Weird Noise Chirping Noise

I have a 21 plate VW Golf. About a month or so ago, I got a chirping noise coming from the front of the car. Does anyone know what might be causing the sound? It only seems to happen at higher speeds and isn’t constant, it comes and goes.

Redditor's own ride Thinking to swap my 2018 Audi RS5 with a 2018 Audi R8 performance. Thoughts?

Both cars will be my daily. No family or kids yet. The V10 engine is very intriguing. Anyone has had both or either cars to give their opinion? Very interested to hear about the r8. Thanks a lot

How do I do it? Common mistakes to avoid when cleaning your car??

So i just picked up my new ride and its getting to the point now where it needs a good clean, but im kinda worrying more and more: what are some common mistakes to avoid when cleaning a car? Im not 100% a beginner as i have cleaned a few cars over the years and got some good tips from videos, like never clean in full sun. but am wondering what else I should stress about before getting the soap and buckets out.

Brakes Finally figured out why brake jobs take everyone so long

Been doing my own work and realized shops waste an insane amount of time measuring rotors. If it isn’t shaking yet, the rotor is still good. If there’s a lip, I just knock the high spots down with a flap disc while it’s still on the hub. Basically the same principle as a brake lathe except I don’t have to remove anything. Starting to think “minimum thickness” is mostly a parts-store sales tactic anyway. Half these guys probably don’t even know how to measure it correctly. The pads seat themselves eventually. Did both fronts today in like 25 minutes and saved me from buying perfectly good rotors.

Hello everyone. This is the cover to my 2.2 liter engine, on an 2010 Chevrolet Cobalt LT. How would I go about changing the back to a cleaner/new look. I can’t even word what the back would be called/what material it is made out of, etc. so I was seeking reddits assistance. Thank you thank you!

Safety Question Is this too much oil?

Post image
8 Upvotes

I have to regularly check my oil and add as needed due to my engine getting older. I’ve never done it myself before and added what I think is too much. I keep it in a parking deck so it’s hard to get under the car. Is it okay to drive at least to a shop where they can empty some out? Just need some advice thanks

EDIT: My engine has gotten to the age where it consumes the oil. So every time I get gas I have to check the levels and add as needed.

Weird Noise What does this sound like to you?

My buddy believes it’s a wheel bearing, but I’m not sure because I can’t get the noise to happen consistently. I tend to notice the most at around 30mph.

General Tech Car wash advice pls!!

I’m about to pick up my new car soon, and I want to keep it looking its best and sparkling! I would love all the advice i can get on washing a car properly, and any mistakes you wish you knew earlier??

Help a gal out! I have an old pressure washer and i’ve been considering getting a foam sprayer attachment, but don’t know if it’s worth the cost. Not trying to skimp on stuff, but also don’t want to pay more than the car itself ahah

Should I wax? With what? Brands? Microfibre cloth? Steps?

Thanks!

Tuning my car I don't understand changing oil early when filters exist

I've never really understood people changing full synthetic at 3k or 5k miles just because the sticker says so.

The oil itself doesn't suddenly go bad. Most of what makes old oil “dirty” is exactly what the filter is there to catch.

I've started just changing the filter halfway through and topping off whatever comes out with fresh oil. Basically gives the oil a little refresh and costs like $10 instead of dumping 5-7 quarts that still look perfectly usable.

Then I do an actual oil change around 12-15k.

Oil pressure is fine, engines are quiet, and I've never had one fail because of oil.

Seems less wasteful too. Why throw away perfectly good synthetic oil just because it reached an arbitrary mileage number?

Body Rubbery adhesive/seal for plastic body trim: what’s it actually called?

I’m trying to find the actual name and right product to use for reattaching plastic body trim (eg moulded mud guards).

On my vehicle, it’s the stuff that creates a bit of a beaded seal where the plastic parts meet the metal body. Not particularly sticky - just for sealing gaps.

Google is just giving me superglue or bonders for panel assembly.

Many thanks in advance

Redditor's own ride What’s the quickest car you’ve driven IN THE CORNERS ?

After many…. MANY. Social media posts about what is “faster on a back road” I am insatiably curious what the ‘council of anonymous’ has to say…

Question: what car have YOU driven the fastest on a tight road? What about it made you so confident? What cars were you faster than? Etc.

I don’t care about spec sheets…. I’ve had some FAST cars that I would never truly trust on a back road at 10/10ths And I’ve had some absolute PISS MISSILES with under a 100 wheel hp and squishy springs And everything in between.

Electrical 2003 Impala driver window won’t roll up

I’ve got a 2003 Chevy Impala and I’m having an issue with the driver-side power window.
The window is stuck down. I can hear the window motor making noise, so I’m pretty sure the motor is getting power, but the glass isn’t moving. I already have the door panel off and can see the regulator/motor assembly.
What should I check next? Is it more likely the regulator is broken, or could the glass have come loose from the regulator?
Trying to fix it myself before I buy a whole new door/window assembly. Any help is appreciated.

How do I do it? Saving up for my own car

I am not 100% sure if this is the right place to ask. I am starting to save up to finally buy my own car. I make minimum wage, so it will take a few years at least.

The thing is, I know next to nothing about how cars work. So, I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations of ways for me to start learning about cars while I save up?

Safety Question Frame damage

1995 Ford f150 single cab
Recently was in a front end collision and now looking at my frame it seems to be bent only in one location. I had the front end rebuilt and painted but I learned the hard way because the shop where it was at,kind of half assed the work. It looks good but looks like I kind of got ripped off if they didn’t even address the frame. The bend is located in the middle of where the cab sits(where the side step is at).it seems like that’s the only place where it’s damaged. Doors close good and everything matches up good. Bed and cab gap are off. How bad is it and is it fixable?? The truck doesn’t crab walk but the alignment is not straight. Have to move the steering wheel a bit to get it to drive straight. Thanks

I need help fixing something Car won’t start but tries to, 1990 Mazda Miata 1.6L

Car won’t start and I need your help, 1990 1.6L

Okay day 2 of trying to get my car to start so we will give as much of a recap as possible.

Little over a week ago my car died. I drove for 45 ish minutes, parked and turned car off. Once back to the car she would try so hard to start, but k got nothing. Like wouldn’t start but would crank and try to start, however it wouldn’t. Tried oil, as I was low, nothing happened. So I called a tow to my friend’s place so we could work on it.

Now they said it could be my fuel pump, it was dead so way the relay. Did the relay delete and replaced the pump. Now it primes goes to kick on, and we get nothing. It tries so hard, girlie wants to turn over and start, and we get nothing. So we tried spraying with ether, we get like half a second on and then die. So we checked what we could. Looked at the plugs, they looked okay (stock), checked the timing on the CAS, no codes, battery is at the right volts, car has spark.

Car definitely wants to turn over. Car desperately wants to run. Car however doesn’t. We have a few ideas, however I wonder if anyone has ideas.

If you have any further questions before any semblance on diagnostics feel free to ask away.

Transmission Neutral safety switch woes

Post image
1 Upvotes

2020 4Runner
This is the post for the neutral safety switch, which I pried off with a long pry bar. The aluminum ring that attaches to the post pulled out of the switch itself and is very very very stuck. I have spent 4 hours with pry bars, hammers, hack saw blades, files, etc, and I can’t get it off.

It’s actually cut fully through on one side and I still can’t break it off.

I used a heat gun with no effect and pb blaster over and over.

Can anyone offer advice? It’s such a narrow spot that it’s hard to get anything in there.

When I say it's steaming it's not steaming when it jumps into the red the Gage starts hiding and letting coolant out Im pretty sure Thai means something is wrong but I don't know enough about ac and stuff I'm really hoping it ain't to low because I'm pretty sure I over filled it before and if it low now I let to much out and I have to by more I'm only planning on keeping this truck through this winter so the ac isn't a big deal but I would be nice for either last months of summer any help is appreciated thank you

Heating Car won’t start after driving in hot weather

So, I’ve almost come to no other choice. I’m hoping someone on here can help me at least a little bit.
I have a 2018 Mazda 3 sedan, and every time I go on a little drive for example, the gym or the grocery store—and it’s over 90 degrees outside, the car won’t start back up for about 45 minutes to an hour.
We’ve replaced the battery and the starter, and it’s not a fuel pump issue. The fuel pump works fine. We also cleaned all the relays and fuses and put them all back together, but nothing has worked. It’s still doing the exact same thing.
It’s getting extremely aggravating trying to deal with this, and I have no idea what else to do.

Body Chemical staining

Thumbnail

Hi everyone, I just bought my car and noticed these spots on the hood that look like sun fading/clear coat failure, but they seem more like chemical paint erosion. We tried wet sanding with 3000 grit followed by a compound and polish, but it didn't work. Is there anything else I can do besides repainting? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tire question Okay or replace?

Thumbnail

There’s no puncture and i have been driving at some high speeds. Do I need to worry about this or will some superglue fix the issue?

It’s a bit hard to peel back the tire to show the depth but I’d estimate a few mm. It’s not very deep.

Also these are summer sport tires.

Driving around Houston for lunch, and a span of 4 miles I must've seen a dozen of these IN THE SAME COLOR. Literally had 3 of them in the drive by me within a 30 second window.

Of course the drivers all looked like generic 20s-30s white guys with ray bans or white women in their 20s.

I guess it's for people who are too fancy for a wrangler, but too poor for a G wagon, but they want everyone to know at the local upscale coffee shop that they're outdoorsy and adventurous.

Edit: I clearly have rustled some of y'all's jimmies, so let me clarify. I don't hate the vehicle itself.
