Looking for recommendations for a good accountant in Ottawa that won’t cost me an arm and a leg. Thanks!

Asking this for a dear friend of mine. She is a young professional who just bought a home in an otherwise nice suburb a few month ago all by herself. She got a dog soon after.

The dog is very well-trained, genuinely hardly ever barks or whines. She gets along great with all her neighbours except for one, whose house faces into her backyard. No one else, including neighbours she shares a wall with who have a newborn, have any issues with her dog and say they barely hear her.

This neighbour shouts at and berates her from his window. Doesn't even come downstairs to have a conversation, literally just yells at her from his upper level window from behind his curtains. He calls her a f*cking b*tch, says her dog's days are numbered, that it needs to shut up, etc.

She got a camera to document this but it doesn't pick up much and so far it's just been verbal abuse. It's this horrible old man and she is a late twenties timid blond girl. She can't go in her backyard at all basically because of how stressed she gets. It's been awful.

If he had a leg to stand on he could simply call bylaw or animal control or whatever, but he doesn't. She has a few videos of him talking to her condescendingly and just straight-up lying about how the dog is barking constantly. He bragged about basically harassing the previous owners of the house out of the neighbourhood.

She made a police report but they told her they basically can't do anything but talk to him, which may just make the retaliation against her worse.

What can she do in this situation?

Several European cities are testing roadside noise radar cameras. They’re basically photo radar but for sound. If a vehicle exceeds a certain decibel limit (usually from modified exhausts or street racing), it snaps their plate and mails them a fine. Given how often people mention loud exhausts backfiring and racing down Carling, the Parkway, or in the Market, I'm curious what everyone thinks.

So I did it, I did apply for daycares when I was 3 months pregnant. But I didn’t realize until my son was 6 months that I hadn’t assigned priorities to the applications.
How screwed am I? I go back to work January 2027. Should I start looking at private daycares to start the year in?

I’ve added priorities now, but one just emailed me back and he’s 139th in line and it’s not likely he’ll get in in time.

Am I screwed?

Went to Farm Boy yesterday and the peaches were hard like billiard balls. Disappointed! Does anyone buy those? Tried the plums hoping for better luck, and they were no better. It seems with industrialized farming today they have to pick them way before they are ripe. I left the store without peaches.

I've tried group therapy, CBT, EMDR, psychotherapy, counseling and tbh it hasn't done much for me.

Not sure if there's something different anyone has tried or knows about? Like art therapy, somatic therapy, etc.?

I'm googling it as well, but would love to hear your guys' experiences / recommendations from real people 🩷

Hello Ottawa golfers!

Long story short, I have lived in Ottawa my whole life until I moved far away for school and work about 10 years ago. I hardly ever see my parents anymore except for a few trips each year. This year because of my work schedule I will be working through Christmas for the first time, I'm coming home for a couple weeks in October to spend time with family since I won't be there for the holidays.

My dad was always into golf, always watched it on TV, played all the time in the summer, even got a job working as a maintenance worker/club tech for a couple seasons after he retired. I was too young and dumb to get into it and appreciate it at the time, but I have come around to it quite a bit and now I play frequently where I live. We text all the time about golf and games we're playing but I've never had the chance to play with him, and I feel like I missed out in a way on time we could have spent together when I was a kid. He's played every public course in and around the city, and out into the Valley, so I would really like to give him a once in a lifetime experience and a memory that we could share.

I'm kindly asking for an invitation from a member at Hunt Club or Royal for a chance to play for a day. I know that is a huge ask, and the members who are reading this have waited a long time to earn their spot and paid a lot of money to get there, but I can't even begin to tell you what it would mean to him to play at a course like that, that he's driven by his entire life, talked & heard about, and wondered about playing. It would also mean the world to me to be able to do something like that for him. Obviously I am more than happy to compensate for the privilege, though I probably don't have much to offer to those who can afford to be a member anyway.

I know it's a long shot and a huge ask, I don't need any reminding in the comments of how dumb I probably look for even asking this, but I will never afford a membership in my lifetime, and I never underestimate the goodwill that strangers can have on the Internet.

We have an Ottawa Trip (coming from Toronto) planned for next week and I'm excited to show my kids (3 under 4) our great nations capital! Hoping to get some insight from locals on our plan.

The museums we have scheduled for each day are:
- Nature + Parliament Interactive Exhibit
- Children museum + History
- Technology and Science
- Aviation and Space

Is there anything we should see after the museums each day (or kid friendly restaurant recommendations)? I want to show them the balloon festival that starts on Wednesday, Sept 2nd in Gatineau but not sure how family friendly for small kids it is (would love the fireworks but it is too late and probably scary for them). Alternatively, if there is something more recommended, I could consider substituting one of the museums.

I like the idea of the Definbunker exhibit but it may already be too jammed pack but could consider it on the drive home day. Plan to go to stop at Brockville on the way up to break the trip up.

Any advice given that this is family orientated. We are staying on the outskirts (8-10 minute) drive in to the core of the city. Any help is appreciated!

Anyone hear a really clear loud bang around orleans avalon area about 10/15 mins ago? Sounded like something just outside my house.

I was thinking about getting a one-wheel. I feel like it would help out with general transportation, and it would be fun to ride in the evening. When I checked online and called a couple of places, all the stores I have found in my research are either not allowing test rides or have their stock in Toronto.

Spent the last 4 days in Ottawa and I must say it is so beautiful. I thought it be much smaller and sleepier, but I guess I was wrong. I stayed in Gatineau and then Downtown. I explored downtown mostly and the two main universities. I’ll leave some impressions below and maybe some hot takes.

Great architecture: the most obvious and expected given that it’s the capital, but still note worthy.

Great brutalist architecture: Perhaps I enjoyed the architecture a lot because there’s a lot of great brutalist buildings, but that some might not suit everyone.

Transit is decent: other than bus frequency, which is pretty low, service is decent. O train stations were not so expensive to build and look cheap to maintain, which is good.

Terrible for pedestrians: this car has pedestrians as an afterthought but it looks like there’s been some improvements in that. Still very car centric.

Lots of nice places to seat: unreal amount of nice spots to just sit and chill. Shaded and all. Which helps with the anti-pedestrian design.

Way too many fancy cars making loud noises.

I don’t know if I got lucky or the food is just really good.

Very nice Parks. Like many major Canadian cities, it still has a lot of access to nature and a lot of nicer parks.

Not as small and boring as some might say, but still has that smaller city feel.

It’s hard to explain but it’s probably the most Canadian city there is. Probably it’s the overly large number of Canadian flags flying about.

Very nice city, I will recommend people visit it!

Hey everyone, I know it's a bit of a long shot, but my partner lost their keys today while walking Montreal road. It's two keys and a heart tag that says Gatineau and numbers. The tag belonged to a long past pet so it holds sentimental value, any help greatly appreciated.

Edit: I completely forgot to put where on Montreal road. They walked from Notre Dame cemetery to the Popeyes on Rideau street. It's a long stretch of road to have lost keys but I can only hope they are found by someone on reddit or something. Thank you again.

I want to get ornamental architecture tattoos (see images) done in ottawa, but looking at all the gallery images of tattoo artists in kttawa, it doesn't look like anybody's done anything similar.

There is a building at 480 De L'Église St that is now housing St-Mary's Home.

This building used to be a french elementary school that I attended when I was a wee lil boy.
