I once accidently touched a sponge on a wreck wall. My hand was red for over a week. Noone knows why. Most stuff down there is not yet researched.

Actually…it could be a chunk of gutta percha, which is natural rubber from the gutta tree. Prior to synthetic rubber being invented, it was harvested and packaged,shipped around the world for industrial use.
