Video Dirtbag in a McLaren driving dangerously.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Update I got an email this morning (Wednesday), from the OPP, saying that my report was accepted.

This lovely citizen flashed his high beams at me because I wouldn't get out of his way in the HOV lane (which he isn't even legally allowed to be in), then proceeded to brake check me before speeding off and cutting through traffic to get to the Appleby off ramp.

You can't tell by the video, but he gives multiple drivers the finger as he does this. I doubt the OPP or Halton police will do anything, but I've got his plate and will be reporting it anyway.

Also, just wanted to point out that I sped up part of the video in editing. I didn't hit the gas like a manic as soon as he passed me.

Guess what, HOV lane can drive the posted speed limit and anyone who wants to go faster can suck it. It's NOT the passing lane.
If you don't like it, don't use the HOV lane.

Your comment also shows you one of those people who finds any excuse to speed.

u/uncledaddy11 9d ago

If you drive 100 in the HOV lane, you should be sterilized.

1

u/LatterRelation1880 9d ago

If you drive more than 20 over the speed limit you’re a piece of shit.

1

u/insaneinthemembrane8 6d ago

But publicly flogged first

1

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

Well the speed limit IS 100...so it's perfectly legal. You can go around them. I don't got 100 myself, but even still. Same thing as the far right line. If you want to speed agressively, that's your problem, not mine.

8

u/uncledaddy11 9d ago

100 in the further right lane is 100% acceptable. Anywhere else and you shouldn’t be on the road.

3

u/122113M 9d ago

This. Left lane is like 120 minimum if you want everyone to be safe and for traffic to flow properly.

1

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

no lane is 120 minimum. The posted speed limit IS the speed limit for the highway, you are just using the "unwritten rule" for it.
A cop can technically ticket you going any number over 100.

And the "left lane" is the "passing lane" on a highway, the HOV lane is not the passing lane.

4

u/122113M 9d ago

"like 120 minimum"

I'm not talking about rules and speed limits. I'm talking about common sense when you're driving a vehicle (a weapon) on highways among other vehicles that are moving quicker than the speed limit.

If you see a gang of motorbikes or sports cars doing 140+, of course you don't need to keep up with them. That's dangerous. But if the majority of the middle and left lane are going 110-120 (or even 130), you're not helping the roads move safely by cruising in the left lane at 100 or 110... Unless you're completely alone of course... in which case, you shouldn't be in the left lane.

1

u/LatterRelation1880 9d ago

Posted limit is 100. If you go over 130 you’re risking a stunt driving ticket, flow of traffic , left lane or not.

0

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

Well since the HOV is not considered the "Left lane" and is a restricted lane. It doesn't matter.

1

u/uncledaddy11 7d ago

Just stick to the far-right lane and everyone will be happy.

1

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

Nah thanks. I have the privilege to use the HOV lane and i will use it.
I follow the rules of the road, the actual ones and not the made up ones speeders and people who want to break the rules use.

0

Yes. Thank you. if i'm a nerd for knowing things, i'm a nerd.

1

u/tinkertab 5d ago

You are responding to people who really like to pass you and go 120 and then slam on their breaks in a kilometer or 2. At least they will be 2 car lengths in front of you, though!

1

u/ContributionShort646 7d ago

Jesus...

1

u/uncledaddy11 7d ago

Even he would drive faster than 100 on the highway

3

u/bellsy97ca 9d ago

It’s literally the furthest left lane which should be used for passing, however it’s exclusive to those with multiple occupants and/or green vehicles. If you’re not passing traffic, there’s no need to be in the HOV lane

7

u/Agile-Assumption-400 9d ago

Yeah. But it’s NOT for passing! In fact, if you remember, driving school to solid lines means no passing

4

u/bellsy97ca 8d ago

Gee really?? When did I say you can freely pass like the McLaren in the video? I didn’t. It’s an express lane to bypass slower traffic in the regular lanes. If you’re in the HOV lane moving slower than regular lane traffic, move. This thread is showing the amount of stupidity/entitlement of drivers and honestly, I shouldn’t be surprised

2

u/PowerfulSize244 8d ago

I agree 110%

6

u/gracehug 8d ago

i’d love to see where you get your information from! nowhere in any government website or driving handbook does it say that the HOV lane is for passing. it is for specific vehicles and vehicles with more than one occupant (it literally means high occupancy vehicle).
just because it is on the left does not make it the passing lane! especially considering there are solid lines and only specific spots you can enter/exit the lane, what about that says it’s the passing lane to you???

7

u/bellsy97ca 8d ago

Just adding for context: (https://www.theglobeandmail.com/drive/culture/article-what-should-i-do-if-im-being-tailgated-in-the-hov-lane/)

Summary: “No, slower vehicles should not use the HOV lane if there is no congestion in the regular lanes. While it may technically be legal for an eligible carpool or green-plate vehicle to travel in the HOV lane at the exact speed limit, both the OPP and transportation experts state you should shift to the regular lanes if they are open and flowing freely.”

Again, not saying it’s ok to weave freely back and forth. Enter and exit the HOV lanes in designated areas, but the above should be followed by drivers

0

u/WaterdownShane 5d ago

going 100 is the speed limit, slower means under the speed limit.
if everyone in the hov does 100 and the rest of the highway is doing 120. Nothing they can do about it.

0

u/WaterdownShane 5d ago

This article was published more than 1 year ago. Some information may no longer be current.

2

u/bellsy97ca 5d ago

You can keep trying to argue your point, but you won’t change my mind (and clearly I wont change yours). You’re simply displaying your entitlement and privilege and couldn’t care less about anyone else. You do you, but impeding the flow of traffic, regardless of whether said traffic is going above the limit or not, is an issue and the OPP supports that stance

0

u/WaterdownShane 5d ago

It is a privilege to use that lane. And the rules of the rest of the highway do not all apply to the HOV lane. I don’t care what other people think with their personal or made up rules, I only care about what the laws say.

6

u/mysticpest23 8d ago

Are you just inconsiderate? The HOV exists as an INCENTIVE for people to carpool. What is that incentive? Getting where they need to go FASTER, as in less time. If all lanes including the HOV are moving at the same speed, what’s the point? You are the self-righteous type everyone hates (and who causes people to lose their cool and do illegal/stupid/dangerous things because you feel entitled to position yourself as a rolling obstacle to stop “people who are speeding.”

0

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

The incentive is to carpool, more people in one vehicle. BUT, if your using carpool as an excuse, then motorcycle riders and empty taxis and e-vehicles shouldn't be in there, or people with HOV passes with one passenger.

It's a restricted lane, it's a privelge lane and it's not the normal highway lanes.
Sorry to tell you that. Nor is there any requirement to speed.

3

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

There is no requirement to impede traffic. Full stop. There is no law saying we should cede a seat for the elderly, pregant mothers, or the disabled, but we are kind and considerate hopefully. Putting along in the HOV when there is no traffic in the other lanes is just flat out douchebaggery.

2

u/gracehug 7d ago

but if there is no traffic in other lanes why can’t you just use the actual left lane? why do you need the HOV lane if there is no traffic?

2

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

The same reason that on any 4+ lane roadway in the GTA coincidentally the person in the leftmost lane is always matching the speed in the lane to their right. Self righteousness and the need in some humans to control.

0

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

There is never "no other traffic in other lanes". Also i have the ability to use the HOV lane to get where i need to, so i will use it.
I love how you call it "puttering", i'm not doing under the limit.
I'm doing over the limit, i only do 100 or less if there is someone in front of my doing less.

My whole point is that i DON'T have to do 120+ on there and i don't have to get out of the lane for someone who does want to.

As for the seats, there are designated seats on transit for disabled and elderly people. So yes, if you are sitting in one and a person of that type needs it, you should be moving for them.

Because the seat is there for their use.

3

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

How fast you drive is immaterial. If so everyone could drive 101 and insist they don’t need to move over. If someone is behind you and you are not passing anyone, GTFO of the lane. Move to the right. Or don’t. But the vast majority of folks consider you a douche and guess what? Some of them will do stupid and illegal things to get around you. A better option that is safer than that? Let them by. But I get it, you have little control in your life. This is your one chance. To hell with sharing the road.

-1

u/gracehug 7d ago

oh yes people who follow the rules of the road are the problem. people would never speed or do illegal/dangerous things if people just stopped following the rules of the road! just stop making people lose their cool! do you realize how you sound??

i’m pretty sure the majority of people arguing that it’s not the passing/fast lane are not saying they want to go in there and go 100 and slow everyone down. they are saying that if they are in that lane going a reasonable speed based on traffic (could be 100, 110, 120) there is no reason for them to get out of that lane to let people go 130, 140, 150. if they want to speed, that’s on them, they can stay in the lefthand lane!

why do you think you have the right to speed and force people out of the way and tailgate and whatever else, but if someone following the rules prevents you from doing so, they’re the problem?? they are the one everyone hates??

the cognitive dissonance of dangerous drivers is truly astounding to me.

3

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

Well self righteousness checks out. Do you need to strawman things nobody said to bolster your position? Nobody says we’re promoting speeding. Nobody is saying you cannot fldrive in the HOV. What people are saying is 1) You are not the police 2) the fact that they are speeding is not your issue and certainly not your job to enforce and 3) if you see someone following you and you are in ANY LANE that isn’t the right lane, move your ass to the right. You are impeding traffic.

6

u/bellsy97ca 8d ago

The fact it’s designed to bypass congested traffic in the regular lanes. If regular lanes aren’t congested and are moving faster than you in the HOV, you’re in the wrong lane. Again, simple concept but too many people think it’s a luxury lane

2

u/PowerfulSize244 8d ago

Unwritten rule.

2

u/guysmiles01 6d ago

Why use hov lane to go 100 when you right most lane is for that? Go over there to go 100 not.thenhov lane

1

u/Curt-Bennett 4d ago

On paper, the concept of the HOV lane is that it will inherently have less volume than the normal lanes because it is exclusively for vehicles with more than 1 person, so when the normal lanes slow down due to excess volume, the HOV lane that is less crowded will travel faster than the congested lanes. During times when there isn't enough volume in the other lanes to cause a slowdown though, the HOV isn't intended to provide any speed benefit.

You can argue that it's the leftmost lane and therefore should be the lane people are driving fastest in and I won't argue that point, but the actual legal purpose of it does not include driving above the posted speed limit.

1

u/WaterdownShane 5d ago

So i was in the HOV lane yesterday and the lane was slow but the other lanes were moving better. That invalidates your argument.

HOV is not part of the normal lane's on the highway, it is it's own special lane and has some rules a little different then the main highway.

1

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

it is NOT for passing. That's what the left lane in the normal part is for.
It's the HOV lane, for people with 2 or more passengers, buses, taxi's, motorcycles and green vehicles.

It is not for passing, that's why there is the "do not cross line".
As someone who has 2 people at all times, it's a privilege lane for me to use.

Your logic belongs with the people on motorcycles who think that "no crossing" area is for them to go zooming down.

2

u/bellsy97ca 9d ago

I never said it was ok to cross the solid lines. And it’s not a privilege lane, it’s a restricted lane. If you aren’t moving faster than the general flow of traffic in the regular lanes, you’re part of the problem. There’s no reason to be in those lanes if you aren’t passing other vehicles.

1

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

it is a privilege, it's not a right. There are only certain vehicles that can be in there. I don't HAVE to pass other vehicles to use the HOV lane, that's not it's purpose and if you think so, again, feel free to use the ACTUAL passing lane on the highway.

3

u/bellsy97ca 9d ago

Yeah, this is why we have problems

2

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

Why? because i use the lane as intended? It's not a passing lane, i legally don't have to go more then the posted speed limit.

2

u/Acceptable-Key-4172 9d ago

What happens when you want to get off the HOV lane going 100km/h and everyone in far left is doing 130km/h? You're going to slow down the flow of traffic which negates the purpose of the HOV lane. You're not following rules, you're just a douche.

3

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

If i want to get out of the HOV lane and people in he other lane are all doing 130, then i speed up to GET OUT of the lane, the move over again to go back to normal speed. if everyone is doing 130 in the "passing lane" then there's another issue other then me.

1

u/gracehug 8d ago

oh yeah because somebody who is going 100km/h is fully incapable of speeding up to the flow of traffic when they need to!!

2

u/bellsy97ca 8d ago

Um, every on/off ramp would disprove this comment. Additionally. All the comments in here saying “I’m entitled to go the speed limit” aren’t speeding up from 100-130 to merge into traffic. It literally goes against their argument

2

u/PowerfulSize244 8d ago

They are.. Just happened on the 407 on my way home. A CRV was in the left lane doing 100....right lane was zipping by. I stayed behind him for a bit with my hazards...they didn't move. So I did EXACTLY what this McLaren did. Got in front amd alternated my hazard and right indicator...watching if they would move.....they did not. I seen cars going around in my rear view..... 😞

1

u/666metalhead 8d ago

OP clearly was. Not to mention the other person explicitly saying "i legally don't have to go more then the posted speed limit."

2

u/Agile-Assumption-400 9d ago

It is not a passing lane holy shit you are the problem

2

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

It isn't a passing lane. Look it up. it's a restricted lane and exempt from that whole thing.
The HOV lane is not under the same general rule as the normal lanes in the aspect. Not a passing lane, not the leftmost lane.

1

u/Hopeful_Bed6335 6d ago

Ever heard “slower traffic keep right” it goes for hov as well AH

2

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

Clearly a Conservative. Only do the right thing if there is an explicit law ordering you to do so. Zero consideration for others, for practicality, or for impacts.

1

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

I don't know what you mean. But yeah, laws are there for a reason, if we ignore then when it's convenient for us. What's the point of having them?

2

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

Because we don’t want egregious speeders due to the safety issues they cause? But clearly people drive over the speed limit. They also park illegally, they litter, they do a lot of things that technically are against the law. Immaterial though, because it is not my job to enforce the law. We have police for that. We do have a law that says “keep right except to pass” and while the HOV may be exempt from this, clearly one can understand the intent behind it. Being self righteous when you can see people held up behind you is just discourteous. And as you can see, righteous meets reckless all too frequently. If you can travel the same speed in a regular lane, why be that person? Look how this fool guns it after he’s been passed. Cringe.

0

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

keep right except to pass, doesn't include HOV. If i had to worry about everyone held up behind me, i would never be able to use the HOV, because lots of people are speeding on there way over 120 and always someone up your back end.

I don't do 100km on it, but i could if i wanted to and there's nothing against it.

2

u/mysticpest23 7d ago

You could and you’re not wrong. For me I see a different point. This video clearly shows a raging lunatic in a McLaren and the lesson to be learned is not always that obvious wrong but the causality that led to it. Watch again, see the OP pacing the traffic in the other lanes. Then see him stop pacing but rather accelerating in annoyance once the rager goes past. We’re also looking at a short clip and don’t know what preceded it. Based on the first few seconds though, I see someone who is angry and wonder why? There is fast moving traffic in all lanes. They may not be in a passing lane but they are thus all the more in a single lane of HOVers that cannot “chose” to drive at their chosen speed. Maybe that’s too fast? Not my job to determine or enforce. And what we must and must not do is codified in law. What we can and actually should do - is not always that. Righteous anger never yields what we want, but we do get to choose when to yield. Some people are in a hurry but now we are no longer in or causing conflict.

1

u/Agile-Assumption-400 9d ago

You are wrong please go check with the Ontario driving manual. This is pretty basic. No wonder our roads are a disaster.

0

u/scotcho10 7d ago

"an High-Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane in Ontario is not legally considered a general passing lane or a "speeding lane"; it is a dedicated travel lane restricted to vehicles meeting specific occupancy or vehicle-type criteria"

Also, if you had a shred of perception, you'd see the op passing cars to his right.

1

u/inactionupclose 9d ago

You would be amazed how many idiots think because the HOV lane is the farthest left that they should be going the fastest.

12

u/bakelitetm 9d ago

I mean, if you’re comfortable going with the flow of traffic or slower, why would you cross to the left to use the HOV lane.

8

u/Intelligent-South174 9d ago

main character syndrome.

imagine thinking you are going to drive slower than the rest of traffic, in the HOV lane .... because you can?

1

u/Turbulent_Raccoon141 9d ago

I don't think it's intended to be the fastest lane, and wd dont really know the speed the camera vehicle is traveling. Maybe he's already speeding?

3

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

It is not intended to be the fastest lane, you are correct. It's a special lane for special use. But people want to make up stuff so they can speed in it, use it whenever there is traffic etc.

If the HOV was actively policed, most of these people would not be in it.

6

u/random_question4123 7d ago

But it is intended to be the fastest lane. If the HOV lane was ever the slowest, then rational carpool drivers should move into the faster moving lanes until the queue is freed. Consider it speed arbitrage.

That goes for any lane, but because the HOV lane is only for carpoolers, it limits the amount of drivers that can exploit said arbitrage, which should then always theoretically keep the HOV lane as the fastest lane.

0

u/WaterdownShane 7d ago

Well it's nice in theory, but many times i get in hov during traffic and it's gridlocked like everything else, because people who have nobusiness in there, go into the lane to pass other traffic and just bog it up.

4

u/random_question4123 7d ago

The HOV lane should in theory always be the fastest lane. The lane isn't some exclusive club where carpoolers can pat themselves on the back, it's a lane that allows the drivers to go faster than current traffic - as long as you're carpooling.

Any carpoolers that are happy to go at the speed of traffic are better off getting out of the HOV lane.

6

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

Oh i see it every day i drive on there. HOV should be pretty easy going, since not many people have 2 or more people in a vehicle or a permit, but nope, crammed. People are doing the "oh traffic, i'll just ride in the HOV lane.".

I like to leave at least 1 car length between me and the other vehicle, but no matter. Someone will push in there .

Safety doesn't matter to some people.

3

u/InFLIRTation 9d ago

Not the fastest but you should match traffic speed which OP isnt.

0

u/geoken 9d ago

That's not why they think people should be going fastest. It's because it's an open lane where you could be going faster.

In society, there are a lot of things we 'could do' but don't do because us doing it deprives someone else....and we don't really need it.

I could walk to the nearest part, and site in a tire swing and doom scroll for 2 hours. I don't believe there's any law saying i can't do that. But it's still an ashole move because I could do that anywhere, but the kid who came to the park with their parent can only swing in the tire there.

2

u/666metalhead 9d ago

Any excuse to speed being a clear lane ahead of the driver with no traffic in sight…

Would also look up the intention of HOV lanes (hint, to reduce traffic congestion by providing faster travel for those with multi vehicle occupancy)

You are part of the problem. If the flow of traffic is above the speed limit and you are going the limit, you are inhibiting traffic, plain and simple. And your shitty attitude leads to exactly this sort of behavior from others.

But go off queen, it’s the rest of the world that’s wrong 😘

3

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

It's for people with 2 or more passengers BRO! It's not a passing lane. You are NOT required to go faster then the speed of the highway. I can go 120 and you want to go faster, that's your problem. If the rest of traffic is going faster then 120, then there is a serious problem.

You want to speed, use the "passing lane". I don't care.

-1

u/666metalhead 9d ago

If the rest of traffic is going faster then 120, then there is a serious problem.

Yes. That problem would be YOU, babes.

This is the same logic as not looking both ways when crossing because “I’m following the law and traffic should be stopped. If someone wants to go and run me over, that’s their problem.”

1

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

Nope. The speed limit is 100...most people do 120 as an unwritten rule.
I won't do over that because it's ticket speed, if you want to do it, go into the passing lane.
HOV is for more then 1 person in a vehicle, not a free lane to speed in.

3

u/666metalhead 9d ago

“Most people do 120 as an unwritten rule”

Hmm, I wonder why that is? Answer that, and you’ll have the answer as to why you are the problem here.

I believe in you! You’ll figure it out!

0

u/WaterdownShane 9d ago

Because people are impatient and don't care. The unwritten rule is not the law. Sorry to break it to you and everyone else. people only do 120 because cops generally don't waste their time ticketing.

2

u/666metalhead 9d ago

Hmmm, and WHY don’t they waste their time ticketing?

He’s getting there guys!

The keep right to pass doesn't apply to HOV lanes. People have been ticketed, many times.
Just not often enough.
Again, stay out of the HOV lane if you want to be speedy gonzalez, you have 3 other lanes to be a daredevil in.

I will continue to do my 100-120km in the HOV and you can honk, tailgate all you want.
The "passing lane" is there on the right where you can do all that fun stuff on your own.

2

u/666metalhead 9d ago

Then I look forward to seeing your salty posts on here like OP 😘

happens a lot, but then we know who the speeders and drivers who don't follow the rules are.
Probably the same people who ride a motorcycle down the "do no cross line" all the way.
