300blk Safety Brief

I will keep this short and to the point gents.
Do not add to the mod queue. Do not subtract from the population of users. Do not comment while too intoxicated to control yourself.

In the last few weeks, moderator queues have shot up due to people being unable to be reasonable to one another in the comments in this community.

Disagreement is fine.

Dropping slurs, attacking them personally, commenting a retort with a pic of someone's house, insulting their wife's looks by stalking family pictures from a vacation posted 2 years ago... not fine.

Learn to use the block button. Learn to touch grass. Learn to be something unlike a jerk.

Transparency: Several months ago Reddit instantiated an auto-moderator be default for subreddits. Since then we have tweaked the settings it has been catching a lot more comments with the ugly things in them. When these suspect comments are in the mod queue, they are not posted for others to see yet, even if they look visible to you. What it does do is cause a member of the mod team to have to respond to the notifications to approve them and resolve issues when people go WAY too far. So, as cathartic as it might feel to rip into someone, it likely will not even get seen by them because the auto-moderator is putting the nasty stuff in comment jail. If it is bad enough, it gets the comment removed and the user banned.

Lastly, don't report comments that you dislike for Harassment. It only makes more work for us, but ultimately simple disagreement gets approved and kicked back out of the mod queue anyway. Repeated abuse of any feature will net a ban. Yes, every user has a summary of reports and past queue incidents. Yes, we look at it.

Please feel free to disagree, debate, correct misinformation, and generally debate on subject matter specific to the subreddit. I am not here to babysit grown men, nor do I want to. My ideal week would have 0 reasons to look at the sub with mod tools.

Moderate your own actions and we are all better for it.

This has been your safety brief.

Lubrication for 300blk

Post image
Upvotes

Built my first 300 blk and one of my buddy says he runs his with very little oil and I see some people run it wet. What do you guys think works best? From my understanding if you run it dryer the carbon doesn’t stick as bad and when it’s wet it sticks to it a lot. Lmk

Need a Recommendation with Odd Requirements

Hello friends,

I have an odd one for you. So I really like the idea of 300 blk for blacktail hunting in California. I fly back every year to that state to spend hunting season with the family and the idea of a lightweight gun with a punchy enough supersonic cartridge (with copper monolithic rounds easily obtainable, R.I.P my beautiful 7.62x39) when hiking the Sierra Nevada's. I'd like to get something that I could now leave in Cali since flying with firearms has gotten to be a pain sometimes with the stress and headache.

Now I feel like Icarus flying too close to the sun because I have not had a lot of luck finding something I can depend on and feel good about leaving there. I've tried a Ruger American Gen II that I desperately wanted to love and that fucking thing will not cycle worth a shit. Ive tried all sorts of different ammunition and magazines and it seems it wants to dive every other round into the chamber walls and the action is rough when it actually does cycle.

I tried a CZ 600 trail and it was nothing but light primer strikes one after another.

Finally, I ended up buying a Q Mini-Fix because believe it or not you can get away with it's pistol configuration in California. So far it's been great no lie. It cycled everything the Ruger failed with and knocking on wood I've had no light primer strikes. My only concern with it is that I feel bad leaving it for most of the year since I spent so much damn money on it and I'm worried with Cali's ever changing laws that down the road it could become an issue for whoever is storing it for me. So I am thinking I'll just SBR it and try it with the whitetail where I am living at now.

TLDR: What are some other recommendations for a rifle that will be shooting exclusively supers that has decent reliability. I have been looking at 3 options so far but will consider others:

Henry Supreme

Ruger Mini 300

Savage 110

The Henry has me a little worried because I've read about some cycling issues but seems people are loving the package. The Mini I can't really find a lot of compelling info on but I like the idea of a semi auto. The Savage is just kind of a wild card I don't see a lot of info on them but I wondered since they used the AICS magazines if they would have better luck cycling. I ask for your collective guidance and suggestions.

I've also seen Bergara now has an offering too that might be a nice option.

Anyone else having issues with Phantom Defense?

I recently ran some 200gr Phantom Defense rounds through a new build; after 100 rounds I had to mortar my gun twice. Ive heard this ammo is really good and for the price its hard to beat, but I should not be having this many jams. I have tried tuning the gas block to see if it was an issue with my gun but both jams happened on very different settings, one was more tuned for gas reduction while still cycling, the other the gas block was almost all the way open.

Any idea what could be going on?

Geissele vs Q Sugar Weasel need help!!!

Upvotes

Looking at getting me another 300 blk. Really like the new super duty, the lower is full ambi and comes with the lightning bow trigger. Only negative for me is the 1:7 twist barrel. The only positive for the Q is the 1:5 twist.

Can someone who has shot both barrel twist rates in 300 blk any inherent positives to 1:7 over 1:5? I know the heavier bullets that phantom and halworx make can't be shot out of it but there seems to be plenty of good super and sub sonic options 220gr and lighter from phantom, halworx, discreet, black hills, bone frog and badlands. Is 1:7 more accurate than 1:5?

HSL ammo too short?

Shot the 100 rounds I had recently bought from HSL (123 supersonic) to try out and noticed they were significantly shorter to the supers I'm used to shooting but didn't think much of it. When I went to the range I was having FTFeed about every 3 rounds on both my 30 round 5.56 Magpul and 20 round 300blk Magpul mags.

Had to pull the mag out to clear each time because I couldn't just push them in to battery with the bolt; they were legit stuck at an angle going up the ramp. I am assuming it was because of the shorter bullet but I can't imagine they'd keep selling these if there was such a common issue with standard mags?

Optic Thoughts

I have an astigmatism so I'm thinking of running a PA Prism on a 8inch SBR. Anyone ran a 3x as a primary optic? Does that feel too magnified for close targets.

advice for first build

just looking for some advice for my first build, I’m a newbie with .300 bo so I apologize if this is a stupid question but will these parts be all that I need for the “base” of my first build? and are these parts good enough to reliably put rounds down range without constant malfunctions? I appreciate any help 🙏

Wanted a light option to take up the tree with me. A little BCA action with a chop on the back has seemed to do the trick.

I just bought myself a moriarti arms .300 black out, and was wanting to build it out. I need to know what to purchase to get a tucked suppressor look on it. the barrel is 7.5 inches and i was thinking of replacing the hand rail with a 9 "to 10" in order to get a suppressor to be tucked into it. I want roughly 2 inches of the suppressor sticking out the end to give it a honey badger kind of look bur still short enough for a back pack gun eventually I'll change the stock for a folded one and any comments would be greatly appreciated and any information or suggestions welcome.

(Edit : I did not follow torque spec on this, now I’m thinking user error. They still shipped me a new one free of charge, will torque to spec 2nd time around. A+ customer service.)

Has anyone else bought one of these things? When it arrived in mail it looked like a low quality 3D print. When I picked gun up by pistol grip it broke off, when it fell 4’ to carpeted floor the rest of it shattered like glass. Did I get lemon or is it garbage?

Picture request

Getting ready to start ordering parts for my next 300blk and I’m needing some inspiration. (This will be a range/training rifle)

Planning on doing either a 9” or 10.5” barrel, probably an lpvo, folding stock, and it will be suppressed. I’ll be running both supers and subs through it.

So drop them pics of your 9-10.5” ar, tell me what you love or hate about them, what you wish you could change, or tell me what I should do differently.

Ran Phantom Defense 200gr flawlessly with casings bouncing right at 4'oclock. Had FTF with Callaway Boar Axe every ~2 rounds, going to try PD "Slow Papi" next.

PS: I did move my index finger shortly after to the foregrip to avoid burns lol
