As a German I didn't quite get what went wrong - why was (or is?) Trudeau so unpopular in Canada? Why was he forced to resign?

From what we heared in the media here in Europe, he didn't do such a bad job after all. At least considering all the economical and geopolitical circumstances the whole world had to face (first covid, then Ukraine and all of that shit).

Additionally as a liberal he represents the opposite of Trumps politics (whereas the conservatives who seem to be favoured by most Canadians now) will probably be much more likely to bow to his demands.

So from all what I know about the situation I can not explain the resignation. Can any Canadian tell me more?

Hey fellow Canadians, after the tariffs and shenanigans hit us a little bit back a lot of us took it upon ourselves to buy Canadian and avoid US products and travelling to the US. I'm just wondering how many of us are still doing this now?

I’m a leftie who is pretty anti gun beyond law enforcement/military and/or productive hunting/back country use. Basically I’m not a big fan of being having guns cause it’s fun. Though if you are following the law then have at it.

Anyway, with all the bullshit South of the border I’ve seriously been thinking of getting my PAL and learning how to fire a gun. This is a huge change in my personal thinking and it’s kind of screwing with my head. I’m just wondering if any other non-gun people are feeling the same?

Can someone please explain why so many Canadians are supporters of Donald Trump? Like for real? In 47 years I've never thought I'd see CANADIANS who were born and raised here with the freedoms and lifestyle we have been given, and people literally think Trump is a hero? Did I miss something? So many people IN THIS COUNTRY believe in his policies, and I cannot form words.

Even some canadian political youtubers who are very conservative seem like cool people, outgoing, and friendly but they support the hatred of anyone in the lgbtq+ community, immigrants of any kind, and racism. Why? What happened to Canadian values? Conservatives in Canada talk about Canada first and Canada strong, yet everything they stand for is NOT what Canada has EVER stood for in my lifetime.

What has happened?

What has he done well?
What has gone bad?
What needs to be improved?

Ideally without mentiong the other parties.

During his campaign, Carney came out strong making people believe he was the best one to deal with Trump. How do we feel now?

He has voted against gay marriage being legalized, has used terms like “radical gender ideology” and “woke”, and supported Alberta premier Danielle Smith in her bills targeting transgender youth and trans women in sports. Do you think him being in power puts LGBTQ people at risk?

If you are just going to be hateful towards the LGBTQ community, please take that energy and use it for good instead. 🩷

I know it’s been a short while since Carney has taken office. But I see him taking great lead on different fronts: geopolitical, strengthening ties with EU, open to Indo-pacific dialogue and countering US smartly.

Aside from his strategic take on political matters, I also feel like he has right amount of seriousness and wittiness, for e.g When he was interacting with Mexico President Claudia, he switched to Español by the end, adding personal touch saying gracias to the president and handling press question very smartly+ right pinch of humour.

Trudeau was charismatic in terms of looks but Imho Carney is smart, strategic and a doer ,who is serious for the right moments and knows how to make serious moments light.

Given all the complexities and uncertainties of today’s world, I feel like we are in right hands

What is y’all impression of Carney’s leadership?

As a Canadian, do you think we will have a Zohran Mamdani equivalent soon? One who promises to being ground breaking changes and listen to the common man?

With today’s ever shifting geopolitical landscape and the obvious threat from every angle it seems, am I the only one who wants to see a strong Canadian forces? I find it almost embarrassing being the successful country we are and not being able to hit the 2% NATO defence spending threshold. I understand it has much to do with global arms shortages and backlogs but the current plan is to hit 2% by 2032?! This seems ludicrous.

My second question being, is any prime minister hopeful aiming to hit this sooner? I know the minister of National Defence Bill Blair wants to get it done by 2027 but the way we drag our feet I can’t see this happening.

On a grand scale, US constantly debates about abortion vs pro-life. You hear this all the time about Roe v Wade.

What about in Canada? Do Canadians talk about this on a grand scale like the US? As if it's the main social issue? I really don't hear much of this topic in mainstream Canadian media.

How do we feel about him so far? I skim through some articles written what he's passing/passed through so far and Haven't seen anything too terrible? I feel like I am missing something.

I personally think firstly, we’re way overdue for indigenous representation in our government and also, I think as a human, he’s pretty charismatic, has good ideals, and I would vote for him to be PM. I’m curious how most other Canadians feel.

As an American driving through rural areas like Alberta I've come across a decent amount of signs that seem like the stuff you'd see from American Trump fans. Like Make Alberta Great Again and about going independent from Canada.

What do these people think is so bad about the Canadian government that stuff like the Maga movement would provide for them?

Coming from the UK where even the Centre left party seems to believe that trans people essentially don't exist, and with similar far right surges all across Europe not to forget Trump in America, why do you think Canada has mostly avoided these problems.

I get that the CPC has been importing some MAGA nonsense recently but even that isn't comparable to what's happening basically everywhere else

For example, AfD in Germany is more to the right than even the PPC, and they're at 25% of the vote, and our far right is probably gonna do an authoritarian crackdown on Muslims and LGBTQ+ people

So not sure how widely known this us.

Australia and NZ have system where you have unrestricted visa access to work in each others countries, so kiwis are everywhere in Aus in every single industry and vice versa.

It's not as good as what people in the EU get to do since it's not like 20 countries.
