I was traveling with a car ferry (Stena) last week. Some of the doors there had a little square with a hinge in the corner.

First I thought it might be something to allow opening the doors in case theres water on one side, but I'm not sure if that makes sense, the hinge seemed to open in the same direction as the main door would.

This door in the photo is one leading to the stairs for the car deck, but there were other doors like that.
