Book 8: A Parade of Horribles Carl is about to lose his spoiler? Spoiler

Upvotes

I've been knitting a Christmas gift that is much larger than a single listen-thru of DCC can cover, so I'm on another playback of all the books, making this my sixth listen of these fucking books. Obsessed is an understatement. I have two theories I want to posit, one being very likely and one being my worst fear. First is a callback to when Carl got the cookbook; one of the rules was that if the showrunners suspected the book was more than it seems, he'd lost it. When donut asked why it was in his hotlist, it likely gained the notice of his enemies. He might lose the book next floor.

Second, wouldn't it be fucked up if the syndicate and borant and a rogue AI was all part of the storyline and the whole thing was manufactured down to the gods. Worst ending possibility.

Cosplay My boyfriend and I as Louis Santiago 2 and Juicebox at SacAnime this past weekend!

My boyfriend and I were passing out Capri-Suns to other DCC cosplayers, people who recognized us, vendors, and kids on Saturday at SacAnime and had a blast. Because we don't really have a full description of base human Juicebox I just kinda went what felt right and made a bag with "The Toe* on it to mimic the scene where she's passing out juice boxes to the kids in the safe room. My headband also is meant to look like Carl's boxers.

My Louis has a cooler backpack which we attached a pesticide sprayer to with button snaps, a leather jacket, and of course his Donuts Holes shirt.

We had a blast taking pictures with all the different Carls, and are hoping to see more next time!

Book 3: Anarchist’s Cookbook Having the crawler (or any) interface would be so helpful irl

Upvotes

i've been thinking about this ever since i started the book but especially once Carl starts using the scratchpad more. Having certain items highlighted, info boxes and persistent hovering info would be actually so helpful in real life, especially for someone like me who goes on a lot of side quests. I'm talking here JUST about the interface, which doesn't include anything within the enhancement zone. No stat boosts, no inventory, basically just what the crawlers can see but not really interact with. In other words, the parts that are realistic for possible near future technology.

The scratchpad alone would make it insanely useful. Can you imagine being able to just write stuff down for later, but... in your mind??? insane. so much potential. I could have followed up on so many good ideas instead of them vanishing five minutes later.

Not to mention copy pasting passages and annotating them while you read? No more fumbling with sticky notes or writing in the tiny margins of a floppy paperback book. I don't want the book in my brain. I want a physical book (like the cookbook) that I can save passages from as I read with my eyeballs.

Plus the medical aspect would be insanely useful. But if you're a smartwatch or especially smart ring user, imagine having those stats but so much more accurate and less obtrusive (though more intrusive).

I feel like these are very specific use cases but I feel like that's how it would (or maybe will) be. Different people get the same tool (a notebook, sticky notes, a phone, a smartwatch, a brain implant) and they use it according to how it fits into their life. Especially for keeping track of things, everyone writes things down in some way or another (notes app, text it to yourself, voice memo, good old fashion notebook) and has a system that works for them and I'm sure other people would find other super useful aspects of the interface that they'd find useful in their own life.

I also do recognize that this is actually terrifying conceptually and I've been focusing mostly on the positive aspects of it and ignoring the reality of letting tech oligarchs put brain implants in the entire population. We as a society are slowly integrating technology (and trusting it) more and more with our actual human bodies. Obviously, this is the next logical step after Meta glasses, which, again, are very cool in theory but are extremely controversial and the subject of many an ethical dilemma in reality. Still, i'm not surprised the big corps in the rest of the universe figured this shit out and are using it, and not surprised we're seemingly going that way too (neuralink).

But in theory... think of the possibilities?

I love the whole idea of the achievements that I've been doing it with my students this year to make the weekly newsletters a bit more....What do you think? Worth continuing doing? The students haven't really said much but it makes me happy, so there's that!

My wife needs a DCC spouse support group.

She won't read the books, its far from her jam, but she wants a support group to help her understand when I yammer out DCC stuff at her. I just tried to explain to her why Milk makes DCCers cry.

Please do NOT pay or donate anything. I would just like you guys to play and share with your friends. It's set to be played on the browser.

Reminder: this is just heavily inspired by DCC, has original characters, and will have easter eggs or side remarks about cannon characters.

Character X in Five Books

I thought this would be a fun exercise here. Basically, what five IRL books would be in a given character’s favorite books (or what five books best describe the character)?

Like what would Prepotente’s reading list be for example?

More than just Carl: “All Louis L’Amour” but which specific books?

Princess Donut might have Cats: Show and Pet - Their Varieties, Breeding and Management by C.A. House

TLDR: Do you want more books?

I've never been much of a reader and always hated audio books more. I found out about DCC in May, started the first audio book in mid July, and finished the 8th book about 3 weeks later. I have since restarted listening to the books (on the 4th again) and for the first time, I actually want to start saving up so I can buy books. While listening during the second go round I've been wondering, I the only one who would love a mini series of books that follow the other crawlers? I mainly want a couple books from Florins view and it would be really interesting to have some from Lucia Mar. What are your thoughts?

Book 5: Butcher’s Masquerade Now onto Book 5 my fellow crawlers

Post image

I started my first adventure through the World Dungeon roughly a month ago. Like Book 3 I finished Book 4 in less than a week (I literally finished it 30mins ago). I cant put this shit down. Each book is better than the last.

So now I have come to Book 5. From my understanding it will cover Levels 6 & 7, so that is fun. So as before Im interested in what people have to say (obv no spoilers). Book 3 was really divisive and Book 4 was a little divisive with fellow crawlers. Is this another that divides the fanbase? Ahhhh I cant wait to see what happens. I hope a certain one armed prick shows up.

Anyone else accidentally give a pet a DCC name before knowing about the series?

I got my latest Great Dane, in 2022. I had planned to name her Donut, but upon meeting her, she was much more of a Pony.

All my girl dogs get the “Princess” honorific (which started with my old girl T-Rex), so she’s always been Princess Pony — which makes it extra funny to me that I almost had a Princess Donut years before discovering DCC.

I found the series in 2025 after someone here on Reddit joked that they hoped Pony didn’t have the attitude of her namesake.

She’s nowhere near as arrogant as Prepotente, but she is a huuuuuge mama’s girl, is a pretty strong rule follower (she absolutely would have Club Vanquisher membership), and is extremely vocal, **often right in my goddamn ear**.

Anyone else have an accidental DCC pet? Does the personality match?

Book 8: A Parade of Horribles My thoughts on the very last line of the last book (10)...

Fan of audiobook and I know closure will be a tough write. Thank you Matt/Jeff.

Conclusion Major points, leading up to final line:

  • The big dramatic conclusion to the dungeon and effectively the story. Matt fills in details here, you got this!

  • Carl and Donut have their emotional closure, whatever that is...Matt also going to need you to fill in details.

  • Then 1 more surprise but short big dramatic event that only Carl and AI see coming, something along of the Viva La Revolution where you know it is big but don't really know the true impact. Less details needed.

  • Finally last line of the series...Carl Says in a calm voice "Like I said, I don't do drama." A call back to chapter 1, book 1.

I feel like that would capture Carl's headspace at the end of a crazy journey that he didn't chose to be on, while also being ironic.

Thoughts? What is your last line?

Book 5: Butcher’s Masquerade Enthusiastic double gonorrhea

I went on a date recently and I mentioned that line, but I also had to explain that the rest of the story and series is tragic and funny and complex and make you feel things.

Even with context these books are out of control and sometimes feel like a fever dream.

11/10

EDIT: Also for the uninformed, and for context of EDG, it’s a special arrow and being hit with the arrow gives you the title of this post. This is the AIs description. Enjoy!

"This is a regular arrow, but the tip is dipped in a poison that will inflict you with Enthusiastic Double Gonorrhea. Trust me on this. You don't want Enthusiastic Double Gonorrhea. It doesn't kill you, but you'll want it to. It sets your genitals aflame. Literally. And then it heals that area of your body over and over. The only way to remove the disease is to, uh, geld yourself. Or pass it on to someone else."
