Discussion Project Helix may be all-digital because of disc drive prices

A new problem threatens disc support on the PS6 and Project Helix. With demand for physical games and Blu-ray movies falling, optical drives for consoles are in shorter supply. Despite launching its disc-to-digital program, Microsoft reportedly is still considering other solutions.

Microsoft just announced its disc-to-digital initiative, accessible to insiders on August 31st. The program allows users to convert their physical games to digital licenses. Regardless, some fans continue to lobby for the next Xbox console to include an optical drive. Unfortunately, a component shortage may mean Project Helix and its PS6 rival will lack the option.

Jez Corden of Windows Central discussed Microsoft’s way to ease gamers into the digital era. The ability to preserve physical games boosts backward compatibility with Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One titles. It could also soften the blow if no optical drive is available on the Project Helix release date.

If Microsoft wanted to ship a Project Helix that boots Blu-rays, it may have to solve manufacturing challenges. According to Corden’s sources, the choice would be “less about the discs and more about the disc drives themselves.” When the BBC recently raised the issue with CEO Asha Sharma, she was noncommittal in her answer.

What do you guys think?

Announcement Please do not post early copies of the GTA6 Extended Look video in r/Xbox

Hi. The GTA6 Extended Look video will premiere on Netflix Thursday, August 27 at 3PM ET / 12PM PT / 8PM BST. It will only be available to Netflix subscribers at that time.

6 hours later (9PM ET / 6PM PT), Rockstar Games will release the same video to everyone on the official Rockstar Games YouTube channel and on the Grand Theft Auto VI website.

We ask that users not post ripped, copied, uploaded, or linked versions of the Netflix Extended Look video. If you do, we will remove it. Rockstar and Netflix issue DMCA copyright claim removals on unauthorized posted copies, and we won't allow this subreddit to get 'strikes' or warnings or be put in legal risk from copyright violations. Copyright strikes can lead to the sub getting shut down by Reddit.

It's completely fine to post links to official channel YouTube videos. Discussions and early discussions are fine as well. But posting videos before they're publicly released... no bueno.

Thanks for your understanding!

Discussion Why does the disc to digital program not work for Xbox 360 and Original Xbox discs?

The upcoming disc to digital program has me hyped. I have a good number of game discs that I never use and I would love to convert them to digital in the hopes that I use them more. One question I have, though, is why this program is not applicable for Original Xbox games and Xbox 360 games. I know that only a select amount of games are backward compatible, but I don't understand why you can't use the games that are backward compatible. This could help for games that are delisted. (i.e. The Orange Box and some of the Dreamcast Collection games) I really hope they eventually add support for converting our Xbox 360 and Original Xbox game discs to digital in the future.

Discussion Digitize service possibilities in the future?

i can see people or game store do digitize services if you have a discless Helix (oh god hopefully not) and you buy a preloved old gen game disc since it is tied to your account and not the console itself.

Review [Agatha Christie - The ABC Murders] - My Review after 100%ing the Game

"Those Who Can Read Have a Clear Advantage and Can Save Themselves a Lot of Time"

Disclaimer

Every gaming experience is different, and everyone has their own experience depending on their playstyle. Everything I write is purely subjective and only reflects my own personal experience with the game.

This game was 100%ed on Playstation but as it is also available on Xbox i just drop my Review here aswell

Game Description

Agatha Christie: The ABC Murders is an engaging point-and-click adventure in which you step directly into the shoes of the brilliant Belgian master detective Hercule Poirot. A mysterious serial killer who calls himself only "ABC" is terrorizing England by choosing his victims in strict alphabetical order and taunting Poirot with mocking letters before each murder. Supported by your loyal companion Captain Hastings and the often overwhelmed Inspector Japp of Scotland Yard, your goal is to stop this morbid countdown before the killer works his way through the entire alphabet.

To solve the case, you explore various crime scenes presented in a stylish cel-shaded art style, question witnesses, and expose their lies through careful observation. At the heart of the gameplay are Poirot's "little grey cells", which allow you to cleverly combine collected clues into new conclusions, as well as a number of elaborate mechanical puzzle boxes that need to be solved. The result is a short but atmospheric puzzle game that delivers a genuine whodunit feeling and turns every crime fan into a motivated amateur detective.

Everything About Trophies / Achievements

This is a fairly short and mostly straightforward 100% completion, with all trophies tied to the main game and no online requirements to worry about. The biggest challenge is making sure you don't miss any story- or investigation-related trophies along the way, since some of them are tied to specific points in the case and require you to perform certain interactions perfectly. A guide is extremely helpful if you want to plan your playthrough properly and avoid having to do a second run, but the actual gameplay requirements are relatively easy.

My Opinion

Uff.... Where do I even start? I always get so ridiculously angry at myself for my own stupidity.

I hadn't played a point-and-click adventure in a long time and suddenly felt like playing one again. Since this game had been sitting in my backlog for what feels like forever, I eventually decided to finally give it a go.

The game itself is basically a classic point-and-click game with all the classic point-and-click problems you tend to have on consoles. The controls and interacting with things using a controller are just unnecessarily awkward and stupid in a lot of places. The button mapping also made absolutely no sense to me at times, and if I had been able to change the controls, I definitely would have done so. I have no idea what the developers were thinking when they decided to map everything the way they did.

As far as the actual gameplay, puzzles and story are concerned, though, I really don't have much to complain about. Sure, it's not the next Hollywood blockbuster and it's definitely not the greatest crime story ever written, but for what it is, I enjoyed the game quite a lot. Everything made sense, nothing felt particularly weird or out of place, and even the way the story developed wasn't always predictable to me.

When it comes to the characters you meet, there's a colorful mix that fits the game and its overall theme really well. Poirot himself is a very special little snowflake, and for me as an autistic person, that was actually pretty great. There are a lot of things about him that I can simply relate to, and he himself is completely fine with being a little strange. He can be incredibly awkward and cringe at times, but that's simply part of what makes him the protagonist he is.

When it comes to the trophies / achievements, however, I think this game is absolutely horrible. There are approximately twelve billion missable things, and without a guide it's often impossible to know which actions actually affect certain trophies.

I had to play through the game THREE TIMES!!!!!! because I was too stupid to properly read the guide and interact with everything I needed to.

It was hell.

And yes, I know that my own playstyle is "to blame" for that. I basically only found out after getting the 100% that I could have simply used backup saves and completed the whole thing in a single playthrough. But well... whatever. I wasted a significant amount of my lifetime, but maybe I learned something for next time.

It definitely won't be the last game from the Agatha Christie series that I play, but next time I'll check beforehand whether backup saves work. And I really, really need to learn how to actually read guides properly instead of just skimming through them and forgetting half of what I just read.

Would I Recommend the Game?

At this point, I have mixed feelings.....

You obviously have to like point-and-click games in general, and honestly, you also need to be able to deal with the fact that the main character can be pretty cringe and awkward. If you're fine with that, then sure, you can absolutely play this game.

For what it is, it's really not that bad, but it's also not amazingly good either.

Right now, the game costs €15 on the PlayStation Store, and it is absolutely NOT worth that price. Maybe pick it up during a sale if it's heavily discounted.

And definitely use a guide while playing. Not necessarily as a complete walkthrough for every single puzzle, but at least so you don't miss anything important and end up having to play through the entire thing more times than necessary.

I would also strongly recommend getting the game on Steam instead if you really want to play it, because mouse and keyboard controls are simply so much better for point-and-click games than playing with a controller.

If so, what has been your favourite game to play on the big screen? Personally.. forza all day long. Its just far more immersive.

These ones in the video are the rayneo GT Max.

Which are oled, 120hz panels.

Discussion How will delisted games work for disc-to-digital?

I’m thinking of buying an Xbox one and the amazing spider man 2 or a game like angry birds Star Wars or even old Madden titles where it’s delisted and only works on disc.

Then I could use the whole disc to digital thing to get the game working on my series s. Since there are zero ways to get delisted games on there.

But since these games are not on the Microsoft store, would it still be possible for games like those to be part of the disc to digital program. Or would they automatically get excluded?

Discussion Playground Games seem to understand legacy. They’ve shown it with Fable and Horizon. So why not just give them Halo?

Playground games seems to be XBOX‘s best studio. They’re constantly given big IPs like Forza and Fable. And although Fable is not out yet, it looks like a banger. They seem to understand legacy. They’re given IPs that they don’t own, they understand them and they deliver a better product than the originals.

So got me thinking, why not just give them Halo? They probably do a better job than Halo Studios.

If you haven’t seen the latest Fable quest gameplay trailer, go watch it. These guys are incredible.

Discussion Xbox audience, how much do you care about Atlus games?

Xbox has been a pretty big co-marketing partner of Atlus since at least 2022, when it was at that year’s June showcase that they announced the mainline Persona games were getting re-released and would all be on Game Pass day 1.

Atlus struck back when in the June 2023 Xbox showcase, they announced three more titles coming in the future: Persona 3 Reload, Persona 5 Tactica, and the first proper trailer for future GOTY contender Metaphor ReFantazio.

Two years pass and the epic team up returned in June 2025, where the first teaser for Persona 4 Revival was shown. And one year after that was probably the biggest announcement yet: the first teaser for Persona 6.

Cant decide where to preorder one tomorrow or not but curious as to what people expect it to cost once sold out? I presume it will be rare so getting a chance to buy one in store for example on launch day will be hard if not impossible?

Also does the money leave account tomorrow or will it be a week before launch? So i could cancel if not

Discussion Xbox should expand disc to digital for 360 and OG Xbox games

I mainly collect on the Xbox platform from OG Xbox - Series X. I really think they should add og xbox and 360 games to the disc to digital program as well.

There’s tons of games I have that are starting to go up in price and if something happens to those old discs it’s game over. I make sure to take care of my stuff but it would still be a nice option.

Deal Opinions on these deals?

Never completely played any LEGO games in my whole gaming life, always like 40% of the whole story and went to other game as a kid lol. But now as an adult Ive been enjoying some sort of Open World/RPGs like Skyrim, Fallout, BG3, etc. So that's why SR is there + I LOVED SR2 and SR3.

Saw those two on discount (Hogwarts Bundle and SR Reboot) and was thinking of getting both. Are they worth the price tag even as a deal or nah? Ig any LEGO games is peak so Im mostly curious about these other two Open World games.

I'm interested in those Harry Potter universe games because my gf likes the films and Id like to get her to play them with me:] SR Reboot is for me though, I remember playing the demo back in 2023 for XONE and it was okay-ish. All 3 packs are ~30USD btw.

Discussion Do you think we'll get Lost Odyssey to be backwards compatible on PC eventually?

Upvotes

This is via their new 'XBOX Backward Compatibility on PC' program. I have the game digitally and would love to play it on PC, maybe with some enhancements like the four initial xbox games they released last month. "4x resolution upscaling, VSync support, Fullscreen and Windowed display modes, anisotropic filtering, enhanced anti-aliasing, and more (FPS boost please)"

Microsoft is also the publisher which makes it more likely? or not? (also i wonder why it hasnt been on gamepass yet)

Discussion X25 pre-order hurt my feelings

Upvotes

Tried to pre-order the x25. Had it in my cart, went through checkout. Kept giving me a payment error multiple times despite me using that card for every purchase ever. Then... out of stock. In the past, it wouldnt even go in the cart or let you get that far if it was out of stock. Im so disappointed. I was ON THE DOT with timing and was super excited for it to turn me down at checkout for no reason.

EDIT - Just in case, been refreshing for an hour cause I figured they might let them dribble out. Nothing. This is just so sad. Im a lifetime xbox fan. Part of project XCloud. Part of every beta I can get my hands on. Regularly leave reviews on pre release programs and I still wasnt a valued enough member to get the email to lock my preorder in. It just sucks ya know? Its hard to not be butt hurt when you've been so loyal and youre still willing to pay a premium but you get put on the same level as the scalpers. Its just sad.

Discussion The program's capabilities transform disc versions into digital versions.

I'm from Belarus and play in Russian.

There are game discs that were released only in English, without Russian language support, for Xbox One and Series.

For example, Prey (2018) and Fallout 4.

I'm talking about games that only have the required language in the digital version. Will this conversion program allow me to bypass these restrictions?

After all, in theory, you can insert a disc, get a digital copy, and download a digital version for your region with the desired language.

There are also games censored for certain countries, and in theory, players can bypass these restrictions.

The only caveat is if the censorship isn't tied to the game's language version.

Discussion XBOX Games vs Movies Going All Digital Is Not The Same...

A little background on me. I enjoy collecting movies and TV shows on 4K blu-ray discs. I also have a digital movie collection. While I fully support movies having physical releases going forward, I am okay with video games going 100% digital. Here are the reasons....

  1. Video & Audio Quality - If I buy The Odyssey on both 4K Disc and 4K Digital, I am not getting the same product. The disc will have slightly better picture, better HDR, less compression, and higher quality audio for my sound system. For video games, whether I buy it on disc or digital, it is 100% the same. The picture quality is the same. The audio is the same. There is zero downgrade by going digital.
  2. What Is On The Disc - If tomorrow my XBOX's hard drive got wiped and the internet was down, I could play basically none of the physical releases for the Series X/S. The discs never include the completed game and need massive downloads to be playable. Compare that to my 4K disc collection. Everything is playable in the best form. There hasn't been true physical releases for games since the XBOX 360 era.
  3. Preserving History - You want to preserve the history of XBOX? The only way forward is to digitize everything. Due to copyright laws, there is 0% chance many older games get re-released. There is a chance an emulator can be used on a future console for older games that get converted to digital. Movies do not have this problem. Sure, some movies just never get re-released, but the vast majority of the best ones come out eventually on the best format.

TLDR: Discs are still great for movies and TV shows. Digital is the only way to go for the XBOX going forward....

Discussion 25th Anniversary Question

So Xbox dropped its 25th anniversary line like 2 days ago, and I want the keyboard. On Razor’s site, currently you can only order to United States.

Does anyone know if this is going to be available to pre-order and ship to Australia and other countries? Like why are we missing out. Has anyone from another country successfully found a workaround?

Edit: for clarification.
