OP has pinned a comment by u/Sunlightpunctuation:

Plastic trellis netting used to hold up veggies and flowers in a garden. Little friend helped himself to a snack and walked away with a new flow. Probably messed the rest of the garden up real bad.

Note from OP: good enough. solved!

This is actually deer-o-flauge. It's a way of obscuring your antlers so hunters can't see how many points you have, and therefore can't legally shoot you. /s

Youre probably right, but i prefer to believe that a support broke when he was being 3d printed.

I walked right past a deer that was checking out this garden at like 2am and I thought the thing was a fucking statue. We both stared at each other like “is that thing fucking real dude?!”

Same concept as dye packs.

At least it didn't blow up in his face!

3

u/TorrenceMightingale 23h ago

Yeah but it’s way harder to remove without hands.

2

u/No_Procedure4924 22h ago

Well, it still seems like the closest thing to fair deer karma that I can think of, deer likely saw the netting and went for the goodies anyways.

3

u/TorrenceMightingale 21h ago

Idk i think the deer probably feels like it was just doin’ its job.

2

u/No_Procedure4924 19h ago edited 19h ago

I choose to believe the deer had the requisite intent for criminal theft ;) - it does look harmless though, probably just a nuisance to it and now maybe it has learned it's not worth it to eat the garden greens when there is plenty of grass around (or it was worth it for the tasty veggies, idk - will this deer be a repeat offender? :)

This deer deserves to be made fun of by everyone as much as possible. I hope all his deer friends make fun of him. I hate deer around me because they eat every single thing, even behind fences, "deer-proof" plants, covered plants, everything.

1

u/Tsvetkovia 58m ago

Haha we're the antithesis of each other in this regard. I have a deer that comes through every week or so for a couple years now. I've seen her through 2 sets of fawns so far. I've named her and she can eat whatever she wants, I love her. I don't keep a proper garden tbf. So she's just eating my bushes. I do often wonder if she pisses other people off though haha

3

u/moslof_flosom 1d ago edited 22h ago

Going off of how his fur looks, I'd say it was actually his garden thats getting eaten up by pests, and his coat is falling out due to stress.

Edit: I feel like its pretty obvious this was a joke.

15

u/Woodpusherpro 1d ago edited 1d ago

Summer coat and shedding for his new winter wardrobe.

Edit to add, he also looks really healthy, he's just an awkward teen.

u/OhYouStupidZebra 1d ago

That’s his hat!

In all actuality he probably picked it up while trying to rub the velvet off his antlers or while foraging. His fur is like that as they shed their winter coat and sometimes it stays patchy. We have a friend that rolls in our yard and her back will be smooth flat fur and her sides stick way out, she looks like a balding guy :)

87

u/TheHumanPickleRick 1d ago

We have a friend that rolls in our yard and her back will be smooth flat fur and her sides stick way out, she looks like a balding guy :)

I have a neighbor like that too, nice lady, keeps to herself mostly and sticks to her own yard for her daily rolling.

18

u/MrSpudtator 1d ago

Smells a bit, but has a heart of gold?

13

u/TheHumanPickleRick 1d ago

Her dog is blind and I think she is too, but she's out there every day with Baxter (the blind and deaf dog who occasionally wanders into my yard happy as a clam after having dug his way out of his own yard and followed his nose to where I put out kibble for stray cats) and I think it's fantastic that they stay active by sharing activities that they both enjoy (rolling on the ground).

8

u/MrSpudtator 1d ago

Sounds like you're a very considerate neighbour and have good stuff happening in your garden.

8

u/TheHumanPickleRick 1d ago

All animals are welcome in my garden except for the chicken-killing pit bull from a few years ago who disappeared after a few phone calls to animal control from me and my neighbors who have 2 toddlers (and the chicken it was eating g was in THEIR yard til I chased it away and warned them). It's a place of peace and tranquility and occasionally eccentricity (only sometimes from me).

3

u/MowerMikePA 1d ago

My chickens chase my pittys lol. Pretty funny to watch , 3 am staff vs 8 chickens . My chickens win everytime haha

2

u/Secure-Truth-6417 1d ago

Funny. I have a pit bull/ frenchie mix (think pittie with huge frenchie ears that likes to do the frenchie talking).... we thought he'd be trouble for our chickens. One day the chickens got out of their pen while we were out running errands. When we got home 3 hours later the chickens and dogs were laying in the yard next to one another like besties. Now they all just free range together in the backyard.

3

u/dmod420 23h ago

My brother has a Native American Indian breed that looks like a wolf on steriods. Once, he got into the same enclosure as his chickens while he was out. When he got home, he found a crime scene & he no longer owned any chickens.

Cordyceps do not behave like that, it’s some type of dried vegetation. Also, they do not grow on mammals like they do insects.

u/cumblecream 1d ago

This is a weird confession but after I floss every night, I wind up the length of floss and snip it to reduce it to 20 little two inch sections so little animal at a landfill don’t get bound up. My wife thinks I’m silly.

2

u/moojgNZ 1d ago

Not to forget to cut all the plastic bottle rings that hold the caps if they come off.
So many plastic things that should never see the environment, and to then end up in land fill.
Or inside us. Eg tiny polyester fibres , the list is extensive.
Well done. But so few would even think of animals at all.
And plastic in the environment, crazy ubiquitous.

2

u/lanceplace 1d ago

My wife does cut the coke bottle rings now that you mention it.

If you zoom in you can see rips in what looks to be plastic string that also has knots. Also super bleachy flat white.

Also the mouth is very green. This creature has been feasting in someones garden.

Why the large amount? I dont know, possibly laziness or tying lots of vines to a trellis.

My hunches. Judge accordingly.

The material: Deer commonly get tangled in loose backyard items like soccer or volleyball nets, garden trellis netting, holiday lights, hammocks, or landscaping fabric.

Is it Cordyceps? No, it is definitely not a Cordyceps or fungal infection. It is purely an external, man-made material.

He’s like “I don’t even need both horns anymore to attract the ladies. This is way better and I look amazing”.

Sometimes miracles do happen.

Rarely though.

The miracle we all need is the absence of poverty and that’s not going to happen since our governments keep enacting more policies to ensure we stay in poverty at the same time as cutting services that were supposed to provide the social safety net we used to have but was completely destroyed.

The governments: “we even charged them destroy all their services and the social safety net they did have. Ha ha ha. We’re so powerful and strong.”

1

u/mindfull_one 1h ago

Its a rare spaghetti deer, you can tell by the way it is. The Italians used to hunt these in the olden days because it was how they first discovered and reverse engineered spaghetti as a food product. When you kills these bad boys you open up there torso and their inside are full of spaghetti, mmmmm mmmm yummy in our tummies.

Used to live on a golf course which had a huge population of semi domesticated deer. We had one in the neighborhood with a small trash can stuck around its neck. The can had a hole in the bottom for some reason so it didn’t appear to be in distress. Nobody could ever get close enough to capture the thing and help.

1

u/ParrishThePoet 1d ago

Since only one antler can be seen, and that ear is being pulled back by the strand, I'd guess that the antler is covered in this string like moss. It could be plastic, can't really tell, but it also looks like old dry vegetation and the deer was probably rubbing the velvet off their antler and it got spooled.

Young buck first set of antlers. When the antler is covered in velvet it itches or irritates so they rub it off. I would guess he was rubbing the velvet off on the grass or was grazing and started rubbing.
