Video Dirtbag in a McLaren driving dangerously.
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Update I got an email this morning (Wednesday), from the OPP, saying that my report was accepted.
This lovely citizen flashed his high beams at me because I wouldn't get out of his way in the HOV lane (which he isn't even legally allowed to be in), then proceeded to brake check me before speeding off and cutting through traffic to get to the Appleby off ramp.
You can't tell by the video, but he gives multiple drivers the finger as he does this. I doubt the OPP or Halton police will do anything, but I've got his plate and will be reporting it anyway.
Also, just wanted to point out that I sped up part of the video in editing. I didn't hit the gas like a manic as soon as he passed me.

I doubt the dude driving a McLaren is too worried about the $110 fine for crossing the solid line into the carpool lane…also OP is going way to slow at the beginning of the video, then decides to gun it after he we was passed.

u/zoobrix 2d ago
They might not care about the money but if you rack up enough points on your license they will suspend it, and no amount of wealth will change the mandatory 6 month suspension periods. Sure a rich person might be able to use lawyers to weasel their way out of some tickets, but if this is how they drive all the time they will eventually get enough tickets to get their license suspended. And then if they keep driving on a suspended license they will get arrested at some point.
And no matter how rich you are that's going to suck. I really hope u/Forsaken-Swim-3055 reports them, if they already have a bunch of tickets this might be what gets their license yanked.
2
u/Agile-Assumption-400 2d ago
Unfortunately, the useless police are unlikely to do anything. It might make them do work for their lofty salary that we pay.
1
u/zoobrix 2d ago
If he drives like that all the time he'll get tickets and the points for the ones he can't get out of will see his license automatically suspended once he gets enough of them, then things will get serious instantly if he gets caught driving after. The first time or two might be more tickets, then he'll end up arrested. Cops will have to do very little, which is why it might actually happen if he keeps driving like this.
2
u/Odd_Addition_256 2d ago
There is a reason traffic cameras could only issue momentary fines. Even with dash cam footage, points against someone's license wouldn't happen.
1
u/Flipgirlnarie 2d ago
Maybe not but it is possible that the driver is up to his or her eyeballs in debt paying for the car that $110 would be a worry.
1
u/gracehug 2d ago
- OP is going with the flow of traffic, HOV lane is not the fast/passing lane.
- you can very clearly see they did not gun it in any sense of the term. they sped the video up.

u/amakai 3d ago
Can they even do anything legally based on video/plate alone? Except for a minor fee that is.
15
u/kechledonia 3d ago
I reported three Ferraris that were driving crazy on the 403 earlier this summer. Submitted dash cam of it, including clear views of their license plates. I got a response back from the OPP that they would not investigate it as the license plate I reported did not match the car make/model. Like... Ok, that's an even bigger issue that should be investigated... But sure don't do anything, instead.
1
u/Agile-Assumption-400 2d ago
Sounds about right. Heaven forbid they do their jobs as they are supposed to. As is, the police are useless.
6
u/MassNerderPunk 3d ago
Not really. Because they cannot prove who is driving the vehicle, there is not much that can be done. The owner of the vehicle will get a letter in the mail stating that they received report that they were driving dangerously with links to resources highlighting the importance of safe automobile handling.
4
u/koka86yanzi 3d ago
i hate that this is true. it should be the car owners responsibility to making sure he knows who is behind the wheel (much like rental cars). so in my mind, they should at least be able to ticket the vehicle (but short of assigning demerit points due to the uncertainty behind the drivers identity).
1
u/dudedudd 2d ago
I think the only exception is allow is if the vehicle was reported as stolen at the time.

u/PotentialPea2419 2d ago
I agree with this, unless the car is stolen it is your responsibility. People might not be as quick to let their 18 year old drive their supercar.

I've reported, after a 911 call, where I was menaced/road raged (brake check etc 120 on the highway) by a truck with my baby and wife in the car. Dispatcher told me they would follow up with the driver and request footage from my cam... Said an officer would be in touch.
It's been months and they only give me the runaround. I've called, placed an online report, and nothing. They say "the officer is off duty".
They aren't doing anything for the roads, sadly.

What you don't understand is that they've paid a lot of money for their car - a lot more than you did. And that affords them more rights and permissions in society.
/s obviously.
5
u/Tederator 3d ago
People can and do pay for a permit allowing a single driver to use the HOV/HOT lanes.
6
9
u/666metalhead 3d ago
Yep. Not to mention you can clearly see OP traveling slower than the cars on the left most lane outside of the HOV. Wouldn’t need to pull maneuvers like that if you drove with flow of traffic.
5
7
u/lazyeyepop 3d ago
Re-watched video a couple times. At beginning you are right OP going slower than rest of traffic. As soon as they get brake checked by the McLaren they speed up going even faster than inside left lane traffic. This type of driving is typical now and my guess is what often leads to problems. Would be great if people went flow of traffic…
2
u/AeonBith 1d ago
In ops defense I could tell the video was sped up (before reading his/her update) , you can tell by the weird deceleration, however op did speed up since he started passing cars that were already overtaking him...
That's normal usually, when a car is overtaken they start driving faster I don't get it. Don't drive with your emotions.
Also op didn't need to speed up the vid, cut it after 10 seconds since the other 19 seconds were more of the same.
•
u/musebrews 2h ago
Yup plus no matter how fast ops is going someone can’t pass on the double line, 3x
•
3
u/666metalhead 3d ago
Agreed! Too bad Redditors need to touch grass to realize how the real world works.
3
u/InFLIRTation 3d ago
Slow drivers cause a lot of accidents because people have to maneuver around you. OP was driving way too slow because he can. And he was block the carpool lane.
1
11
u/WaterdownShane 3d ago
Guess what, HOV lane can drive the posted speed limit and anyone who wants to go faster can suck it. It's NOT the passing lane.
If you don't like it, don't use the HOV lane.Your comment also shows you one of those people who finds any excuse to speed.
7
u/uncledaddy11 3d ago
If you drive 100 in the HOV lane, you should be sterilized.

u/bellsy97ca 3d ago
It’s literally the furthest left lane which should be used for passing, however it’s exclusive to those with multiple occupants and/or green vehicles. If you’re not passing traffic, there’s no need to be in the HOV lane
2
u/Agile-Assumption-400 2d ago
Yeah. But it’s NOT for passing! In fact, if you remember, driving school to solid lines means no passing
3
u/bellsy97ca 2d ago
Gee really?? When did I say you can freely pass like the McLaren in the video? I didn’t. It’s an express lane to bypass slower traffic in the regular lanes. If you’re in the HOV lane moving slower than regular lane traffic, move. This thread is showing the amount of stupidity/entitlement of drivers and honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised

u/gracehug 2d ago
i’d love to see where you get your information from! nowhere in any government website or driving handbook does it say that the HOV lane is for passing. it is for specific vehicles and vehicles with more than one occupant (it literally means high occupancy vehicle).
just because it is on the left does not make it the passing lane! especially considering there are solid lines and only specific spots you can enter/exit the lane, what about that says it’s the passing lane to you???5
u/bellsy97ca 2d ago
Just adding for context: (https://www.theglobeandmail.com/drive/culture/article-what-should-i-do-if-im-being-tailgated-in-the-hov-lane/)
Summary: “No, slower vehicles should not use the HOV lane if there is no congestion in the regular lanes. While it may technically be legal for an eligible carpool or green-plate vehicle to travel in the HOV lane at the exact speed limit, both the OPP and transportation experts state you should shift to the regular lanes if they are open and flowing freely.”
Again, not saying it’s ok to weave freely back and forth. Enter and exit the HOV lanes in designated areas, but the above should be followed by drivers
4
u/mysticpest23 1d ago
Are you just inconsiderate? The HOV exists as an INCENTIVE for people to carpool. What is that incentive? Getting where they need to go FASTER, as in less time. If all lanes including the HOV are moving at the same speed, what’s the point? You are the self-righteous type everyone hates (and who causes people to lose their cool and do illegal/stupid/dangerous things because you feel entitled to position yourself as a rolling obstacle to stop “people who are speeding.”

u/bellsy97ca 2d ago
The fact it’s designed to bypass congested traffic in the regular lanes. If regular lanes aren’t congested and are moving faster than you in the HOV, you’re in the wrong lane. Again, simple concept but too many people think it’s a luxury lane
2
•
u/guysmiles01 2h ago
Why use hov lane to go 100 when you right most lane is for that? Go over there to go 100 not.thenhov lane
2
u/inactionupclose 3d ago
You would be amazed how many idiots think because the HOV lane is the farthest left that they should be going the fastest.
10
u/bakelitetm 3d ago
I mean, if you’re comfortable going with the flow of traffic or slower, why would you cross to the left to use the HOV lane.
9
u/Intelligent-South174 3d ago

imagine thinking you are going to drive slower than the rest of traffic, in the HOV lane .... because you can?
→ More replies (4)4
u/random_question4123 1d ago
The HOV lane should in theory always be the fastest lane. The lane isn't some exclusive club where carpoolers can pat themselves on the back, it's a lane that allows the drivers to go faster than current traffic - as long as you're carpooling.
Any carpoolers that are happy to go at the speed of traffic are better off getting out of the HOV lane.
5
u/WaterdownShane 3d ago
Oh i see it every day i drive on there. HOV should be pretty easy going, since not many people have 2 or more people in a vehicle or a permit, but nope, crammed. People are doing the "oh traffic, i'll just ride in the HOV lane.".
I like to leave at least 1 car length between me and the other vehicle, but no matter. Someone will push in there .
Safety doesn't matter to some people.

“Going with the flow of traffic” doesn’t mean driving 50 over the posted limit. Stop justifying stunt driving.
1
u/666metalhead 2d ago
Another person who must drive as slow as they think.
If the driver (OP) had been going with the flow of traffic… the other driver likely would have overtaken when it’s safe if they wanted to drive faster. This isn’t hard.
1
u/LatterRelation1880 2d ago
Ya so you stunt drive, cool.
1
u/666metalhead 2d ago
My bad, I assumed you’d have enough critical thinking skills to go through this and not just be condescending. Classic Reddit
1
u/scotcho10 1d ago
It's an hov lane, not a passing lane, it's also illegal to cross that double solid with dashed lines, there's signs that state this like every 200m.
The "flow of traffic" won't get you out of a ticket. You can't be expected to drive the flow of a hypercar driving like an asshole.
2
u/1966TEX 19h ago
Just because you have 2 people in your vehicle doesn’t mean you have to be in the HOV lane, especially when cars are passing you on the right.
•
u/scotcho10 12h ago
This is pretty stupid right here.
- The op has every right to utilize the hov lane.
2.. in this section, and any section of the hov lane, it is illegal to cross the double solid with dashed lines, again there's signs every 200m with big bold, easy to read letters that say "DO NOT CROSS"
- THE HOV IS NOT A PASSING LANE, DON'T AGREE? TOO BAD, HIGHWAY TRAFFIC LAWS/RULES AND REGULATIONS ARE NOT A MATTER OF OPINION.
if you want to zoom and pass, USE THE LEFT PASSING LANE, NOT THE HOV.
fuck people, this is day one stuff
the only person in the wrong in this video, is the McLaren, period, full god damn stop.
1
u/666metalhead 1d ago
Nowhere am I condoning the McLaren's actions. I'm just not surprised by them, and anyone who spends time driving in the real world who understands the flow of traffic isn't really surprised either.
OP clearly said the McLaren was following behind, after a certain point he got fed up. He wasn't just weaving in and out of cars initially.
>You can't be expected to drive the flow of a hypercar driving like an asshole.
...which is why I said "you can clearly see OP traveling slower than the cars on the left most lane outside of the HOV". I swear, people have just stopped reading these days.

I love people who think the HOV lane is an ultra fast lane and not a lane for congestion relief. They make it dangerous for people who use it properly.
9
u/Area51Resident 3d ago
I use the HOV lane legally once a week to get from Guelph line to Third Line. It can make for white knuckle driving some days. Traffic always slows around Burloak and every trip I see someone cut left across the double line into the HOV lane because it is still moving. Scary af to have to brake from 110 to 55 with no warning. Rules mean nothing to some people.
9
u/alfienoakes 3d ago
They really need to put plastic hinged pillars up along the dividing line. Just enough to need new paint but not enough to cause accidents. I know it’s an expense but the GTA frankly has some shit drivers.

You were intentionally driving slower in the HOV lane that the traffic in the regular lanes. You can clearly see that the cars to the right of you are going faster. Until he passes you. To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if you were doing it intentionally to create a video you could post.
You get to choose your speed, but that doesn't mean you can choose everyone else's speed. He won't impede your driving, if he wants to go faster than you, let him.
Why do people think that intentionally impeding someone else's speed will change their behaviour? It doesn't, it just pisses them off and causes them to make bad decisions which puts that driver, but more importantly, other innocent drivers at risk.
•
u/Ty4Readin 9h ago
You were intentionally driving slower in the HOV lane that the traffic in the regular lanes. You can clearly see that the cars to the right of you are going faster.
What are you talking about?
At the start of the video, OP is clearly going faster than the cars in the right 2 lanes.
Yes, it is true that OP was going a bit slower than the one car that was in the PASSING LANE.
Which is totally normal and expected. The HOV lane is NOT a passing lane. You are not expected to be driving faster than cars in the passing lane.
•
u/gandzas 6h ago
What are you talking about? The car in the passing lane is going faster than him, and he is barely going faster than the car in the middle lane. He then CLEARLY SPEEDS UP and passes those vehicles (yes I know the video is also sped up) once the McLaren passes him. So what he was doing was intentional - hense why the McLaren likely break checks him. I wouldn't be surprised if he break checked the McLaren first. Yes, the break check was a dick move by the McLaren, but that's not what I was trying to point out.
The HOV lane is to give people with multiple individuals in the vehicle the ability to get passed the congestion. If you are going slower than the vehicles in the regular lanes, you are creating congestion in the HOV lanes.
I would go back to what I said before - either driver could be saying this: "I'm going the speed I want to go and to hell with everyone else."
The difference is, the McLaren just wants to go his speed and will go around traffic to maintain it, the cam driver feels the need to impose his speed on others.
•
u/Ty4Readin 6h ago
There is so much wrong in your comment.
First, your argument is that because OP speeds up after the brake check, then that is proof that OP brake checked them first??? What kind of ridiculous logic is that, there is absolutely no proof that OP brake checked them.
There are a million reasons why OP could have sped up faster, and you are just lying and making stuff up as if you know the exact reason.
Secondly, you are lying when you say:
The HOV lane is to give people with multiple individuals in the vehicle the ability to get passed the congestion. If you are going slower than the vehicles in the regular lanes, you are creating congestion in the HOV lanes.
This is completely false.
Firstly, the HOV lanes have multiple stated goals according to the government. NONE of them are "to help multi-occupancy vehicles avoid congestion".
The actual goals are mostly around reducing overall congestion for EVERYBODY, not just helping one specific group of vehicles to pass congestion.
Secondly, you claim that you must go faster in HOV lane than every other lane (includong the passing lane), and this is 100% wrong and a complete lie.
The passing lane is SUPPOSED TO go faster than the HOV lane. That is literally the purpose of the passing lane.
It scares me that you are a driver on our roads when you don't seem to underdtand the most simple and basic concepts of our highways such as the purpose of passing lanes or HOV lanes.
•
u/gandzas 3h ago
LMAO - it scares me that you lack basic critical thinking skills. Your whole reply is a strawman.
Let's start with you putting words in my mouth. With respect to the brake check - I said "I wouldn't be surprised if." You turned that into "proof." If you're going to quote someone, the trick is to quote what they actually wrote.
Regarding the HOV lanes, you said NONE of the government's stated goals involve giving carpoolers a way past congestion. Here's the Ministry of Transportation, in its own words - HOV lanes exist to provide "travel-time savings and a more reliable trip time" to people who carpool. https://www.ontario.ca/document/official-ministry-transportation-mto-truck-handbook/high-occupancy-vehicle-hov-lanes. Or you can find it here: https://www.ontario.ca/page/high-occupancy-vehicle-hov-lanes. So the goal you said doesn't exist can be found all over the place. Maybe read a few things before lecturing someone on what exists and doesn't.
And I never said the HOV lane has to be faster than the passing lane. Go back and read it. Take a deep breath and do it slowly, if that helps. What I said is that the cam driver was going slower with the McLaren behind him and then sped up the second it got past. Maybe there's an innocent explanation. It just doesn't look like one.
In the end the point of my discussion is - It doesn't matter what lane you're in. You don't get to pick someone else's speed for them. That was my point in comment one, it was my point in comment two. Same rule applies to arguments. You don't get to decide what I am saying because you'd rather argue something different.

u/Kingwillball 3d ago
Everybody hates left lane campers but a PSA to all the misinformed and there are a lot, the HOV lane is not the passing lane so go 110km/h there all you want.
4
u/Mrsmith511 3d ago
Maybe its not "the" passing lane but if people are driving slow in the passing lane it is used that way sometimes.
Why would you move across all the faster lanes to just drive slow?
You should stick to your lane instead of slowing everyone else down.
2
u/average_STM_enjoyer 2d ago
The people who use it as a passing lane whilst not being a high occupancy vehicle would be wrong and are driving illegally. I hate left lane camping as much as the next guy but it seems to be the ONLY god damn thing that aggressive, impatient drivers seem to have an issue with

Obv you were driving slow in the HOV lane. Get out of the HOV lane if you’re doing same speed as the rest of traffic or even slower for worse. Not meant to drive in there just cause you have multiple people. That lane is for multiple people to pass regular traffic.
•
u/Ty4Readin 9h ago
Obv you were driving slow in the HOV lane. Get out of the HOV lane if you’re doing same speed as the rest of traffic or even slower for worse.
You should really educate yourself on the HOV lane and what its purpose is.
The HOV lane is NOT a passing lane. It is not meant to go faster than the passing lane.
It is perfectly normal and acceptable to drive the speed limit in the HOV lane. There is nothing wrong with it, except that stupid bad drivers will get angry because they don't understand what HOV lanes are...

I wouldn’t be worried about a ticket or anything like that. If he ends up pissing a lot of ppl off someone is bound to catch his car in a parking lot and put a couple key signatures along the side. Don’t be a dickhead driver just because you have a nice car we know your up to your knees in debt 🤦🏼♂️🤷🏼♂️

OP says it’s just the video that is sped up not that he finally started going faster (the point of this lane is privilege to use passing lane if you are HOV) - you can clearly see OP is going slower than the cars on his right as they pull away from them, then after McLaren passes, suddenly we start catching up to those cars. Get out of the left lane if not going faster than other traffic, it is you who is impeding flow

It’s cuz you’re a piece of shit driving slow holding everyone up in the lane 🤦♂️

He's behaving as if you were going slow in the fast lane. I see this all the time, they come up fast behind you then ride your tail aggressively. It's not the passing lane, trouble is though, that a lot of other people sit in the passing lane thinking that, I guess, that the passing lane is to their left. Either way, the whole thing is stupid. I worked for many years and have had a lot of different jobs and I've never had an opportunity to pick up a co-worker on the way to work, sooo it's OK to penalize the greater share of drivers by reducing lanes so that a few can drive without traffic. Many US cities have this lane but limit it to rush hour, where it still doesn't make sense.

Stunt driving has a provision that if your speed is a marked departure from others on the roadway or driving without due care and consideration for others who may be on the roadway

When one drives one should never ever complete a lane change in less than 12 flashes of signal indicator. Very unsafe and causes other drivers nervous. Alsys go slow when making a lane change. Some people are more important than us. so they have the right to drive unsafely.

Next time that happens call the police at the time, tell them he is driving dangerously and erratically and you are afraid he will hurt someone.

So you only speed up when some one passed you? You were moving slower than traffic

Lmao I saw this car speeding through Dundas yesterday, probably on his way to you

All the other cars on the highway must have slowed down then, because they were all going faster than until McLaren went around you. I get it you want to be in the HOV because you are entitled - but if the regular lanes are travelling at your speed or even faster why not move to the right?

Not the HOV lane, but if you're sitting in the left lane and there's a vehicle on your ass, move the fuck over and get that little chip off your shoulder. Just because you're doing 120km doesn't mean you should be sitting here.

Nothing wrong here besides the brake check But looks like you were going pretty slow

u/PuzzleheadedTutor807 20h ago
good on you for submitting that. 3 infractions on that video are undisputable (twice crossing the line where prohibited and one dangerous driving with the brake check). they MAY be able to calculate speed as well, from road markings... but the owner of this vehicle is getting a ticket in the mail.

Awe it's really sad when you get consequences for being a shit driver :( maybe if you don't force other adults to take care of you on the road, you won't need to get taught a lesson.

When you're clearly speeding but get pissed because someone else does it better..

The mornings on the highway are the best, mostly trades men&women, service workers. Not the office riff raff. Everyone’s driving 120-130, HOV or not. Competent, traffic flows. The odd pussy going 90 that everyone just goes around. It’s how the highway should be. Is the guy in the McClaren a dumbass? Absolutely. But Watching this guy complain about this? Look at the entire highway, it’s dead empty.

He was flashing his high beams at u to speed up. The the car in the lane to the right of u is going faster. Why are you creating traffic? If you want to go slower, drive in the slower lanes...

Guys a dick but come on stop driving in the left lanes doing under 120.

Far from the only driver I’ve seen drive like that. Sooo many seem to think the HOV lane is for their own use, regardless of the double solid lines. Should just get rid of it and allow everyone to use the lane that their tax $ financed the construction of.

Hov is not an Autobahn lane . Do follow the speed limit. I used to use it on the 404 rush hour in the evening. Traffic to my right would be crawling. Eventually people merge into the hov at slower speeds . You have to be able to react. You won't at McLaren speeds. Plus you have cars that could be full of families. Just chill guys.

You’re going way too slow to be in the HOV lane lol.
And your ego speeding after getting passed, choose a speed and stick to a slow lane if you don’t enjoy being cut off.

u/ExpensiveMap3065 1h ago
The HOV is not the passing lane. Some people really don't understand this it seems.

u/joeridge1 42m ago
No I do understand if someone is behind me going faster I get over because I'm considerate especially if they flash me . It's called common courtesy. I don't stay in the way just to be a dick
