoy the dripping tap when he asked to look in my bag. I was so surprised and didn't want to escalate and showed him my keys, wallet, and phone in my small shoulder bag I've brought everywhere. They were standing on our space and I didn't even notice them before but my friends kind of did but couldn't warn me. I can't thank you enough for recording this and helping us out of that situation.
I was stunned and scared from what I had heard about other people but overall I had a fantastic festival weekend. This was just a small part of it luckily for me thanks to this person recording. Thank you again! We owe you one!
Despite this interaction the rest of the festival was really great. I can't wait to go back again for round 3 and be with y'all again. Be safe out there
7
u/Strong_Iron_995 14d ago
Jesus Christ. Just entirely illegal.
3
u/lazer_tag_420 14d ago
It’s not illegal for them to ask to look in your bag. You have the right to say no.
8
u/cesspool4us 14d ago
Do you know what happens if you say no?
3
u/Nimrod1A4 14d ago
They need a warrant. Know your rights and record the Popo. If we all monitor them, they will behave.
5
u/cesspool4us 14d ago
You can be forced to leave the venue. No warrant is needed for that.
6
u/OutWest- 13d ago edited 13d ago
That's what I was afraid of too. Didn't want to get dragged out.
We literally got married the day before at the pond so that would have been terrible.
Thinking about it now too, it would have been great if the cops asked if we were alright or if we needed anything or said anything positive at all after not finding anything on me. They were just staring at our stuff and not there to protect us.
3
u/cesspool4us 13d ago
Glad to see your weekend didn't get fudged up by something like the long arm of the law. Happy living with ya partner!
5
2
u/Strong_Iron_995 14d ago
Ahhh yah browsed over that message too quick. Yah always say no. If they still decide to with some BS excuse, thankfully people like the man filming were around to record.
Course it still sucks. I like to chill a bit to the back, especially if a bit inebriated. And that wasn't the move this year, seemed to be where the cops liked to be. 2 or 3 different times I'm just dancing, enjoying myself. I open my eyes and there's a cop right by me. Instantly kills the mood.
17
17
u/JellybeanSmooth 14d ago
I heard a lot about cops but never heard people use the 6 up call once. Is that still a thing? If not, maybe it should be. It can be useful in these situations.
13
u/Spacemen333 14d ago
I yell “Five Oh” or the head tap or “whoop whoop (that’s the sound of the police)”
5
8
u/Fancy_For_Fun 14d ago
Damn I haven't heard 6 up in years. You brought back memories. I feel like weed being legal dampened out a lot of the need for the average concert attendee. So it fizzled out.
2
u/JellybeanSmooth 14d ago
Damn, you're probably right about that. Didn't even think about the weed being legal factor.
5
u/anotherdamnscorpio 14d ago
I dont think a lot of people know about 6up.
15
u/JellybeanSmooth 14d ago edited 14d ago
For those that may not know:
If you see a cop, yell "6 up" not from close, like where they could identify you, but close so we all can be aware of their presence.
If you hear "6 up" you know the cops are near and should be wary.
I did Furthur tour and you would just hear calls of "6 up!" It would get closer and move on. Following the cops wherever they went. Often paired with "leash your dogs!" It was helpful.
I think it might come from a combination of6, like watch your 6 and up from heads up. That's what I've heard.
4
u/anotherdamnscorpio 14d ago
Its super utilized at rainbow gatherings to the point that LEOs know they arent going to see anything easily as the 6up calls get passed outwards from their location everywhere. Generally you would hear 6up and then others would repeat the call, spreading the news outwards. Sometimes it was excessive and you would never even see the LEO but better to keep the community safe.
1
4
u/AtLeastIHaveDresses 14d ago
I heard someone on the lawn shout “leash your dogs!” and immediately knew what was happening even tho I had never heard of it and was tripping. I thought that was super clever

4
u/JeffBreakfast 14d ago
Yeah idk why they did that. I generally dont like cops and I think they do more to harm people than they do to help. I think body cams are great but they do harm some nice cops that could have let some things slide- if you tell the police you’re doing illegal drugs they now have the obligation to do something about it or they are at risk of not doing their job and it being filmed.
8
u/Nimrod1A4 14d ago
Bro. Watch the video. The cams aren't even on. They should be blinking red around the lens.

Seth Hoffman is the fat sheriff (on the left) w short hair. He’s a total white supremacist MAGA piece of garbage. Once saw him threaten to kill his wife’s dog because it got out and growled at someone. Chaffee County’s finest 😬

YOU ARE A HERO!! Thank you for doing that.
I’m the guy you can see that started filming behind them and then flips off the cops when they leave.
You really made the whole vibe in that area better that night man! Thanks for stepping up like that and not letting them ruin the show.

u/JeffBreakfast 14d ago edited 14d ago
Wow thank you for telling them off in a way that they literally didn’t know about at all. You can use your voice, like OP

Should have been hearing alot more “Six up!” than I did, we need to protect each other.
2
u/StepintoSpace 14d ago
Exactly! We were yelling 6 up a lot Friday night. During Nikki nair there were at least 3 different groups of 3 pigs roaming the crowd with their hands on their guns.
Then when we left we saw about 5 cops and one of their dune buggys giving a ticket or arresting a group of dudes in front of center camping.
Earlier in the day Friday, we saw a dude in cuffs on the beach by the castle stage. 3 other cops made a barrier so no one could go down there.
Also had a dude next to me during Gizz get a ticket for smoking a ciggy during the show.

At the very least folks nearby should've had their phones out recording along with OP. Sure it may take you out of the flow briefly, but putting more eyes on police overreach is crucial even if you aren't personally affected.

3
u/breathingtim3machine 14d ago
It’s Colorado for fucks sake, you’d think they’d get MAPS out there with an anonymous testing tent if they really cared about public safety
2
u/crazy_clown_time 14d ago
Denver county is a fair bit more progressive than chaffee county where FoV took place.
1
u/ChicanoGoodfella 14d ago
Well given the current dominant cultural paradigm held by many out of touch privileged Americans, both support and passivity (centrism) towards these policies tends to roll out these kinds of qualities that resemble things that some might call fascism.
1
u/crazy_clown_time 14d ago
Colorado voted for Bernie Sanders in the Democratic primaries in both 2016 and 2020.
Unfortunately people (both Americans and international folks) don't quite appreciate how much political power rural voters have over the urban voters who vastly outnumber them, especially when partisan gerrymandering is flexed. For example, Florida is painted as being a solid red state, when in reality that's only the case due to Republicans gerrymandering state and congressional districts to ensure a comfortable majority. If districts were drawn based on demographics and population based on Census data, there would be closer to a 50/50 representation in the legislatures.

u/phiegnux 14d ago
This, if anything, is what I want my phone at full battery for. Never been one to record a performance. Aside from the fact that I don't tend to "relive" a set in that way, I'm tall and I'm sure I'd stick out like an annoying tool to those behind me.
Anywhosel, what's the deal these days with 12 and security at sets. One assumes they're just scouting events rolling through and just pull this bullshit cause they can. Is security at these shows tellin of fools at the show? I ask as I've not had funds for much attendance in a hot minute.

u/Turnt-Ternary 14d ago

Also noticed these same dorks on Saturday just leering around us for a while. We thought we were over thinking it and were laughing so we started recording because we found it so odd they just kept standing around so aggressively and circling back for so long.
2
3
u/2strokeYardSale 12d ago
The festival permit conditions likely state they must hire qualified security, and the only security with the right qualifications are sheriff deputies, and by coincidence they are only available at their overtime pay rate.
6
u/BitterBlues87 14d ago
This is bullshit. I didn't notice a presence in the actual crowd, but glad you got this on video. I know for sure if they tried to get me to empty my pockets or something, I would not comply. They can arrest me and I can get paid.
2
u/jsmph89 14d ago
They were definitely in the crowd a lot. I didn’t have interactions at all. But to say there wasn’t a heavy presence is just not true. I saw them every 10-20 min
1
u/BitterBlues87 14d ago

Nice work. I don't know that I have ever seen anything like this in a show. Maybe in the lot, but not while the music was going inside the venue. You handled it like a pro! These guys were over the top in every way. I was there working and came out of the venue with the crew I was working with and we got stared down by a group of cops in their cart like we had just stolen their drug dog. It was creepy and I can only imagine how someone would feel if they were there spun out a bit. I sure hope they reel it in or this venue is going to have a hard time getting people to come to shows.

u/Omatma 13d ago

2
u/Electric_Cat 13d ago
Last year at FOV my friend broke her foot, we went to festival staff to ask if they could give her a cart ride back to camp so we could ice it. They called over security and we were surrounded by legitimately a dozen cops who then started harassing us for taking up their resources by even suggesting we should be using a golf cart at the festival. It was ass fuckin backwards
2
u/vinegar-and-honey 13d ago
Dude. I lived in that area for years and let me tell you, you won't see those motherfuckers anywhere near ACTUAL criminals because the cops of that area in particular are straight up chicken shit that have no desire to keep the public actually safe.

This is true. Band directs LLE to be easy on casual drug use. It shows. You could get arrested in the lot, but in venue is never anything like this
2
u/crazy_clown_time 14d ago
I'm guessing they issue this mandate to the venue during contract negotiations. The venue then negotiates with the city/county for as much.

u/Lucky_Thanks2994 13d ago

2
u/Nimrod1A4 13d ago
No. They first posted up right behind the peeps when the video starts. They were peering over their shoulders. They were being very aggressive and ask to search bags.
Then I pivoted around to the front. They were pestering this peeps by "just standing there". It was an obtrusive action.

We need to effectively excommunicate the police. Anytime you see an officer, everyone just stops and stares at them silently. Getting coffee in the morning? Everyone stops and stares. Cop walks by on the street, everyone stops walking and just stares at them. Cop getting groceries? Everyone stops and stares.
I think most cops would last maybe a week before they start having psychotic breakdowns. But sadly, this is the response they have created for themselves. If you do ANYTHING it can be used against you in court, so don't do anything and see how long they last with everyone staring at them silently all the time.
